I will not finnish this one. Although this one has an amazing concept and development, deep down, it suffers from the same ailments as most chinese novels from the "farming genre" that slowly but surely, become all about political intrigue, noble families drama and such things. This one was a little more realistic but still.

I enjoyed reading novel with farming tags on it. But this novel was quite a hurdle to like and let me explain why:
Spoiler

1. MC is like 8-10 (30 in previous life) when ML (who is 17 at that time) try to court her. ~Pedo vibes both ways..

2. Racism (I stumble upon few chapter filled with racist remark)

3. MC was portrayed as a hardworking and knowledgeable person but does it like possible in her previous life to hold 10-20 work and so good at it? I mean she was mentioned work as a farmer, cooks, therapist, etc

4.i don't find introducing gambling place (casino, dog fighting, horse racing) was good. MC is driven by greed and failed to recognized what is bad and good.

5. Treating her stone badly but depend on it fully.

6. All male tend to have feelings for her which in my opinion is total bs. She's like 10-13, wth does all male is attracted to a kids ffs.

Overall, I do regret wasting my time on this novel. Not recommended.

I'm very much done. It was an okay read and but I could see the red flags from a mile away.

MC is unrealistic and I'm tired of everyone falling in love with a little girl. Why?

I stopped right where the ML is really introduced and could immediately tell I would not enjoy the rest of the story based on how he acted. The other reviews pretty much confirmed what I expected.

I really hate the author's tendency to foreshadow danger for the MC's family members/friends? And then ignore it for dozens... more>> of chapters.

Spoiler

I get it was important to send the younger brother to school but you couldn't at least try to buy the older brother back? There wasn't even a discussion with the master carpenter. Just them checking in, to see the brother visibly abused and leaving. Then surprise! He was almost beaten to death.

[collapse]

MC is also getting too OP and Mary Sue for me. There is honestly zero difficulties for her after the family drama arc. At least not anything that isn't solved in 5 chapters.

ML sounds like an a**hole and apparently he is one 80% of the time.

I'm cutting my losses here before I read anymore and get frustrated with it. <<less

It was a great read at the beginning, but the story dragged on in the middle of it and I felt I was reading a summary instead of a novel... Barely any conversations and the story jumped so much with most of it being narrations, I really had a hard time imagining the scene inside my head. Author pls.

But the afterstory (around chapter 710) was great and it completely redeemed this novel. The writing style was also back to like what it was at the beginning and it was concluded... more>> nicely. It's just too bad that the author seems to ran out of ideas in the middle of writing this novel (or he/she was rushed to fill in/write those chapters) that the quality of his/her writing fell down heavily; Would have rated this 5/5 but alas, unstable quality of writing gave me some disappointment. <<less

I really liked this untill she was summoned by the current transmigrater emperor. From there it was just a mess.

Loved her money making ideas, creative ideas and her relationship with her family [excluding grandparents and extended family] felt she was to easy on her horrid relatives. But I could understand since respecting elders and family is a huge thing especially then.

But got tired of her constantly being pushed around and she just accepts it. Never been a fan of 'turn the other cheek'. Then the emperor just convoluted things and... more>> made her even more of a limp noodle.

I would definitely recommend reading untill she goes to the capital and is summoned by a bully of emperor. <<less

The storyline is worth 4 stars, but the translation is so excellent I'd give it another star on top. Also, reading on volare novels is free.

This is a slow, relaxing read about farming, cooking, and business. It starts like a farming game app, adds a bit of Little House on the Prairie survival mode in the middle, and moves to business tycoon/romance midway.

The heroine is a 30-year-old experienced worker and farmer who transmigrates into a child in the Ming dynasty, Yu Xiacao. Initially, the family is trapped by filial piety... more>> to stay with some very greedy/selfish relatives and it's painful to read about their hardship. However, with her modern knowledge and a little divine stone, Yu Xiacao slowly helps her very poor family of coastal farmers; preventing tragedies and freeing them from their greedy relatives. Once her family is free, Yu Xiacao uses her limited resources to slowly build a farming and business empire.

Along the way, she meets Generals, Princes, and Emperors. Fortunately, they are all passionate foodies and treat the little girl very well.

The ML is 7 years older than her, and they start as casual friends bickering and teasing each other. By the time he realizes his feelings, he decides to wait several years for her to grow up.

Major, major spoilers:

Spoiler

The current emperor and retired emperor are both transmigrators. I like how the story explains their modern backgrounds and resultant actions in the historical world and it all makes sense. The general as founding emperor overthrows a dynasty, and the shipbuilding engineer as emperor builds a strong improved navy to seek international trade to better the common people.... And now we have Yu Xiacao farmer extraordaire to help prevent famine and increase trade...

The ML is an empath/telepath with trauma, so he developed berserker PSTD that he tries to control by being indifferent and icy. The ML can't read transmigrators, so he can relax and fall in love with Yu Xiacao who has no designs on him (compared to all the two-faced people who have covetous impure thoughts about him). Although Yu Xiacao is young, inside she feels like a noona/ahjumma, so she tries to keep him at a distance for several years to see if he falls for anyone else.

Warning: there's some weird food, girls marrying early in this era, some homophobic comments meant as jokes, a super annoying evil grandma and aunt who get too many lines (I'd suggest you just skip any paragraphs about them as they are awful people), parents who learn to stand up for their families, an older brother who hides his apprenticeship abuse, evil Japanese pirates, but from what I can read on the spoilers forum, everyone good has a happy marriage and a happy ending. As Yu Xiacao's businesses grow, her families spend more time apart running everything well (they help her run the business in other towns, so there is less focus on her family as she grows up, and more focus on the ML. I love her family, though, they are kind and loving and keep her secrets - and they have a happy ending.

[collapse]

If you're looking for a relaxing read about farming and doing business in a historical era, I'd recommend this as long as you skip over the evil grandma and aunt's paragraphs. The author should have cut out 3/4 of their lines. <<less

How can anybody last reading this novel? Reading through chapter 1 is almost impossible for me already, I have to hold myself or I might actually cough blood from the s*upidity of the MC's direct relatives and obnoxiousness of MC's nuclear family.

I would accept if the MC's father is useless, so he doesn't have a back bone. However, he's the friggin' breadwinner of their entire family! To make it worse, his wife is also a coward. Like how the fvck could they be like this? It doesn't make sense at... more>> all. <<less

First thing first the translators are great. Familial names and ties can be very confusing to translate from Chinese.

The slice of life is always a pleasure to read and it's a lot different from other novels where the female lead always find cruel ways to get revenge on her enemies. It is more realistic here but can be infuriating to read sometimes when she need to take into opinions and feelings of her family.

Now onto the bad. Everything is far too smooth sailing for her. If it is not for... more>> the over abundance of good natured characters in the novel. Our female lead would have a horrible end.

Personality conflict - our female lead is a 30 year old woman who had transmigrated into the body of an 8 year old girl. She professed that she is old enough to be her siblings mother. I can understand her acting childish because of doting love from her family but her gradual change from an adult like little girl to a real innocent little girl is just weird.

My biggest issue will always be the Male lead for every Josei novel. Why on Earth their personality and backstory is always typically the same. How could a mental age of a 30 year old woman fall for an immature brat who has not even reached puberty yet? Our male lead is doted on by his parents. Yet still develop a crappy cold personality in order to protect himself. How on Earth you could still have a negative attitude and have to close your heart to the world after being loved by your parents, born wealthy and powerful in a safe environment. Being treated with love by his second brother but only for our Male lead to still steal all their mother's love for himself. I would find the second brother deserving of love more than him being unloved by his parents.

There are more worthy male characters in the novel. But every girl always dream of the "Prince on the white horse."

Author even made a mistake that contradicted the Male lead's backstory in

Highly recommend?

Great transmigration story! The plot and love story progression is so on point. It kept me excited and looked forward to when they finally get married. I’m not really familiar with the food but who cares, as long as I know that it made the protagonist OP and rich ?

I like the heartwarming story and family/romantic love. I also love how the author gave endings to each character (big and small, villains and friends)

I was so hooked that I really looked for a raw version then google translate... more>> just for me to see the ending (which leads to headache and a gallon of nose blood ?)

And now I’m happy because the writer ended it so well, also sad because now I want more. ? Oh writer, I so love you. Thank you translator. Thank you author. ? <<less

The first 50 chapters was a torture but after that you can finally taste the sweetness of the novel. There are many obnoxious characters but this was able to emphasize the goodness of other people. This novel also has an MC who transmigrated in a world where a previous transmigator has already been successful so the story is in a parallel timeline in history wherein life for women is better.

Transmigrate, get rich, separate from the abusive family. Similar setting as "Eldest Sister, Why Haven't You Married Yet" but more inferior.

Everything is so slow like a whole day would consume 10 chapters alone. The author loves sidetracking. In the beginning it's okay but it gets annoying because you can't help but notice how loooooong it is.

They farm, get rich, live more comfortably and then the author doesn't know anymore what to write next but they need the word count to earn money so they add some nonsensical, boring fillers that... more>> does not align anymore with the MC's goal aka the plot. 300 chapters and she's still yet to grow old.

Onto our couple, I can't root for the ML.

Spoiler

Firstly, he's a 16 year old going heart eyes on a 9 year old. I know it's normal to get married early back then but to actually view a 9 year old romantically? And wtf is wrong with that Princess Jing? You are a mother and you're basically pimping another's child to your son who has tendencies to get violent. Bit*h wake up! Not to mention that she loves manipulating her children.

Secondly, if we are to put that thing on the side, I'm not really invested in him or his family. He was introduced on the earlier chapters way too briefly, and integrated into MC's life way too late yet too rushed. He was nowhere from the beginning and then suddenly he's on everyone's face every second. They also have no chemistry what so ever. I've skipped chapters with him in it because, as I've said not invested, not interested.

[collapse]

Spoiler

I kinda like the MC (well at least from where I am now). All of her skills weren't suddenly acquired like that of most transmigration stories. It's from her hard work in her past life.

But damn was she dumb at times. One example would be when she first learned to swim and her stone helped her to breath underwater.

As the story progresses she became more reckless and dumb.

[collapse]

As something to pass time, this would do well but be prepared to be angry at their relatives and be prepared to be frustrated at her spineless parents. <<less

First Review \ ( ̄▽ ̄) /

Here we go~

There are a lot of illogical things in this novel. Well of course, since it is a transmigration novel. ha ha

... more>> All in all, the MVP is the cheat, the multicolored stone. Applause~ \ (^▽^) /

  • MC
Honestly, I have a lot to complain about our MC. She's a spoiled brat which does not make sense because in her past life she is an adult and the eldest of two siblings. She's got no sense of awareness and ignorant of manners, which could have cost her family's well being or her own life. You can't justify it by labeling her as a 'commoner' but excuse me, commoners also know manners. There are many times her rational mind goes offline, which logically could have either killed her or ruin her family.

Spoiler

There was on time ML had mentioned that because of MC's carelessness there were many times he had to use his authority and power to keep her from getting into trouble and prevent her MC's cheat/golden finger from getting found out.

In fact, a villain had indeed found out that she had some ability. Thus, MC got kidnap by said villain. ML told her to not to go out and stay in the house. Alas our MC is s*upid and doesn't listen to ML so she went out and got kidnap. I gotta say, she deserved that lesson. (ง ื▿ ื) ว

What irked me is that everyone else blamed the ML when clearly it was the MC's fault. Did she defend the ML? NO! She let the ML take all the blame. (ノಠ益ಠ) ノ彡┻━┻

[collapse]

I don't find her lovable at all. She's got a lovable, devoted and handsome ML but MC tends to take him for granted. Always staring at other handsome men. I mean sure you can appreciate and admire their looks but the way MC does it is rather inappropriate.

Spoiler

Even until their old age and near death, MC did not tell the whole truth about her past life and secrets to the ML. I've read many romance novels and the key to a great relationship is communication. He is devoted, caring and loving to the MC but I have not seen her do anything that balances their relationship. It's all one sided.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Her attitude of trying to hide from the other transmigrators is annoying too. Although, I get that she fears being used or eliminated by the other transmigrators. But judging from the attitude of the other transmigrators they didn't show any malice. Except that one time the Emperor had the thought of stealing MC's golden finger from her. That time should have been a lesson for the MC but she later forgets it and becomes careless again.

[collapse]

All in all, MC is not lovable. She's childish. There is not a single romantic bone in her. Takes things for granted.

She's tactless and self-satisfied. She knows a this certain side ML doesn't like being called pretty or beautiful but she still mentions it in front of him. Then says, he doesn't mind cuz the one who said he's pretty is her. *rolls eyes*

There was a chance she could have learned etiquette and manners of a noble lady but that thought was rejected by her godmother because she would no longer be 'her' but just another noble lady. *rolls eyes*

  • ML
Lovable. Call me biased but that's just how I view him. Devoted? yes. Strong? yes. Funny? yes. Open minded? yes. Domineering? Well, not all the time but yes.

Spoiler

Has a mental problem? yeap. (¬‿¬)

[collapse]

He's not the best but still one of the good MLs in my record. He wasn't forceful with the MC and waited for her to accept him. There are times he can be childish, jealous and cold. He's not a total ice block in my opinion. He at least has a goofy side.

He gets jealous a lot. However, it's understandable. What man doesn't get jealous when his girlfriend ogles another handsome mean right in front of him. Even the guy who got ogled got uncomfortable.

  • Side Characters
We've got lots but most of them will be forgotten half way through the story or near the end. ha ha

I find her godfather intolerable sometimes. Mainly because he stole the role of a father from the MC's dad in a shameless way. Her biological dad is still there but MC's godfather acts domineeringly and sometimes event blocks the biological dad's roles. It comes to the point where the MC's biological dad got forgotten. Although, her biological dad was not the best dad after all. I mean, in the original plot his family got ruined all because of this tolerance.

  • Side MLs
Quite a few. These side MLs are actually the biggest help to MC at the first part of the story, but then get side tracked in the later parts.

  • Pets
There's also quite a few. Mc's horse is as annoying as her. ha ha

  • Plot
Honestly, the plot is good until we get further into the story. It went from slice of life farming to business tycoon to political stuff. All in all, a cheat is still a cheat. Without it, the MC would have just a regular girl.

Food P*rn? Yeah, sure... That is, if you like bug cuisine.

Spoiler

At some point it went like: Oh, look a locust. *crunch* *crunch*

No, I'm just joking. XD

[collapse]

Spoiler

MC said that tomato (unripe) has poison, gets tackled and then goes angry for being tackled.

Girl, you just straight up announced in front of the emperor in disguise (but she already guessed that this dude is high ranking) with his guards that you just let him eat something poisonous. So, of course, you're gonna get tackled. lmao

[collapse]

Spoiler

Warning: You probably won't like a lot of people in this novel. (>ᴗ•)

dnf. it started good. liked the mc's inner monologues. liked her dynamic with her siblings. her little brother is the cutest in the novel.

once I realized that plot was barely moving by chapter 220, I decided that this wasn't for me. which is a shame bc it started out fun but the author is just too into making us pity the MC instead of fleshing out the story and it's characters.

while it has the comically vicious villains in the granny, auntie and the cousin. which is part of the course... more>> when reading webnovels. their the ones we're supposed to hated and the narrative makes it very clear. I don't have any issues with that. they're annoying and terrible people but what I don't think the author intended me to hate was the father.

how can a good father stand for so many years looking at his children starved and abuse while the other side is treated very well? there's being filial and there's being neglegent to your children.

the MC has become the family provider and it literally took so long for the father to break off the family and love on their own. and even then, he still relents to the umreasonable demands. like, dude! they starved and abused your kids! the f*ck are you talking about being filial? you're just as bad as them at this point.

all he dies is succumb to self pity and calling himself a terrible father and were supposed to feel sorry and have the MC reassure him that his not. blah! he is a terrible father. he may not be an abuser but he saw how the other side of thr family treated them for years...

Spoiler

it took getting his leg almost amputated to got off ties with the other side. not when the not even a preteen yet MC almost died (the original host actually died). not when the MC was thought to be so sick and the granny still refused to give money for treatment.

[collapse]

f*ck off dude! stop your pity party and be a f*cking father. it's not your child's job to protect her siblings. it's yours.

and the MC doesn't even call him out on his bs.

the reason I hate the father more than the villains is bc i, as the reader is supposed to like him. the narrative wants me to like the mc's side of the family. and the fact that I had to read more of him and less of the little brother was just a travesty!

once I realized that plot was barely moving by chapter 220, I decided that this wasn't for me. which is a shame bc it started out fun but the author is just too into making us pity the MC instead of fleshing out the story and it's characters. <<less

I hate that I had to rate this book so poorly. I love slice of life, food related books like this and was thrilled to find something like that after I was done with Back to the Sixties and 回到八零:媳妇有点辣. I'm more than fine with books like this where not much is happening and it's just about living life and eating food.

The problems I had were:

Spoiler

1. The part when they were already living quite well and yet, they seemed to have completely forgotten about the brother??? I mean its one thing if they were still struggling but when they were eating well and making huge profits, the brother was slowly being beaten to death at the carpentry shop.

2. They seemed to be doing nothing much with the money. They were easily the richest people in the village and had literal connections to royalty but they were still running a one copper business?? This leads me to my next point

3. For someone who already had such a gold finger, I didn't think it was necessary to get so much "outside" help. I prefer books where the MC gets to where she is on her own skills and effort.

After deciding to stop reading, I went to read the other spoilers/ reviews, I'm glad I stopped. The grandmother's death being brushed under the mat would have pissed me off so much.

At first the story is really great and interesting, but ever since the ML showed up it became less interesting. I have no problems with older ML, personally I really liked them. But the ML in this novel I just can't seem to like him.

I like how their family sticks together (aside from evil step grandma). Ohh I also love how it mentions the names of the foods that sometimes makes me wonder what it taste like.

I like it, I just don't like the chapters with the ML lol, don't... more>> like him. I prefer the hunter or the schokar neighbor. Either of the two is a great choice why does it have to be the ML? <<less

This book is real good as a slice of life of an average chinese female cook reincarnated in a young poor farm girl a couple hundred years ago. There is a lot of talk about food and farming and the history behind the dishes and the ingredients.

As a foodie story it is an almost perfect story but with the romance it kind of lose a lot of momentum.

The ML in this story is dumb, emotional, rich and powerful. So a classic romance ML which isn't that bad. But the things... more>> that make me hate him for the story is that when he is there the story resolve around how only he can help the MC get what she want. Instead of a well thought struggle to riches it boil down to get one connection that will carry her to the top. Need help? I got people, stores, land, resource, money and even boats to go pick things across the globe.

The romance is weird, the MC doesn't fall in love with the ML instantly but she 'allow him' (can't really fight back since he got power) to isolate her from any other male so it's kind of Stockholm syndrome. After years of that treatment she decide that he love her enough that she will maybe marry him when she is of legal age since he his 7 years older. She said that at like 11 years old so pedo alert. <<less

I just read the spoilers after ch.435 cuz of d story just got really long winded... Sit wasn't particularly going anywhere either...

The story really has all the elements to make it a really good novel but too many issues pop up!! (personality, relationships, ppls reactions, Mary-sue syndrome, low IQ Protag, etc)

Makes the resulting novel too immature (-_-)

I would honestly give it 2 star rating but I'm gonna increase to 3 star for keeping me somewhat interested & sheer effort

There are some odd reviews on here but anyways, let me tell you my personal views.

Story: The story definitely has its quirks and novelty, it is interesting and carves out a space for itself in the heavily saturated market for books like these. Events are unique and take place logically.

Characters: The characters are pretty well written, I see some characters improving, some characters doubling down on their mistakes, some characters backing off where they need to. Characters are dynamic and have emotions. That being said, one awkward thing is that... more>> there are sometimes too many characters and it becomes a little confusing as to who is who since this is a ~800 chapter book. Usually though, good enough context clues are provided so this isnt much of a problem.

World: Well fleshed out. It’s a historical novel so I believe that the world reflects actual historical notes but I dont know Chinese history so Idk. Location, Politics, Factions, and other similar things exists and intersect with each other in dynamic ways.

Romance: Pretty nice, fluffy too. There are next to no hiccups in the relationship and the ML seems to be firmly wrapped around the MC’s finger. That being said, the ML isnt a sheet of white paper and has his own personality and traits that the MC has to deal with. Pretty fluffy with lots of chicken soup for the soul moments and cheesy lines. DO note though that the romance starts after some delay, dont expect it in the first 50 chapters atleast. One point of slight awkwardness, the period being medieval era China, the marriage policies are quite terrible and there are mentions of 15-16 year old getting married etc. Fortunately though, the MC being from the modern era and some other factors related to the modern era have created a push for marriage at the age of 18 which is what the MC and ML honor. This is good, making the slightly awkward moments fleeting and easy to move past.

Gripes/Negatives: Honestly, if you are looking for a book where the MC fights tooth and Nail for every small benefit and climbs out of a mountain of bodies to get to the top... this isnt for you. The antagonists in this novel are pretty weak, most are just bad people without any real power behind them. The MC also has a pretty powerful cheat and the ML is pretty strong to match. Good thing though is that the MC refrains from overusing the cheat and it doesnt feel like too big of an advantage.

Lengthy, this book is pretty lengthy. It can feel like a drag at some occasional points, it isnt conducive to binge reading really. You should split up the binge into lots of 100 chapters maybe? Idk.

Overall though, solid read. Satisfied at the enjoyment to time spent ROI. <<less

My absolute story banes are characters that the main characters can't really cut off for care for but have the ability to piss you off more than a collective of cannon fodders.

Say what you want, but I can't stand the father who willingly let's his family suffer and get bullied while he feeds the mouth of their bullies. I'd rather him just give his family a cold shoulder altogether than pretentiously act like a caring husband and father.

Hurdles like that are really hard for me to endure, so I'll hold... more>> it off for now but there are plentiful of characters, allies or foes, there to annoy the crap out of you. Definitely no feels-good novel. <<less

Enjoyable read. I've started reading it on volarenovels to wuxiaworld. I've remembered anticipating the update every evening (HKT) for 2 years+. It's one of the novels that I didn't drop because of waiting for too long because it's just so good. I won't spoil the story because this novel is a gem and I want everyone to read it themselves.
