Started 4 star,

protagonist from different world with knowledge of future with experience able to control impulses not being s*upid, planning everything

The girls at start where very annoying but learned and developed

... more>> And protagonist is smart keeps his allys he has built turning them into a mercenary group for development

However negatives are numerous translator wont stop putting sh*t in story of his opinions etc (put them at end tp prevent story stopping)

Author at start tries to combine game, medeval into it which works but then decides to not only have the game element but have a yugioh game element thrown in which ruins the entire f*cking thing

(He receives cards which he didnt know much about (thats fine) but then attepets to set up rules around them to make them more limited in ability which is to confusing for the rules)

KEEPS TELLING YOU LOCATIONS BUT DOESNT PROVIDE MAP IN f*ckING ENGLISH <<less

The story was great at the beginning but gets really boring in the later parts, especially after he was transported to the "Nine Phoenix" country. The author also has a bad habit of dropping long paragraphs of info dumps during scenes throughout the entire story. The main character would be talking about something and then the author would suddenly spend half the chapter or more on a tedious explanation on a certain topic and the character's own inferences. It wasn't that bad in the beginning but gets more noticeable as... more>> the story goes on. <<less

My favourite web novel. Here's why,

The story flows by itself with characters having to make tough choices making it a gripping story.

Smart editing with attention to the details.

Super cool realistic (within the world building) battles.

Let's see. I generally dislike the MC who gets the "absolute knowledge" + "absolute fighting skills" from the get go and the only difficulty that comes for him is that the enemies are above his power rank or simply by numbers. This doesn't change here as MC is the usual know all and I am super genius veteran look at me type of guy. Still because the beginning arc has MC really under-leveled and the difficulties he faces are of extreme level, the entire storyline of the first arc is... more>> quite engaging and interesting.

Sadly eventually that arc ends and we have the rather OP MC finally having a breather and being able to start his grand plan to be super OP... in next arcs (at least those that I read) there are still battles, there is still high level of difficulty but the story itself is extremely simple and quite repetitive.

Worse of all however is without the doubt the power system. While from the get go, it's already quite shaky, there is clearly too many random power ups, too many plot convenience, too many random new super enemies appearing and the doom of it all that completely breaks the power system is MC's Magic the gathering cards that only he can use.

In any case, I would still rank this story highly amongst those that I read on this website... at the very least as far as I managed to get. I can't say much as to what happens after chapter that I reached but the fact that I don't really feel like finding out and don't really care about continuation speaks for itself. <<less

Overall not too bad, at least so far, though it does get a bit convoluted when
Spoiler

it introduces the magic the gathering card game system into it.

However, people should be aware the translator decided he's knows better than the author and has heavily edited the novel, removing parts he feels unnecessary and also adding parts that aren't in the original. So you will not get to read the novel as it was intended/written by the author.

Pacing 4.5 / 5

Story is good, doesn't jump too fast and doesn't drag.

Creativity 4.5 / 5

Very interesting events. From survival of war to founding new country, good change of setting.

Characters 5 / 5

Many interesting side characters, antagonist and protagonist.

Translation 4 / 5

Good translation speed, easy to understand translation. However, sometimes has grammar error in each chapter, like sometimes word left out or wrong word used. But overall is great. I noticed translator already reached 10% (158 of 1527 Chapters), very impressive! Keep up good works!

A quick review in notes:

The protagonist is actually heroic and likable, which should not be such a rare thing, but somehow most authors just keep missing the mark. The female lead (Romaine) is annoying and mostly pointless with zero chemistry with him, no matter how much the author insists on telling us they like each other. Their interactions are generally closer to an older brother trying to reign in his bratty little sister. The other female characters (Freya, Amandina) are way more interesting and fun, and so are the male... more>> side cast. Most of the characters in general are written well in this novel.

The addition of the Planeswalkers and the MTG-style cards are a little clumsy (at one point a character literally pops in during an intense battle-scene and stops time just to give a several chapters long lecture on them), but they add an interesting twist to the VRMMO base mechanics of the world.

One flaw I can think off the top of my head is that at this point there are just way too many evil organizations in the shadows to keep track of. We have the Unifying Guild, Origin (who might or might not be the same thing), Madara, the Three Shepherds, the disciples, et all.

Overall it is a very enjoyable read, heartily recommended. <<less

This is one the best "vrrmo" novels out there right now. Reminds me a lot of tsukoyote new saga and Breakers (pretty good KR novel). Basically the MC transmigrated from playing the VR game to the actual game world while he was playing, but he transmigrated to the past so now he's using his knowledge of game events, his game character and his accumulated skills as a gamer to prevent tragedy from happening. Actually the plot really is similar to Breakers now that I think about it. Its a lot... more>> more mature than Breakers though, breakers has that very shounen vibe going on whereas here you see a lot of the ugly side of war.

Also there's some MTG elements to spice things up, the MC unwittingly became a planeswalker and now uses magic cards to supplement his skills like summoning creatures as his henchmen or tapping land cards to cast spells. Its pretty good I highly recommend it. <<less

The plotline is very well structured, the translation is very good and immersive, and perhaps because of some good editing skill of the translator, this story isnt plagued with the common issues some CN have. All in all, Amber Sword is a very satisfying, engaging read.

Great solid start (book 1?) But it suffers from too many "power systems", there's sword arts, magic cards, magic and more.

The problem is that at soon pace starts to pick up with one the MC switches to a different one, its really frustrating. Especially when you expect him to use his knowledge from the game and he doesn't. (Like the other user said the author just tends to forget things as well)

The MC isnt an idiot but there was one scene early on where he intentionally gets hit... more>> or have is health dip bellow (can't exactly remember) but just saying that's the worst 'suspension of disbelief" and after that its all good.

Fights are always on the go, as soon as you think MC has finished fighting the boss, another one comes, then another. There's no rest for the MC or the reader. Book one is fine since they do stop and talk and not always on the go.

But I got sick of it when the demons and church started. It's a good novel without systems and game elements, I do recommend it. But just know that around the corner there's another fight to be done. <<less

I had been a pretty dedicated longtime reader of this series translations. This started out as a really enjoyable story. The 4th volume tho, the story and plot just devolves into unexplained random gibberish. It's become unreadable, and I have no motivation to read more. Became a real drag to read. Prior to that tho, It was aces! So that's my suggestion read the first 3 volumes and go into the fourth with the expectation that it's going to become drivel. Well, judging by other reviews, it might become nonsensical... more>> earlier but I didn't notice it. <<less

Ok story, with very few interesting scenes/situations - the fights are a bit too monotonous, with the MC's cheats, the fights are barely with any suspense... The two FLs so far are an airhead and one with overactive imagination (regards to the MC)...

Author is also inconsistent - broken swords are forgotten, injuries are not mentioned again, the powerups and levels are either way too longwinded or not explained clearly, and has too many names/places making story very confusing. MMORPG was fine, but suddenly we are supposed to keep track of... more>> the 'magic cards' and again the explanation is not clear...

Dropping it... <<less

Reading it was hard. I persisted for development in general storyline and how MC gonna do actual building of his own holding in the world etc. There is progress in those so I have reached my goal so no problems there.

There are times this novel act like a PC game where GPU is only able to render around 10 meters around our MC. Out of those boundaries are not able to affect the story at that moment. It might at end effect but we don't know it until it's... more>> explained. But it's really hard to continue reading when such inconsistency is there. This problem doesn't show itself for bigger plots but for micro scale unnecessary fights or scenes it's there.

Generally, not a bad novel, you wouldn't get hurt reading it if you're into building up base stuff. Warning though it will take some time until developing or building stuff begins.
