From infancy to maturity, what Ye Zhou dislikes the most was “two”.

The reasons were: he was ranked second at home, he had been forever ranked second at school, no matter how diligently he worked and tried, he couldn’t shake off that “second” curse. What was more exasperating was that, at University, not only was he ranked second, but even his appearance that he was proud of had to be classified as second best!

Why can’t I obtain the first place!

The eternal second will rise!

Then, Ye Zhou, after his vigorous efforts finally rises and the result was… the first became his boyfriend.

This is the story of a man who has been forced to be “second” and how he became the first, most popular.

A quick wholesome little read that doesn't leave much impression but sometimes you need that sort of light fluffy warmth in your life.

I liked how MC and ML grew closer throughout and they fall in love very naturally and at a good pace!! I like the college student aesthetic of it all especially as you really get a sense of that.

I guess the big thing for me is that they love each other and you can feel it so well!! I love stories that give you the emotions like this... more>> so don't pass up this cute light piece where the cp has such good chemistry and banter. <<less

Short story about how misunderstanding leads to love.

A well translated story. The story is funny and fluffy 😄. Did enjoyed reading and laugh out loud at some scenes.

Really enjoyed. After completing it it gave a fluffy feeling with a smile on face.

Really like the story, the MC and ML has quite a good back story, and development. Really recommend it for fluff and short read.

However,

Spoiler

I really hope the author can elaborate more on MC parents after coming out to them. Kinda want to know will his parents accept him as a gay or not. And the relationship between Ye Heng and his parents too, especially siding with MC.

[collapse]

Other than that, I'm really satisfied with this! 10/10 will recommend

This is an incredibly sweet and fluffy story with absolutely NO DRAMA. The hilarious way they get together, literally every single friend being a bro right the sweet and fluffy end.

MC is not as oblivious people think he is. He has a very specific role in his mind for ML and very specific different person as his Love Interest. So it takes him a bit of time to get used to the fact his initial impressions may not be as perfect as he thought.

It helps that they actually use their... more>> words to COMMUNICATE their feelings to each other (and the friends take the initiative do so when they can't/won't) that it doesn't turn into a pointless melodrama.

I am currently on a Thai BL kick, and I think this would make a great adaptation.

And last but not the least, I am very happy that their daughter - Shang Ye - got her own happy ending. <<less

Sweet and cute. Very reminiscent in tone of You Boys Play Games Very Well, minus any gaming whatsoever... Mostly light hearted, but there is some angst from family issues. I found the resolution very satisfying.

The main characters are really well written and their personalities made me love them. Their flaws and the misunderstandings which are frankly hilarious makes this a wonderful read.

'Everyone Thinks That I Like Him' is one of the best BL novels I have read as of now. The dynamic between Ye Zhou and Shang Jin is so wonderful and adorable, they are truly one of the best couples in fiction works. The storyline is pretty good and held my interest throughout the novel. I love slow burn romance and a healthy relationship between partners, so this novel refreshed me! Honestly, there is no aspect in the story that I want to criticize, so I strongly recommend this novel~~

Enjoyed it. Even reread it.

Romance is developed in a slow pace.

Problems that come up with coming out of closet are shown for MC

... more>> MC family really treats MC bad except big bro. I really feel MC has strong mental capacity otherwise someone else would have blacken. Even MC big bro has some psychological shadow due to family.

They are *typical* asian family who dictates what their kids should do and how their kid should be first n all.

I really hoped author has given few extras for further life of theirs like MC family agreed or not, their career, big bro romance with MC college professor. <<less

Light, comedic and fluffy story. There are a few heart-wrenching moments in between (backstory) which I think made the story much more colourful- though not melodramatic. No rap* elements (forced kiss, sadistic inclinations etc.). I appreciate how the ML was so understanding and considerate towards the MC. Their chemistry is great and their interactions are very cute. The romance was realistic and gradual.

The main selling point in this story is how the side characters influenced the CP and their hilarious interactions they have with the CP and amongst... more>> themselves (and they're 3D not just cardboard cutouts which made the story much more realistic). The misunderstandings are funny rather than exasperating not like some other novels out there.

All in all this novel is my all-time favourites. I'm not much of a re-reader but I would probably reread it sometimes later. <<less

I usually lean in more to transmigration wuxia and whatnots. But suprisingly, this fic, I found, is quite enjoyable. A lovely gem indeed ^_^

Although it may not have the complex plots, still I praise author-nim for fleshing out the characters well and turning even the most mundane things hilarious lol. Also the interweaving of scenes and romance comes naturally, which I hardly find these days : (

Anyways, an amusing slice of life once in a while is satistfying hehe

This is my second time reading, after a year maybe. There is indeed a lot to like in this novel. It is lighthearted, no angst, funny, realistic. The premise is very similar to 'Love Stop Rumours' which I really liked. There are some great moments in this novel: the ShangYe car, the strawberry plants, the silly roommates, ShangJin’s beautiful confession (so simple yet so poetic), the couple’s wilful independence from their parents (not just financially independent but also emotionally, which I consider more important). I enjoyed their daily interactions and... more>> solid friendship at the beginning. I also loved ShangJin’s decisive nature and maturity and his swift actions throughout the novel. YeZhou’s mum as the archetypal education-obsessed chinese parent, is very well portrayed, totally realistic and relatable (for me).

YeZhou’s character I liked less for many reasons: his pitiful reaction to ShangJin’s confession, his indecision in regards to TangDongdong, his inability to confront his mum despite so much verbal abuse, his mixed attitude towards ranking (hey man, are you proud of your 2nd place or not?), his inability to realise his feelings for ShangJin despite being described as someone smart and outgoing with good EQ, a social butterfly even.

There is another thing I disliked, only one reader mentioned it: I also felt that the romance lacked intensity and passion. The only moment I felt any passion was from ShangJin’s confession. Then came YeZhou’s pitiful reaction which was totally anticlimactic. Even their smut scene was monotonous. It’s like: Let’s do it, we did it, now let’s sleep! Where’s the fluff? Where is the heartfelt emotion? The excitement? The marriage proposal was also pretty restrained and casual. Maybe that’s the problem with too much realism? The romance felt ordinary, just like any normal couple irl. The problem is not the genre. I have read many lighthearted slice-of-life more passionate than this one. <<less

I found this a day before my exams were about to begin and started reading it in between my study break, thinking that maybe it wouldn't grab my interest from the very first chapter and I would be able to put it down after reading a few chapters.I was dead wrong.

The story pulls you in from the very beginning and there's no way out unless you complete it!! It's a fluff fest! Very, very cute. What I liked the most was both the character's personality. And the plus part, both... more>> are them are extremely intelligent. Not only in studies but some of the stuff they say

Wow okay, I basically had to look for my old NU account just so I could leave a review here! I have to say, I started this novel with a lot of prejudice for this "school life" type of light story as I am used to reading plot-heavy novels and I've had a pretty bad experience with this genre. However, this is a perfect exemple of "you shouldn't judge a book by its cover". While at the beginning it does feel like it warps reality to accommodate the plot, the... more>> engaging dialogues and unexpectedly interesting personnalities of the CP sparked my interest and kept me going. And I do NOT regret that decision, this CP brought me so much joy I feel like reading it a second time. The most important aspect of this CP is that their relationship is healthy, it's a relationship of trust and affection, they can be sweet, incredibly domestic but also while keeping their usual playful banter. The ML in particular could have gone the "usual" danmei route multiple times but surprised me with his responsible and mature attitude. The first chapters might seem typical at first but it definitely gets better, the CP's relationship is so natural it's very comfortable to read, despite the whole "misunderstanding" thing. It personally didn't bother me much since I was much more interested in the ML's way of dealing with things.
The theme of family in this novel is also very important and realistic as well, contrary to my original expectations. Their issues with their families were both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
Overall, this CP gave me everything I wanted and more. <<less

Very heartwarming. A lot of BL novels out there leave me feeling uncomfortable; when writing about the gay demographic, it's not always done respectfully. I felt the author took care with these characters; it definitely is very slice of life, and I acknowledge it was sometimes about boring day-to-day stuff. This novel was genuinely so sweet, but not overly so; I highly recommend it. If all you're interested in is the NSFW stuff or tortured angst/abuse, this might not be for you. However, I easily rank it as one of... more>> my favorites! <<less

The story is so adorable! I don't have much to say except that there is a lot of fluff and is quite realistic. His interactions with his family and friends aren't overly exaggerated and reflects some things that happen in real life which I find to be either relatable or understandable. And it's also so cute with how MC reacts to the ML! They're such a cute couple :)

Very funny and heartwarming! I liked that MC and ML are equal, unlike in most other stories I've read. The whole university was hilarious. I laughed a lot.

The story is well written and the translation is very good too.

If I had to be picky, my only "complaint" is that there really isn't a physical description of the main characters other than the fact that they are tall and handsome, so I couldn't really pictured them in my head when I wanted to.

If anyone can recommend other stories where the main... more>> couple are in such equal terms, please do so :-) <<less

who said this was shonen ai lmao there's one smut scene xDDD

VERY CUTE!!! I FELT LIKE I WAS READING A KDRAMA HSHSH it was VERY sweet and pure and sigh. Yes. Handsome x handsome rlly exists here xDD sana all

loved everything abt it, it was funny and sweet. I loved how the ML played with his head but ends up being played by the MC as well! This was pure romance omg. Not rlly the most unique or exciting but sigh, its really just so lovely. I love it!!!!!

the characters... more>> are all likeable and I hurt with them when they experienced their struggles with their families. Rlly hit too close to home lol. Theyre so heckin relatable for me, a scholarship/honor student as well with the 2nd curse!

im really happy that they found home in each other T__T

so so cute soso pure soso sweet soso lovely I Love it so much!!!

BUT!!!!

If you're looking for heavy plot and adventures and heavy feelings and stuff, with exciting scenes and all that, this aint the read xD its really not the most unique, but seeing this written so completely/wholly makes it satisfying to read. It's also just v sweet and satisfies your inner cliché desires hshsh so so cute aaaa definitely a read for when you're depressed from other deep-ass bl novels ^^

i would love to read this again! <<less
