The Male Lead’s Villainess Stepmother

Description

Yan Shuyu, a big fan of all sorts of cliche CEO novels, had transmigrated into a book —

In the novel, the wealthy CEO male lead has a villainous stepmother. She put up a front of being nice and tender to him, when in fact she was bullying the male lead with her son. After she had successfully driven the male lead and his father apart, her ambition continued to grow as she attempted to take away the inheritance from the male lead. In the second half of the book, the truth came out — that the father had no feelings for her whatsoever but was merely using the two of them to hone his son’s character. In the end, both the stepmom and her son were sent to jail by the male lead after he took over the family business.

Yan Shuyu transmigrated and became the well-hated villainous stepmother, but she had transmigrated to the time before everything happened, and the male lead was still a foolish child. Only a fool would want to become the stepmother of a foolish child. Yan Shuyu took a longing look at her “assigned husband”, who was pretty much like the Sleeping Beauty, before she quickly packed up and made a run for it.

After that, Yan Shuyu checked out her $250 remaining on her card. She turned to look at her son, who was clinging onto her leg and asking for milk. She wanted to look up at the sky and howl. Is it too late to go back to become the male lead’s whetstone?

This is probably my favorite novel in the 'became the mom of the villain/transmigrated into a mom' genre. The MC is just so hilarious, everyone thinks she's a tiger but she's actually just a slightly dumb, vain, spoiled cat that gets her head stuck in jars and falls off tables before walking it off like 'I meant to do that'. She's also genuinely a nice person, despite being a bit self-absorbed. Like that friend that loves to talk about herself but the instant you're having a bad day, she's got... more>> your back. In a lot of the other novels, the MCs are so firm about avoiding the plot/ML but eventually give in and it's kind of annoying, especially how fast they change their minds. In this novel, tho, it's absolutely believable bc it's not that she isn't trying to stick to her guns, she's just easily distracted and a bit of an airhead. Somehow the author managed to write this kind of character without it being annoying, so I'm quite impressed.

If there was anything to nitpick, I guess you could argue that the ML is a bit manipulative but that's par for the course with black belly characters and he hasn't done anything to harm her or anything she's not pretty much 100% willing. It's a bit like watching someone dangle a feather toy for a cat to trick them into your lap, lol. Also, their two kids are so cute! <<less

It's interesting for a quick read but it doesn't really make me want to come back for it. It's one of those novels where you binge everything that's available and then forget it ever existed because even if you put it in your reading list it doesn't catch your attention. There's no suspense, plot twists, or anything. It can be funny while you're reading it but now that I'm looking back on it I don't think it's something I'd ever read again.

MC is an idiot.
Spoiler

ML kills her and her child in *the book* and it turns out before she died that he never loved her or her child and were just using them to sharpen his son (who he emotionally abused and gas-lighted to the point where its described that he hates him and would never forgive him). He caused problems and helped to ruin his own sons childhood so that'd he'd be 'stronger. MC knows all this when she takes over and immediately wants to nope out.. But does she? No the s*x was too good so she pither patters around despite knowing hes a completely f*cking psychopath who did all that in *the book*.

[collapse]
MC is so childish and idiotic it makes it unreadable. She espouses that she cares for her kid every chapter but literally doesn't do anything to help him after the first few chapters. She waits for the ML or secondary male characters to raise her kid for her. Did I mention the MC is an idiot. Because shes an idiot. The way she acts no one would ever want to put up with her but novel world seemingly being so s*upid you forget where you live is so attractive that every male instantly decides to help her.

I've read quite a bit of the original, and honestly the story isn't bad; it's your typical "pretty MC with a bun, and CEO chasing her down", except CEO has a bun too this time. Honestly nothing about this story is super original but I'd say it's decently written and it's cute watching the future ML and Villain become buddies.

So why the 3 stars? Well; MC's characterization is both refreshing and discerning. She's so hit or miss that she makes or breaks the entire story. As a spoiled, single child... more>> fresh outta college, she's refreshing in that she's not automatically a good mother like everyone else who transmigrates. Her bun sticks to her immediately though. It's refreshing to see a transmigrator who doesn't suddenly become one of those saintly, amazing, beautiful mother characters and acts like the young girl she truly is. She isn't some instant genius, nor very smart, but she recognizes that she has no chance surviving in the upper class and leaves. Her personality is simple and a bit sunny, but does what she has to do and works when she needs to.

the bad? She's a terrible mother!!! For example, She pushes off her child to others to go shopping or watch movies by herself. It's realistic in how she retains her 20's personality even when crossing over but when you mix it with her self-confidence and self-assurance, she becomes a bit vapid and flippant. She isn't unskilled or idiotic but she can definitely become grating at times. While I never outright disliked her, sometimes her actions and self-centered attitude made me pause and stall in reading. <<less

I think this novel should be given chance even though the MC seems really useless and s*upid at first. She adjusts little by little and slowly she is trying the best for herself and her son.. The interactions between her and ML is funny and the kids are so cute. Recommend.

MC tried at first to run away from the novel plot. However instead it arouses ML to chase after her. I like that ML pursue MC 'gentlemanly'. Every time MC tried to shot him down, ML will counter back that MC become speechless.

The two kids are also cute. Yan son is a 'good big brother' towards Zhou son. They become good friends because both of them are MC admirer. For now it seems that Zhou son is trying to plan for MC become his mom. LOL.

I've almost finished reading this novel as it has 101 chapters.

If you like romcom novels, it would be perfect for you. Narration is really hilarious. You will certainly have at least several of huge laughters that will BOOST your mood. This novel is light-weighted and drama free. Therefore, it will help you relax your mind. Give it a try.

However, there are certain controversies about whether FL is an idiot or not since she always acts carefree and dig her own hole and enter Black bellied ML's trap. I have to... more>> deny that. She is smart in her own unique way. Also, in normal romance novels, there are at least few moments that FL feels insecure regarding ML. In contrast, this has reversed roles. What I mean is that FL is emotionally detached person. She is quite cool and won't divulge into any negative thoughts about ML and her love rivals.

So, when your privileged ass starts to think FL is an idiot and it irritates you too much, just drop it at that time. But, again this novel is worth to try ;) <<less

This book is hilarious! Personally I really like this book because MC is a person full of nonsense. Her narrative always amused me, full of crazy and stup-d reasons. She's kind of person that people love or hate. Some people find her annoying and childish but some people find her amusing and helpless. The reason I can't truly hate her because the author make her full of nonsense and she knows it (but in denial). I always eagerly waiting for her nonsense but strangely logical rambling.

ML is your typical black... more>> bellied CEO. He's patient, manipulative... and twisted.

All I want to say is give this book a chance for at least 10 chapters. This is comedy so throw your brain out and enjoy the ride. Sometimes we need a book just to amused ourselves. <<less

A story of a musical talent who transmigrates into the body of young single mother on the verge of seducing the future novel ML's father into marriage and becoming the villainous step mother. Her reaction is hilarious. Basically she just goes, "shit, run."

She's vain, colorful, as I said hilarious and for a woman whose never had a child to step up and basically take on working multiple jobs to raise her insta son all by herself, she's the definition of hero. She's also a very polarizing character. She isn't perfect... more>> and doesn't always conform to your expectation of a mother or FL in a romance novel. You will either like her or hate her. And that feeling will influence how you feel about the rest of this story.

If you can stick around to the end, you will get one of the most interesting, satisfying and heart breaking explanations for a transmigration Ive ever found in one of these stories. You'll also get to enjoy two adorable little boys and an ML who is the template for the overbearing father who always manipulates the ML to "make him strong."

Spoiler

One of the main reasons our MC is so leery of her ML is because in the novel he uses her and her son's ambitions as a whetting stone to sharpen his own son into a "capable" person. :/ And that aspect of his character doesn't just conveniently go away. But our FL builds and engages in their relationship to create a dynamic where using her or either of their sons that way just wont happen.

The romance isnt the most satisfying. It works and has some sweet moments. The main draw that keeps me rereading this novel is our MC's journey to claim first her son, than her family and finally her life.

[collapse]

If you don't mind the ending being spoiled, this is why I like it:

Spoiler

She didnt transmigrate. She grew up her whole life with memories of her previous life. She realized at the point of seducing the ML that she had read a book in her previous life with this exact plot. Which meant instead of creating an easier life for her and her son by seducing the ML she was following a path of destruction. Losing her husband (who was her childhood sweetheart) destroyed her, but she kept working to raise their son. She even plotted to get a rich second husband just so her son could have a better life. The shock of realizing her life is a novel with a bad end for her and her son was one shock too many. Due to extreme traumatic stress she forgot her current life and escaped into her previous life memories. She views any memories of the current life from the perspective of someone who didn't live it. We learn all this when her previously believed to be dead husband returns and explains their past. She now knows the current life's memories are hers but they are still distant from her-including her love for her previous husband. Probably cause the author didnt want that to threaten her love for the ML.

Its not a transmigration novel. Its a reincarnation traumatic amnesia novel.

[collapse]

I recommend if you enjoy transmigrating child rearing novels with a slice of life pace and a somewhat spazzy MC who is completely the template for the spazzy mother-in-law who "adopts the FL as her pet/friend/daughter" thats fun to read in other romantic stories. <<less

i honestly think this is one of my favourite novels? Every time I read it I enjoy myself.

the FL is so silly (as she should be — she was 20 when she transmigrated and suddenly she has a child? You can’t expect her to be the most mature person ever)

and she’s very gullible as well and plays right in to the ML’s schemes. He’s a blackbelly but in a really funny way LOL. And they’re interactions are actually so funny.

you can’t take this novel seriously. It’s not meant for... more>> that. It’s just light hearted humour with some cute children, a silly mum, and a cunning dad. <<less

Spoiler

the MC didn’t really mean it when she said she wanted to avoid the ML at all costs. I’m so fed up with her saying the same lame excuse so-i-didn’t-have-a-choice over and over again. Gurl, yes you had a choice! You could’ve always stood your ground ignored the dude cuz nobody’s entitled of your time and consideration, but nope.. U just “didn’t have the choice..” because the ML looked angry and scary or whtvr! Just admit that u really wanted to follow him into his car damn it..

also, she kept on repeating about how the “little male lead” would cause her imprisonment sometime in the future and so she better run away from him yet, she doesn’t stick to her agenda of backing off anyway.. She says she couldn’t help herself but be drawn to the kid as he looked so cute. Psh weak. I mean, if u truly wanna avoid the father and son duo, you could always be indifferent towards them and just focus on raising ur kid! No one’s gonna blame u cuz they might cause u and ur child’s life!

i hate that she doesn’t stay true to her words.. I was expecting a strong-willed MC who dgaf about the ML and his son but sadly, I didn’t get that. So, nope, this one’s not for me.

[collapse]

maybe it’d get better in the later chapters? Idk.. But i’m not here to stay anymore. Great translation tho! Otherwise, i’d only give this story two stars at most.. <<less

Definitely one of my favorites! Oh my gosh, I don't even know where to start on how cute the little kiddos are! I feel so so SOOOOOOOO envious of MC. The little kiddos are so clingy to her and I wish I was the one who transmigrated. Having those little cuties as my little kiddies is the dream!

I also found it quite funny on how narcissistic MC is. And the people surrounding her all knows and just indulges her, it's so cute! Although, MC is kind of clumsy (?) or... more>> like her plans are not the type you would actually think or plan to do but I forget her idiosyncrasies especially when I see her interact with the kids and ML. It's so funny and cute! I love how both the kiddos are so in sync together now. And I especially love how little male lead has become just like the mother and son. They are all such foodies HAHAHA! Even ML (father) was shocked at how his son is so much like them. And with that, I also feel envious of ML. How does it feel to have 3 people look at him with those sparkly eyes full of expectations and adoration? Awwe! So dayum cute <3

I really wish I could binge read this until the end but I could only wait for the translations and support the translator. I will not MTL this, it's too precious. I want to read it in understandable english. Welp, I did try because I was so excited for the next chapters. It's the much awaited sleepover! But I gave it up because I didn't want to ruin my reading experience on this.

Huhuhu, really dudes, this is literally the cutest read. It's light and funny! I give it 5 stars because it entertained me so much HAHAHA!

I especially liked how stubborn and oblivious-ish the MC is towards ML's advances. Although, there are stuff here that is not a good example to do in real life such as leaving a child unattended in a car even for just a moment. But as long as we readers understand to not do this, then it's okay!

I wish to read moreeee. Translator-sama is it okay if it's updated everyday? *Insert puppy dog eyes <<less

I liked the basic plotline of this book and I still intend to continue reading this book even though I have a major problem with the FL. She is such an annoying character. For one, she is irresponsible, and while we might ascribe that to youthful s*upidity, she lacks a backbone, and she is a bit too indecisive. On the other hand, I like the fact that she doesn't just fit into the original character's life. It's realistic. But she needs to learn to make decisions and stand firm on... more>> them, at least in regards to the ML. I think her character needs a lot of growing up and I hope we get to see that at some point in the book. <<less

My original rating would be 4.25 so I would've gone fore a 4 but this novel has surprisingly low ratings over here. I mean, sure, this isn't the best novel out there but I like how some aspects are dealt in a more realistic way. Some side characters, like the original villainous mother and her husband are portrayed as individuals with multiple layers and not just cardboard cutouts. That had given me more expectations toward the portrayals of our main characters, but I was quite disappointed. Well, we're not that... more>> many chapters into the actual novel (maybe ch20~30). So, I guess we have a lot more to see before this becomes complete. That's one of the reasons why I paused in the middle. I'll restart once this is complete. I recommend this since the characters are quite refreshing amd have a lot of depth. Plus, unlike similar novels where the MC immediately become all motherly, here we see the MC not feeling her maternal instincts instantly. Rather she is apprehensive about her own role and learns things little by little. I think it's important to show something like this because you don't instantly become a good parent; there's a lot of trial and error involved. I felt that the author handled this issue in a realistic way rather than an "ideal" way.

TL;DR: Give this a try. It's pretty good. <<less

The MC is not a genius, peerless talent. She is not some divine doctor, godly musician, or five-star chef. She is just a normal person who got transmigrated into a book (sometimes I think that if I got transmigrated into a book, I would most definitely be like her).

The story itself is very light. It involves heart-warming child-raising and romance.

Spoiler

It's about Yan Shuyu who became the mother of a villain after she got transmigrated into a book. In the original novel, she will married the Boss and become the stepmother of the MC. Her son (the villain) is ambitious and compete over everything with the MC including the Boss' company, and she will be the evil stepmother who mistreat the MC. Well, turns out the Boss only married her to make her and her son (the villain) a whetstone for the MC growth. The MC will bring revenge and doom onto her and her son.

Yan Shuyu transmigrated after she just had an one night stand with the boss. After learning the end of the original plot. She tried everything to avoid the boss, including quitting her job. The funny part is she always fails and only ends up making the Boss get more interested in her.

[collapse]

The story is mostly a comedy. Some hate the MC's character because she is s*upid and shallow, BUT THAT'S THE FUNNY PART. She is very easygoing and not a very responsible mother either. But hey, what can you expect from a teenage girl who suddenly transmigrated and turn into a mother?! (Even though I have to say that I am also somewhat disappointed in how irresponsible she is in raising the instant son)

What I like the most from this story is probably the son and the ML's son. Both are very cute and soothing hahaha.
Spoiler

I especially like how the son knows that his mom is an idiot but still get along with it. It is also cute how the ML's son is kinda attached to our MC. The MC doesn't even realize that she has charmed the ML's son LOL

[collapse]

The ML is very gentlemanly, unlike most of the tyrant CEOs. It seems like he is a very scheming man and only see others for his benefit, but I hope that he will come to like our MC wholeheartly. <<less

im tired of godly/ super skillful who-knows how-to-do-verbal kung fu women transmigration as of late. Like only those who have super op skill can be chosen to transmigrate.

What I like about this story is that shes silly, (but not shoujoish silly if you know what I mean), funny gal, relatable MC.

This series could be developed as heartwarming story about family-making. It also has the potential to be a fiery romance between single dad and single mom with kids. Unfortunately, potential remains potential as the writing has never got in-depth. It's cute, but always only touching the surface. Like, everything that I want to happen on-screen, happened off-screen instead.

Spoiler

Here we have little social butterfly (FL's son) that is eloquent, smart, and too reserved for his own age. We have little young master (ML's son) that is shy but slowly becoming more open. We have ML who is so busy with work, almost never seen child-rearing, but (as the narration says) he is actually better at educating and treats both kids equally. And lastly, we also have FL who is kind, beautiful, and hardworking, but slightly partial in treating the kids and has paranoia about future events.

Imagine if we get full exploration of their personal struggles, how they fix the problems, and what kind of influence that this new relationship give to each of them?? Think about how amazing it would be. However, like I said before, those things most likely happened off-screen. Here some points:

  • The narration is done from FL's side, so ML's view and feeling is very underexplored. Has he forgiven her for what she did to him at the night of pleasure, or never taken it to heart at first place? (The latter kinda weird but okay) Is he interested in her only because she ran away? Does he decide to pursue her because she's interesting or because he's falling in love? We as the reader kinda predict what he feels (because we have vast experiences in reading novels), but those things has never been confirmed inside the paragraph. Not to mention, the ML is away for business trip for like 60% of the story.
  • FL keeps talking about monetary value of everything. I get it that she is so poor and all, but can we talk about sincerity for once or twice? She accepts ML's body, ML's pursuit, gift, housing, and daily necessities provided by him. However I can't just sense a hint of gratitude. At this point, she is still scared of future events regardless his efforts.
  • The almost non-existent heart-to-heart talk.
[collapse]

Overall, I am entertained but so far I'm not feeling emotionally attached to the story.

Translation quality is good, though. This review is solely based on the novel, not the translation. <<less
