“The son of god Gula has returned.”

I was lost in the world of gambling.

I turned my back on my family and even betrayed my lover.

I wasted every day of my life.

It was a life of tr*sh.

The reality told me thus:

That I would amount to nothing no matter what I did.

In order to change my pathetic life, I chose fantasy, instead.

Even then, it was the same story.

I wondered if salvation would come at the end of the long road.

But, I was forced to kneel down in defeat in front of a powerful entity.

The tower I built up with my own hands crumbled into nothingness.

Just for once, I dearly wished to know the truth about myself.

“Come closer, my child…”

I will not hold back this time.

I'm leaving a review here after finding out how underrated this novel is. It would've been better if the chapter release rate was fast but overall the story is really great. The side characters are fleshed out really well and not just one dimensional, you can feel the protagonists life struggles while he was in Earth, it has a harem tag so some people who have excluded harem tags in their search filter might have not noticed that this absolute gem exists. It doesn't even feel like a harem and... more>> the girls who like the MC aren't just one dimensional and have a pretty good reason for liking the MC <<less

Quite an interesting story but we're basically still at the prologue/tutorial since he hasn't even gone over to the fantasy world yet. I feel like he needs to learn more about his ability. He's kind of just winging it for now with his incomplete memories.

He's got a very interesting ability... that he was actually born with. That's probably the most interesting thing about the novel so far. The side characters haven't been developed much because the story's barely started but I hope they're not as obvious as the 'underling', 'weak... more>> woman' and 'bad guy' from the tutorial. The story's moving really fast so I'm sure most of those were just one-time use characters. I hope the underling because a recurring character though, the MC needs someone rational around him. <<less

A very well written novel. The intro may have been a reason as to why this novel has not as much popularity as it deserves, but it really builds the main character and his future development. This novel is easily one of the top Korean Novels, and deserves more attention.

Edit

The romance is maybe the only lacking aspect of this amazing novel. However, I'm glad to see that the Japanese-level MC dense ness of Seol has an explanation. The cast of characters are really given moments to shine and are not... more>> just add-ons to make the MC shine, which is really great.

The best part is the amazingly portrayed and tense fights, build-up, and the small details the author sprinkles in seemingly obscure moments. It really builds up the story well.

Overall, this is one of the best novels you can find on this platform. <<less

I've read a lot of korean WN on this site and this one stands above the vast majority of them. Our main character isn't perfect unlike many other protagonists and he often relies on others to help him. His "cheat" isn't really busted and he encounters many situations where its near useless. The other characters introduced are all pretty unique and important to the story but they do sometimes seem to change drastically just by being around our MC. The story changes a lot after he finishes the tutorial but... more>> is no less excellent in my opinion. <<less

I have used novel updates for a year. In that time I simply had no use for an account. I am making this account just to rate this as 1 star and to warn others.

Honestly I saw the signs of an incompetent author but I ignored them since usually the majority is right in their decisions and don't rate sh*t novels as almost 5 star. There are other reviews describing what was horrible about it so I am only writing to say: are all these people new to light novels... more>> and simply can't tell if this is a sh*t story?

and the plot resembles Swiss cheese with all the plotholes and I apparently haven't gotten to the part the MC turns into a total generic cliche highschool student with hero syndrome.

(Looking at all the good reviews I am thinking either they are using bots or I am getting sent to a different story with good plot and sh*t author.) <<less

The prologue is just awkward and weird as hell.

Spoiler

So we have a scene where it is the end of a huge battle and the princess narrate about the background.

Outer space alien invaders one after another arrive on this planet... still in a fantasy/magical/medieval setting... you would really expect it to be a walk in the park if technological advance alien races come in spaceships. Would they still be fighting with you on the battlefield with cold weapon and magic? Very awkward for readers’ imagination.

The “Seven un-worshipped Gods”... oh good grief. No one knows about the seven Gods that were born at the same time as the planet. They suddenly appeared when the aliens arrived... yeah sure. Another awkward moment and setting by the author.

So you can’t send the main character back in time but you can send a memory or a dream back in time into an entity... author just wants to make his story seem different from other reincarnation but it’s not much different. Epic fail.

[collapse]

Tutorial, I thought I was reading a totally different story. What is up with Koreans and their missions and mini games?

Spoiler

I don’t understand how everyone finds the tutorial to be very interesting.

I am still baffled why his dream only allow him to know some aspect of the future and he was clueless and had to rely on cheats given by Kim Hannah when she gave him a Gold invitation.

Now why would Kim Hannah even give him a Gold invitation just because he knows a thing or two about the game? Dumb as hell. Everyone gets shocked by his Gold mark.

He practically clears the tutorial because of s*upid inexplicable power up by the author and the cheats provided by Kim Hannah.

Apart from his innate abilities, the rest of his “stats” are low. So how could he intimidate and scare away the first monster, which took 4 relatively powerful spells in order to defeat it later in the tutorial. His dream/memory/current body potential are all inconsistent. He is not the future Seol. No way should a game base on stats work this way.

What’s so impressive about him when he got a cheat diary telling him where everything is?

How on Earth he bulldozed through all the traps in the second stage with his weak stats and ability? Oh he got overtaken by rage... blah...

[collapse]

Korea is number one and the other nations are...

Spoiler

It is inevitable in a game there will be competing nations. We make sure we name Korea as area 1. I don’t blame them for this as the story is Korean. Now the problem starts with the guides when they have a private conversation.

You have the Korean guides complaining about their korean representatives being tr*shed with so few passing the tutorial. Yet they have the same number as China who they consider to be their nemesis.

When they talk about the Chinese pure hate is spilling from the author...

Mexicans are considered barbarians and syndicate druggies... burritos...

Africans and South Americans failed to pass the tutorial... regardless of intellect everyone knows they have some of the best athletes in the world. So once again the author is looking down on other race.

[collapse]

I just find so many problems with this novel even before I could sink in and enjoy the story. <<less

the story had a good start to the point of impressing someone and in the earlier version the human interactions were good... but then it's almost like other reviews say he started to get OP he is at level 1 and he has greater accomplishments than those at level 4... he sometimes forget his powers the 180 degree turn mentioned in one of the review was really true and annoying... he becomes just like the hiroto guy he always act's like a thick skulled MC... every strong character is Korean...... more>> well this is not a bad thing since it is Korean but the world is based on a place where people from various regions reaches. his trainer the previous big shot two of the true high rankers mentioned out of two so far and the most annoying thing is that he don't have a normal mission. but the worst part is objective... what is the objective of MC to get fame, to save the world, to get girls, or to lead a happy life I don't know he is just beating everyone else... training like an idiot without any objective forget objective he don't even have a target

Spoiler

he is not mentioned to be altruistic but always seems like one going to save a a boy who had his sibling dead and then he asks several people to get along in that whole baquet thing at stage 1... even that snake eyes... he somehow manages to deal with her given her personality, he saves that princess risking his life... given that he neither him nor the system recognises him as altruistic... a princess with whom he held no previous attachments the princess kissed him and he gets flustered I mean he was a gambler... so is the only trait you get after years of gambling is stealing... a gambler is generally an alcohol addict and most of the times a pe*verted person it's rather rare to witness a virg*n innocent 26 year old gambler I mean gambler forget that a girl two to three times snuck into his arms while he was sleeping wants to meet him at the café at her own call ... who could be that dumb. he once encounters a very strong orc. later he kill that orc guard which earlier mentioned to be rivalling the unique ranker even after going by the sense that the one of the gave him that mana spearman or level 3 choice and he made the earlier it didn't made much sense unique ranker is considered to be someone very strong... he is at level 3 alright let's consider him to be on par with level 4 but a unique ranker... they are someone at level 7 just intuition and flash step gives you the ability to defeat one. and why did kim Hannah gave him the golden seal she could have gave him a bronze one, a silver one but a gold one she is mentioned as one sly fox but that don't happen in that case. alright let's suppose one of his team mates die... what will happen other than the MC crying nothing will happen other than the priest's he can replace everyone... he chose a spear as a warrior, learned javelin throw as an archer and have a high amount of mana for earlier reasons so he replaces a mage . he sees that black colour and he passes the situation... but he put his life on line ? then was he saved by someone else... no never except for once with that yandere ghost. every mission he take he just puts his life on line... and for some reason that I don't know all the person stronger than him are either woman... kazuki is not stronger he just have a higher level as he is a grand path finder that makes him weaker... hugo is not strong... he is hard like a rock he has a higher endurance and strength but he is mentioned to be an idiot and slow other than him no man is considered to have a strong will to train with jang maldong... no one only him. and the only guys that can be strong are chicks who are attracted to him his teacher. chohong, that lookalike of yoo seonhwa and the princess. alright so their is an instance where he is given a gold mark and due to that he gets a 30 % discount and as he is first he gets a 70 % discount so what the author did was to gave him a 100 % discount will you believe that. do he have a rival... the answer is a blunt no love rival. no rival who detest him. no human who wants to fight him everyone just go around seol you are so cool wanna be my mate.

[collapse]

leaving all that sh*t the novel is fine, the world building is creative his abilities are creative interaction with family is nicely depicted... the characters do have their interaction with him. so if you ask me why didn't I gave it three stars... the thing is when I started it had a rating of 4.7... so my expectation were sky high and until the 80 chapters it was good but after 100 chapters it started deteriorating to the point I didn't wanted to read it anymore. but that's from my view the story and all the premises genuinely deserves four stars but 4.7 stars that's something it don't deserve. <<less

Actualy at first, I didnt have any expectation when reading this book but I was wrong. Really-REALLY WRONG. Now this is one of my most anticipated korean web novel on my list. The world buildings are quite lazy at first, like typical kr webnovel but that didnt last long. The MC is likable (except for the first few chapters) and side characters are amazingly potrayed by author. Just read it, you will be amazed.

I thought this novel was good because of the overall rating. Yeah, I can't be more wrong with that.

I'll start it with the protagonist as he is the one who navigate the story. He's the most important character so that the plot does not f*ck upon itself. And yet,

    • He's a hypocrite. That's one, for sure. He was a gambler, he was treating his families like shit, and yet he had the nerve to act like he has received enlightenment. That's crazy.
      Spoiler

He's gone mad at Earthlings for some sh*t like not participating in war against the Parasites. He's mad that they are a "pathetic excuse of human being". Like dude, have you ever seen yourself in the mirror?

      [collapse]
Everything about this novel is always in the black and white. It's whether you're good or you're bad in the eyes of the MC. It's about how to get the main character looks as s*upid as possible, detailed in 480 chapters.
    • He was a gambler, a scumbag who ruined his family, did I told you that? Yeah, forget that shit. Because literally a few chapters later, he's just so suddenly becoming dense, naive, typical isekai harem protagonist that is like a goddamn saint compared to the other characters. Talk about godspeed character development.
    • The MC isn't smart, like at all. He's jumping into lowkey every single possibility of dangerous scenario the author could ever think of. Also again, very inconsistent with his words. There's this one instance where he said, "I'm underestimating things, I should be more careful", but what happened? Not a single thing has changed since then. He's the same maniac dipsh*t as he was back then. Even though he has this ability called Nine Eyes where he can literally measure the danger level of the situation he's in or the people he's interacting with. He just wants all the attention to himself, that's just how much of a d*ck he is.
    • Seol Jihu is a literal god. He's the literal author of this god forsaken story. Do you know why? Because in every single deep sh*t trouble that he's in, no matter how dangerous it is, he will f*cking survive and pull off Deus Ex Machina card to the point of magnanimity and elevate it even further. It's a godlike plot armor because he himself is the embodiment of God.
      Spoiler

Oh? Parasite Generals are attacking? And MC is severely weak compared to them? Just slap off some protagonist power up moment and now he's overwhelming them. They just throw off things like his Nine Eyes being completely OP for no reason.

      [collapse]
    • This guy is such a Gary Stu. He's "perfect" from the start. Character development? No way, he stayed "perfect". The only character development is that dumbass one from the Training Area where he suddenly changed from drunkard bastard to harem protag.
    • Why is he the only guy capable of thinking? Like he's the only guy that is able to get the party out of trouble.
Now let's talk about other characters, world building, etc.

    • Spoiler

Did I ever told you that when Seol Jihu was a child, his ex-gf which is Seonhwa used to brainwash him so that he listened to every single thing that his ex-gf said? And that his mother is okay with that? Now that kind of psychopath fetish, child-abuse & parental disorder isn't really what I'm talking about. But do you get what I'm seeing here? It's the plot hole. See, if that is the case, then Seonhwa should be able to control this one hell of a behemoth so that he doesn't go off to the deep end of the abyss. But no, this englightened person is able to be a scumbag. So wtf is wrong with the author? It's so f*cking inconsistent that he's probably doing this so that he can fulfill his deep closeted pe*vert ass imagination.

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

This girl Seonhwa, yeah wtf is wrong with her? She's so wrong in the head. So f*cking wrong. Like your boyfriend had just gotten himself to be an a**hole, and you're cool with that? Even though you know how to deal with him? Oh yeah my literal lover had gotten crazy and I had done zero, nothing, nil amount of action to stop that. Cause yeah why the hell not. My god, you can always question the morality of these characters.

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

Worldbuilding is off. Way off. There was never a proper explanation to what happened in the past, or why the hell the story has gone off discussing about some multiverse shit. Like tf really happened in the era in which the ghost lady originally lives or the detailed info on the background of sorcerer lady family. We never got the answer to those question. And also, those Gods in another world, tf are they thinking when creating that s*upid ass system? Earthlings are your goddamn saviour. That's the only way your world can survive. And yet you have absolutely no control over them. They are able to freely decide whether they want to participate in the war or not. In that case, why would you f*cking summoned them in the first place? It doesn't make sense. Also s*upid ass chief deity, how in the hell are you letting yourself being devoured by the inferior Parasite Queen at the time? There is no explanation either on this. The fallen angel being apparently coming off from another world? Yeah just link it in with the author previous work that nobody even knows, and this scumbag of an author doesn't even care to explain the rest of the thing that happened. You won't even know the clear background story even if you read his previous work.

      [collapse]
    • Spoiler

Parasite Queen has 0 IQ. Like bruh. Her advantage is just so ridiculously high and yet, you still managed to get your ass beat by this dense motherf*cker. Why don't you just attack the spirit world real quick and send plenty of your generals so that the fortress is guaranteed to fall? Also, her advance to attack humanity is apparently being halt for some point before Seol Jihu came in that world? Like what?

      [collapse]
    • Other characters are useless. They can't think of anything. They just relied on this son of a bit*h MC. The whole Carpe Diem is just shit. The heroines, the guys, the mobs, everyone is just there to make MC looks good. It reminds me the trauma of playing Cold Steel. It's a sickening feeling. It's a sh*t ass harem.
    • I want to talk about how choosing the Gods affect your personality. Who's that again? Seo Yuhui?
      Spoiler

Apparently she's a borderline sl*t woman, becoming h**ny whenever her body gets exposed, an exhibitionist at the core because the God she's following is like the equivalent of Ishtar. Like seriously, the author must be a proffesional neckbeard. I must be wrong because, that thing is like, some f*cked up scenario you often see in some ero-doujin.

      [collapse]
    • The ending... Oh well. See it for yourself.
All in all, I judge this webnovel even worse than your usual misunderstanding JP novels. It's way worse than just your usual wish fulfillment, because... It's just that bad.

Author, your novel is a dumpster fire. It's so bad that people may just commit debauchery to random woman from reading this.

You're saying that this is good? Even more, a masterpiece? Idk bro, you should get yourself a therapy because it's highly possible that you're a f*cked up person.

People who can enjoy this are not capable of logical thought. There is nothing remotely good about this novel at all, and the MC makes it completely unbearable for anyone to even read it.

The MC, who is supposed to be cold, cautious, and 26 years old, acts like he's 8. He blushes around women like a b*tch, crys almost every chapter, and gets taken advantage of by almost everyone. I mean, if you can immerse yourself in a story where the MC is literally a doormat that is so afraid... more>> of women that he blushes and crys whenever one even comes near him, you'll enjoy this. I thought I was reading a JP novel from the way the MC acts like a complete and utter beta male. I expected a manipulative, dark protagonist and I got a wimp that has never lost before. I don't know if this author is gay or something, but no normal 26 year old man blushes around women like some child or ret*rd. But besides the MC, there's nothing else interesting. The characters are one dimensional at best, they're all incredibly bland and boring, the dialogue is unnatural and the banter is just awkward, the world building and exposition is even worse, there is no map, no geography, nothing is explained, the writing style is very bland, there is no plot twists/thrills because the MC never loses and always uses his gary stu powers to save the girl, there is no logical goals, every character is s*upid and incapable of logical thought or any sort of skeptical thinking and decision making, there is no character development, I mean.. I just don't get how anyone can rate this above 1 star. It makes absolutely no sense to me and is just.. Mind boggling. Crazy world man. <<less

I'm in a state of awe as to how anyone could rate this 5 stars. I understand if someone enjoys the power systems or some characters in the novel. But, my god! The character acts like a child. I know this criticism may not be a big deal for others. However, a 20+-year-old should not be behaving like this. Blushing constantly at every pretty woman - despite before being in a serious relationship in the past. I was going to type out everything I feel relating to this, but Nah.... more>> I don't even think it's worth me doing that.

The systems are OK (?) I suppose. The talent point level ups are a bit too few. Further amplified by the fact he didn't use it to learn anything, because "training" is better. That may be the case... But a dead character can't train, oh! That's right plot armor will save him.

The thing that really drags this story down though is the power the MC has. This is the largest problem with pencil-ing out an MC's power. If you make it too OP, as this one is, you get a situation where the plot was needed for the progression of the story. But, the power could've made the MC avoid all of this. Situations happen where it's completely illogical why he wasn't using it. It drags the story down, makes a scenario feel forced. Possibly just bores you.

Finally, I think I want to just say I'm a bit disappointed. I understand Ren doesn't and can't really choose what translators bring to the table. I also realize with QI in the picture it's hard to find solid gems. Think about if Lord of Mysteries was on WX... Anyways, the past few releases of novels have been so sub-par it's a bit sad. <<less

Don't listen to people who are bad mouthing this novel too much its a very good novel I have never wrote a review in my life but I writing it for first time because of the idiocy of some comments

Lets get some things clear yes he has ability (plot armor or cheat skill) whatever you call it but find me one novel who does not have it he has this ability since the beginning of novel which in fact was one of the reason he became twisted even in his... more>> previous life his true fate which was twisted was to be a Executor (most powerful person you will find in novel) in this novel you will see MC trying to change himself because he had garbage personality before you can see his effort again and again through out the series he only remembers a little of dream (in which he saw future) which is only seen in the beginning of the novel (yes he doesn't know every f*cking thing that's gona happen rather he dreams of his past life because his future self made a wish and just like other dreams he only remembers a few things while most is forgotten even the thing he remember is only because he recalls it again and again even then he forgets) after which he relies on himself again and again in 100ish chapter you can see him trying to improve him self to the point of crying and the instructor who called hell teacher saying that even he can not understand why he's pushing himself so much I have read many novels more than I can count but this novel sticks to its origin you can see MC trying hard to change him self both in personality which was shitty and strength because of lack of talent and all the work and effort is paying it off as reward for the choices he's made unlike other novel where you fell off an mountain and you can godly herb treasure or artifact etc.

In the latest chapters some people are pointing out he getting lucky but again I saw it because of choices he's made in novel until now and the priest girl the is helping her whos identity I can not tell because of spoiler because you will know why she's helping him like that if you know

anyway ill recommend people to read this novel its gold.... <<less

I would've given 4 stars, as this is a mostly good read and has fleshed out characters who interact in a realistic manner, which is refreshing,

BUT, the main character becomes more repulsive as time goes on. He not only doesn't stop being mentally weak and undecisive, but also becomes more slimy, selfish and ignorant. I'm fine with EVERY character in this story except him. His future self is supposed to have balls, but he even keeps almost crying and begging people to stop using certain types of language with... more>> him. He has a s*ave mentality and accepts everything other people do unless they FORCE him to make a decision. But every time he's in trouble he "finds a connection to his future self" and acts all "cool and mature"? WHY WAS HE WRITTEN THIS WAY?! that's disgusting. Such a person is more unrealistic than a magic RPG system. Remember all those MCs who are treated as tr*sh when they aren't? Well, he IS tr*sh. Worthless tr*sh who doesn't deserve anything and is given everything.

I LOVE "Tales Of Herding Gods" because the protagonist has amazing breadth of mind. He understands and accepts himself and others and acts accordingly. That's so rare in these light novels........ <<less

Bit overrated IMO. Plot armour is strong in this one. Coincidence happened all the times to save MC arse over and over again. Also the way MC act is really a let down. Instead of acting as an adult, MC is more like chosen teenage hero who can get away getting spoiled by all the girls he wants. I wish the writer stick with the gambling addict tr*sh MC who slowly but surely try to change himself by going through all kind of hardship, but instead MC do 180 degree... more>> switch after getting the memory and feelings from the future him. Plus, he tends to daze around most of the time when other characters in a pinch. Only after that then MC suddenly got a power up due to his ability to save the day. Anyway, the world build are cool and some characters are good. It's indeed a decent read. Does it deserves 5 star? I don't think so. <<less

Unfortunately the series has went on a hiatus which is unfortunately considering that out of hundreds of novels that I read, This series definitely has one of the best Character Development. There has only been 56 chapters since the release of this review therefore most of that character development only occurs with the Protagonist. Nevertheless, The Realistic and harsh surreal feeling made it felt genuine, it brought the viewers ground to earth with how the protagonist felt during those moments. The Novel has few slight annoying problems yet even that... more>> only dim the overall enjoyment by a minuscule amount.

I'll quickly Address the few problems before going in a extraordinary detail of the Pivotal entertainment, The Character Development. Some of the Throwaway villains are what they seem, simple generic thugs that the only exists as a mere annoyance. They never become to the extent that they exist only to showcase the glory of the protagonist. Rather they exist to serve as a lesson, a experience into understanding more of what the world may offer. However their character felt so bland and simple that the two time that it occur, It simply eluded a irritating feeling to those who read it.

The mechanics of the combat system isn't unique to say the very least. You have four main class with the former being able to branch out into more specializes class. There's no unique class for the Protagonist nor anyone else. The power system nor any sort of information about the combative system is said. As a writer, He/she should never compiled the system into a brief section which is called a info dump onto the readers at the early stage. Doing so will drain the interest of the readers and they should instead slowly reveal bits early on until later on when the interest of the readers is hook will the readers remember the information. However there has been little indication of any sort besides the basic information one can expect. I do hope that the Author goes into more depth about a unique atmospheric of a system since it does play a huge part. Having a novel in a potential huge world building novel, with simple battle mechanics, for a made up example, "Archer Strong Against Mage, Warrior Strong against Archer, Warrior Weak Against Mage." Is a very dull and boring concept.

However As the Protagonist abilities are unique solely to him, so If the series one day gets translated again then will we see more of the diversity through said such. So I remain very hopeful that the author will be able to managed well, and allow the battles to flow erratically through the diverse abilities from characters.

And now the Character development of this novel which in part is the pivotal entertainment of this novel. The introduction for the series was quite impressive for a webnovel, how it showcase the past of the protagonist, his downfall, and how he once driven into a addiction that he grew mad. During the prologue, You'll understand that his memories and emotion was transported back from the sacrifice of others. Those emotions play a part, For at first he questions the integrity of it however when memories repeated itself, he decided to trust it during at the most imperative moment.

But one emotion allowed him to crawl out of the pithole of his previous self, to carve a new identity and become a new man. It was Regret, Regret and shameful of his previous self and from his past life that it drove him to become someone different. The realization of his error, How pathetic he was, For those who live a treacherous life filled with the most accursed moments. You would yourself know that the problems you have at times cannot be sought out by yourself. To awake from a addiction whether its gambling, alcohol, or drugs, is a near impossible achievement. It's only when those people learn or beaten into does something from someone that they awaken from their s*upidity. They may even know the consequences but to awaken from that addiction, is a war that few can achieve alone.

That is why when he started to develop himself, it was worth something to cheer for. He work hard, During Basic training and during neutral zone, he became a man worthy of respect. Most of the events during these time mostly serve as a experience to mature himself in the real world. Those experience became his teacher and along with the instructor to improve his physical strength and perseverance. Upon entering the New World, while still young and inexperience, he became a character that we know will become someone we can truly respect.

So what happens afterward upon completing the Neutral zone and coming back home was a surprisingly take. What I had formerly describe, I imagine most of those who are reading this review, has read a novel that illustrate someone becoming a better man or simply claiming glory when they had no opportunity for such. But most of the time in those novels, the family who ousted the Protagonist, They welcome him or attempts to eliminate him. From there the progression with the family for the protagonist can go either way. However it usual goes in depth of a experience which we cannot relate too. There's definitely examples in our history that one person gets ousted then comes back and destroy the family lineage. Or The family accepts him and they allowed him to succeed again with him later on becoming the family head. However to any of you reading this, I definitely have all my doubts that you are currently experiencing something similar where your family is trying to kill you. So that's why when he came back, And visited his family along with his previous girlfriend, he hadn't met one of those event we imagine. He came back from his better self from years ago, back to his own world with a very potential successful future. He search his history of the damages he cause, the financial liability he made but that hadn't matter at all. Even If he were to become the most richest man in the world, The scar that was left behind could never be heal. The pain never came financially, They loved him but he chose a destructive life.

All those scars and mental pain he made, He'll become a better man but they will never amend. His previous girlfriend, it was a relationship that most people could only dream or desire in their vision. Yet after years even that couldn't hold on forever. The relationship broke, And when he returned to visited her as a new grown man, the most that she could told him was to stay friend. They couldn't return to the times when they were in love, they may hold feeling but now a chasm lay between them. This was why when I read this part, I truly appreciated this novel. It was grounded into something we can relate too, Perhaps not to his extent but the bitter feeling of wanting to go back to one another yet it laying as a mere thought.

This novel has some iffy parts that needs to be work on however for the most part. This is a solid series definitely worth investing into, especially the character development which will be the main focus point. As this novel only has 56 chapters translated, the few problems that I may question will most likely be address later on hopefully. <<less

The first 45 chapters of the novel are one of the best sequence of chapters I have ever seen. The author learned a few things from his past work and this time gave the protagonist a decent motivation, the problem is that he made a 23-year-old man with the personality of a 14-year-old boy. Often you will see mature moments (Gore / Horror Scenes / s*x Jokes), and the protagonist reacts like a damned protagonist in a Japanese harem light novel, always acting like an innocent and good-hearted hero who... more>> doesn't know how to interact with women. This is extremely frustrating.

Sometimes you may be in doubt if the protagonist is a genius or a complete idiot who knows nothing of what he is doing. <<less

The story of The Second Coming Of Avarice get's a solid 5. It takes some old tropes from Korean novels and uses them in inventive ways to create something that feels new and fresh. The main character of the novel comes off as a bad person when the novel starts, but he makes a conscious effort to try and improve himself, as to avoid going back to his old ways. His flaws are what makes the story believable in my opinion, and you should at least read the first two... more>> arcs of the story before making up your mind about him.

Other than that, I would say that a strong side of this novel is the mature writing style. The characters in the novel are written with a focus on realism, and will more often than not, act like I would expect real people to, in the situations that they find themselves in. The maturity can also be a negative though, if you are not mentally equipped to handle a bit of gore and r*pe. Just a heads up.

The only bad thing I have to say about this novel at the moment, is that that the release schedule has been testing my patience for a while now, and with the translator receiving a cease and desist order, we will not see any new chapters for a while.

All in all, put this novel on a list, and wait for the official translations to get going. It is definitely worth a read. <<less

There are so many inconsistencies and at some point into the story, Seol Jihu just turned into some saint for no reason. Borrowing the words of Ennei, it’s like a pushover highschooler transmigrated into his body in an instant. The story is just one big mess.
