An interesting story and satisfying romance which isn't love at first sight, but to really get your mileage out of it you'll have to be at least a little familiar with the 4 classic novels in Chinese history. It wouldn't be wrong to describe this as 400 chapters of the author simping over Dream of the Red Chamber, Journey to the West, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Water Margin (less of the last one, at least as of c200). Characters and scenery are imported to a game setting for... more>> a world that has had zero cultural influence from any myths that we would know and take for granted, so a lot of the humour comes from netizens and other pro teams reacting to the strange skills MC comes up with in an effort to match those novels' stories. <<less

This novel is amazing. I'm not even at the 5% of the novel but I cannot wait to rate this! It's amazing. I'm thrilled and afraid at the same time. This novel set my expectations too high, I'm afraid I would get bored too fast (T﹏T)

I would never regret rating this 5star but I will be back to edit if I'm still reading until the end or stop midway. 90/10 📌

I'm dropping it here not because it's bad or anything, I just couldn't stand mtling it anymore. It's not hard to MTL or anything, but I had been MTLing this and a few other works that when I went to go read a translated work and felt like my three world views got shifted looking at proper grammar and words that were spelled correctly. Anyway, MTL aside, its a pretty good novel.

The delivery of the plot however... it gets quite tedious to be honest, which isn't a bad thing, but... more>> also isn't my thing. I know it's slow burn and all, but I went through over 200 chapters before the pair even confessed, and I haven't even gotten to the first kiss which is apparently a few chapters away from where I am now but I can't be bothered anymore to go read it. The MC is a tad too OP to me but like go off I suppose. Highkey reminds me of God Level Summoner, except the MC this time is a newbie which makes his OPness seem a little strange, and since I didn't really like the end quarter or so of that novel I can only imagine it will be the same with this novel.

I realize that most of my review seems negative so far, but like I really liked the beginning of the novel. There I just don't have high hopes with the latter half. Like the initial world building was hella cool to me, and also lowkey reminded me of YuGiOh which was kind of nostalgic. The cards are all really interesting and I really gotta give kudos to the author for all the details of the card with their abilities and stats because you can tell a lot of thought were put into them which was really interesting. The battles were also pretty cool if not hilarious because of what the cards did. I did also like the characters a lot (aside from the MC, I find him a tad too annoying but that's just personal preference) If this ever gets properly translated I'll almost definitely finish this because I love esports/gaming novels with all my heart and soul but until then I'm going to go read translated works to remember how english works again. <<less

This is getting ridiculous.I don't care if it is slow romance but I can't handle this anymore.

MC is too naive and too powerful. He doesn't take other things into account and paid attention to one thing.

The starting is good but he is just so bad. He sold of cards that has insta kill passive and he be like "This is bad".I'm so done in this novel waste of time.

There is no logic. How can a card with insta kill exist in such games.... That's like breaking the... more>> law of gaming.

So unrealistic.

Those side characters are getting on the nerve and the MC is so so childish.

There are many information skimmed and that he said he is "experienced" but he isn't...

Ugh this novel is like one of those OP naive MC but unlike others where it have those s*upid b*tches with harem tag, this one isn't.

Note:
Is this really yaoi no it's not I keep checking mtl they didn't do it even once I think and why do they call each other brother when they are lovers e.e at least this is shounen-ai why the hell is this yaoi tag I can't even Even change it idk if I'm wrong or correct but whatever.

TL;DR: Pretty plain story so far, with a lot of OP characters but not a lot of action. A lot of chapters for the story to develop though, so I hope it gets better.

The story's premise is interesting and is a different kind of game from most other e-sports stories, but it's a little repetitive. I'm all for OP characters, but it's a little boring if there aren't any unfriendly characters or any obstacles. ... more>>
Spoiler

It's always just that he makes an OP card, makes the card even more OP, gets scouted, refuses to join the club, rinse and repeat.

[collapse]
I'm hoping in the next 150 or so chapters MC starts to enter fights. Reading about him almost flawlessly making cards gets boring after more than twenty chapters of it. A little bit of action would be appreciated, even if he's still way too OP.

And while I've read my fair share of slow burn novels, this is... So slow. Is it even burning? Who knows. A quarter of the way in and the ML (or who I'm assuming the ML is, I have no idea because he's so insignificant so far) barely ever appears. I don't think the ML and MC could even be considered friends at this point. If the next 150 chapters continue at this pace, I honestly think it would've been better to not even create a romance at all.

While I complained about the too-friendly characters earlier, I do think they're nice touches. It's nice to read a nice fluffy story where characters are actually supportive. Not many of the very many side characters have been fleshed out so far, but those that have have very interesting backstories. <<less

From the same author as God Level Summoner, an amazing story. Read this a while ago and am excited to read it translated. Props to the translator for picking up this story. I can only express my sympathy with all of the lengthy history/story background in the card making chapters.

Loved this story. Game is a little confusing, I think it's kind of like a mix of Pokemon and maybe Hearthstone? I don't really know what Hearthstone is except that it uses cards. But basically each card player has their own... more>> set of cards and you can call out your cards and each of them have their own skills, and also have their own assigned races and elements. So probably just Pokemon cards.

The author gets kind of long-winded when introducing the MC making cards bc he always uses a chapter on like two cards by talking a lot of the actual story and history. Unfortunately I'm not that interested in that so I just skipped directly to the card info itself. I admit I'm pretty impressed by the creativity of the cards, props to the author.

ML is actually the sweetest person ever. He really pampers the MC and doesn't ask for anything in return. MC is a cutie, kind of really dense but they do get together without much drama. This author just really likes dragging things on. Like the main story is 400 chapters and they get together at like chapter 266 even though the ML fell in love maybe at like chapter 100 or something. Plus they barely even see each other at all afterward. Can the author not write it so that the MC and ML are in the same team? And actually get to be lovey dovey before the extras? Extras for the MC and ML are actually adorable tho, and MC does tell ML about his coming from a parallel world. Other side couple in the extras though was just painful. This author just always has to put in some extreme dog blood. Omg.

But yeah, really enjoyed this. Wish there was some like world competition like in God Level Summoner, just so the MC and ML could have been together longer. Also this is set in a futuristic world but I couldn't really tell at all besides the holographic game. Would recommend. <<less

MC just makes new cards from Chinese folktale/story from 1HKO to slowly actually building usable cards but like since every card he makes is new he just gets some advice and goes ham to solve all his deck problems and just link skills them all (then again what else woulda you do). The benefits of being a creator --> gets repetitive.

MC was also fine until MC and ML meet face to face which ML basically described him as one of those generic white cut chicken twinks junior and I've kinda... more>> had enough of those kind of MCs so that took quite a downwards turn for me -- personal taste issues <<less

It was fun. Learning about certain chinese legends. Admittedly, there was certain things that were too perfect but it was still fun. I enjoyed the novel. Props for the author. Props for the translator.

The plot is novel, the gameplay is interesting. MC is talented on his own. Even though the card and battle descriptions might seem a lot, the author somehow manages to keep you interested. That's why I ended up MTLing the whole thing.

I'm not certain how to feel about this story. It feels well written. The translators are very good. Especially WangMama who explained the cultural and historical context.

This story is definitely very "game" focused. Something I expect from esports. The card details goes into great detail. The plot doesn't seem to move much. It's literally a play by play. If you're into esports type stories, this one is for you. Otherwise, it's just okay. I think (just as another reviewer said) this would be more enjoyable if I had some type... more>> of background regarding the stories used by the MC to make his cards.

Also, the fact that this takes place in the future doesn't really impact the story much other than give the technology to be immersed in the game. Up until c61, not much of the story takes place outside of the game. <<less

Binge reading this for less than 1 week straight and my eyes are dizzy, but it was worth it.

This author really has a knack for explaining game strategies and all the small scene are enjoyable. Even though, it is still the Same typical transmigration, but the different game and ways of playing really open up your imagination. Thanks to reading this, I now know some important Chinese legends and their relationship.

I honestly love MC and ML. ML is not typical mensao. He is full of bad water but really gentle... more>> to MC. MC Is also really naughty and the combination of two "bad" people is really matching! I agree with all the professional league view! <<less

The concept and the general ideas in the novel are fun and draw you in, but I find that I lost interest in continuing to read this story. When a novel has 400+ chapters you expect a slow progression but that just means that the author needs to be able to keep us interested in the details, and unfortunately that's where the story falls of for me.

I'm used to suspension of disbelief however in these cases I'm less forgiving. Especially at this point where we're concentrating entirely on the game... more>> mechanic and the development of the MC.

Spoiler

I agree with other people who claim it makes no sense that only an elite few recognize the value of 'instant death' cards?! Absolutely no way that any person who plays any game for more than a few weeks won't see how good that is.

The insta death card creation is first said to be limited to small categories, like the flower subset type cards. But then suddenly we get a card that works on all ghosts, and another on all beasts?

Also, the MC goes from being completely destitute to being a millionaire in a week. It just makes all money feel worthless. The novel keeps throwing large sums of money to make MC look impressive but it just makes me ask what was the point of him being poor.

And of course we cannot have the main leads have no real life connection. We'll sprinkle some just to keep things spicy.

[collapse]

It is fun reading about all the characters from Chinese myths and history, and I enjoy his reasoning for the creation of each card. It's fun to think what the MC will do with the few characters I'm familiar with, since he considers some of them worth saving for later creations. I actually want to read what he made of them but just have no interest to read the rest just for that.

I also really like the avatar that the MC chose, in stark contrast to the usual choices in this genre.

I wouldn't say it's a bad read. However if you plan to enjoy this be sure you don't think too much about logic of it all. I'd recommend giving this story a try, see if you like it. <<less

"Genius" MC, creating cool hologram cards for fighting like Yugioh. The MC is actually just copying Chinese mythology which is kind of boring.

Dropped because I don't want to read the stuff about card fighting.

Romance: has met the ML but no romantic feelings between them yet. Tagged as Yaoi though.

This is one of my most favourite novel! In fact I decided to write a review after reading it twice (although I'm bad at writing a review). There are 37 extras but I wish there were more. The plot are well charted, the characters development well designed.

The story initially focused mainly on the game and tournament, and only almost at the end will you get the romance part, but I like it that way because it was enjoyable, especially reading about MC's weird card description.

The MC might look OP, but... more>> I personally doesn't think so. I can say he is simply lucky and talented. He is righteous and optimistic, a character who doesn't give up living his life. He grab all the chances available, and make the most out of them. <<less

Very much a typical OP MC who is brought to another world and brings with them a previous life talent that is coincidentally super helpful in the new circumstances. Not much romance 50 chapters in. MC and ML don't have super-established personalities, and side characters are not very interesting either. I'm reading this more for the business management and eSports aspects than anything right now. I do like the unique folklore card powers element of the novel, so that's fun.

I enjoyed this novel very much, its more focused towards the Star Card game and the eSports League games rather than the romance, however it was still a very enjoyable novel.

The character cards were innovative and funny making the very game intensive chapters easier and much more fun to read.

I am a little sad the romance between the MC and ML wasn't explored very deeply but the relationship between them was still cute and satisfying.

Overall a worthwhile read and a definite 5 stars for me.

Not to sure how to feel about this novel. Nothing unexpired has happened and readers are still in the setup phase of the story. At first I thought this was about competitive card games like magic the gathering our Yu-Gi-Oh. It isn't. It's a summoning mobile game. More annoying is that is that there really hasn't be a well decribe game so I cant guess the rules or what might be good abilities in this game. Sounds s*upid but the main character's golden finger is an instant death effect based... more>> on creature type. Useful but in most games They have pretty standard counters. It might be a while before they have the MC's 1st match. <<less
