“Compared to our time, the current generation just aren’t as reliable” they said, “Still, isn’t he the son of the Hero?” How annoying.

It’s been over ten years since the battle between mankind and the demons ended. The children of the heroes who saved the world are all grown up.

One of them, Earth, was a talented man, and everyone expected him to succeed his father as a warrior and defend his country, but Earth was always wary of his father’s title.

One day, Earth is shocked to find his father’s sword, which was used to overthrow the Demon King, sealed in his family’s mansion.

Because trapped within was the ghost of the Great Demon King who was unable to pass on and continued to roam the world.

For some reason, only he could see the spirit of the Demon King, and the Demon King possessed him through the sword.

Every day, forced to coexist with the spirit of the Demon King, they live a strange shared life, when the Demon King whispers to Earth on a whim.

“I have a grudge against your father. If you want to get back at your father and the world, I’ll train you. I’m free.”

Earth receives special personal guidance from the Demon King just to get back at his parents and the world.

Then, in the coming days. The hero’s parents, the heroes of the past, the first love, the princess childhood friend, the geniuses of the era, and the world will tremble.

As others mentioned the beginning of novel was enjoyable but once MC leaves his city it all went down hill. The demon king is supposed to be evil/cunning/lies/etc.., but he's not and is just someone with power who helps the MC. Just don't like how the novel is heading and it's not interesting anymore.

Really love stories like this, MC is angry, hateful, underestimated but then gets help from humanities greatest enemy who doesn’t like a story like that.

Sadly, I agree with many of the negative comments here. From the start I was really enjoying this one. Unfortunately, as the story progressed, it slowly turned into a hot mess. Maybe not a dumpster fire, but still for me at least, it just left a bad taste.

Reached my tolerance point at chapter 95 (where I am dropping it) due to:

The MC is saved/kidnapped while using breakthrough and running as fast as he can but can't quite lose his mom and others. When he wakes up, he just meekly follows along doing as his captor orders. Then loses each and every physical test he tries until.... he sees the 13-year-old nun in a dress run off because she's late for school. He then just gives up on the speed test because the little girl is faster than him even using breakthrough... WTF?!? A speed that one of the seven heroes can only match is easily beaten by a little girl in a dress. I call BS, so much for any semblance of suspension of disbelief. When after all the training and fights etc. the MC goes through to get stronger and he gets spanked by a tiny nun. Yup stick a fork in me, because I'm done.

The beginning was great. I was really impressed with the realistic portrayal of insecurity in the MC and his feelings towards his friends and family. The expectations of being a hero's son and pressure from society really does weigh him down and at the end of the first volume when he finally got noticed as himself it's in a negative way

Spoiler

Seriously. The end of volume 1 when Earth finally wins but is denied by his parents and Sadiz is so raw and emotional. Really hit the feels when he finally snapped at his parents.

[collapse]

I rate the first volume 4 stars.

But second volume onwards it starts to go downhill. Especially the plot with the kunoichi etc. The only redeeming moments were Sadiz and MC's mother's pov. The ninja girl (shinobu) is really annoying. Also I want to kill that garbage princess phianse. That princess doesn't deserve MC's forgiveness cause she caused a lot of damage to him.

Also the demon lord is a super cute training otaku? Like I expected him to be you know more evil type cause he's said to be like that but so far we've only seen his cute dorky side. Idk man

Really I feel that only Sadiz has some sort of sincere feelings for Earth.

Basically vol 2 onwards story becomes super boring. Basically a shonen harem type with dense MC who goes on adventures around the worlsld while training to become stronger under instructions from his teacher. Overall 3 stars <<less

A shounen battle novel and a really good one at that.

If you are here for the harem/romance tag, you may find it disappointing.

IMO the highlight of the series is not it's romance but it's action, yes, you saw it right. Many people may agree that action scenes are potrayed just decently or below average in a light novel but this one simply raises a middle finger to people who thought so, including me lol.

Feels like the OST from One Punch Man 'BATTLE!!' just fits so well with the fight scenes... more>> in this novel and if an anime adaptation is done by a studio other than madhouse, ufotable or Bones it will be heresy.

That one person in the review section states as if the MC is scum and to those who are avoiding this one thinking so, NO, he's not. Feels like the reviewer was on their time of the month, if you get what I mean. But at the same time he's not someone extremely unique. Just your regular shounen protagonist.

Don't let that bother you though unless you are extremely picky with your protagonists who have to be 100% badass like Sakamaki Izayoi or Kiyotaka Ayanokouji.

Best I can describe him is Naruto or Asta without the 24/7 yelling.

Light spoiler. Won't really spoil anything regarding the plot or characters of the story but rather the quality of the story

Spoiler

after his first fight, the quality drops by a bit but don't drop the novel yet since the arc that I'm currently in is building up the hype enormously.

This right here is some excellent shounen. It's not isekai.

It seems to take inspirations from Gurann Lagann, minus the mechas. Even the MC's name is Earth Lagann. The fights are just as epic and gets your blood pumping.

You'll definitely enjoy reading this if you liked stories like Mushoku Tensei or Sevens.

I anticipate an anime adaptation sooner or later, that's how good this is.

I really love the first 40 chapters it's talk about a real life problem, parents whom come back once a year and still pretend that they are normal family and nothing is wrong, excepting you to be a copy or a better version of themselves even though they never bother raising you. People who draw an entire map of your future and get dissatisfied when you don't match there unreasonable expectations.

This is such a good novel. The fantasy isn't anything new but the story brings in actual realistic problems people have and the MC just happens to have those problems. I saw some people say Earth is pe*verted but I don't see how. He's a hormonal teenager thinking about the girl he's in love with. I laughed and even teared up because some parts are emotional. And the action is solid too because in a fantasy world, the MC is The only one going against expectations. He's not even an... more>> OP MC, just a hard worker with a great teacher. This isn't a revenge story, it's about the MC proving something to everybody.

update Ch115 - I'm gonna be honest without spoiling anything. The novel is starting to go downhill. The story isn't moving on and it's stuck in a place where there's no development. Still I suggest reading it and when you get to the Island Arc, hope it gets better. <<less

just finished reading it and I think its one of the best novels out there a really refreshing read we see how the MC struggles and how he starts overcoming himself and growing. I really like how the MC doesn't stay in one place a moves around aiming for more. I just wish they would put more pov's from the parents and make reunions a little faster its been more than 200 chaps but nothing of the parents [reunion].

I heard from numerous sources that the quality of the story drops after what's covered in the manga (to the end of part 2, chapter 63).

The one's who make that claim need to kindly choke on their lies.

This right here is peak shonen- it follows a protagonist who continually pushes himself and grows both as a fighter and a man. There's comedy and action- scenes that make you cheer like a bastard and scenes that warm the heart. There's also times where you'll find your heart hurting, because the light... more>> novel never forgets that you have to hurt to grow.

It can be immature, certainly, but that's appropriate, and if you miss the mature moments because of that, then frankly you're not paying attention.

Tl;dr- anyone who says the quality of the authors work drops is full of lies, and anyone who enjoyed the manga should enjoy this. <<less

It's your typical clich jap novel. The story definitely starts out well with plenty of exposition towards its current setting and back story towards its characters. The fighting is front and center while romance is mostly on the back burner. Honestly it's a decent read up to a certain point as the author does ok with character development. But for me I felt unmotivated to read anymore of this novel as it feels like the author is just intentionally pushing the MC down. He gets stronger and wins a fight.... more>> But suddenly oh there's this new character that is 10x stronger than you, but don't worry the master will make you stronger in a short period of time. Oh did I forget to mention that MC will just always barely be able to win cuz of his "heart", "willpower", or omega denseness. It feels like DragonBall z but goku is a beta instead of an alpha Chad or better put why did you place this guy as a rival if there's a new rival out of nowhere that's 10x better. Not to mention the author is always putting the MC down. It's not even humbling it's literally just oh you got good score? Well this bit*h is better than you, ha you loser. Also he only grows up in terms of heart and fighting, not really much else in any other department. He doesn't get better at reading people, smarter, or is always listening to other people instead of thinking for himself outside a fight. Those are just my gripes. <<less

I almost never write reviews unless I'm absolutely astounded at how bad something is. That is not the case today, ladies. As much as I appreciate the Demon King and our adorable clueless protagonist the reason that I'm writing this review is because I f*cking love the relationship between Sadiz and Earth. God damn for some reason their s*upid sh*t just makes me laugh and smile so much. 5/5 just for the maid

Agh it's just so good. All of the character interactions are interesting and make me feel genuine... more>> emotion. Which is actually hilarious because every single character is named after their (supposed) role in the story haha. Phianse (Fiance). Rebal (Rival). Hiro (Hero). Muam (Maam, like mom or madam?). Shinobu (literally just a ninja). Bro (Bro). Fu? (Definitely gonna become a magical shota boy. Awaiting the transformation scene). Sadiz (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Treinar (Trainer).

Top tier novel, couldn't recommend it more. Edit: 6/5 for Aka

Edit 2: 7/5 for Bro

Edit 3 (As of chapter 256) : I read ahead and braved through some scary raws but boyo was it worth it. There are just certain parts of this story that I absolutely love and re-read again and again. <<less

i came here after reading the manga. I didn't really expect that I would find such a gem here.

i didnt read that much novels, but still, this one is good. Or to say, very good.

the author is doing a great job by keeping up with the current flow. Protagonist was not any prodigy nor was some spoiled kid. Being the sole child of the hero and the war maiden, he couldn't satisfy everyone's expectations. He choose his own path. The character development of protagonist deserves 9 out of 10. From... more>> a dense teeanger, he is slowly becoming a man. I am looking forward to the day where he beats the so called god odin and surpassess his master the GREAT DEMON KING TREAINE'R. <<less

The first part (literally called part 1) which is around 40-50 chapters was honestly great. It was far better than I expected and if not for that I'd probably have rated this series a 5 because of how much I enjoyed it.

Then the later parts happened. It honestly became a bit of a mess after part 1. It became ultra-shounen where powerlevels are whatever the author needs in order to advance the plot the way they want and events just happen to converge in a way convenient for the main... more>> character where mistakes they make that should have a virtually 100% chance of at minimum getting themselves killed or even ending up with their entire families wiped out magically turn out alright. The main character also turns into an idealist, though that transformation is at least consistent and done well.

Spoiler

Specifically for the mistake was the MC literally saving the life of someone who had one of the highest positions in the kingdom while said person was doing illegal things and talking about how he's gonna destroy the main character's family. Even while the MC saved him, because the MC talked back to him for being annoying he was going off about how no one would believe their testimony and he'd end up killing them and everyone they were trying to save. If not for convenient plot armor, the main character's family would've been destroyed by the minister and the main character's friends would've been killed and/or ens*aved and functionally worked until their deaths.

[collapse]

Overall I'd say it's still enjoyable, but turns into a completely typical shonen series so it was rather disappointing for me where I had such high expectations after the first part. <<less

It's definitely a good read. The same author as 'Isekai Tensei – Kimi to no Saikai made Nagai koto Nagai koto'. The author has a unique point where he tends to include quite a bit of passionate dialogues even in the battle scene. It could be good or bad depending on your cringe-tolerance. There is definitely character development for the MC and he is not exactly your usual broken overpowered main protag. MC is somewhat down to earth thus more relatable.

Now on to why it's bad. The is somewhat typical... more>> harem where the heroines are in easy mode. MC is not exactly dense but due to various reasons, their feelings didn't get across. This might irritate some readers that do not like heroines that are too 'easy'.

Now, the above review is purely on the novel. If only the translator could get a proofreader, this novel translation could have been much better. Not trying to say that the translator didn't put in effort. But some of the chapters are as bad as copy pasted mtl. <<less

It's nice story. There are small issues but I think it's worth trying

MC really feels like teenage and he really leaves IN the world. I mean there is not that much plot armor for now, there are lucky coincidences but not on the level of gods blessings, awakenings and random skill which MC will need in next chapter.

Amount of monologues is annoying but bearable. Fists against sword is s*upid but still acceptable.

I really like first arc (Worst day of his life) so I read ahead use mtl until I reached lastest raw chapter at moment (prologue+199chapters)

So in short..... this demon king, true to his name actually bodybuilder.... and 90% of training is just muscle training /facepalm in 200 chapters he only learned 5 combat magic (breakthrough/demon spiral/magical breathing/generic earth magic to solidify wet ground/Giga drill breaker) and story is really like generic shonen+sport manga (mostly in second tournament arc)

Interaction between earth and trainer is somewhat enjoyable though and harem....... more>> /sigh let's just say he running always from most of them until later arc (there're 4 righ now but since xxx gender is.... i'll use author's words "I will leave it to each individual decision" so maybe it's 5)

So, in conclusion I expect it to be sword/magic novel and disappointed but will still give it 4 star for Giga drill breaker some peak moments and first arc. <<less

Started off... SOO AMAZINGLY.

nothing else to say but it falls of in terms of how well the author writes, the author probably wrote a highly motivated start to a book and with no other choice except to continue on this spree creates a washed up mess, you can take breaks when writing, especially don't write because you need to pump out a chapter in the weeks deadlline.

I’ve read this in the past and I will only mention from what I remember with this blurry memories of mine.

  1. First, the world building. Heroes are interesting, (idk how tho), and there’s this ancient human guys that was seemingly waaaay better at science than the current living humans
  2. Ahh, yes, the classic Hero (which his name is literally Hiro in the novel). Good at saving the world but sucks at parenting. If that planet has a worst father award, Hiro would’ve gotten it. (I don’t remember why I am saying this but I remember that I don’t like mc’s father)
  3. And yes, themore fatherly-figure than the father itself, also the literal god of the world in which makes me doubt how the f*** did Hiro and the other heroes defeated this guy, Treiner. Taking the name of ‘Trainer, ’ the author made his name a catchy pun, and I like this name for some reason.
Alright, joke aside, I actually like Treiner alot. Despite being the smartest man, strongest man, an omniscience existence, he actually has a lot of interesting hobby, one that can even be taken as ‘childish’ he likes reading books, he likes riding horse, he likes cooking, he likes doing survival game (?)

Considering these hobby despite being a demon king at one, I feel such character likeable.
With great hobby comes with great personality. The training way Treiner educate Earth (was this the mc’s name?) takes the training of modernity like ‘stepping ladder’ ‘jumping rope’ ‘punching bag’

There’s this strange presence one could feel from a great teacher ‘I will do fine if I completely master this.’

Not just is Treiner a teacher Treiner was also a fatherly-figure to MC. He taught a lot to Earth about life, comforted him when he’s sad (though secretly cause Treiner’s tsundere), be happy with MC when he’s happy.
He’s something like a best friend, who will fill your nothingness, whatever your father couldn’t.

There’s alot more to say about this novel but I am lazy.
if I am to complain something, it’s the fact that the author ended the novel forcefully to write other novel.
There was many more to this novel.
Also I ship Shinobu x Earth. Clone x Earth isn’t bad either but other than that? Saditz x Earth? Nah. Age gap + too sadistic. Princess x Earth? Nah. Too tsundere. Noja x Earth? Too pushy and pervy.

Pretty good. Its good for those who don't like the "my friend's power" troupe, but still desire a hot steamy man to man fight.

Most the fight are 1-on-1 which makes reading it feels exciting. Rather than pure strength or friendship bull, its about tactics and heart to fight. Even though it's tactic based, its very hot steamy battle.

The story is bretty good. It themed on family, self discovery, and adventure. I also really like how Earth's conflict with his parents, actually shapes how Earth treat children. Not only that, but... more>> a lot of his decision making really influenced by his conflict, his master, and the people that become important to him.

The author is really good at delivering meaning in MC's fight despite there is not such a thing such as saving the world goal. <<less
