MC is not a good guy at all, but the world building and plot direction make it fun. It's only about getting stronger for him.

Some chapters I skip in its entirely, but

4.4 thus far.

Again another one of those sorcerer novel, with very cliche story troupes... New elements include a okayly decent MC (though the MC becomes ruthless and uncaring after obtaining power)...

Other new element is Golem creation... The story is interesting and has good set of exciting elements...

Could have been better if there was more importance given to romance ?

I give it 4.2/5

Edit: I've actually got a much better opinion of this novel now than when I first wrote a review. AoA suffers from a weak opening, but it improves immensely after the first few arcs, to the point where I'd say I actually look forward to reading it more than I did with WMW. While characters do occasionally fall by the wayside, as a whole AoA is much better about involving the side characters in an engaging way with the plot than the majority of novels here. Additionally, while it did... more>> end up with that polygamy tag, the romance is still bearable because the haremettes have actual long lasting motivations and roles in the plot beyond "hur hur I wanna bang MC".

Previous review:

Recommended: Sure; if you've got some time to kill Age of Adepts isn't anything amazing but it's okay. Honestly, 4 stars is a little high by my standards, but given how bad three star novels on NU usually are I can't leave rate it that low.

There are a couple of common complaints to address.

AoA suffers from the comparisons to Warlock of the Magus World. Frankly, it's not as good as WMW. However, looking beyond that, it's a perfectly entertaining novel on its own.

In my opinion, complaints that the protagonist's personality is inconsistent are overblown. He's not really a genius but he tries to act according to the situation.

This novel is exposition-heavy, but personally I find that it's fast-paced enough to the point where that doesn't really bother me.

Lastly, logical inconsistencies... yeah, they exist and they can be pretty jarring. Sometimes, you can just assume that the author just poorly explained things the first time around, but sometimes it's clear that the author's just pulling stuff out of their rectum. Your mileage may vary.

In terms of what AoA does well, that'd have to be characters, especially in comparison to WMW. You get to know the side characters, and even the antagonists have a little more of the limelight than in many other novels. There's also a fairly okay romance going on, by xuanhuan standards.

This book, though not one of the best, is still an enjoyable read. How does it compare with WMW ans WW though?

In the Age of Adepts, the Ai chip is still quite strong cheat. But it is not as overpowered as in WMW, where I personally get the feeling that the Ai-chip is the MC.

Secondly, this is the only amongst the three, which does not focus on bloodline adepts. The MC is a fire elementium adepts with golems as a support. Btw. Thus far the strongest ability of the chip... more>> is improving the golems

Thirdly, he gets to a clan as a rank one adepts, so this is actually also the only one amongst the three where we can get a look on how the relationships are when one is not at the top from start for once. He also experienced a plane war as a cannon fodder.

Fourthly, although he has the cheat, he does not go 180° with power and char. From start.

Fifthly, sometimes, he actually loses.

Lastly, though the characters personallities are a bit extreme, there two of them, which survived over 200 chapters and maybe not often, they were occasionally mentioned. They also, for now, keep up with the MC.

As for bad points, I feel like some matters are forgotten quickly and several arcs are not used to their full potential. <<less

It's better in a sense than WMW because MC is more likeable and less evil than Leylin, the world at first seems more peaceful and friendly but it's about as dark as WMW world, where everyone schemes and backstabs each other, here at least you find some good guys sometimes. The novel feels like D&D often due to spells names and stats, like health, and damage dealt, there are wizard spells like ray of enfeeblement, fire arrow, slow, curse, elemetal summon, hasten and the like, and s*avery is much more... more>> prevalent in this novel, like 90% of beings are s*aves, and there is bullsh*t about Will of The World expelling people, but in the end it's decent, I wait for more translation. <<less

Great read! I thoroughly enjoyed it, long at times, but a great storyline.

If you like a lot of detail, an MC that’s not too OP but calculating who has guts, no harem and actually well written baddies - this will be an enjoyable read.

Word of warning however: the novel ends abruptly. From hearsay it seems to have been an issue with the publisher and not the author, so there might be hope yet... although when I’m writing this 3 years have gone by since the last published chapter.

The 4.0 is... more>> mainly for this reason as we’re about 60% through.
Spoiler

(looking at the progress we at least need the following arcs :

- Greem coming back / Lucia and Greem meeting in the abyss

- Greem becoming fire king

- The disappearance of the 9th grade adepts

- Alice and the northern witches / battle with Maysa

- Greem battling in another war with companions for treasure + reaching another level

- Devouring beast Bloodline : change, evolution or heritage

- Etc...)

As most people who commented, it’s a very frustrating end, somewhat disappointing, but it’s left us yearning for more. <<less

To start, this fic is a subpar clone of the Warlock of the Magus World and The Wizard World. Honestly, there is little to distinguish this from these two amazing works, besides the whole 'harem' BS that has grown out of control. If you're here to read a cool MC who using every advantage to climb through a ruthless world, you're better not reading this.

A) The story has horrible pacing. Every chapter is filled with summarizations of the previous chapter along with multiple paragraph expositions to describe Ex: the color... more>> red.

B) Numerous core functions of the world/AI-Chip is forgotten; brushed away for subpar story telling. Where the amount of strategic battles becomes nil.

C) Harem shenanigans... There's also major plot armor where everything magically works out.

D) the first 400chps are a speed run guide. The story takes the bar minimum to show actually development in his powers. Instead we are made to assume he magically grows stronger by throwing himself into conflict. Which shows the lack of ability to balance conflict with tension and the period of rest.

Rate - 2.8/5 - Not very good. <<less

After reading the book I can say that while it is indeed simual to WMW it distances itself fairly early on, the only think that remains consistent between the two is the theme of having the chip, but the characters and plot differ from each other. The central difference lies in the characters goals, while leylin from very early on is focused and cold towards other as it is stated he is a researcher and as such that is his focus, whereas greem for the most part of the book... more>> has his goals related to his emotions.

The other thing I will say about the books is that it is a nice read and enjoyable. Don't read it yet though as of the current moment from when I'm writing this the books seeming ends hinting towards a new book to continue the plot. Wait until that book comes out before reading this one. <<less

This novel is really awesome. It's an adventure of a young magician with the aid of his AI chip. At first I was not into it because I didn't like magicians as MCs. Well, it's too OP usually even in RPG games. However, the personality of Greem is great. He's realistic and strives to get better. The AI chip just helps in calculations and automating things but it's not OP. Greem did not have easy battles against enemies at the same level. He is not just a one man show... more>> as there were times that he was saved/helped by one of his lovers. Admittedly, he becomes crueler as time goes by as he kills people in other worlds. It is just an influence of the ideals of being an Adept.

I really like to thank Alan Jones who said in his review that Greem's lovers are no push over. That they were able to survive a war and defeat the enemies on their own without his help. That really got me to try and read this. It gets boring when every chapter is all about the MC. I also love that the supporting characters have their own story that connects with the MC's. I read some of the reviews and someone doesn't like Greem being a side character to Alice's side story. It makes the story better, it shows how a man should support his girl and it was awesome. You'll know eventually the effect of what he did to Alice.

PROS:

    1. It has clan/army building from chapter 400 onwards. This part really got me hooked as I love this kind of story. He conquers other worlds for resources to improve his clan. He gains a lot of interesting subordinates and enemies due to this. You'll love the goblins!
    1. The MC is not righteous. He does what he wants and kills whoever is in his path towards becoming stronger but he also knows his limits and does not just offend anybody.
    1. It has a good romance. His lovers gets stronger like him. I really hate novels where MC will not be able to have moments with his lovers/wives because of the power difference. Sometimes, they are just mentioned from time to time. But here, his lovers have their moments too. They still have their own side story. They have their own path and it does not just revolves around the MC.
CONS:

    1. The MC's magic is just about fire as he is a fire magician/adept.
    2. It's a bit short for 1500 chapters. I would have been better at around 2k chapters to show his adventures when he is super strong.
I hope people would not review a novel unless they read around 300+ chapters and rate it bad. Since I usually read reviews before starting a new one. It would influence others who would or would have not read it due to a certain bad review.

Thank you to the author and translator for doing a good job. Hopefully, the author writes a better story than this in the future.

It's a great read! <<less

Overall good, but some part are desapointing. Also, maybe its because of translation, but the writer seem to have trouble with the distance. I mean you cannot have a discution with someone else 100 metres away from each other in a jungle, or you cant walk 50 000 kilometres in wood... by the way, earth circonpherance is 40 000 km, NY to Seatle 10 000 km. So some part are ilogical but the world is interesting

Many, including myself, would compare this to Warlock of Magus World. But I've come to think that Age of Adepts is very different from MWW and much better too. I've heard rumors of a bad ending, but the story so far has been great. I don't have it in me to write a long review right now, so let's just say that this novel is very good. It has elements we liked in WMW and searched for in other novels, and doesn't have many of the things I disliked in... more>> WMW. I guess it feels like a newer, better novel from the same author. <<less

The first 300 chapters are good (4/5), but once the MC starts to build his own clan of Adepts, it becomes quite boring because the focus is less and less on the MC, but on secondary characters who are not really interesting: between the 500 and 900 chapters, I honestly skipped more than half of the chapters because of that.

For example, in WMW the MC becomes rank 6 arround chapter 1000 (both novels share the same world cultivation concepts, among many others things), while in this novel, the MC is... more>> still rank 3 (among 9 ranks known) chapter 900. The worst is that this novel has only 1500 chapters and if you've read the others reviews, you'll know what it really means...

The author could have explore much more the world concepts in the chapters written: unfortunately, it feels that starting the gobelin plane arc (500ish), the novel has lost its interest. <<less

This novel does have a story main plot but it is not the main characters story it is his girlfriend/lover/wife's trying to protect him.

The strongest enemy he gets is a 7 rank mage that was successfully stealing the power of fate from the world and he is a mere rank 1 mage when they become enemies. He gets in her way indirectly and cause her headaches, that why she try to kill many times in novel.

All female characters are beautiful as they typically get surgeries to enhance there beauty. It... more>> states this early on in the novel when MC says that he doesn't like woman that go that far for beauty.

The power development seems slow as the story is expanded in every aspect but the main character is less then 500 years of age when he becomes a level 5 mage, which is consider for young as they typically need to live for couple thousand years for such strength.

MCs personality is twisted as his soul merged with the bodies residents soul and he became the main conscious of the body and then stayed couped up in a place that twisted his personality even further as when he was an acolyte he was always careful and guarded against other people. He was paranoid.

When he became stronger he thought that everything would be fine as his outward look towards everything is casual and carefree, which always makes him being schemed against, he never has backup plans.

The world will of the place he is staying at is also always protecting him due to his help in protecting its origin and helping grow stronger.

Most of the laws in the world wills origin is gifted to it (or taken) from the other mages to strength it so that it won't become a dead world like one of the other planes that is similar in strength compared to it. But some mages are still trying to steal it's origins, which will weaken it.

And most strong people know he is not born from the plane as the strong people can see that his was reincarnated as it is a way to change the fate of the world.

This novels plot is focus on Main character fighting fate as his enemy is the witch of fate that controls some of the worlds fate as he ruined her plans. The witch of fate wants to get the power of fate that her incarnation was supposed to give her but failed due to MC.

MC only focus on becoming stronger as he is paranoid. He is a neutral aligned character. <<less

Age of Adepts is quite a balance novel the MC is not quite OP the level of plot armor on the novel is average unlike WMW (warlock of the magus world). The MC has real companions he doesn't act alone and fights alone later in the chapter each of its companions has its own story and everyone level ups with MC

The only downfall of this novel is its EXCESSIVE and REPETITIVE detail of introducing information almost each fight (especially on the later part of the story). I even wonder if... more>> the author's intention on this is just to lengthen the wordings to hit the normal quota of 1200-2000 words each chapter.

Well overall if u can tolerate the downfall above well it is a good novel

okay did a 180 might read 100 more chapters but after a point the author just dgaf about rationality
example mild spoiler, if a girl says to a man who is into her "if you beat the MC in a fight you can have me"
and then that man turns into a monster and starts fighting you, you beat its ass then you start getting
hunted because you attacked and injured this guy for no reason hrm author you forgetting this
man agreeing to this fight right ? If he does that all through the story its [tr*sh]. Will keep reading
but if anything that could literally be solved by talking to a person about the reason of said things
going bad and causing a situation or story arc will drop and won't even give half a star.

The setting is really great as I'm a huge fan of spellcaster maincharacters, author does a bit too much explaning in the fighting which makes the whole feel non fluid and kind of a bother to read, like numerical points of damage which is kinda s*upid, especially since it's not just explained once or twice.

The chip is a great crutch to get an edge on everyone which makes it a bit more interesting and I guess belivable how the MC progresses

World building is good but a bit too many info... more>> dumps for my liking, basically a lot explaining that you yourself already understood as the reader, so it feels very word poopy and intelligence insulting in some areas

I've read about 600chapters and this is exactly how the MC reacts every damn time Confidence > shock > desperation > clutch win > confident again. It bothers me on a deep level. Why so confident you bastard?
I don't appreciate my confident character gasping or having facial spasms constantly prob looking like a ret*rd to the rest of the characters

Characters stay within their roles The aggressive Mary, The sneaky Greem, the c*cky Alice, I felt them kinda natural and nice.

Author has a tendency to create problems out of nowhere, intuitve characters that just guess the MCs actions as he takes them which starts a fight on uneven terms which the MC often wins but still, always getting caught unprepaired, Greem feels frustrating to read about.

I'll give an example, One of the characters has to do something to progress, but has to capture an enemy to do so, character can't do it themselves because frankly they're too weak and the enemy has a 100% chance to subdue this character. What happens you ask? Character goes anyways, when author has previoulsy established why character can't go themself. BRAIN FART. And this is known by all characters, still goes along with it because I guess there hadn't been a ret*rded fight in a while?

Romance is honestly shitty but not the lowest of the low tier I've ever read in a CN, it's kinda "harem" but thus far MC has only gotten together with two characters he's known since the early chapters which makes it kinda natural. I mean Novel isn't even about that sh*t but since it appears I thought I'd say something about it, since I personally usually like when there is some romance aspects in my action/adventure novels. Adds some spice into the mix yaknow

Also I cannot stress this enought since I am hugely bothered by it, Sci-fi elements. Cus apparently Asians can't f*cking write something without jerking off to Starcraft, Red Alert, Gundam etc. Ok I am exaggerating but there's an arc in the latter parts where MC gets a machine army. I like novels like this for their medieval feel etc. Like not exactly but you know what I mean. Magical creatures, Magic spells, Dragons and giant machines, doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Maybe I'm overly critical of it, you'll be the judge of that I'm sure

All in all a pretty nice read with some annoying elements for me personally, but I don't think the negatives drag it down too much <<less

It starts off nice watching the MC scheme his way to survive. His decision to keep one of the heroine for her combat skills (+beauty) is off as she is reckless and love to fight and gain power. This will cause problems in future but due to the plot amor they can get away every time which is annoying

This story hooks me since I started reading, this is incredible as he struggles to improve and not fall in the attempt.

It is very different from WMW, each story has its own.

I did not like the way the author is leaving; I expected more chapters to see it reach the 9 level and overcome it.

I hope you continue the story soon.

I thought I was resting because the page is not updated with more chapters.

If you are looking for books about worlds of magic, this is a highly recommended one.
