This novel is AMAZING!!! Story is fast-paced and well-written. Characters have great depth and their interactions are just loveable, sensible and cute. The translations are superb - props to the translator for the awesome job.

Thank you author-nim for such a fantastic, heart-warming story. This one is definitely one of my favourites and one I absolutely recommend 10/10.

this story is soooooo cuteee. I really like the female lead character. So pure but the same time also so flirty. Even though the romance was progressed so slow, but it didn't make me rush to finish this story. When finally I reached the last chapter, I really wished there will some extras but well, the ending is satisfying, for me at least. Thank you to the author for making this beautiful story ?

I rarely like xianxia or cultivation novels coz all the titles and terms confuses the heck out of me but this one did it for me. I never thought I would love it this much as I never had any expectations for this since I wasn’t a fan of the author’s MC from the two novels I’ve read among her works. I picked this up after seeing that it was completely translated and its high ratings.

This is as adorable and wholesome as it can get. I love, love everything about... more>> this novel that it made its way to my top 3 list.

No regrets in reading this and I might re-read this whenever I’m bored. <<less

This novel is the most wholesome cultivation story I have ever read. There are 158 chapters, which may seem short but each chapter is so long and rich in content that I had to use several days to finish reading the story. The content never falters or weakens, the world-building is so in-depth and carries along the reader, and the supporting characters have unique personalities with their own stories and aspirations (not filler, but world-building).

The relationship between the two main characters is not rushed or unrealistic, but a fateful encounter... more>> that blooms into feelings of immense trust and security. Their relationship is not a fast romance (kissing, etc.), but throughout the entire story, I've been satiated on the smaller details and gestures that were so heartwarming I felt that their growing affections would last for eternity.

When I finished reading the novel, the ending was so fulfilling and wholesome that I felt I was being rewarded. The author is incredibly amazing. This novel is perfect, I am so glad that I gave it a try and was able to read such a beautiful story. <<less

Truthfully it was enjoyable at the start, it was different than most of the cultivation-world type novel so far, a very easy read. But as the story progress, I found myself feeling unsatisfied with some of the aspect of the story (there were many things not explained in the story, such as the cultivation world itself, the levels in between one stage of cultivation to the next (for example: from the energy refining to base cultivation, divided into how many levels, ex: level 1-10 or such) , the beast-taming thingy,... more>> levels and rarity of the spiritual-grass and such). I was quite interested in those things especially the beast-taming part which was mentioned at the beginning part of the story

(you’ll know what I mean I guess when you read it,
Spoiler

when the MC had just arrived in the cultivation world, she saw the rabbit and the master thought that she wanted to raise it —> beast-taming (?) correct me though if i’m wrong xD

[collapse]
).

But since the protagonist didn’t involve herself with those things and the total chapters were quite short, so... it couldn’t be helped I guess.-.

For me, it was so-so. <<less

An absolute gem - I giggled at the FL's cluelessness at times and loved the interactions between the FL & ML. The pacing of their romance was oh so sweet and worth it! Honestly one of the best novels I've read for a long while!

This is my second favourite novel now. It's the cultivation novel that I didn't know that I needed. The translation is excellent, as even normally complicated xianxia terms are made readable and accessible.

The heroine is reasonable, kind, smart, adorable and lucky. The male lead is wonderful and cutely nerdy (in a cultivation kind of way). Their relationship develops very naturally. It's a very cute, fluffy, enjoyable read with an optimistic refreshing plot so far. The heroine is very lucky, but it's done in a very cute, it's-because-her-heart-is-kind sort of way,... more>> so I enjoyed reading about it.

Other cultivation novels I've read are stereotypically 2, 000-3, 000 repetitive chapters, with super OP harem-collecting leads, brainless jealous idiots and levelling up worlds to explore. This novel is very different. It's compact in comparison, the leads make decisions that make sense, there are flawed but adorable/interesting/reasonable characters (there are no super jealous white lotuses so far), and the plot moves forward at a nice, refreshing pace.

I've read other novels by this same author - Eight Treasure Trousseau, To Be A Virtuous Wife, The Job Of An Imperial Concubine, Hello Wife - and she always has female leads who have self-respect and treat others well.

One of my favourite quotes from this novel is from the heroine's older disciple brother giving her advice on relationships: "Do not slight yourself... You can force many things in the world, but not love. If you are not suited to each other, do not persist. Follow your heart, do not slight yourself, and do not use the name of love to do things that harm others."

I also loved the fact that the author even included a cooking-cultivation sect, since I also enjoy novels like - Gourmet of Another World and A Stay-at-home Dad's Restaurant In An Alternate World - that feature cultivation through cooking.

Another thing I really liked was that the description of the heroine as a child was appropriate for her age. (I've read other novels where descriptions of children were very unrealistic or borderline inappropriate, so this novel was a welcome change.)

There were many instances in the novel when I expected things to go off the rails like in other stories - but the author always chose the best path - so there are almost no s*upid misunderstandings in the book. There's honest communication, yet many funny parts. For example, the beast master disciple's agony over a monk's flute playing had me laughing in stitches. There's also enough mystery/tension to move the story along.

In this novel, the cultivation world has evolved from a zero-sum survival game to a civilized everyone-prospers-together mentality. It was a wonderful read and I'd highly recommend it. I could easily imagine this being made into a xianxia television drama... <<less

It was generally a really fluffy and cute story, and I enjoyed it a lot. I read the Chinese version, so I cannot talk about the translation quality, but only the story overall. Minor and major spoilers hidden. Pros:
1. The male lead isn't a f*cking jerk. The male lead is actually gentle (to the MC).
Spoiler

The male leads even frickin' acts cute to the MC because of something she once said ("It's fine to act cute when you're sick"or something like that).

[collapse]
2. The romance is actually developed overtime.
3. The ML and MC actually love each other and trust each other, unlike most Chinese novels with misunderstandings surrounding the couple everyday (maybe you like more drama, but I like peace.)
4. Additional fluff= they do hug and carry each other.
Spoiler

- they actually get f*cking married

[collapse]
5. Although the MC and ML is overpowered, they have their flaws and quirks.
Spoiler

the ML has a damaged body (?) and coughs, gets embarrassed easily from the MC, and the female lead really likes eating and sometimes believes that things which happens in books are real, not that it is a flaw) Well, these flaws kinda disappeared in the end, which was bit of a bummer.

[collapse]
6. *Clap**clap* CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Although (sadly) mostly concentrating on the male lead, there is actually character development that shows how the ML turns from a cold, unfeeling person to a (kinda) nice person.
7. The MC actually thinks and doesn't fight someone stronger than her because they were bad-mouthing her, and only fights someone stronger than her when she has an actual serious reason (which is not bad-mouthing or silly cat fights) AND has someone strong backing her. She can make reasonable decisions and call for help when cornered or run when powerless.

Cons:
1. The MC and ML don't actually kiss on the mouth throughout the story (or maybe my brain just skipped scenes that they kissed mouth-to-mouth) (just a small thing of mine to read about couples kissing lol)
2. The story despite about romance, doesn't really delve deep into how the MC and ML fall in love with each other. It brushes over how they fell in love with each other quickly (not even leaving an impression on me how the ML fell in love, cause I can't remember [and i'll have you know I'm pretty good at remembering plots] and even the MC fell deeply in love with the ML because of some artifact that "deepens the bond between two couples")
3. The MC and ML are really OP, it's fine if you like OP protags, but it can get annoying how easily the MC and ML defeat bad guys.
4. Irrelevant characters appear, not even side characters or passerby's that have a use, just a random character, give him/her a name, have them appear in front of the MC or ML and do stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with the plot.
5. The MC is very lucky, almost ridiculous
Spoiler

People have been searching the extremely rare ingredients to heal the ML in a hundred years, when she shows up, in less than a year they gather more than 4 precious ingredients.
They are missing one ingredient and the small plant the female lead picks up and plants just so happen to be it?
The last ingredient they need has to be taken when they first plant the tree? The MC just so happens to have kept it when she planted it!
They need help because they can't defeat the evil emperor guy by themselves? The guy the MC buys salted fish from just so happens to be a super strong guy who is a dragon!

[collapse]
Anyways, she has EXTREMELY ridiculous luck, and honestly, it makes me annoyed.
6. The ending is a bit fast-paced and is from an outsider's view (is a first-person narration from a random guy who met the MC and ML). The ending also doesn't talk much about the female lead and doesn't actually talk about if the MC and ML died or ascended (cause that's basically the title of the story).

Despite this, the story was my cup of tea (mostly) and I would recommend this only if you like fluffs and don't mind OP characters and is fine with a story with no precise ending.

Sorry for the bad English, it isn't my mother language. Thank you for reading my review. Sorry for making you read this long review until the end.

Big kudos to the translator for picking up this absolute gem!

This was such a relaxing, fluffy read. The supporting characters are absolutely hilarious (shout out to the whole of Splendid Cloud Sect), and this story is just so full of heart, hope, and optimism. What a massive contrast from other cultivation stories, where the MC is always an underdog that then has to fight enemies over and over again to power up. In fact, this story actually makes fun of regular cultivation stories in the most awesome, meta way. It's... more>> so refreshing to see the 'good' orthodox sects actually take on the role of doing good.

Particular points I loved:

  • This book didn't pit women against women. Oh, no sirree! Shout out to Li Rou, who will let neither hell nor high water separate her from the FL. All the female characters were strong, independent, and didn't need no man.
  • THE FLUFF! This has been mentioned repeatedly in other reviews, but it bears repeating. I have almost never seen so much intense, one-on-one interaction between a ML and FL before. But these two idiots are so cute, almost as soon as they see each other they never separate again. The whole story thereafter is just their ridiculous, disgustingly cute interactions, with everyone else cheerleading for them to get together (shout out to Jin Yue, the biggest cheerleader of them all, and Elder Li, the eternal third wheeler).
  • Characters who actually have logic motivating their actions, and bottom line principles that they stick to (yes Shuang Qing, I'm talking about you).
I didn't know how much I needed this book to recover mentally. It's just so nice to read something where everyone is reasonable and has moral principles. What a nice world to live in. <<less

I really like the idea of this novel, and the plot and characters aren't bad either, but for whatever reason the writing style kind of grates on me a little bit. There's a lot of jumping between past and present tense. So despite liking it very much, it's a little painful to read. No one else in the reviews seems to have this problem though, so maybe it's just me?

Wow... just... wow...

I have no words to describe it. This is most definitely the best thing I’ve read on this website by far; from the character development to the balance between romance and plot, everything is perfect. The author crafts Kong Hou to be a female lead who is incredibly intelligent but not pretentious at all. She is kind, has common sense, and knows to act rationally while still possessing a realistic and cheerful personality.

In short, this is a novel I would recommend to anyone at anytime; it will not... more>> disappoint. Each chapter is quite long too so that’s a plus❤️❤️ <<less

5/5 Halfway through and this has already cemented it's place in my heart as one of the greater webnovels of all time and is probably as good as if not better than 'world of cultivation' - the other major novel on the site. Translation quality wise - all you need to know is that dreamsofjianghu is the translator and is one of the best and most consistent translators out there.

What does it have going for it?

Female MC who isn't a pushover, who has her own feelings, opinions, etc...

Male MC who... more>> isn't abusive / a terrible human being. There is still some of the overused 'cold to everyone but the FL' trope here, but it luckily seems to be quite mild.

Cultivation system - like all such Josei novels the cultivation system exists only to serve the story, but unlike lesser works where the author is unable to prevent it from actively hindering the work - this author succeeds quite well.

The greatest strength though would have to be either the incredibly sugary romance between the two leads or the cast of the world who are deliberately the exact opposite of characters we see in most chinese webnovels yet with many more dimensions / far more depth than similar japanese counterparts. <<less

This story is the best and you can't help it but smile at every chapter you've read. It's very cute. The MC is cute and smart also very lucky. The ML is also cute, when he pretending to know everything. I had laugh in the chapter when they were cooking (?) the mushrooms. ML is very shameless. Lying to child is no good, ML (≧∇≦) but you're cute so I'll forgive you.

BTW I pitied Lin Hu for had to accompany those two wastrels.. (σ≧▽≦) σ This cultivation world is peaceful, even... more>> some evil cultivators here and there but most people can actually think properly and never do anything that disturb the peace.

The translation is good too. Give it a try, you might like it. ฅ'ω'ฅ <<less

Kong Hou is a good girl that radiates cuteness. The only other female child protagonist to give me the same feeling was Leslie from webtoon/novel Monster Duchess and the Contract Princess.

I just love this story setting her sect is so chill and there is no backstabbing involved unless you count the cultivation novels she's a fan of.

I have read maybe 100 novels or so of the asian variety and this one has been my favorite one so far. Certain other novels I admit I may have found more interesting than this one and enjoyed them more than this one at times, but with other novels there was always that dull shitty bit before the good face slapping or leveling up or whatever that was the big chemical release in your brain. In this novel I have felt completely at peace and have not even been as... more>> much as slightly annoyed at anything I have read yet. I would describe this novel as surprising and refreshing coming out of this genre which is normally like the story books the protagonist of this novel reads. I also have a lot of anime that I have watched with this same kind of hard working girl gets sh*t on by life but then turns around and finds happiness and I really love this genre. I really hate cynical things or melodramatic things and prefer to feel good. This novel is like a bowl of weed while sitting in a comfy deck chair under some shade and your close family keeping you company. It also made me laugh multiple times which is extremely strange since I am really depressed and have been for over a decade so I tend to not find much funny. <<less

One of the best xianxia novels. Characters are well written and MC and ML interactions are realistic and not superficial like in most novels. Our MC is quite cute the way she interacts the world and people around her. Can't say anymore but it's a must read.

Fluff. Fluff. Fluff.

Don't think too hard reading this. I would say this is like a palate cleanser. If you are very familiar with cultivation novels, and also cultivation novel spin-offs... then this is a breath of fresh air! Unlike other satires, this one plays it straight. It is not as rosy colored as Kong Hou sees it, but at also not as dark as other novels. Based on the interaction between sects, you can tell that it used to be a lot more brutal and while they are capable of... more>> it, it's easier to just play nice.

You don't read this to see a protagonist struggle and suffer in the road to cultivation. KH has a road that is as smooth as honey/butter. That is refreshing to see! She is a genius, but she works hard while trying to sneak in a novel or two. What else would a spoiled 16 year old girl do? It's relatable in that sense.

Others can scheme for her, and we even see what might be the potential ML. It's really just cotton candy flavored with some cultivation setting. Treat it as such and smile your way through reading the chapters!

Thank you to wyhcwe for always bringing the best novels out for us English readers! I'm a long time fan and keep up the fantastic work! <<less

Love love love this FL. Honestly would have been fine if there was no ML because she's the star of this story, I don't think he added much (or anything) at all.

Overall it's a fluffy light hearted novel so know what you're getting into. If you're looking for face slapping and serious scenes, probably save this one for another time (I would still recommend reading this though if you ever want some fluff).

The plot is nice, it has a nice build up and I really like the MC and ML character. Both of them are adorable and refreshing but maybe because I've read so many novel esp a wuxia genre, so its kinda hard for me not to feel bored bc its always the same thing. I wish the author could add something new but overall the novel is good and the translator also did a good job translating this novel. Its a beautiful work
