Hello, translator here, I will try to give a review again~

This is the best modern day parody novel I have read. I have read a lot of modern day parody novel and this is the only one where I was okay with the MC's personality, which enabled me to enjoy the face-slapping of all the other modern day typical c*cky & arrogant MCs from other novels.

Spoiler

I think that one of the main reason I'm okay with the MC's personality was because the MC is a skeleton (undead race), and he just became human a few years ago and started nurturing humanity, so its like he is growing, or aka, character development which many people would like to say.

[collapse]

The romance here is quite decent too in my opinion.
Spoiler

Although it is harem, since there only a few FLs (3 FLs as I know of from up to chapter 700+), and since everything was paced well and plotted well, I actually enjoyed reading it. Also, the MC's children are very likable, especially the first child, which is a plus.

[collapse]

If you like overpowered MC, the MC of this novel is overpowered, like literally overpowered, no bullshits of whatsoever like having to cultivate from the beginning, which is another plus.
Spoiler

MC is literally the strongest being, reading up to ch700, there is no one stronger than MC that I know of. And also, there is no disgusting plot of whatever MC's family getting kidnap and MC is threatened sort of plot, which is a HUGE plus for me

[collapse]

Also, if you love the novel 'Overlord' like me, when you read the novel, you can see bits of shadows of overlord in it. Just bits. (This is just my opinion of course.)

Spoiler

Later on in the novel, there is a girl that really reminds me of shalltear bloodfallen.

[collapse]

Honestly, the only con of this novel for me is the massive amount of cringe, but well, I guess most of modern day novel has a huge amount of cringe anyway.

All in all, in my opinion, this novel is a relaxed, face-slapping and powertrip novel (the novel shouldn't be read too seriously, if not you will get triggered in some parts). I give this novel 5 star, most probably a 4~ but I'm the translator, so... yeah~ Highly recommend this novel to everyone ^^ <<less

The recipe for romance from MC:

1. Spend the night with a woman and get her pregnant.
2. Upon learning of this, make her give birth to her child or take her child if she has already given birth.
3. Tell her that she is now only yours and should do only what you want. She has no right to have her own opinion.
4. If she is against point 3, threaten her, lock her, hit her (hitting the ass is not violence; this is funny! Correct?), lie to her.
5.... more>> Repeat point 4 until she breaks and does whatever you want.

It's so romantic! And this works if you are stronger than your victim. <<less

Find this one when browsing for overpowered protagonist CN novel, I like it very much. The MC is not your usual protagonist, I think you should add character development tag in this one. There r only 4 women MC has, but not kind of trophy woman like any other CN novel out there. Interactions between the couple are so interesting, I can't get bored for it.

The story is too much, I mean you can see it by yourself that this one have parody tag on it. So the comedy cl**ked... more>> when you have read many CN novels. Seriously when you read this one, you will think that other CN's MC is not strong like you think. Mainly it's about romance, the battle scene isn't really good (not that I read it for the battle scene in the first place). Let's talk about the romance, I think we agree that thing that we hope for CN MC is that he can protect his loved ones. Be loyal to them and spoil them. Let them lead a good life, and keep an eye for any intruder that comes. This MC is what you need.

I read the MTL version of this novel, So I can finish it earlier. It took me at least a week to do so. I don't regret reading it, just think I need more dosage of dog food from this novel...

Well, I recommend this novel if you bored about cultivation, Xuan Hua, xianxia novel that took thousand of chapters before the MC can protect their loved one. There is a lot of dog food here so be prepared. You also need some tissue, but not much. That's all I can say, happy read!!! <<less

Summary:

Crap novel with the only good point being the side stories of the subordinates. Avoid if you dislike things like excessive chainsmoking where it's mentioned every chapter, a pathetic and immature MC who becomes more pathetic and childish as he "develops", neverending fighting between the MC and the wife, children/pregnancy, bad old-style chinese ideals on relationships and overall boring "plot". Nothing good to see here. But if you absolutely love that crap, you will get your fill here. The score of this novel is nothing but misleading.

Full review:

Haaah, this was... more>> a very mixed bag for me. Imagine getting a bag of mixed candy that's badly sorted and instead of 50/50, you end up with 90% disgusting candies and 10% good ones. That's what this novel was to me.

First of all, I must honestly say that this author's preferences truly doesn't line up with my own at all. I hate soccer (rather, it might be more fair to say I hate sports in general), I hate smokers, especially chain smokers (the author mentions how he smokes every chapter and how he smells like shi... I mean, smoke), I hate outdated chinese ideals when it comes to romance, I hate children and pregnancy in novels (with the exception being some anime/manga/novel kids which is just too cute for belief, essentially ridiculously unrealistic, those are generally found only in japanese novels)... Pretty much only the part about screwing over arrogant pricks is something I truly like, at least that's the case for the main story. That and him being OP.

I don't even know whether to laugh or cry when I realized the truth of this novel, that somehow the side-stories are waaay more interesting and funny than the protagonist's scenes, like his subordinates executing some missions they received in screwed up ways. Seriously, it's supposed to be the other way around. Those are the only reason I kept on reading, it was comedy gold. The author has the potential of writing funny stuff, his subordinates screwing around was truly awesome. Sadly, those scenes are few and far between.

Let's explain why I started to pretty much hate the MC and his wife. From chapter one, I felt that this novel wasn't going to be any good. Too many things rubbed me the wrong way. But the high ratings compelled me to stay and see if things would change to the better. Some novels have crappy starts. I gave it chance after chance after chance until I knew that it wasn't going to work, but by then I was already quite a bit in and thought I might as well read the rest and focus on the funny subordinate scenes.

The MC is a chainsmoking (every time we see him, he lights another one and the author has to spell it out each time for word count and because he thinks it's oh so cool), spoiled brat, at least mentally. He's not arrogant and prideful in a cool way, he's arrogant and prideful in a way that makes him seem like those plain spoiled s*upid young masters. He will throw a tantrum every time things doesn't go his way. He literally acts like an immature brat who was spoiled rotten. He's unreasonable for no good reason. Could've been done well, but was executed exceptionally badly. He will yell about this or that and with the excuse of his cultivation of "humanity", he'll keep it all inside all while the author repeatedly narrates how "if it had been a few years ago, I would've killed them instantly" or done something similar, this is repeated almost every chaper the MC is present in. He gets pushed around by his so-called wife as well as he can't even stand up for himself, all while preparing to be indignant as everything he tries tell them ends up with refusal, mostly because he's unreasonable in a pathetic way.

That leads us to his so-called wife and her sister. His wife is an annoying woman if I ever saw one. Completely without any charm points, her only ability is to keep up a fuss. She never fails to scream and whine. Truly someone I'd like to euthanize. As for her sister, she's at least somewhat better, but being brain dead isn't necessarily a good trait. These things leads to constant fighting between the protagonist and the wife, with the sister thrown in for good measure. Yelling and screaming and fighting over everything and nothing to the point where they both get increasingly incensed and then they make up, only to start fighting again. The very reason for them getting together is ret*rded in the first place, just because he imp**gnated her and wants her to give birth to that whatever heir of his. Geez. If it's this bad now, only imagine how bad it will be once the children gets born. Also, they end up playing some fps game and talking about eating 24/7 later on. Pure word count stuff. Seems the author thinks it's funny to show these morons losing in a game.

It's just sad how this novel's main story sucks so much while the side stories show us what could've been without the s*upid relationship/romance. If the focus wasn't them quarreling, instead being on faceslapping and the girls just being a side thing that doesn't matter like in most other novels, this would've been such a good novel. It's even sadder how the MC, as the story goes on, seems to become more and more immature instead of maturing. Others may refer to this as him developing his humanity and becoming more human, I call bullsh*t about an ancient human who has slaughtered ridiculous amounts of people acting like a displeased and jealous toddler. Gaining feelings and "humanity" doesn't mean you turn into a moronic young master, right?

The grammar being kinda crap doesn't help either. Not that it's by any meaning unreadable, but it doesn't flow well with lots of errors everywhere.

I honestly have no idea why this novel has such great scores. I can't see what would compel people to rate it so highly. I even suspect the score is fake or manipulated in some way. This thing is worth at most 2/5, but the misleading scores lead me to rating it at 1/5. 0/5 for the main plot where the MC is involved and 3/5 or 4/5 for the few side character mini arcs which were actually funny and interesting to read. Just ignore this novel if you hate when the MC is incredibly pathetic and immature and when the MC and his wife never stops fighting like kids. I hope this review will spare you the time and frustration from reading this novel. <<less

The initial quarter of the story is awesome. The concept is fresh, there are tons of humorous interactions, some touching moments and an engrossing setting. Up to around 300 chapters, I would have rated this 5 stars.

After 300 chapters, the author adds too much cringy romance centered around each of the MC's subordinates. The first few ones were good (specially the skeleton's), but the latter ones are very cringy and lame. And there are entire arcs centered on these lame romances.

The MC's two wives slowly change from strong, independent, unique... more>> women to shy, obedient two dimensional girls who agree with all of MC's twisted views because of "the man is always right" ideology.

The MC himself transforms from a cool person with unique views into a lame h**ny protagonist who only thinks of having s*x with his wives most of the time.

Some people wrote in reviews that the MC slowly changes and becomes softer because of love, but from what I have read, the MC compromises on issues only because he wants to appease his wives so that he can bang them at night.

I tried to bear with all these frustrating things and continued reading past 600 chapters because of how good the initial part of the story was, but the story just keeps getting worse and I can't bear it anymore. <<less

I'm currently at around chapter 800 and I will say that this novel is pretty good. I binge read this novel from ch1 to 800 in 1week during my spare time and I really enjoy it. I super super recommend to give this novel a try. Novel plot is quite fresh for me and characters are really likable and funny and interesting to see other characters that does not belong to MC's side get played around.

Best part about this novel are most probably seeing how yehua slowly change from being... more>> coldhearted to being loving to his family and the interactions between the characters and how the typical Chinese City MCs act like they usually act and get rolled over by either MC or MC's subordinates.

If you read this novel you have to be prepared for side characters, there is one couple I really like as much as the main couple (the MC and his two wives)
Spoiler

the death mage and a woman who is the sect master of a sect is the best hahaha. They are 100% best side couple, you will love the interaction (sparkling eyes) they come up in the 100 chapters I think so readers are most likely going to see the couple soon haha

People who like this novel must adore a picky and spoiled MC in order to like this. Even if the whole purpose of the novel is to allow him to gain humanity, the MC shouldn't be acting this way. Humanity is defined as compassion, kindness, and the ability to understand others in an empathetic way.

If he is the former overlord, not a spoiler because it's in chapter 1, he should at least have the demeanor of a ruler. He should at least have the discipline and the conduct of someone... more>> who can fight against the world. It's like reading the life of a excessively fussy pampered brat that throws a tantrum over almost anything. Oh yeah, he just so happened to be all mighty and handsome so it should be fine right?

It's really not comedic, refreshing or entertaining. There is barely any world building and a lack of constructive details. I do not understand why a majority of the readers are giving this novel 5 stars and a ton of praises. Maybe it's because there is a lack of good novels being translated? In my opinion, this novel is unattractive and at most a 3.5/5 because despite this review, there are some really bad ones out there. I've been reading light novels since 2015 and I hope this review helps dissuade others from reading it. However, everyone is free to read the novel and have their own thoughts. Who knows, others might really enjoy it. <<less

If you're reading this review considering whether to check out this novel, in all honesty, DO IT.

While the tags it carries might look common, you would never expect the way it unfolds.

This isn't one of the Urban Harem novels where MC does nothing but bang chicks or collect women, nor is it your cliché Xianxia where every s*upid young master is gonna be responsible for driving the plot forward or torture the MC and kidnap his loved ones. Nope. This is one hell of a comedic masterpiece with beautiful relationships... more>> and a parallel plot.

World Building: Nothing spectacular, yet enough to support the story.

Characters: Vivid and Distinct.. One could argue that every character is telling his own story and they are their own protagonist. This is the charm of the story. It doesn't character lightly and despite varying power levels, everyone has their own story.

Romance: Where the heart of the story lies. Any relationship doesn't just pop out. The women of MC aren't collected. Their bond is nurtured with time and efforts. While there are quarrels and arguments, which relationship doesn't?

Spoiler

There are four women—Qing Ya, Qing Yu, Eastern Emperor Bai Yu, Qianyu Qing. Their Character design and growth might not be the best, but their interaction is certainly pleasing.

[collapse]

Plot:Never expected that this story would have a decent plot. While it isn't intricate or very deep, the plot is tied to the character interactions and growth, which makes it all the more relishing.

Spoiler

I don't know about you, but I really liked the ending. Very Much. The Story should've ended in the chapter preceding the final one. When Ye Hua was talking to Qing Ya, it all came back in a full circle. It was really cute, heartwarming and certainly, something which makes me smile from the bottom of my heart.

[collapse]

MC: One of the best—Cold, Arrogant, Overpowered, Domineering, Smart. He has problems with emotional intelligence, coz he is
Spoiler

trying to learn humanity.

[collapse]

That said, there are instances where I despised this guy's actions. His stubbornness at the end was nerve-racking, but the same could be said to his first two wives, who really got on his toes near the end.

Spoiler

I think he is too s*upid or the author wanted him to be that way when he killed Yi Yi or Meng Yue. It's really regrettable that his Younger Brother never fulfilled his true love. I rooted for him and Yi Yi. It was such a tragedy. I hate author for not giving them a proper ending. Tho I'd like to think that he forgot to write about her and then decided to ignore it altogether. That s*upid love too deserved a happy ending when everyone else was smiling, why did you have to just break them apart forever and kill her?

[collapse]

Conclusion: This is a hidden gem and probably the best of its kind. You are gonna miss on something awesome if you aren't gonna give this one a try. <<less

LoL, this kind of plot is fresh for me, and it's so amusing. There should be a comedy tag on it.

Though the MC is OP, but he's cute in his own way and I like how MC and his wife act.

There's gonna be a lot of character development for the MC, I'm kinda sure about it.

As a small rebuttal to a lot of other reviews here, just being something is not parody. Just having references and easily identifiable shorthand for various generic 'cheats', does not make your story a parody. Especially if no characters actually Act any differently, from those things you reference. That is not parodying a thing, that is just being that thing.

Anyways, as for this novel, it's fairly bad. Look forward to many instances of female characters being conditioned to like and be grateful for being controlled and dominated by a male.... more>> Or just in general justification of shitty behaviours via unrelated factors, eg: "he treats her like garbage, but unbeknownst he protects her, thus any and all are forgiven, and this definitely isn't effectively the author holding her life for ransom in exchange for her tolerating his mc" (my paraphrasing and summarising, not an actual sample from the story.) <<less

Utterly hilarious, and fabulously satisfying!

What's not to like? The translation is great, it's perfectly coherent, and understandable (for any concerned). But... that's just the icing on an already very sweet, and delicious cake! This novel has wonderful elements of parody, that's to say, cliche protagonists are victims of brutal mockery, and even crueler plot!

The protagonist is basically a former lich with an Emperor's mindset, whom after true death (he decided to go solo fight against the gods of his realm) with his willpower alone crafted a human vassal for him... more>> on another dimension. Earth! After coming to Earth, he's found that with everything he built gone in just an instant his ambitions mean nothing. So what does he do? Try to understand the species he previously subjugated and pushed to extinction! By...*drum roll please* claiming back his humanity. It's a fantastic concept, even though I'm not a fan of redemption at all.

Oh, and the romance interactions between his primary interest and him so far is fantastic. Not sure if it's a harem, but with how superb the author is at maintaining personality...I wouldn't mind if there were multiple love interests. Hopefully, as the translator's review mentions, it stops at 3. <<less

This is probably the series that is the hardest to review for me. Objectively speaking, the sheer quality of writing is worth a 5. However, when you consider the overall experience to the reader, it is just a 3. I am gonna split it at 4. This is gonna be a long review split into spoiler (post 100 chapters) and non-spoiler.

TL;DR: This is Mango approved.

Lets first start with some facts: The ML is not a human, and it is very apparent in terms of the definitions of relationships he sticks... more>> to. He comes off as an extremely conservative and patriarchal chain-smoking male lead who is overpowered. His "soft inside-hard outside" nature, which is projected strongly by the author, is nothing but an abusive guy who gives his women Stockholm Syndrome. Under no circumstances can the ML be considered to be a hero, or a positive character. he starts off as an undead skeleton villain who hates humans. He is evil, through and through.

Upon shifting base to Earth, he embarks on a journey to discover what humanity is all about, and the strongest pitch for this series starts here. Opposite to Overlord (JP), the tyrannical male lead is a real tyrant, so his discovery of humanity is a wonderful case study on what defines a human. His character is given tremendous weight, and the growth is slow yet steady. The narration is definitely not trustworthy, but this character is well explored by the author. Tremendous writing.

The world this is set in can best be described as an alternate Earth (China), where some spatial funkiness has allowed multiple reincarnators, cultivators, systems, and such to exist. And exist for a while! This is not just a modern day setting. Overtime, stronger and stronger beings are introduced to have existed since before, and the male lead gets more exciting.

The female leads are pretty. But they are more than that. While the focus is definitely on the male lead, and the Stockholm Syndrome is very real, they still manage to gain significant screen time. This is tagged harem, but it never gets beyond reasonability. They are both strong women who get "conquered" by the male lead. No worries. There is NO r*pe involved. But considering that they are in relationship with an evil being... The ensuing relationship is heartwarming anf romantic, once you set your mindframe to the standards of this series.

Polygamy is everywhere. But the male lead does manage to not lust after every woman around him. The combat is very basic, but it is not what this series is about. There are excellent comedy elements in this series, and a good bit of parody as well. That is what pulls you through when the pacing/morality gets tough.

Spoiler

Spoilers and Negatives:

There is a significant arc where the female leads essentially go through domestic abuse. While this is not a problem by itself, the way in which this is resolved is very lacking. It further amplifies the twisted narration. The human side characters are also not overly negative towards this, and it leaves a very bad taste in your mouth.

While the first child is a bundle of joy, that is it. No further character beyond cuteness, at least for now. The author also seems to be experimenting with different genres, but throughout, this has significantly come off to me as a parody-drama, with good chunks of abusive romance. In addition, there is this general sense of haziness, what with the sudden introduction of established jianghu and all.

[collapse]

The author has good skills with creating long interconnected arcs, and he/she is doing a good case study job of this fascinating character. There is good comedy and parody as well, especially with certain side characters who do manage to get significant screentime.

This is Mango approved, and I am looking forward to where this series will go to. <<less

Just which audience is this directed to exactly?

Romance tip for dummies: if this so ever happens to be a man's fantasy, ladies, put on your heels and run in the opposite direction.

I love this novel, from the adorable and fluffy interactions to the interesting unique story plot, I love it all.

ML is basically an undead lich who has just begin to learn human emotions. And what is better to drive the plot? FL barging into ML’s life!

Although it is harem, and mind you, I usually don’t really like harem unless it’s reverse harem and the story protagonist is female, I still managed to enjoy reading the novel very much.

Like the reviews pointed out, although it is harem, the FLs aren’t just... more>> trophies and each FL has their own unique personality. And I think the reason I didn’t mind the harem was because the story was plotted well by the author, so kudos to the author.

And I want to point at Harry’s review, I read his review and I found it very weird, I don’t think he even properly read the novel because the pretext of the MC smoking was to mock him for always ‘装逼‘(act like he is formidable) after he smoked. I even went back to check on ch1-18 and I really want to know who Harry meant by ‘and they think it’s cool’, cause from the looks of it it just seem like he has issues with smoker.

Also, don’t think I saw other reviews mentioning this, or maybe I missed it, but personally don’t really like it when some of the ‘antagonists’ are not killed and are even given more chapters to talk about them. From the top of my head, I can already think of one that is called Aotian who is not killed even after 400 chapters went by...

Anyhow, still reading it and I’m on chapter 468 right now. For now my rating is 5/5, highly recommend to give this novel a try!

I will update on my review once I completed the novel. <<less

I read the MTL version of this novel

to be honest I really love this novel, overall story is very good, starting from MC and the other personality and character development

except the love story of the MC brother

Spoiler

The woman that MC brother love named Yiyi in raw version

Very tragic, they dearly love each other, but the Author make Yiyi die just like that and make MC brother Marry Gaoyue, Woman that indirectly killed and torture Yiyi mentally and woman taht MC brother dont love

Her last words before dying was that she was still deeply in love with the MC brother

But unfortunately she died, and her death did not have any effect or meaning on the story which was very disappointing

I just cant accept that, If in the end Yiyi and MC's brothers could not be together, the author shouldn't make Yiyi physically and mentally tortured, they never even had time to talk about love, and indirectly the MC killed Yiyi, I think with stories that invite emotions, they could finally together

MC brother even have children from Gaoyue, women he doesnt love, in this novel all characters should be able to get their happiness, and Yiyi no need to die silly.

In the end, I felt like MC Brother lost his happiness

Even though the MC said he owed Yiyi twice because Yiyi saved MC's mother and Yiyi also did not kill GaoYue (the woman who killed Yiyi once and became the wife of MC's brother) but in the end it didn't mean anything, what a joke, instead the MC indirectly killed Yiyi

But what make it more hilarious, MC son marry women who are 99% similar to Yiyi, WTF MC brother can only accept that Yiyi already dead and what was in front of him was the wife of MC son

The author shouldn't make their love story very emotional if in the end they can't be together, if they end up happy and get together this will be one of the novels with the Good Love story.

[collapse]

I think, author hate MC brother or it just for story

Am I the only one who is very disappointed with this part of the story or you have the same opinion <<less

I honestly find this novel really good but there's a few things you have to understand before reading it. I'll also say to start that while this is labeled harem the second female lead is only introduced like 200 chapters in and I assume there'll be more than 2 but I feel they're getting proper screentime and not just shoehorned in.

The MC is overpowered.

For me this is great but for others its a big flaw. I enjoy overpowered MCs a lot and think this one is fairly well done.... more>> Instead of following the MC through power ups and grinding we witness him trying to understand humanity or just not bothering sometimes.

The MC isn't human.

He's basically a monster or demon in human form and thus has no real concept of human emotions. This is a main feature and you have to understand this because it paints all his interactions. He treats people like sh*t because to him they are shit. So all his early interactions with people must be viewed in the lens of him not being human and just not caring to understand humans.

This is mainly a romance.

While it has a bunch of other stuff, pretty cool stuff I might add, at the end of the day this is mainly a romance to me. The romance is slow and actually abusive at times. Remember, the MC is not human and is a monster. So because of that fact he is at first unwilling and uncaring towards the female lead. He never planned to see her again after their first encounter. Part of the charm I think is him slowly changing and learning to understand others emotions but it is a gradual progress so if you can't handle an almost abusive relationship to start that slowly gets better and still isn't exactly great as of chapter 330 then this isn't probably for you. At least he has a reason to be shitty unlike some other romance male leads.

Those 3 points I think are "need to know" about this novel. I think its a pretty fun novel and I really enjoy it. His background is interesting to me as well as the world's background that we eventually get to. It has some typical tropes but I think they're fun and well done. Hope you enjoy it. <<less

If you are looking for an arrogant MC then you do not have to look any further. I literally was shocked at how arrogant this guy was. It's f*cking ridiculous. Other than that it's very good and I have no qualms about it. 4.5/5

It's funny how sometimes you're only able to stumble upon the most interesting hidden gems when you're not intentionally looking for them. OP MC and good character interactions, parody with actual plot development. I'm really looking forward to seeing this completely translated, 5/5 stars.
