When a futuristic scientist is transported into the body of a young man in a fantasy world, his curiosity and desire for power push him to pursue magic. In a world without mercy, Leylin has no qualms about doing anything if it means benefits. He is cold, ruthless and calculating, never forming attachments that could impede his ultimate goal…

Honor? Who needs that… Hmmm… that guy seems too powerful for me to take on now… I better keep a low profile for now.

You want me to help you? What do I get out of it? Nothing? Bye.

Hmm… that guy looks like he might cause me problems in the future. Better kill him before he becomes a problem…

I'm not complaining about the MC being cold, ruthless, etc... I never think a MC have to be the trending Goody-two-shoes who is more or less teenage's wet dream. Before reincarnation he is pretty much a thug of our world. Now that he is in a Xianxia world, what he did can be said to be Logical.

About the Plot.. it's somewhat different from other Xianxia novel I've read, probably because of the MC's personality. If you think all Xianxia novels have the same plot, try to read this.

However, if you... more>> read Xianxia for the actions, OP MC punching everyone on the face, praised as a prodigy, etc...; this isn't the novels for you. The MC is OP, does acting for his own sake, is a "prodigy" (with the help of the AI Chip)... BUT he desperately tries to be low key while doesn't have any long-term companion; so only us readers know about his OPness.

What I don't like is how the Author abuse the AI Chip to write. The Chip's OPness isn't a problem, the problem is that the Chip is mentioned once in every 3 sentences. The MC does every single thing with his Chip. Well, it's Logical, but it's boring. Imagine playing a RPG but you get a Super Weapon +999 at Lv1 and you have to watch your character use it until you quit the game. <<less

Not an initial fan, quite different and darker than the typical xianxia, then again it is NOT xianxia. Really like this novel, Leylin comes off as a cold and heartless monster through his actions but honestly after reading 114 chapters I along with others (most likely) have realized in the twisted world he was reincarnated into one can only survive by being heartless

Starts pretty nice. MC doesn't have some way too OP power and just wants to get stronger in peace. Revolves way too much around money and becomes the driving plot point when you don't expect. Stiill would give it a shot. Pretty brutal too and ok with s*aves etc

I was pretty enthusiastic at the beginning (first ten chapters), but it did not last for long, meaning I dropped the reading after the 48th chapter.

The AI chip thing is... meh. That’s just a different (not a talisman, pendant, ring, stone, artifact, memories of some expert, friendly old ghost, etc.) and not well introduced OP item. Still okay though.

Throwing a “scientific” background in a “magic” world was risky, and the MC isn’t actually much of a scientist...

Rated 3 stars because it’s still good enough to be readable if I... more>> have nothing else to read. If you’re hesitating whether to read it or not, I guess you should give it a go... <<less

I don’t know yet (70 chaps), maybe this deserves 4 stares, the reason for 3 stars is that the story begins with a slightly boring training saga in which MC ofc doesn’t nothing but eat sleep and cultivate, later there are some adventures but it as well focuses only on the MC. So all in all this is like standard xianxia only without immortality for now and magic instead of ki, what I like is how cold blooded MC is.

Oh and endure exclamation marks, best just ignore them, maybe I... more>> wouldn't have even noticed if someone in another review hadn't pointed it out XD

fun fact - since the author is called the plagiarist he uses names such as Leylin, Delia, Redbud, Dodoria, Merlin. <<less

I’m not sure what people think of when they hear the word scientist, but MC uses A.I. Like any scientist would use A.I. Uses A.I. Like current scientists use computer modeling. Plus, of course the A.I. Is OP. An A.I. From the future would be OP in 2016, let alone in a medieval society. At least the A.I.'s capabilities are science fiction and not fantasy like the other "magical" plot devices. In addition, being surprised that this is a “magical” plot device story, while on a Eastern Serial Repository, with... more>> 7 plot device stories in the top 10, is naive. This is simply a different flavor of that trope and I like the taste of it.

Now, the complaints about it being almost slice of life, considering how the MC avoids danger, are a different story. That said, cautious MCs are a breath of fresh air, in my humble opinion. And while I like slice of life and am current on all the big ones, I take this MC over Death March’s, Invincible Saint’s, Picked up by God’s, Bringing The Farm’s and The Mage Will Master Magic’s any day. (God, The Japanese perspective is really starting to grate. How is being a doormat attractive. I just don’t get it. – Last 2 aren’t doormats, but I still like Warlocks MC better.)

If you don’t mind the magical artifact trope or want a different flavor, this is for you. If you are tired of harems, this is for you. If you are tired of doormat protags, this is for you. If you want a cautious MC vote Leylin. I think this is slice of life for those who don’t like slice of life. <<less

This is one of the novels I enjoy the most and I am keeping up with the raws – as of right now it’s at chapter 967. What I think it really sets it apart from other xianxia is the fact that it is done from the point of the villain. Yes, the character is the polar opposite of MCs from novels like ATG, PMG, CD. He is ruthless, completely self-centered, not driven by emotions and very calculated. It’s a lot more nuanced in the novel than I put it... more>> here (I’m not really a writer), but it slowly becomes apparent as the story progresses. I think the main character is really well done and if you want to fantasize about being the hidden evil master mind, who controls all from behind and gets all the benefits – betrays and uses both good and evil sides – then I highly recommend it.

Also the world I think is very well done. Although it does not have the same depth as ISSTH, there are many side stories that grow the the other characters and none of them feel like filler – all of them become relevant to the path of the MC later on.

The feel that I get from the story is of an epic and complex world with many themes (revenge, love, jealousy, thirst for power, destiny, rebuilding the clan, ...) through which the MC is just a small drop, that gradually grows bigger and bigger and influences the world more and more – all done in the quest for more and more power (like most other xianxia). <<less

I've since read up to 300+, and I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite novels. The MC is unique, and is the most logical (and coldbloodedly ruthless) of the MCs I've run across.

Spoiler

At one point, he fakes being in therapy as an excuse for not immediately sortieing out when the faction he allied himself into is invaded. This is so that the invaders can massacre a lot of the faction's members and do a lot of damage to the property, giving him a logical excuse for counter-attacking and wiping down to the last man the opposing faction (not just the invading army)

[collapse]

Not that the MC is mean-spirited, but everything devolves down to how he could achieve his goals and get himself the maximum benefit. He's quite scientific about it.

Spoiler

He gains access to a contemplation law that allows the user to have glimpses of the future. However, since he's not sure of the side effects, what he did was to create magical rings and spread it out at random. Those who find the ring are presented with a spirit that talks to them, and gives them instruction and guidance (ala Grandpa Doehring of Coiling Dragon). The MC has remote control capability over those rings, allowing him to nudge the users to do what he wants. Also, all glimpses of destiny that the users will have pass through the MC and his AI Chip first, giving him veto rights whether the info will pass through to the user or not (in case the info might expose the MC). In the meanwhile, the MC collects and extrapolates the data from multiple users so he has a bigger picture of the future.

[collapse]

Edit : Ugh, spoiler won't work >.< <<less

I've gotten pretty far on the book but decided to drop it. It's a nice light read but there are times when you just have to turn off your brain.

Pros:

• the magic system is pretty fun and I do love some of the powers leylin develops. The system is somewhat stable but also allows the MC to exploit it and become op. The fact different worlds have their own systems and said worlds reject the powers of other planets allows the MC and others to gain power from fusing other... more>> magical paths into their own.
Spoiler

the black phoenix is cool as well as the serpent transformation.

[collapse]

• leylin is truly cold and selfish which is nice since I don't really like hotblooded justice warrior main characters all that much.

• The world is interesting as well as so many different worlds and powers. I wish the author allowed the MC to slow down for a while and explore different planets. Allowing him to gain more powers to fuse into his own and create his own system would have been cool.

Cons

• My main one is the MC's attitude towards women and probably the authors as well. The MC has admitted he is a male chauvinist and doesn't truly take any of the women he's with seriously. He even has children outside his marriage. While this is normal in the magus world and the general vibe of the people it still doesn't really sit right with me. The fact the MC, who is someone from earth, just decides to immediately adopt such practices is jarring. I think at the beginning of the book he even has relations with Bicky someone who was in a relationship with someone else and doesn't resist at all. Underage girls in this novel are sexualised which again makes sense for the time this book is sort of based on but for someone from earth who was an adult lusting over children it is rather weird. He is very s*xual at times which isn't very often but it happens even though such things are a waste of time if he is so adamant about being an immortal. This sexuality can take you out of the book when every time anyone of the opposite s*x sees him he is this dream boat and the pinnacle of male perfection.

• Another con is linked to the first one loosely but it's his want for immortality. Now it's pretty normal to want to live forever and enjoy life as much as you want but with MC it was just kinda thrown out there with no development. This want is apparent that he seems very driven but then at the same time, he has the time to play around and have children. He even refuses other paths of power like becoming a spirit magus or fusing with elements not because they have extreme downsides power-wise but because they wouldn't allow him to 'enjoy worldly pleasures' later on. Now that would be understandable if it wasn't for the fact he was apparently so driven he would go against higher powers so he wouldn't get blocked on his path. If he was so determined to do that why would he care about 'worldly pleasures' and once he reached higher power he would still be able to create a clone or even adapt his body if that was such an issue. For such a 'driven' person who isn't influenced by passion and desire, ' he sure thinks about his d*ck a lot.

• No real time to let him grow into his power which I understand since he's supposed to be a peerless genius but I would like to have more exploration of certain points in the novel. The warlock organisation ruins, he still hasn't found a magus pet, no real look into the AI, the realm on the south coast was left alone which I could understand but also would like for him to explore more than what he ends up doing. Other worlds he hasn't even seen, power systems that could complement him well and give him better power and well-roundness

• another note to my first con but the way the author treats his female character is both very typical of many transmigration authors but still very disappointing. Women fall at leylin's feet without fail, he while even saying he has a wife has s*xual relations with other women on many occasions. He even has s*x with the snake dowager who is the creator of the bloodline he takes in. It is like someone having s*x with their great great grandmother who is still alive. He just has to smile at someone and they want to climb his bed. Women outside of this are very much all just beautiful curvaceous women who are white. Dark elven are dominatrix and he even gets female s*aves to have s*x with. It's rather unsettling how women are treated and I'm surprised how I was able to ignore it but that's mostly cause I was interested in the power system.

All in all, it's a good light read if you have nothing better to do but it's definitely not the epic novel everyone says it is. Just a story of a hypocritical, cold and selfish man who has a golden finger and is also this super sexy dream boat. I honestly believe with how much s*x leylin was having it must have been the author enjoying himself through leylin. <<less

Let me begin by saying that this novel is amazing. It is amazing. I finished the entire novel and believe me when I say I usually don't finish novels. I have a very very low attention span. If a book cannot keep my attention for a couple of chapters I will just drop it.

The thing I love about WMW is that author's ingenious way in keeping the plot moving. One way it does this is showing that everything is connected: even the smallest of plotlines has something to do with... more>> the entire arc. Every scene in this entire novel is connected from chapter 1 all the way to chapter 1, 200.

100% recommended. Support the author. One of the greatest novels of its genre. <<less

It was really worth reading and I really liked it. There was no romance and MC really is ruthless but that's how our MC is if you don't like ruthless MCs the don't read this.

I think the ending was a bit rushed but I felt the same way at the legendary mechanic novel soo idk if it's just me...

Anyways it was really good I really liked it 10/10 would recommend!

Well, the novel is nice enough to read but not great. The story is bad, it's like watching a child grow up, that's it. No twists or good turns which make it exciting and a very normal progression, weird personality that's sometimes good, sometimes bad and sometimes uncaring. There's not much of a goal in the novel except the MC who wants to live for eternity and its portrayed really bad, I mean read Reverend Insanity and you'll see how much he wants to be strong and live forever. A... more>> lot of things are very predictable. Also the information is very vague in the novel, he did that, he obtained a lot of benefits or information, he was doing this experiment, doing this alchemy, enchanting is very hard, I am a grandmaster level at enchanting and then after he got the main item, he got a bunch of other benefits, blah blah which won't be mentioned again.

The AI can do a lot of things and it doesn't explain any of it, it's not his cheat way of growing stronger, it's the reason the author chose for the MC to be strong, sometimes his AI is too OP sometimes weak which kinda doesn't make sense in the situations in the novel. Also the MC is not a scientist, at best like a 9th grader who knows the word Science. I mean how the * does a scientist belive that fire can be a law in the world or at least not question it, I think him being a scientist (not) and a cool OP AI it should have been more through but that's the decision of the author.

I think the prologue should have been like this "A semi selfish teenager was walking in an alley and finds a dying man, he goes over there to see what's happening, he sees the man holding something, he tries to get it but the man thinks it's a kid coming over trying to help him, so when he gets close the man gives him the box and dies, the teenager surprised carefully opens the box and sees a weird technology. As soon as that he sees men in black clothing nearing him from the other side. So he runs with the box in hand but unfortunately truck-kun is waiting for him at the other side and then bam, he travels to another world." <<less

Honestly, this novel was a really refreshing one, the MC is not the typical MC you have in other manhuas or any Manga out rn. I'd say if you're into an MC that basically does not wimp out, or an MC that have a logical reasoning I'd say give this Novel a try, it's not for everyone for sure since MC is not your typical "Hero" type of stuff and will only care whatever benefits him the most.

Finally, a protagonist that is pretty reasonable and wants to gain power. The AI chip thing is kinda BS, but overall it's really entertaining. It starts to drag a bit eventually, but that's just what happens when you binge over 1000 chapters. It managed to stay interesting enough that I never stopped reading it despite the length, so I'd definitely recommend reading it when you have a free week

It is an excellent novel, but the protagonist is hardly a hero, it is the type of character strictly logical assessing the costs and losses. (This sometimes makes him very cruel)
But it is possible to understand his motivations, a very human character, sometimes he is an as*hole simply because he is fun (just like all of us)

After following the story Leylin Farlier until your thinking will change, you will see someone playing the hero and then ask yourself '' What? What benefit will he get? Why? '' Notice is a novel focused on the adult audience, if you have any disillusion that reality is happy and people are good, I fear that it is not appropriate to read.

It is difficult to describe Leylin Farlier, but it is "unique" that you do not approve of all your actions, but you will still understand the reason.
If you like clichés and heroes, don't even look at this novel.
With the exception of r*pe, he does everything a modern society abhors, but he is still not a maniac, he has his reasons.

If I compared this to actual edited and published pieces of work I would have to lower the rating of this novel quite a bit, but seeing all it's competitors, I can say with absolute confidence that this is the best book I have read in the webnovel sort-of category. Reading this book, you will never find yourself thinking that the main character is an idiot, you will never find yourself thinking that the novel has too many plot-holes, and you will never find yourself skimming chapters because whatever's going... more>> on is pointless filler that doesn't matter. Warlock of the Magus World does have some flaws, however, you will never find yourself blankly looking at your screen wondering what the hell you're doing with your time. That's all I've ever asked from a book, and Warlock of the Magus World gives this to me. <<less

Read this novel twice and it is hands down my favorite. I'm tired of main characters running into trouble every few chapters because of a girl, because he/she tried to help someone and overestimated his own abilities, and most of all tired of reading their weak ass get saved due to plot armor. Leylin is cold blooded and heartless, but he gets the job done. All of his success is due to his own/chip's ability. Non of that MGA crap; getting power-ups in legacy locations that only open up every... more>> hundred years, but just coincidentally it's going to open in a month and it just so happens he has the perfect connection with it so he can control all the secret formations and slaughter everyone (but doesn't because he wants to be righteous and later acts surprise when they still want to kill his guts). The thing I love most about this novel is Leylin's ability to scheme. Don't you just hate it when enemies are always the one doing the scheming and MC falls for their trap? I do and that's why Leylin is my favorite character of all time. <<less

Really good MC. Especially if you are sick and tired of those brainless MCs who HAVE to save everyone and annoy you to the point where you wish they would die and stop reading. Leylin (the MC of this novel) is the villain except there are no heroes because in this novel character who prevail by the power of friendship don't exist! :D. Instead, even the good-aligned characters have brains (at least the ones who live for more than 3 chapters), meaning that they don't just brainlessly attack... more>> all 'evildoers' they know how to pick their fights and that's what I love about this novel.

Really good power system. The power system is always very important especially in these types of novels, and WMW doesn't disappoint. I was always interested in how the next advancement was going to happen and what was needed to advance in the first place. Almost all of the MCs rank ups are very exciting to read with some being the most exciting moments in the entire novel.

TL;DR: Ruthless MC with an actual brain and cool power system. Read it. Rn. <<less

In every novel the MC takes a typical position in each stage of the story. Here what I mean: In most xianxia novels the MC is a disciple of a sect that participates in competitions between disciples/sects, then maybe a war erupts and he fights for his sect before getting a power-up and moving to the next sect in a higher realm... and so on.

Now, in WMW the MC always eventually takes the role of the scheming plotter that cheats others for his benefits... more like a mature senior and a rival of the higher-ups than a young cultivator who takes a master and fights disciples of other masters. He plays in the high game and only moves to the next region/stage when he becomes the overlord in his current region. So that when he starts anew in a more powerful place he is not at the bottom of the food chain.

This is what makes the style refreshing. The rating could have been higher but in the latter part of the novel is is clear the author lacks direction/ideas and the plot is not so well thought. Things also get a little too easy for him then.
