This started out really good, actually good. And was one of the very few JPN stories that isn't just complete shit. Started out good, continued to be good, and then he completed the dungeon and it just went downhill. Fast.

Why? Because it's Japanese. Where incompetent boot licking MC's are apparently the only kind of hero. Literally the last few chapters have been nothing but him talking to people and saying over and over how he has no confidence to do anything.

Just complete garbage, don't bother reading because even though the... more>> start is good, you will just be disappointed. <<less

This novel is the perfect example of a train-wreck. I wouldn't say that the beginning was good, but it had potential for a decent story. Its premise can be described as the average Japanese guy who gets to go to a fictional European-ish magical middle ages-ish other-world, which is complete bullsh*t to me since those light novels writers for the most part and seem to get their info out of fairy tale books. They just thought it would be a good setting, they don't really don't do much with the... more>> setting except to try prove how amazing their protagonists are in comparison (because if everyone is s*upid an average guy can feel like a genius). In this novel's defense, it doesn't really play with this factor for the most part. The protagonist is an adult, so there is no bullsh*t for the exception of a few quirks in the beginning, but all this goes to crap later on. The protagonist still suffers from nice guy syndrome, and other quirks of the generic light novel protagonist, which make him bland and easy to self-insert. One of the most outrageous part in this novel is how the MC handles is trauma after dying. This trauma makes no sense in his case, we can see that the trauma is supposed to be a big part of his new identity but it only serves when it is convenient, or when he needs be a coward. This coward part conflicts with his overall personality, since he is supposed to be an adult and has been to several near death fights already. I am not making light of people with trauma, but in this story it is handled poorly more like a gimmick. The story goes to hell after the first labyrinth, especially after he gets to Ienith (or whatever the beast town name is), we are dumped with so many characters all at once that it is impossible to care about any of them. The worst part is that those characters are supposed to become important later on, the story even hints at that, but there are so many introduced this time around at the same time that it is impossible to care. The opposition, intrigue and fights are so lazily written that it is nothing short of being ludicrous. The pacing was acceptable at the beginning, but once again after the trip to Ienith, it becomes way too slow for its own good. The characters are also poorly fleshed out, especially the MC which hurts the story even more. The story suffers from the plot or lack there of, they try to give a plot later on with the dragons but the damage is already done. In conclusion, the story is generic at its roots but offers enough variation to the formula to feel fresh. The MC is a generic protagonist, just a nice guy because he comes from japan and people from japan are supposed to be upstanding people. Almost lets you forget that Japan has one of the biggest s*x industries in the world, make and sell p*rn games and not forget all the sh*t they did in the past. But since the MC is Japanese male in a light novel, I guess the Japan he hails from is also fictional. Excusing all that and the horrible characters portrayed plus Deus ex Machina moments (yes, there a lot but this is a light novel), the story isn't a greedy harem, no real fan service, and no broken powers for the most part (again this is a light novel), which makes it a decent read until the MC goes to Ienith where everything goes to shit. PS: I would give this a rating of 3/5 before the MC goes to Ienith but since I have to judge it as a whole, it gets its deserving 1/5 let the hate come. <<less

Wooden characters, horrible (if not non-existent) world-building, incredibly dull story, it's basically a fantasy world with no imagination and nothing in it but robotic-characters created to praise the MC.

I may be going against the grain here, and it might be too harsh but there you are.

Horrible (Non-existent) World-building. This is the most glaring problem in this story. There is no world-building. NONE. It's no exaggeration. To demonstrate; in the first 3 volumes you can count with your fingers the number of locations visited. And not one of those locations... more>> were even described. In the first volume the first town he visited he didn't even take a stroll through the town. And I doubt we'd get a description even if he had. Instead the story flipped between two nondescript locations. Then he skipped town only to do the same in the next town. The world is so blank it unsettles me. And that "Labyrinth". It had two building blocks; hallway and boss room. And it had, what? 5 types of monsters? That includes the bosses btw. The author is so lazy he can't even be bothered to add critters or unique bosses in the labyrinth, just the generic ghoul, death knight, banshee... were there others? And several volumes were dedicated to that shitty blank labyrinth.

You know what is abundant in this novel? People who will praise the MC. Not the "feels good" kind of praise, it's the "too much it's very awkward now" kind of praise. One time villagers actually skipped town in droves, dropped their work, left their houses unattended in order to go to the MC, who's in a farway town, just to praise him. Why? Because he's AWESOME™. Every move he makes is praised. He's so OP he heals people in his spare time and he gets worshiped because apparently he's the only cleric in the story with a heart. No supply and demand, just about every other cleric would rather lie, cheat and steal for money than earn a fair coin by healing people normally, leaving swathes of unhealed people for the MC to heal. They shouldn't have been called The Church, they're more like The Mob because all they apparently do is extort people.

The only thing that kept me reading this was because I was curious what he did to the leveling system (basically MC couldn't level up for several volumes for some reason). When it was revealed, lo and behold, it was shitty as expected. <<less

Warning: Do not Drink Object X

Honestly... the title and the premise is the most unfortunate thing about this novel. It's interesting coming to age story where character embarks on journey to find his place in the world. Through hard work and rough circumstances, we find that even common soul can become extraordinary.

It has a good starting point for the story, but after that it was extremely dull. The story tries to give jokes at some points but, the jokes are so bad that you won't even be grinning or may not notice it at all. The details regarding training which makes the this story's good point is that he does not become something overpowered immediately. The problem is that even though he keeps training for 4 years without stop, was able to conquer a labyrinth with monsters ranked A and above... more>> by himself, specially trained by an S rank adventurer, possesses cheat items (armor and weapon) and have considerable battle experience from the labyrinth. He can't even win against a s*ave with a very few background with combat. It feels like all those time he spent training is nothing and does not reflect in his movements specially his naivety. As an example he is a salary man, which means he is a considerable adult, but his naivety is on the extreme that you would think that "Is he really an adult from his past life?".

All in all, the development is ridiculously dull. <<less

MC is the the very incarnation of hard work. He, a healer, trains himself physically so that he wouldn't die. MC is kind of dense, but the overall light and comedic atmosphere of the novel compliments it. I normally hate dense MC's, but this guy makes it work. He's so broken (OP), but he doesn't realize it. It has hints of romance here and there so expect some romantic development (eventually). Overall, I really liked this novel.

Take this novel as a way of killing time if you have nothing else to read. The MC is only OP against the "baddies" while the old men (harem?) the Pope and the entire Valkyrie corps use him as they please, that irks me to no end because those people are directing his live as they see fit and to a direction contrary to his own beliefs while he just takes sh*t from everyone.

This is a lighthearted story with a mediocre plot and mediocre worldbuilding. The settings however are very interesting, and the first couple of volumes are quite interesting, as the MC's approach to the story's unfolding is interesting and original.

The first 7-ish volumes are great with a lot of progression. But afterwards it falls off a lot! I definitely recommend reading up to volume 7, but anything from that point on is downhill.

The main character has little to no control over the story's plotline, as in he's being directed a lot... more>> from the side characters. Volume 8 and 9 especially grossed me out, due to some of the side-characters being especially dominative and harmful of the MC while going against his own wishes. This isn't even a dark story, quite the opposite. The MC takes all the abuse send towards him with no repercussions or change in character. The MC is completely whipped into subordination at this point.

I'm mainly a fan of Japanese LNs, and I usually find 95 % of all Chinese LNs absolutely distasteful. But volume 8 and 9 in "Invincible Saint ~Salaryman, the Path I Walk to Survive in This Other World~" definitely gave me a taste of the useless, spineless Japanese MCs with no personal boundaries and lack of character. <<less

The story started out good, but the quality decreased around volumes 5-6. My biggest complaint is that the supporting characters seem to exist only to reinforce how awesome the MC is, to the point where all of them willingly become his s*aves as a badge of honour. Everyone who goes against the MC will immediately come over to his side when he gives them a talking to, at which point the MC will immediately forgive them and everyone is friends again.

Also it seems like the author is using the whole... more>> "this has to be a secret that the readers cannot know for whatever reason" trope way too hard.

For example,

"I was thinking of having XXX become the school's principal."

" XXX? I see. I also believe he/she is qualified."

I feel like the story kind of has lost track of what it wants to be. Character growth seems to have been put on hold, and the MC seems to alternate between being the most clever guy in the room to being tricked/taken advantage of every other chapter. <<less

It is good. MC is careful and obsessed with survival. He is self- restraint. He is not a muscle brain. Actually I want more action but I understand MC.

I love side characters too. They are well written. Actual persons not npcs.

Flow is slow but I enjoyed it.

This was pretty interesting during the first two cities. But when the setting changes to the third city (Ienith), a lot of things changed. It almost seems like an abrupt shift in both the genre and story. Genre-wise, the character progression seems to end as we no longer see the MC growing stronger. Story-wise, it almost seems like the relations with older characters is cut. Even that potential romance partner becomes a dead end once the character leaves for Ienith. It honestly feels like a new story with new characters.

To... more>> make it worse, by the third city the story also loses its sense of purpose. Ienith kind of fits into a larger and very distant goal, but there is very much a lack of an interesting near-term goal. While the story hasn't become terrible, it's certainly lost a lot of its appeal from the earlier chapters. It might be fair to say it's become aimless.

The first two cities were quite enjoyable to read and I'd probably rate them as 4/5 (maybe 5/5 if being generous and ignoring the writing quality). But Ienith seems like it only deserves a 3/5 at most. The Ienith arc begins on chapter 54. I've read to chapter 71. I'm hoping things will change for the better in future chapters, but even browsing ahead 20 chapters, it seems to be more of the same and still in Ienith. Pretty disappointing. <<less

Honestly... the beginning is really interesting. until the church arc, I was completly into it.

But when the Ienith arc begins, this novel becomes unexpectedly boring and even in the dwarf arc, it's not better. I'm waiting for the return to the church while hoping it will become better again because I think it's too bad for such a story to turn this way.

Luciel has an interesting personality (even if all these "please" annoy me... seriously !) and all Luciel's followers and acquaintances aren't so bad... for the most. There's... more>> no (real) harem (this point is really refreshing) and there's some redline that shows us that this novel has a goal (with the dragons and the reincarnated people)... even if all these arcs make me doubt sometimes.

I will just wait while hoping for a better continuation. <<less

If I had to say one word. Its good. Certainly surpassed my expectations.

You can say its a mix of D-GrayMan and Tokyo Ravens but transported to another world. You can tell the Author put a lot of effort into this story. Its a very interesting story.

Character development: Great 4/5 though it could use some work

... more>> Plot: Not bad really. 2/5 it’s just slow

Action: Pretty good 4/5

Romance?: Well he’s been saying he wants to fall in love since chapter 1 but just hasn’t found the right person yet. Honestly I want him to end up with a Girl from Japan. Isn’t it much more interesting if he falls in love with a person who came with him? But maybe that’s asking for too much...

The chances of this being a “Polygamist Harem” is extremely low which makes me happy. Because first of all his goal is to get rid of the corruption of the country and make the Church virtuous and prosperous again. And his goal is to find a girl to “fall in love” its different from “wanting many girls” too right?

As a Reader I can’t help but always be worried for him every chapter. Its because he’s naive but in a good way you know? Honestly I think I am going to be more worried when he meets the others who came with him...

The Author loves to play/troll you sometimes plus with the TLs. Its definitely not good for my heart lol

Ill edit my review again once the Romance and OtherWorlders kicks in. I believe this will change a lot of this story. I hope it doesn’t ruin it and make me lower the rating :/ ughh

I am caught up at chapter 73 <<less

All in all this story is kinda boring to read, the writer put a little too much detail in each part of the story, so much so that you would basically have to read the whole chapter to get the point across. This is a type of story that you would binge read not for the cool action scenes since there is not a lot of that.

While it’s a fun read, the story is kinda... How do I say it... It’s kinda naive. I mean, I’m not saying the author is a child, just that everything is too easy. Main Character manages to mainly meet good people and all the bad guys are incompetent or s*upid (aren’t both the same?). I don’t really feel much tension when he meets bad guys, and his overpowered Object X makes it so that both fights and interrogations are boring. I mean, spending months fighting one super powerful boss cause... more>> the barrels of Object X can repel everything so he can take breaks during the fight is kinda...

Other than that, it’s just fun to read the misunderstandings and the nicknames given to the characters. There’s somewhat of a plot going on, but overall it seems like a generally easy-going story. <<less

I'm not gonna lie I liked this a lot more than I thought I would.

The main character is hard working, doesn't follow his d*ck, and isn't insanely overpowered like many other novels.

Although the pace of the story is quite slow it's methodical and enjoyable.

It's an ok story but you might be better off just binging the manga at this point. As far as I can tell they're pretty close to a 1 to 1 match.

It's weird that the MC is suddenly ok with buying s*aves in volume 5. He seemed pretty disgusted by the concept of s*avery early on but now he barely takes note of the fact that there are limbless children in the s*ave shop that he is shopping at. I mean he could easily buy and heal said children if... more>> he felt like it so it's not like it's something completely out of his hands either. I mean I've read stories where the MC buys s*aves but the lack of an emotional response to that situation despite the MC being generally characterized as a bleeding heart is kind of an issue. <<less

Really liked this story up until about the 40th chapter. Can't exactly explain why, but for some reason when the main character (MC) was in the initial town training and then went to the next area; that was the best part.
Spoiler

After that the story starts to drag and the MC becomes a sort of ambassador of a big nation moving into a smaller nation telling it what to do and how to improve.

[collapse]

A decent attempt at making the MC both under-powered and overpowered at the same time. I also liked the fact the the character list (at least initially) was kept short.

EDIT:
I decided to take another look since I saw that translators were getting close to the 200th chapter. I feel like the author started to take note of how off track he/she had gotten and started to fix the story a little after chapter 100. It still has some issues (later chapters are still less appealing than the beginning chapters), but it seems to be getting better.

2ND EDIT:

About chapter 140-150 the story starts picking up again. My issue with the story is that it becomes very boring in the beast kingdom and I get a strong case of the "whatever's" there. After the MC leaves the story picks up again. Almost like the entire section in the beast kingdom is a series of filler chapters. <<less

Read the light novel. World building? Who cares. Side characters? I don't give a f*ck. But what I absolutely cannot stomach is when the "protagonist" of a story is not a real protagonist. Not a single decision made by himself not a single moment where he would be the one creating the story. No he is just pushed from one corner to another by one of the many super-powerful all-knowing dogsh*t archetypes that so many novels (not just light/webnovels) use. This is a story about a japanese salary man who got transported into a fantasy world. In this world, he finds himself new experiences (especially the fact that he has 'talent' in healing). My impression is that this is a very well written story about a man trying to adjust from one world to another (and from one job, to another). The MC has a somewhat decent character growth (he still, in its core, remain somewhat himself) despite having to face difficult situations that a japanese salaryman would probably not... more>> bother to.

I would recommend to binge read on the story. <<less
