Lin ShuYi was sentenced to death by the traitorous Emperor for a treasonous crime he didn’t commit. Before drinking the poisonous wine on the execution ground, he stared up at the snow falling from the sky and said to himself, “This is for the best, I will be a cook in my next life! I miss roast chicken…”

Then he woke up inside a body of a teenager in an era completely different from his past life. After that, he meets a nice old man who owns a small restaurant. Completely lost in this new modern world, he found that the only thing that would never change, no matter where one lived, was cooking.

Thus he picked up the promise he made to himself, to be a chef in this life.

I'll start by saying that I don't necessarily think the rating for this novel should be so low. On the other hand, I do completely understand why it would be so low.

While the novel began pretty interestingly, it quickly went down hill. First of all, I love fluff as much as the next person, but even with fluffy stories, there needs to be something to keep your interest as well as knowing when to end things.

This author lacked the know how in both areas. Initially, it was interesting going through... more>> the new world with the MC and tasting foods he'd never had or seeing things he never did, but then it became a melodrama. Which is fine, I'll admit that the drama with old man yang's family did keep me interested, but then as soon as that ended, everything just sort of began free falling.

For one thing, the relationship between the MC and ML went from 0-100 in literally a span of a month. That bothered me. No matter how cliche I find the constant trope of "together forever" in most romance novels. There's at least some sort of beginning middle and end that follows most of them.

Meanwhile, this novel went from "hmm, why does my heart skip a beat when he smiles at me" to "wow, let's adopt!" almost immediately. Thats illogical even in the more illogical novels.

MC thought ML like his bff and didn't feel even a twinge of jealousy, but the moment it's resolved to the time they got together, there wasn't even a month. The from the moment they got together to getting engaged to adopting kids, a literal month and a half went by.

Meanwhile, the entire time MC is at most 20 by now. None of this makes sense and it irks my nerves. Fine, I could ignore it a little, I love reading novels with childcare simply because it's rare, so I was able to persevere because I love it.

The result was that the relationship between the adopted kid that already had multiple traumatic experiences some of which was with being adopted and given back, only for him to immediately "love" his new parents.. Kids are not that easily attached even if they are fine with strangers.

On another note, one my biggest pet peeve in BL's is that authors have to make everyone gay. I feel like I need to preference this by saying I am a pan non-binary person that loves when things are gay.. That being the case, I hate when in BL's people are "made" gay just for the sake of it. It's never bi it's never pan it's always "made" gay. I could really keep going but I won't because im annoying myself more.

Anyway, after all that happened, the entire time I just kept wondering when it would be over. Checking how much longer until it's done. It got so boring and repetitive. At one point towards the end I literally only contained to watch it for the sheer fact that I wanted to know if MC would ever tell ML about his past. When I finally got to the chapter that happened, it was so damn underwhelming and I pretty much rage quit immediately so here I am. 117 chapters later, underwhelmed by the sheer boredom that has overtaken me when all I wanted was a soft fluff novel that knows when enough is enough.

i beg, don't waste your time. <<less

It's an okay read. I actually enjoy reading this novel since it's full of fluff. There's no deeper plot. At least, that is focus on the main character himself. The plot was centered on a side-character, who later on become an important part of the MC's life.

The only good thing about this is that the author didn't stretch it out so, the readers can still enjoy it. Right after this arc, is just the journey of the two leads in the pursuit of love. Nothing heavy drama that is going... more>> on. It's just full of laugh.

Pretty much my review is full of positive words since I admit I enjoyed it a lot; even though I suffered from the constant mentions of food. I just get hungrier and hungrier in every chapter. This is a novel that can be enjoyed by those readers who enjoys gourmet themed novels.

Just a heads-up for the other readers, right after the two main leads had properly accepted their feelings towards each other, everything will start to get fast paced. As if, the novel was on fast forwards. Don't worry though. If your the type of reader who enjoys reading a fluff novel. I believe you will ultimately love this novel.

Just don't get yourself intimidated by some of the negative reviews in here. Since some of them are really looking forward to a truly plot-driven novel so basically, this isn't their cup of tea.

Just give this novel a shot! You won't hate this novel.

I'm giving you a good spoiler:

Spoiler

The couple will have kids. So, I bet you'll love their family.

There wasn't really much going on in this novel. The MC and ML lead a pretty normal life aside from the fact that the MC has been reincarnated from the past.

There wasn't too much of a plot going on. I got bored half way through but forced myself to read through to the end.

Sweet, cute, adorable.. But that's all..

I really liked the story at first.. But it was too rashed and got boring..

The press conference was too fast.. Even the adoption didn't feel realistic at all..

... more>> The children were cute alright.. But MC and ML just confirmed their relationship a few months ago.. Lin ShuYi had never been in love before.. None of them had any thought about child before.. Now they just thought suddenly and took two children in.. Why the rush ???

Tbh the story should've just ended after renovation of the restaurant with big bro Shen's love story as the side stories..

I almost dropped it but persevered to read about Shen Yan.. But that just took two or so chapters.. And they also adopted at a lightning speed..

Can't see much character development.. Skimmed over last 40 chapters.. <<less

Started off wonderful but then it just went of the rails with family members, babies and marriage. Everything was dialed to 11 and happening all at once in fast forward mode. Marriage was bought up out of nowhere and that was the beginning of the end.

Overall, it's definitely not bad, but it's also not that good. The food sounds delicious, and the first arc of the story is decent but in the second half, it feels quite unrealistic which can trigger you out of the story.

If you're here for the food, cooking and chef aspect, then it is a very well written piece of work that can make you actually salivate ε=ε= (ノ≧∇≦) ノ

However, if I were you, do not put too much expectation into the plot-line or world development as it can truly be described with one word - 'ordinary'. Depending on the readers of course, it could potentially be a very favorable and well-written plot-line from their perspective, but from the majority of people who's experienced in reading a wide range of novels,... more>> then in all honesty the plot is very plain, characters are pretty flat and a large aspect of the novel being pretty much cliche.

Though I say that, it's worth giving a try as its an enjoyable relaxing light read that can perhaps relieve your stress built up from daily life. <<less

It's good! Fyi, in my opinion it's better to read Shen Yan love story after he got together again with Jiang Cheng. Shen Yan and Jiang Cheng love story start at 199 until 124, it's fine to skip few chapters then go back again since it's not that confusing.

This novel is just good. I don't like "slice of life" at all but this is too warm and relaxing. I hate story's about cooking because this boring and long but this story doesn't focus on this thing. This is simple to read and novel touched me. Also I like Ml's family. They very kind people and in their home always very cozy. Love ML and MC really sweet.I like how their relationships are slowly developing and they even create their own family with nice children. I was really happy... more>> when they have married.I think this novel just for people who want rest of drama and action in other stories so I love them very much. <<less

I'm not sure what to feel about it. The beginning of it was really good, but it somehow got dragged on until it felt really boring and I decided to drop it. The title suits the story perfectly, a reverse transmigration. But I couldn't help but feel that there were a lot of unsolved mysteries that the author refused to mention; for example the MC's teacher, his chef friend, and those people who'd caused his death. Through out the novel I remember I kept on hoping for the author to... more>> touch that topic a bit deeper, but it didn't happen even until the last 20ish chapters.

Anyway there isn't a lot to expect from this novel. There's fluff and his journey as a chef, but the romance wasn't that profound and even seem forced. They even adopted kids. I find it weird when books force the characters to adopt children out of nowhere just to show that gay couples are capable of being a happy family (unless they really want kids or something... idk..)

For me this book is more or less a 3.5, but I still wanna appreciate the translators <3 <<less

This is a sweet, enjoyable, fluffy story that is mostly just about finding love and acceptance. It's heartwarming and is good to read when you need a little pick-me-up for your mood.

Admittedly, the story does start to drag at the end. There was some really interesting conflict with the side characters at the beginning, but after that it was just pure fluff and it kind of seemed like the author was just trying to drag out the story. BUT, it is still worth reading and I won't take a star... more>> away because I think people should give it a chance.

However, I did have one pretty big issue with the story...

Spoiler

Lin Shuyi didn't really seem to have emotions? I mean he transmigrated into another world after being executed in his past life, but it seemed to have absolutely no effect on him. We never got to see him process his emotions, or process the fact that he had been mu*dered in his past life, or that he would never see his teacher who also raised him, or his best friend who taught him to cook. Oddly enough, Lin Shuyi was the least interesting character. I mean, we even saw the stone faced Brother Shen break down and cry, and get angry, and be heartbroken because of Jiang Chang. Brother Shen was written as a cold, calculated character, so I'm not sure why we got to see him express his raging emotions in his extras, while Lin Shuyi spent most the novel never expressing any deep emotion at all.

I was a little frustrated with how Lin Shuyi was written. I feel like the author didn't really do him justice. He could have been such a deep, and interesting character. Yet, he really had no feelings at all until Shen Fu came along.

Now I get it why you shouldn't always believe reviews or opinions from others. Just read it first, make your own judgement.

This story was fun amd interesting enough for me to read it till the end. Maybe there're not enough correlation with cooking halfway to end of novel, but honestly I prefer this way, because it's enough for the first half and it'll get boring and repetitive.

Keep it in mind that from MC viewpoint he already said he just like cooking but not to opened or operated bussiness.... more>> And he did cooked for his family, and his life purposed already fullfiled I think.

MC was not some usual 18 teenager who didn't know his purpose or what he want in life, he nearly 30s or so in his last life, so I really like he didn't take his time to enjoy his life to the fullest and adopt kids.

Really, this novel was satisfying for me. <<less

Writing style: 1/1

Character Development:1/1 - MC has a carefree mindset so adapt well with the new world, new life, and new love. The relationship development is fast pace (before I knew it they are adopting children!) with plenty of fluffy moments. Even though the ML is possessive, the MC doesn't care about people so it balance out.

Plot: 1/2 - Lighthearted novel with good relationship development. Interesting concept with a focus on food since that is what the MC is good at. However, as the story developed I felt like the... more>> food description was throw in because it's part of the theme...

Personal interest: 0/1 - about halfway I started to loose interest and skimmed through the rest just to finish it. <<less

It started of well. Fluffy uncomplicated characters/story. The translators did a great job, they added pics of the foods that made my mouth water... and then after chapter 70 I could not follow the plot. It felt more like the author was checking of some list rather than letting the characters mature/evolve naturally. Start dating; check. Get “engaged”, check (and I’m using the term engaged loosely, the family said get married before they even officially started dating and it was like okay). Decide on kids; check. Have a kid (at... more>> his point, they have neither dated for a year nor have gotten married mind you).... Let me remind everyone that the MC is actually 18/19 years old.

I reached chapter 88 and I could not read the next paragraph let alone the next chapter. <<less

Actually want to give it 3.5

Great translation.

Its a great story, AT THE BEGINNING.

I mean, from (MC) his cute naivety, the mouth watering foods, the interaction between the old man who kinda adopted him and the neighbors, how hardworking he is, the adorable kids, the foodie people in the story, IT WAS GREAT. Ive given it 2.5 for this.

Until he chose to be lovers with ML (it was from 0 to 100 real quick), I dont mind them lovey dovey but it wouldve been better if there was a bit of a build up. As the previous reviews says, ITS TOO QUICK that its mind boggling. I loveeee the interactions with the kids, but come on, you didnt even love him a few days ago but now youre adopting? REALLY? (Nothing against the kids moment, its adorable. My only consolation on this). Then he initially wants to support and take care of the old man but you kinda left him. (Plus, if im not mistaken you kinda made him work on the restaurant that was supposedly yours now). Ugh. Then you LEFT being the CHEF that you want to be. Im just saying, you kinda beat the purpose and foundation of this novel.

This story is so fluffy and sweet, totally zero drama. Like other reviewers said, the change in focus from building the restaurant to childcare is a bit too abrupt. It's not bad, I read this for the sweetness and it totally delivers, what with the super cute sons. But it'd flow much better if the author give the MC and ML a bit of time before adopting ^^;;

I agree with the other reviewers that the plot diverged off course and lost its footing. Still, if you enjoy light-hearted BL, it's a nice, easy read. There is also one vinegar scene that actually made me LOL, and for that alone I like this book (wish I'd bookmarked that chapter).

This is a very good lighthearted story save for some drama in the mid-beginning ish with the Yang family (it really hit my weak spot and I teared up not gonna lie). I love the couple, the gong isn’t the generic dom type and is very dotingly sweet if quite cheeky.

There are some problems (hence the 4/5 stars) mainly to do with how fast the relationship goes, pretty much from finally confessing to publicly coming out. To be fair, the situation does sort of call for it and it’s not... more>> their fault, plus you can consider it a bit comedic too so it’s easy to let that go. But what I’m not that fond of is how soon they adopt? Like, I’m fairly sure it’s been less than a year, come on. And one of the main points of the story- the restaurant they rebuilt- seems to be put on the back burner even though they’ve only opened for like, a month or two. I mean, dude, the kids are cute af but this is no time in your life to adopt them.

Still, this story is great, it’s starting to drag a little right now but overall it’s sweet, the build up is good, the characters are all pretty rounded and funny - except the Yang family (not the grandpa) who suucks lol. I do recommend this for a read especially if you want a fluffy relationship with a little dash of food to make it even yummier :) <<less

It could be because I'm reading this story in English, but there is nothing in the MC that reminds me of a government worker from ancient times. He immediately acts more like a brat with the ML when they meet. It's why I dropped it. Plus, I don't find the relationship between the unrelated widowed old guy and the MC very endearing, because of the little voice in my head that considers every ship possible. So yeah, I just don't like the MC. If he either opened up his own... more>> shop from the get go, acted less like a bratty 12 yo, or any resistance or goals to him transmigrating, I would be interested. <<less
