A good adventure novel from a BL standpoint.

Though I'm only on chapter 261, I've enjoyed this more than the Legendary Master's Wife so I figure I should give this a review!

1/1 writing style: primary thing that's better than TLMW.

... more>> 1/1 character development: this is a slowww process since barely half a year has passed in these 260 chapters and there are so many characters present. However, the main and side CP are progressing smoothly in both love and personal affairs.

2/2 plot: From what has been presented so far, some of the plot twists has been presented and makes this story fairly unique in that it combines both the pugilistic life with the royal courts. I'm interested to see how it plays out.

Also, I'm highly focus on all the side couples and feel like they need mini-stories of their own O_O

1/1 enjoyment: have been binge reading this and now and preventing myself from MTL the rest so I can read the good quality translations. <<less

It's a decent read. Has a good build up and there isn't any rush in the character developments, but it felt repetitive and the plot is rather boring.

Also, there are some things that disturbed me about the relationship dynamic between the MC and ML and some, I didn't feel quite right.

Spoiler

I know MC and ML are not related at all, but it disturbs me to see siblings fall in love regardless (?). Also, ML is 13 at the start of the story whereas MC is 17. A tad disturbing.

[collapse]

Plot is repetitive due the the fact that the MC wins all the challenges that he faces and it's honestly boring to read the same plot for 700++ chapters. There were great character developments, but the plot development was bad. The ending also felt really rushed and out of place and I felt that I was reading it for the sake of reading it and not because I enjoy the plot at all.

Also, there are too many side couples that by the time you finish the book, you wouldn't remember most of them.

TLDR: kind of in*est (?), repetitive plot, includes young adult and a minor, no plot development. <<less

I first thought this would be like LMW but I was wrong, they aren't one bit similar.
One thing I most disliked about this novel is that most of the comedic moments don't feel natural and the BL is so little with cultivation stuff overwhelmed. Anyway, this is not my cup of tea and the author made MC so s*upid and so weak despite him being a powerhouse.

BUT KUDOS TO THE TRANSLATION, translators made an EXCELLENT JOB!

I'd say kinda disappointing how the MC ended up misunderstanding and killing the ML TWICE in their lifetime. I thought their relationship would be deeper if I keep reading but I just ended up feeling like there's something lacking, especially because the last chapters were even more of a disappointment.

The main couple just doesn't have enough chemistry, even till the end, it feels forced. Like MC feels like he owed the ML too much cuz he mistreated him in the past, esp when he finally understood what happened in the 1st life. ML feels like he only like MC cuz he's the only family he got, and probably after being rejected so much from the past, he's finally being treated right so he wants to cherish it.

I also don't like that there is no unwavering trust between them, even I think it would be impossible considering they always hide things from each other.

[collapse]

All in all, I cannot enjoy such a relationship. The story building here is better than Legendary Master's Wife, but not the chemistry between the main cp.

Even though it has so many chapters, the author still did not choose to portay, a stable relationship with no misunderstanding. Which is why, the ending seems lacking. You keep longing for that fluff, mutual understanding, forgiveness, and redemption between them but instead, you get even more revelations about their past and then there comes the beginning of another round of hiding the truth and more lies. I really wish that the author delved more on how to better deepen their relationship, but I guess even the author is not that attached to the couple.

endured 32 chapters. People who reach the end are probably some paranormal beings, because to read this you need to have inhuman patience. It is so fresh that even the ugly face of the bottom does not make the story brighter. The beginning of the first chapter was so bloody bloody that I thought it would be a good chew. But this gum has no taste! If you've read any revival novels at all, you've read this one, right down to the villainous ex-relatives/friends. To the extent that the content... more>> of the short chapters is not very interesting, and the main character is too Stew, these time-consuming tigers are constantly in the frame. No, small talismans are not liked in themselves. Small mascots work well when they don't look like the standard cute creatures for the main character to beat and cause at least something other than annoyance. <<less

It's a good read. Although I wish the author could write some extras about happened to the other side characters/couples (em dying to know (╯ರ ~ ರ) ╯︵ ┻━┻).

It is fun to read and I can't count how many times this story made me anxious at one part then make me laugh after. The characters are really lovable and I really really wish for them to have an extra chapters where they can just casually talk among themselves and have interactions.

Im surprised at how many negative reviews there are! I quite enjoyed the novel. The cultivation part of it and the dog blood drama and many many MANY CPs. Hahaha.

I liked quite a few characters, I do think there's a few things underdeveloped and left unanswered, as well as a few things I could do without. Wish there were extras to fill in some of the plot holes the author left.

But the main story is finished and the novel was fun and enjoyable to read. There were some heartbreaking... more>> moments too. I would recommend it if anyone is thinking of giving it a go. <<less

I'm too invested with this book because it's just too good. I love the characters (I know they have their flaws but I still love them) the plot and its twist (which I haven't expected at all, for real). The events was kinda unexpected (their past, because I haven't thought of it at all). All in all, it's great.

Maybe this story is not for everyone's liking but this kind of story fits with me (I'm in love with stories with this kind of genre) I started reading this when it... more>> has only been translated to 723 chapters that's why I stopped, but I guarantee I will finish this sooner. <<less

My current thoughts on this novel:

I have currently dropped this novel at CH235 and cannot take this any longer. The high ratings on here are just flat out delusional.

- Worth noting, the MC & ML POV is unique to say the least. Not many novels I’ve read have switched the traditional role of the “transmigrator or time traveler” and turned them into the Main Character when the plot has romance elements to it.

You’ll get it if you’ve read a couple chapters. The role and circumstances the MC is in,... more>> would NOT usually be reserved for an MC who also happens to be the ML.

- The story centers around the MC who is also the ML Lin Xuanzhi & the love interest who is Yan Tianhen. In terms of their dynamics, it’s really all over the place.

- Because the MC is Lin Xuanzhi but he also happens to be built in the same way that other ML’s in other stories are written, we as the reader directly bear the annoying tropes that come to characters that are written ‘as pursuers of an MC’ like Lin Xuanzhi.

For example: Imagine you were reading Mirai Nikki who’s MC was Yukiteru & the ML was Yuno. We all know how crazy she is & all the tropes that fill her characterisation. Now imagine the roles were reversed and suddenly Yuno is our only POV & was the MC.

Maybe Lin Xuanzhi isn’t exactly like Yuno but it is extremely draining to have him as the POV for this story as he brings along everything I hate about ML’s in BL and forces me, the reader to have to be in his POV all the dam time.

- Now on to Yan Tianhen. He is occupying what should have been the ML’s role. I cannot stand Yan Tianhen as a character. He’s written really wantonly. Useless, weak, crying all the time & acting like a coy prostitute. He does not resemble a main character at all, nor a love interest, but rather cannon fodder. You know what they say, you can dress a pig in gold, but it’s still a pig at the end of the day.

Yan Tianhen just serves to further drag the story along and force fluffy moments into a crumbling & non-existent plot.

Another scathing point I’d like to make is that the enemies & side characters are flat out forgettable. 1D almost. Just nothing. They barely have any unique qualities to them and seems to me that 99% off them were cut from the same cloth. Mind you, I'll be forgiving to them, because look at the main characters in this series ! Like mother, like daughter I guess.

Enemies are predictable and have zero substance to them.

The face slapping that occurs in this novel only seek to heighten the strength and power of the MC; but it’s boring & cringe at best.

This novel reminds me strongly of heteros*xual cultivation novels. It has all of the same junk tropes similar to a story like Soul Land by Tang Jia San Shao minus the jade like beauties falling out of the sky with endless descriptions of pale beauty & thinness. In this novel the substituted the jade like beauties with BL annoyances (tropes) in it as well.

Lucky us I guess.

- Treasures miraculously been found; falling from the sky or created.

- All enemies are conveniently dealt with.

- No real struggle at all in this plot for anything to be earned.

- Sudden jumps in strength for no rhythm or reason; (I guess the Dao must rEalLy FaVouR them *cough cough insert author here:*

- Too much plot armor and a nonsense author.

---

Notes on translation: The translation was fine, no complaints really.

---

Notes on rating: If I could give it a zero, I would. This novel absolutely irked me. I would rant more but I honestly just cannot wait to rid this series from my memory and forget about it.

I would never recommend this novel, even to my worst enemy. <<less

An extremely enjoyable read for me, leagues above other long cultivation novels of the same length. I'll just summarize very quickly what I liked

  • A lot of standard cultivation novel scenes (plants, farming, secret space, auctions, money-making) but much fleshed out with sect and imperial politics
  • A big cast of supporting characters, many of which are also very fleshed out and you end up cheering for the success of their love stories
  • This is a big one: many antagonist characters who've tried to go against the MC or the MC's camp of "good people"/unlikeable enemy characters/petty love rivals are not all universally evil and in many cases, will do things for the good of all. Their vendettas against the MC/ML become personal vendettas that doesn't prevent them from acting like human beings in other situations. THIS IS AMAZING?
    • In other novels, love rivals or enemies are all absolute 1D tr*sh who will betray the world for their personal gain or jealousy -- not the case in this novel.
  • MC and MC's camp are morally upstanding people. They don't seek out trouble, retaliate x50 every little "injury" they receive, and in fact are often more focused on the bigger picture than the gossipers or naysayers following their wake. Of course, revenge is necessary, but it's never too cruel, but just the right amount.
  • And finally, I love the setup inside the novel that pretty much everyone (due to existence of prophets) know who the MC/Chosen of Heaven are, so now we see the consequences of that;
TL;DR

Much better than LMW. I could read another 300 chapters of this novel. Great translation quality maintained throughout. Sad the author ended it tbh.

Please gib papa-transmigrator story.

At first, I thought I would drop this because of the many chapters, but I found myself enjoying it.

The pacing is excellent and doesn’t drag the story out. All the characters are round and their stories are nice too.

The romance between LZ and XWS is unexpectedly so cuuute heheheh. I love the angst between them and between YM and YZH too. The MC is actually not unreasonably OP, and his love story is quite good too.

I'm not sure if I should write this review. But this thought gotta go somewhere, I guess. There's no point in asking if this webnovel worthy of your time or not considering the long chapters. I'm already at ch 539, I might as well finish this.

Some things are already mention by other reviewers (e.g : Dianhua) so I won't repeat again.

There are a lot of characters in this novel. It is afterall a 700+ chapters. That said, story aside, there's bound to be character that you're fond of and not. Unfortunately of the 2 most important characters, Yan Tianhen fell into the later one. We follow his journey throughout the story from his early teen until his young adult state. Although there's some growth in his physical and ability as a cultivator, his mentality deserve more questions. His headstrong mentality often found him justifying his action, regardless situation doesn't need him to be so. Often times his remarks are on point but almost always provocative. It's contradictory to their low profile life goals. Sometime I wonder if his miserable past life are also part of his own doing. But I won't put the blame just on him. I mean, how could I when almost every friend and family indulge his behaviors. To be honest, he's not the only characters that make me wonder what am I doing. But not to worry because You Ming beats him as the character with the most ??? personality. I found Lin Xuanzhi more interesting. He have motivation, ambition, purpose. His scheming mind is interesting and provocative. Overkill at most but I suppose that's a main character setting. What noticeable is although not everyone but the characters on the good guy side seems to be justified to put a severe punishment because lack of real laws in their society. This gave me another thought that this writer seems to justify whatever the 2 main characters are doing because they're miserable in previous timeline.

Fast forward to 500ish chapter : some things are interesting and some not. Stories are divided into arc to make it easy. But it still suffer from too many characters, too many subplots. There's too many telling and less showing in this writer style. Some characters seems to be build for later showdown, but then resolve too quick to satisfy the reading experience. What I don't like is most of their villain are a bit... clowny. I suppose their purpose is just to make you feel better when Lin Xuanzhi and Yan Tianhen punish them. Which in fact I do. But.

Come to think of it. Their world has already pass for thousand of years but still there's no form of Justice. As in no state of severe policing, judgement and law in their society. That would solve like... 50% of Lin Xuanzhi problem.

[collapse]

Well. This thought has gone and stray far too long. I don't suppose this review is helping anyone. I don't know, thanks for the space, I guess? I'll persevere and read on. <<less

What I like about this novel is that the main character is not that OP (the kind that is faultless and invincible), only that he has his golden finger which is his past memories and a thousand years of 'soul' experience (not really that big of a deal imo). Contrary to what others say the ML is not s*upid but unselfishly devoted to MC. Both characters actually are devoted and loyal to each other. I enjoy the typical face slapping coz them cannon fodders are really infuriating but what hooks... more>> me more is how the ML cunningly maneuvers (wishing I can be half as articulate) every difficult situation he confronts that is beyond his cultivation level and resources to resolve. The main plot is good and it's compelling me to keep going.

Update: So glad I pushed through. The plot is a massive roller coaster. I have honestly underestimated the depth of the novel entirely. The author sure has plenty of great ideas. Her mind urghhhhh. Thanks for this gem author and translators. <<less

It's a pretty enrapturing read. That said, there wasn't anything particularly incredible or original about it.

Characters: 4.5/5

I like where YT's character is going for the most part, with his wit and funny comebacks. However, since he'll be awakening his bloodline this time, I'm scared he'll turn colder and twisted in the way that he treats MC (like there's already hints about how he's treating him almost like a possession?). For MC, he's pretty cool and I like how casually he causes troubles for others haha. The OPness might be getting... more>> a bit much though.. I also like that this isn't a transmigration story where a new person steps into that despicable character; MC actually was that despicable character that hated YT. It was all him. I like the side characters quite a bit too (but huangpu jin is written to be a big too confusing... I'm not a fan).

Plot: 4/5

Nothing super special but nonetheless interesting. I like that the author doesn't rush the story or the plots and they're quite patient with buildup. There's also quite a bit of mystery about where this is going.

Writing / Translation: 5/5

No problems, thanks! <<less

Apart of me is super glad I read this as late as I did when I was scouring through the BL novels. This novel here would've ruined everything else if I read this as one of the BL novels when I was first starting out.

This book is alive! The setting, the characters, everything about it is rich to where there wasn't a moment where I couldn't stop turning the pages. The plot itself starts out light with a deceptive foreshadowing of deep waters actually being deeper.

I'll admit there were some... more>> points where I needed to skip some chapters, but that only because I became impatient and wanted to know the conclusion towards the very end. Every story arc is well fleshed out and has a purpose towards the end goal.

With that being said, towards the second half of the book does get very heavy with angst to where you may need to put the book down for something light-hearted.

There's not enough words that I can think of on how I can just shower this novel with the amount of love I want.

Please read this. The translators are amazing for putting the time ans effort into this amazing novel. <<less

Hoo boy. This was a truly sprawling tale.

Translation was FANTASTIC, first off, and my gratitude towards each member of the team for carrying this monster forward is endless. It was a huge undertaking and I really appreciate and respect you all for pushing ahead on it! The length is pretty damn daunting.

Considering the length, I actually find the pacing quite admirable. I've never read a proper trilogy in english that had good pacing all the way to the end, and I especially thought the first half of this story came... more>> out really well.

However, there are far too many characters, even the author forgets about most of them by the end. So if you got attached to, say, the Crafting Emperor, then get ready for disappointment.

Frankly, I wish the last volume had been a separate story entirely, because of the narrative fatigue. Of course that would still leave a bittersweet ending with the CP unfulfilled, but it was more cathartic, satisfying, and had better pathos.

This author also doesn't like writing action sequences, which is difficult in a cultivation novel. There are some fairly significant time skips, leaving me with a lot of questions about what happens during these periods to both the main characters and the side characters. Pretty important sequences were left out entirely because it seemed like the author would have felt bored actually writing them.

This was obviously a rebirth story going in, but how many past lives do we need? I honestly would have been satisfied with just the first one. Yin Chongxue wasn't really used adequately in the third volume, which left me wondering why keep him around instead of letting him reincarnate alongside Xuan Lou, since his past life only mattered temporarily. And as for the Spirit Sect plots, it was far too much in my opinion.

There were some fairly obvious solutions to problems the main characters anticipated, which was kind of frustrating. Like, just tell him he was tortured and doesn't need to remember the pain of his past life. Just tell the Nine Lands you're getting married and resolve the succession crisis.. The communication was lacking, although at least it's because the MC and ML have good intentions of trying to protect each other from certain information instead of just being cold or wimpy.

I did like the faceslapping, the backtalking, the snapbacks, the sassy shou dads, even the MC and ML on the whole! This was a really, really good story at first, and I liked it much more than The Legendary Master's Wife or Daily Task Of Preventing My Disciple From Turning Evil. But it's so emotionally exhausting without enough satisfaction to pull you back in by the end, and unless it hits pretty specific niches for you I just feel that time is better spent elsewhere than reading this. <<less

Read till chapter 213 then dropped because I really did not expect so much melodrama in a xianxia danmei. Started out well because it seemed similar to LMW (which I loved) and goes quite indepth into cultivation lore with pill refinement, spiritual beasts, cultivation levelling up and practices, immortality, clan specifics and so on. It featured a great cast of characters, and many have their own POVs and backstories. But I did not expect that each side character would have their own angsty lovelife too. Moreover, whether it is Duan... more>> Yuyang's dogblood drama, Young Master Ji's yaoi story with his fox or Young Master Bai's love triangle, I don't understand their thinking and reasoning behind their decisions or actions. Seems to me that every decision they take will just add further drama and pile up the misunderstandings. So, when our main couple had their first fight due to some misunderstanding and seeing ML AhHen go OOC and fall into hysterics about some trivial matter, I got really bored. This totally destroyed ML's smart, straightforward and mature character setting. Also, after reading 200+ chapters, I am still not clear about MC's past life, past lovers, past events, even the historical timeline is not clear. <<less
