People may want to give this novel a try when they see the ridiculous premise, but the synopsis is a bit of a misdirection. People in a traditional cultivator world drinking Sprite and saying "What is this sorcery?" sounds hilarious, but in practice it's mostly about the customers playing existing games from the real world on the cafe computers and talking about them.

Like the novel Terror Infinity, there's a lot of unprofessional borrowing of other intellectual properties. All the more so here, the writing itself is poor and can't stand... more>> on its own two legs, so it talks about Resident Evil 1 for thirty chapters. And then Diablo 2 after that. It may be that you have nostalgic feelings for both of those games that will easily carry you through these chapters. But what about when you don't? When they start to talk about the plot points and characters of The Legend of Sword and Fairy, a Chinese-only game I had never heard of, my eyes were glazing over with disinterest. This was before chapter 100. A bad sign.

There's a line between referencing the games that are being played, and making your novel crossover fan-fiction. I think that line is crossed when the protagonist is rewarded with a Resident Evil T-virus to inject himself with outside of the game. I don't want to read another series where everyone is using magical techniques stolen from some other writer's copyrighted material. Besides, a good novel about managing an internet cafe should either not focus on the games themselves so much, or if it does, it should invent its own games, instead of saying "Remember fighting Andariel?" (Sort of.) "Remember that time when Xiaoyao went to the Devil-Locking Tower?" (No, I never played that.)

There are other signs of weak writing. Characters are introduced far faster than they can become memorable, causing the cast to spiral out of control with a bunch of names I can't remember. By chapter 100 there are about as many characters, and many of their names routinely come up, but only 3 or 4 of these people are even slightly distinct. Each time a new customer is introduced, the whole process is repeated of them reacting to the computers and games, and it feels very formulaic.

World-building is slow and shallow. The presence of the cafe would have been funnier if we knew more about the setting it was contrasting with. But we're not even really told much off the bat about what the limits are in their fantasy world. It also seems to make little sense how anything works; the players are immersed in full VR while also being able to see and chat with the people around them in the cafe at any given moment. They just seem to always be paying attention to the world around them when there's a reason to be, and you're not expected to think about it.

It's a very funny idea for a novel, but there's no lasting appeal. I don't recommend it. <<less

This story consists of an MC in a Xianxia world allowing the people to play virtual reality versions of games in our world. The story consists of people threatening to destroy his shop for having such high prices, then of people trying to buy his computers, then giving in and dragging more people to play with them. Every chapter or so, this cycle repeats. It's funny at first, but it gets redundant and repetitive.

The MC doesn't have much development or show much about him other than he likes playing games.... more>> This is also true for the other characters but with some tr*shy family drama common to Chinese novels thrown in.

As for story development or world background, there really isn't much more than what I've said.

Another weakness this series has is when it makes shocking comments about girls getting easier gaming modes or needing to avoid horror and gore games. This is jarring and throws me out of what I'm reading. I love horror and gore. I've dissected human cadavers and assisted with surgeries on living people. What does being a girl have to do with anything?... Of course, even I have to admit that the female characters in the world of this web novel are even more annoying than the male characters, which is really saying something.

Anyway, although this is entertaining at first, I'm not sure how much longer it can keep my attention. <<less

This is one of the novels that made me laugh and feel a little emotional near the ending (they celebrated the MC's birthday) which just made me realized the story is ending.

This may not be the Strongest system, nor the ones that can make the MC shot up to the skies but for me it is one of the decent novel where the system doesn't ruin the story itself making the novel a joke itself.

If you are;

  • Looking for a serious novel with MC going for immortality
  • A novel with a serious plot and little to non plot holes
  • Or a world that follows a systematic way of rising
This is not for you ~ This is a short-lived (I guess) novel where the MC gets thrown into an ancient cultivation world and was... more>> tasked to open a internet cafe which then follows hilarious, thrilling, and relaxing moments as he sees noobs pure hearted people play the games in our world and sees them react in a various ways that even I began to wonder "This can also be seen this way?".

long story short, a calming novel that doesn't need to be taken so seriously and made to be just for entertainment. <<less

Well I read ahead on the chinese version

so like typical chinese novel, the same thing is going to happen over and over again:
Open Internet Cafe->Local Populace Impressed->Some Power want to ban/disturb the business->Face Slap/Kick Ass->Esport Tournament->Move to new area->Repeat

Most of the LN is just the local populace reacting to the new game/movie and learning skills and other thing from it

... more>> the story is funny to read how the local populace react to modern technology and space tech

but it's not funny when the store get chinese game/movie as those are only the same as the world they are in only more OP, so local populace only see them as immortal/god cultivator and the reaction is not that interesting

things I have problem with-Massive spoiler ahead :

Spoiler
  1. The MC got Infinite Rocket Launcher from Resident Evil in Real Live but only used it once, and never mentioned again in the story.
  2. The MC got Pegassi Osiris (GTA V car) in Real Live, ride it once to pick up Jiang Xiaoyue (his first employee) from school and never mentioned again.
  3. Some of the customer win Real life version of Terran Pirate Ship (Capital Pirate ship?) and Protoss Scout from StarCraft 2 then The East World (Wuxia/chinese world) got invaded by western power (Europe/Western Fantasy) so they go to war but the super advanced ship from starcraft is not even mentioned/used or it's mentioned once and I missed it, but for some reason the local populace's refiner/blacksmith manage to built a giant railgun to shot the invader, oh and for some reason Ghost Sniper Rifle (the other StarCraft 2 Real Life version given as reward from esport) can shot nuke, even though there is no nuke silo given as reward
  4. The MC cultivation is weak, but he can sync with the game char to gain their power, I don't know how human Ezio from Assassin Creed 2 can beat Master Assassin from Western Fantasy (he is in Western World in this Arc)
  5. The new Western Fantasy world is described as World of Warcraft like (human, elf, orc, dwarf, etc), but then the new game is the World of Warcraft game itself, so Elf playing as Elf, human paladin played as human paladin, the orc pick orc like WTF. But hey the Wuxia guys is picking more interesting choice like some guy become undead or Tauren chief

So I tried reading this novel and really tried liking it. Considering it has got such rave reviews on NU. While I enjoyed the novelty of a new type of thematic story initially (first 200 chaps), it quickly became apparent to me that author was just repeating the loop again and again. System gives the MC new objective which once fulfilled will give some rewards at some point the System will give a new objective to set up the shop in a new area in the cultivation world and MC... more>> will set up new shop in a new area and establish his dominance there - Rince -Repeat.

Now I do not have anything against a loop repition. Most of the novels have this formulaic approach where there is some kind of loop in the novel. However, the characters in the novel while feel new and different at first, they start to get boring and frankly downright childish very soon. MC in particular is a sheet of blank paper, like a robot. He barely has any interesting interactions with the customers, there is no personal connections and MC just feels..... well... mechanical, almost robotic.

I really tried to drag to 400 chaps but I am dropping this novel as it seems there is no interesting story or overarching theme in the story at all at this point. I mean at some point story has to be there, there has to be a payoff or a purpose for all this. There does not seem to be one for this.

I don't quite get how there are so many good reviews of this LN on NU, but to each his own I suppose. <<less

Alright for when you're extremely bored is honestly the description I'd give this.

The whole premise is like what if the cultivation realm got access to modern computer games and vr. Basically, you know those reactor channels on YouTube that experience something new for the first time? It's just a whole bunch of that which could be fun and well done but it loses novelty fast.

It's a pretty unique setting in my opinion and I like how the author made it so that the cultivators could grow from the games since... more>> they'd be gaining experience fighting or whatever, but also how does watching some guy flying a sword in vr somehow make it possible to do that in real life when the techniques and everything else are apparently non existent?

Setting aside the disbelief and all though since it is a fantasy webnovel, the reason I'm giving it a 3 instead of a 4/5 is that the first time I read it I got really tired of reading since it was kind of the same thing over and over.

They add characters too often and too quickly to really let you care or even remember most of them. Like I don't remember a single character from the second store he opened or whatever? There's so many people and we don't go back to over half of them or they'll be brought up like 100 chapters later and you won't remember them at that point.

Also with the characters, this is not an harem novel but it kind of has harem vibes of a sort. It reads as a 'the author wants to create a harem but doesn't have the courage or maybe the foolishness to do so.' Like there are so many girls introduced that seem like they're going to somehow end up in a harem but they don't. To be honest, I'm actually okay with that cuz I hate harem style novels, but it does give me strange harem vibes they way the characters are written. There's a sort of way that the women are written which feels not quite misogynistic or disrespectful but sort of like they aren't really people? Idk how to explain exactly. Kind of actually feels like self-insert fanfiction the way it's written somehow because MC is so plain and boring and blank... just the vibes.

There is also the number of references and whatever the author just throws in. The games and pop culture references that were fully Chinese in nature, I obviously didn't understand and could parse through context for the most part, but it got kind of worse and worse with explaining I think. At some point it was like this show that you obviously know- which might be true if I grew up in China, but I haven't so. Additionally like other reviewers have said it's blatant plagiarism/borderline fan fiction.

Also anytime they were trying to show reactions to a movie or to show was so boring. Idk in the beginning it was interesting enough but around the middle to end it gets repetitive and kind of just annoying to read. It's literally an infinite loop system like they have in most cultivation novels but with way less stakes so it looses any semblance of tension.

I did go back later after dropping it though when I was bored and reread it and finished it though so it wasn't too bad I think hence 3 stars.

Overall it's pretty slice of life with a really unique setting at first. I recommend it if you have absolutely no content and are looking for something that requires less brain power or attachment to characters basically. <<less

For those people who grow up in playing games since days of retro such as me. This is the one of the novel in fave list because it gives back memories and nostalgia when I was playing games since my childhood and specially playing games with my friends I still remember when we played first played CS it was like awesome, ,.. Then playing games such as resident evil games during sleepover specially those days there are no internet (idk if there are already internet in 90's) no walkthrough just... more>> blindly grasping for clues and solving puzzle then being scolded by the parents because we're playing too much that it's already dawn. I know there are plot holes in this novel or just being rush I doesn't matter for me this novel represents the feelings of a gamers thats totally love the game their playing that they having empathy to the story (well I literally cried to some games the are very saddening) <<less

I tried to enjoy this novel because I have some connection with the games mentioned in this novel. However, the author really butchered his representation of the games. He basically had all the sources in his hands like visuals and original works but he couldn't even describe it in words correctly. He just assumed that you as the reader knows what he is talking about. He also likes to introduce characters mid-chapter without saying where the scene is happening at (cause of different realms). You'd only find out until MC... more>> has to take care of the baddies. Also this system is f*cking dumb. Basically, MC never really depends on what he learned for himself to save his shop. The shop just provides him items that make him win and then his customers are just d*ck riding him as a grandmaster and at the same time berating him. And then there's the inherent name dropping of in-game or series character names and assuming you already know the plot of those and the author just saying a sentence that could be a whole episode by itself and it's like 100 sentences of this type and you don't know what the fck is going on. This novel is kind of ret*rded <<less

Read this to the end.

This novel is fantastic till the end.

The epilogue is bittersweet, but the final battle is very disappointing.

It's also weird how the world has cultivators and there is immortality in the novel, but the MC never cultivates nor does he want to cultivate.

The little demon who he traps is also forgotten...

When I first read this I get hook immediately. Building a shop in another world and seeing people being ignorant asking "what the f**k is computer?!", just imagine the homo erectus' reactions when they discovered the fire- jumping like monkeys, it's quite amusing.

This novel had real good concept, but the plot is so generic. I think the author knows that he can't write a decent novel that revolves on the 'plot' and got this idea 'cause an internet cafe doesn't really need a plot, just use a hell lot of... more>> reference from games/tvseries/movies etc and everything will work out.

First 200 chapter is still good I think. But when the author starts throwing some 'plot' the inept writing starts showing. (The plots on this novels are like 'Fillers' you will find on other novels)

Story : 1/5

World Building : 4.5/5

Characters :

    • 2.5/5 for MC.
    • 3/5 for support character.
    • 1/5 for the enemies.
Enjoyment : 4/5

System : 2/5

My only problem is the plot and those enemy who's acting 'manipulative' and all but in reality they're just nothing.

So far I still like it because of the 'concept' of the novel, I think the good concept is enough for readers to ignore the plot and enough for the novel to get high scores :) <<less

It's a good read. Not the best, but I can confidently say we have all read worse novels.

  • This novel is a solid 4.1
Here's why:

Although it sounds at times you are being regurgitated an specific X game walkthrough, and the novelty in which it is narrated is not exciting, if you are a gamer; you will like it.

... more>> If you read previously Gourmet of Another World - or any other related 'system in cultivator world' kind of novel, this is for you.

It's an intriguing take, but a somehow overused genre.

If you want my honest score without filters, sure, is 2.6

I gave this novel a 4.1 on the hopes it gets better. (And because I'm giving high scores as of late to novels that are not 'Nationalist' *cough* 89% of novels on QI* cough* <<less

It's not bad. It's not a Xian xia action, despite its genre. It is, first and foremost, a slice of life about a bunch of gamers in a cultivation world.

The world itself isn't too interesting. But that doesn't matter. First and foremost, despite the action tag, this is a slice of life novel about a bunch of gamers from an isekai. Everything else is secondary.

This isn't an unadulterated ripping off or stealing of intellectual property (despite what other reviewers might say). Its a tribute to the games. That's why the... more>> author almost always pays tribute to the developers of those games as well, and never claims that the MC makes them. Unlike most chinese MC's who basically steal intellectual property and claim it as theirs, this is one of the few MC's that never claim it as their own creation, and always give credit to the companies that made it. Why? Because he at least has some basic integrity.

It's basically a tribute to and exaltation of video games using a Xian Xia template. If you don't really like video games, then its more or less not for you. If you do like video games, and like people talking about how good the classic video games (and some modern ones), that you like as well, give this a go.

Just don't expect too much from the plot and characters. They aren't the actual focus of the series. Even the MC is a side character. The games are the real MC. It's a slice of life about video games. As long as you like games and the daily lives of gamers, then its worth a read. <<less

I am surprised how good it is. Based on the first few chapters I thought it was tr*sh.

+ Very light entertainment

+ In-depth research of all kinds of games

+ Interesting characters

+ Good system

~ No explanation of cultivation

- Promotes smoking

- The usual racism/nationalism against westerners

This is a lighthearted read that doesn't involve thinking too deeply about stuff, but instead invokes nostalgia. I definitely want to play Diablo again.

Unfortunately, the novel lacks depth. I bulk-read it, and after the third big arc it really is a grind.

Enjoyable novel.. Nice relaxing read.. A good ending, didn't feel as rushed as some others stated.

The only disappointment, as with most Chinese webnovels, is that interaction between MC and people around him could be better. By the end of it, they all appear 1D.

It could have been much better if there was a little more life in the characters instead of being decorations.

A ridiculous premise that makes for a surprisingly good story.

PROS
- The worldbuilding is very well done and togheter with the side characters easily carries the story.
- The author is knowledgeable about the games and stories he talks about, I didn't know all of them but I couldn't find anything wrong regarding those I knew.
- The side characters that get the spotlight and keep being relevant like Su Tianji, Ning Bi, Mingxue and Xiaoyue, the knights and the elves are either interesting or likeable, all of them have... more>> their memorable and kinda unforgettable moments.
- The comedy is on point for the entire duration of the story, seeing daoist immortals play rhythm games like "drunken immortals stepping on clouds" is always funny.

CONS
- Romance is nonexistent, the MC ends up with a girl but we have no way to know who she is.
- WAY too many side characters makes for confusing situations in the beginning, most of them while one dimensional are also likeable so you cannot help but be sorry for those that get a bit more background but end being forgotten with the progession of the story, a good example is Rosen Rain (the strongest mortal character or close to that), she gets introduced and becomes more and more important in the central part of the story, then disappears. She's not the only one but she's the most disappointing.
- The MC feels robotic and doesn't interact nearly enough with the rest of the characters, the only ones that can say to have a human-like relationship with him are Tianji, Mingxue and Xiaoyue.
- Really basic story and xianxia-like loops (gets better in the second half tho).
- The final battle could have been 200 chapters longer tbh, way too short considering the magnitude of the fight.
- This story reads like a fanfiction at times and some chapter are literally summaries of other games or reflections on the message they express, that might turn some people off.

You might ask why the 4 stars with that many cons and the truth is that while this is an extremely flawed story written by a kinda unprofessional author I loved it nonetheless.
Call it guilty pleasure but I loved the characters in their simplicity and the world they lived in, I laughed, cryed and rooted for them and I think that that is what is important in a story as simple and straightforward as this.

I can only suggest you give this story a try if you're uncertain. <<less

not bad, an odd mixture of slice-of-life, a LOT of gaming, and sparse moments of RW action. Sometimes this was entertaining and sometimes I was bored enough to skip chapters.

the author goes on at length about the plot of each game, movie, and tv series, so if you are one of the few people that haven't played those games, or haven't watched the movies/ shows, be prepared for major spoilers. the inclusion of guns and other WMD felt jarring and intrusive, but most guys I know would think it's cool... more>> so I suppose that all depends on perspective. The cultivation levels are never explained but most of the MC powers come from the games and shows anyways so I guess it doesn't matter. Also there's the usual smattering of racism which I had hoped wouldn't show up, given they are in fantasy world. other than that, it's a repetitive story but decent enough if you can turn your brain off and enjoy it for the piece of light entertainment it is. <<less

This is basically a strange 'best of all worlds' mash-up of 'VR worlds', 'having a System', 'Xanxia', and doing a bunch of IP raiding with 'videogame powers' (just to start). It starts out as 'half' fan-fiction (but actually 'not exactly' as the story focus isn't so much on on the IP contents themselves- though it's still pretty much theft), later on it pretty much becomes a full on, multi-source hodge-podge of fan-fiction extract, homages, and all-out rips.

Well, that aside, 'Is it good?'

Mostly. It starts off pretty weak, but quickly gets... more>> to it's 'this is the thing we're doing here' pace, and builds a pretty conventional 'weak to strong' antisocial protag with some odd-ish 'kingdom building' on the side- type story.

To be fair, the protag is only half antisocial, and the comedy vibe helps to balance what would be an otherwise ridiculous character.

Anyway, halfway through the author starts to coast on his built-up efforts, and fully digs into the 'lemme us other IPs more fully' mode, thus lowering the originality-- pretty much just 'doing the framework' needed to do multiple IP exploits and not a ton more.

It's not bad, but it looked like it would be better.

Now, warning in advance, the ending is sudden and somewhat disappointing. I'd drop it a half point (if I could) - but I can't, so I'm rating it at 2 stars (as warning) though it's mostly around 3 stars

(but barely).

The Good:

  • The half-antisocial, half-comedy protag more or less works
  • The seemingly slap-together world-building actually passes for interesting
  • Some characters are interesting and get some development.
  • The comedy (when utilized) isn't bad.
The BAD:

  • Ip theft- tons of it. in context it's kindof explainable- but overall it's 'magical' and lazy.
    Spoiler

Think of a racing story where the author uses brand-name parts like 'Goodyear tires' (or whatever) to derive the protags cars performance, etc. We wouldn't think twice really- so in that sense, it's kinda reasonable to do something similar in a relative context. I'm not excusing it- just saying it's different than hijacking the whole Naruto world or some such for a story.

    [collapse]
  • Villains are pretty much 'cliche wuxia' baddies.
  • Lots of characters. Normally Chinese names aren't too much of a problem for me- but with location changes, new faction adds, and a bunch of game characters you're supposed to know... I lost track of more than a few characters.
  • The plotting isn't bad- and at times is pretty reasonable/good- but can also be pretty inconsistent- especially when it comes to system tasks, where the MC gets them, looks like 'he's on it', then suddenly focuses on other things. This gets worse in the second half, where plot progression pretty much turns into 'about time I activated this'...
  • 'Only the MC can solve this' is mostly true in this world unless the author wants to make a specific show of someone else being cool for a minute.
The Different:

  • Somehow cramming so many themes into one story, constantly stealing multiple IPs content, and actually having the story not suck.
Overall, it's worth a look if you're bored. It's not 'awesome', but as long as you don't expect too much, you might be pleasantly surprised <<less

The story revolves around a person that gets a Internet cafe in a cultivation world where players can learn the skills of the games.

It is a bit repetitive and the enemies are generic, but it is lighthearted and fun.

If you are someone who really likes games (as myself) you should try reading this novel.

However if you are looking for something with a better story and development, you should skip this novel (considering only this aspects, I would rate this novel 2 stars).
