The day a mysterious darkness enshrouded the world. It was theorized that the earth’s magnetic field had been changed, the data that corresponded to it also changed. The previous academic knowledge had been overturned, and numerous things had to be re-explored.

The science that humanity was familiar with had been disrupted, including the genes of human beings. One of the largest disasters brought by the change was that 80% of humanity transformed into zombies. After years of struggling, a few lucky survivors would evolve and awaken a power inside themselves. Chu Han was never that lucky.

While holding on against the first wave, humans weren’t the only ones getting stronger. Soon, stage 1 zombies evolved into stage 2 then 3 and so on. 10 years after the mysterious meltdown, the world of man belonged to the zombies. Humanity was nearing the of the end of the eschatology.

One day, Chu Han consciousness came back ten years before the end of the world came. He was awakened by a loud noise in a dormitory in Minqiu University. With only 1 day to prepare before the meltdown begins, he slowly begins to realised that he had undergone a rebirth. A power was awaking inside of him now despite never appearing in the hellish future. It calls itself the meltdown system.

Despite losing the monstrous strength gained through years of harsh training, this system claims to trade kills for talents. This is a story of a collapsing world, a meltdown system, and Chu Han being on stage as he travels to save those he could not save before.

The story is good, the MC have good conscience for humanity and toward females. He doesn't play with every female he comes across and have filial piety, but not some weak cowards. He have cheats too, but not too much. Overall it's quite good for me..

The story is full of loopholes. Although the author tried his best to make create the world setting but it's full of nonsense. The system is also imperfect.

About the system.

Spoiler

there is no mention of system details. Only point earned by killing zombie and strengthen. No concrete amount or precise skills are mentioned. There are lots skill but mentioned and used are probably 3-4

World setting

Spoiler

mysterious household or hidden family are aliens. They have ufo and alien weapon. But the world only has helicopter.

Like seriously where'sthe tank gone to?? How do you war without tanks?! Well magnetic disturbence doesn't have anything to do with modern war vehicles. No mention of jets or why they do not work?. I mean seriously just drop some nuke will you... and zombie are damn finished. Assesment monolith appeared but nobody is curious about their origin. Even if all electronic divice doesn't work then how does the helicopter works.

I want to read it further before writing a review but translation is so bad. Like garbage-tier. Since TL is a part of the novel, I should review them together as a whole. And, to be honest, the author's writing is not better.

Some cons I can write down already:
- Over-detailed zombies descriptions. The author loves to describe all kinds of rotten fluids, how MC taste them occasionally, how they smell, and so on. Yeah, I understand, they are nasty. There is no meaning in repeating it so often.
-... more>> MC behaves illogically. He was reincarnated back in time. He survived for 10 years without cheats after the apocalypse beginning. Yet, all he does is make irrational decisions and act edgy.
- Сompressed expositions after switching the POV. This is the biggest problem for now. After switching the POV, the author tells us some absolute minimum and returns back to the MC's POV soon after.
There was a guy in the dorm that was left alone while zombies were banging on the window. The author told about it and returned back to the MC's POV. Soon after he told us about two girls in the same dorm and just returned back again. Very brief, no details, meaningless quick expositions. It makes no sense.
Spoiler

There was some especially bad moment when the author told about the guy that forcibly kept people at the gas station and r*ped a few girls. The author spent just a few sentences to make that exposition!
First, just a couple of days have passed since the start of the zombie apocalypse. I doubt social order will crumble that fast. It was too abrupt, where is the transition process? It stretches suspension of disbelief to the limit.
Second, a few sentences are not enough to make me care about events and characters. It felt like some obligatory information or info-dump and not like a proper narration.

[collapse]
- Flawed setting. Electronic devices are no more but cars are working. Modern cars have lots of electrical systems that control the engine inside. You can't even start the car without them. In this case, the only car you can use is probably some older model diesel vehicle that lacks electronics.
- Irrational characters.
Spoiler

The psycho little killer girl made me drop it. I can't swallow this bs at the start of the novel.

[collapse]

Avoid it. If you want a zombie apocalypse novel go read God and Devil World or anything but this Scatology. <<less

Starts nice, but soon shows it's true face: Just another bad Chinese novel. Problems that could be solved instantly are left unresolved for the sake of artificial drama.

Example: ... more>>
Spoiler

This just happens around chapter 20. There's a zombie horde coming, there's a rapist mu*derer near MC with obvious ill intent against him and everyone around him. MC doesn't kill him then and there but leaves him alive while MC is busy fighting zombies. He is obviously betrayed during the fight. Oh no, who could have expected such an outcome! This is just a setup so MC can show his cool abilities later, but the setup is so dumb the pay off falls flat on it's face and has a stroke.

Translation is also atrocious at times. <<less

Took this novel for a spin and wow was it a let down or what?

The story pretty much instantly throws the MC into the zombie apocalypse and follows the almost standard CH webnovel tropes of the MC is the most hyped person ever. Even when the MC is dumber then a brick everyone else is simply even dumber so as to portray the MC as being smart.

This is also the novel with highest amount of bull I have probably ever read, the author also loves to do things or point... more>> at things only to make it useless or whatnot right after.

Some spoilers,
Spoiler

A small thing but still a bit forced is the fact that 80% of humanity is turned into zombies, but anyone even slightly related to the MC whether a friend, family, enemy or hell even a guest lecturer at his school has 0% infection.

Humans don't start to evolve until three months of the zombie infestation has passed, 1 month later there are a bunch of level 1, 2 and 3 evolved humans, while MC is level 1, after just 2 months almost everyone is a level 1 or 2 evolved human.

Small things like the MC forcing everyone to live in a hostel filled with zombies to hide in their stench only to some chapters later the MC smashing the window of a place with a human corpse (which almost instantly gathers zombies) so he can get "fresh air" and appear cool.

To the author constantly mention that the MC evolves the fastest and no one will grow stronger faster then him because of the system to only the next chapters introduce a bunch of people who are all stronger then the MC.

Or the author constantly mention that almost no technology works except for radios. So communication is almost impossible, especially since almost no one can travel across the zombie infested world. To write a chapter were the "bad guys" turns up and then spends 1-2 chapters simply talking about all the MC's exploits and conquering of the most beautiful and strongest girls in the army. While everyone in the town who has been hiding there since the 2-3 months since the zombie outbreak knows exactly who the girls are and are all fanboys, since everyone has somehow gotten a hold of pictures and information about them, who becomes pissed when it turns out they all love the MC.

Oh and yeah of course the author had just mentioned how badass and OP the MC is being able to evolve faster then everyone else because of the system (he's at lvl 2) but the bad guy that shows up is already lvl 4. But fear not the author gives a lengthy explanation that the bad guy is a hybrid and spends at least half a chapter explaining that a hybrid is a human cannibal that can control zombies but has to hide their features since they no longer look like humans, but in turn they have lost all they can't become of have lost all their evolved powers so their actually weak outside of controlling zombies.

ZOINK next chapter the Hybrids are stronger, faster and tougher then the MC and able to use some kind of force (telekinesis?) to make the MC suffocate, their also experts at infiltrating humans settlements without being detected. So in short after wasting almost a whole chapter we instead find out that the hybrids are stronger, faster, tougher, can control zombies and use superpowers after eating human meat, on top of that they have an information network that is better than all the worlds secret police, information bureaus, detectives, reporters and what not combined. Dang I am surprised that not everyone turns into a cannibal. The only real negative part (except being cannibals of course and becoming pale to a sickly degree) is that they can't enter randomly appearing stone towers who's only reason of existence is to show a power ranking of the worlds strongest after they fight in virtual simulations, damn not being on the list must really hurt.

[collapse]

In short the story is fairly badly written both in term of plot and how the author constantly makes things up/changes things along the way without a care for previous world building or setting. But also in the way that the story for me at least feels extremely forced a lot of the time, one point in particular I can mention is the introduction of a side character who's sole purpose is to be beaten up and humiliated by the MC almost all the time since it's introduction so to bring what I guess to be humor to the story.

Also the filler is real, like really really real as the filler is everywhere and has no purpose except for word-count so that the author can like me extend one word into a lengthy sentence. <<less

The story planning is good, but execution is bad. The story has a great, ambitious plan, but ultimately it failed to create a good storytelling or plot progression. There are a lot of long-lengthy side stories which eventually bored out the reader. You can expect the MC's airtime to be less than 40% of the novel, because author will often lost himself in a large side-story arc, in which the MC doesn't have a role in that arc.

The romance is there, but there aren't many scenes between them. Mostly are... more>> overshadowed by the plot itself. Ultimately, this novel ended in rush-ending. Everything is resolve in 2 chapters out of nowhere. <<less

Typical Chinese novel

  1. very good start with lots of potential.
  2. MC with no clear personality
  3. Too much fillers (like seriously too much fillers)
  4. Chaotic plot. (One time MC is doing this then he suddenly switches to something else.)
Note : I always get the feeling that the author had no clear plot in his mind when he started writing. He just keeps making them up as he goes.

Truly bad MC says he is going to save his parents but stop at every single location and even change his course doing side missions, also people act like beasts after just 1 day since the zombie show up.

Side characters are very annyoing and the system the MC got is the most generic type ever like playing a terrible MMO that keeps telling you to kill 200 monsters to get a skill and thats the only quest you ever get.

So this is pretty bad. Many of the characters feel one dimensional even compared to other chinese web novels, but i'll compare it to God and Devil World since it resembles it in premise.

Both are zombie apocalypse web novels starting out. GDW tries to be interesting while revealing the dark side of humanity, it does this well. This novel does the opposite. Dark side of humanity then make it interesting.

It's bland because it seems that the author relies on this to an extreme degree. Most of the men in the... more>> novel are a**holes unless they join the MC. Most of the women so far are pretty much glorify trophies.

Most major conflicts are with other humans instead of zombies. Every group the MC comes across is an enemy. To be completely honest, the MC wastes a lot of time on solving minor problems due to these side characters. Many of them are repeats and this is within the first one hundred chapters.

Most of the side characters are antagonists or small fry. The plot reads like close a year since the apocalyse and not just after the outbreak.

MC's personality is also really inconsistent and vague. He lived for ten years into the apocalypse and I really felt that he should've smart enough tell whether or not a person has bad intentions or not, but nope he goes brain dead for the sake of advancing the plot. There are also scenes where he's ruthless as hell, which is nice, but then that also goes back to my previous point.

The novel also does the zombie apocalypse a completely and utterly terrible job. Zombies have good hearing, decides to drive a car around. It's loud and noisy and should attract zombies but nothing. Also the roads are mysteriously empty with no totaled cars on them at all, especially since it states early on that people are thrown in an coma for six hours.

tl;dr: World building is broken multiple times. MC is over glorify as top male of the novel world. He also has inconsistent personality.

Go read God and Devil World, it's this but it's better and does a of things that this one gets wrong right. <<less

Cons:

  • Standard second chance basis
  • Semi formulaic interactions with new characters
  • Not enough development on the MCs ability system (not full explained, doesnt seem it will be but I digress)
  • Short chapters
  • MC can feel a little jesus kun when hes not meeting a significant challenge
I started with the cons because I feel that theyre really nitpicky and they dont really take away from my enjoyment of the story

Pro

  • Reincarnation knowledge doesnt really come into play, itll let him have hints on what he can do in a certain situation but its usually used as a plot device to get the character going in a certain direction that he still has to figure out.
  • World building is works very well, each city or place the story goes to feels grounded and believeable
  • Main characters are likeable even though originally they felt a little copy paste
  • MC is consistent, has a goal that may not be a main driving elemeny of the story but still gives him a place to reach after each little arc (arc may be a bit generous though)
Overall its really entertaining and has some minor foreshadowing and some blatant expositing for future elements but remains intriguing. May have been a bit much to write but wanted to get it right for people wanting to read it.

Happy New Year :)

It's just soooo bad.

I don't know why but I ignored the top level review and trusted the ones that said this story is good and that the plot's super deep and it'll all pay off later. I regret doing that.

The Author tries to make the MC this badass anti-hero type but he just comes off as an unlikeable ret*rd. I cannot emphasize enough how s*upid and unlikeable this MC is. At first he tries to be this weird pacifist kind where he only kills when absolutely necessary, then flips and... more>> kills people whenever??? Spoiler below from very first few chapters, I'd advise reading it.

Spoiler

MC doesn't even kill a dude when he tried to mu*der the MC several times and mu*dered a woman (his partner?) in front of him just because he was frustrated. We then go through a whole expose of him casually r*ping all the women in his "shelter" and wanting to mu*der a kid. Then MC does a 'surprised pikachu face' when the bad guy f*cking tossed a child into a horde of zombies out of jealousy (wut???).

[collapse]

Sorry if my grammar's a bit wonky, I'm just super pissed about having read so much of this garbage. There are numerous similar scenes like the spoiler across all I've read so far.

Please, for the sake of your brain cells. Don't read this. <<less

It has an interesting premise, but that's it. Tasks which were difficult for the MC to handle become a walk in the park shortly after for no apparent reason. There's "villains" who pop up twenty minutes after the last one was taken care of who all have the IQ of a bent spoon. There are no neutral characters, at all, even the faceless masses start cursing the MC's ancestors the minute he stops wiping their ***es.

I have seriously enjoyed the novel! And I’m quite annoyed that people are complaining when they have only read 20 so chapters! I, while a bit disappointed and confused with the editing job in the first 20-so chapters, spent an entire day reading the novel to its current chapter. I love this novel While a bit slow at the start it has a strange pace that makes one want to continue reading! The plot is quite good and while I do enjoy a crazy MC, this novel brings out a... more>> unique balance in the changes that would likely occur in such circumstances. It also brings out the nature of humans perfectly whether the positive sides or the negative! And you just get to enjoy the pace of a young man searching for his parents! I loved the story and I look forward to reading more!!!! Even if one is slightly disappointed you can’t help but read on as you see him push through with the determination and will to save his parents. Going as far as avoiding close relationships with all the women near him (which isn’t actually a lot to my surprise!) ! Overall people should give this novel a chance! It has great potential and most would surely enjoy it! <<less

As far as I read from the translated chapter the story lacks creativity with their bad guy design

Spoiler

you can really see how the author seems to be pulling them out of a template

  • did he mock the protagonist? If yes add +1 to bad guy
  • is he underestimating him although he had seen how fine he looks even after the apocalypse? If yes add +1 to bad guy
  • does he start to consider raping heroines after he decides to attack MC? If yes add +1 to bad guy
  • does he make obviously bad choices? If yes add +1 to bad guy
[collapse]

Further more the author seems to want to sell the side characters as completely faithful however it sometimes feels like brain-washing

Spoiler

the author mentions a couple of times how the protagonists companions at one point start having blind faith in him. Particularly how the author specifically describes their thought process "Seeing is not believing, but believing in Chu Han is right." (from chapter 279). They agree to doing thing that seem obviously bad, although the protagonist had his reasons but they didn't know them and instead of choosing to express their opinion choose to stay quiet even though he could be wrong.

[collapse]

He also puts himself in unnecessary trouble just because he doesn't share his thought process.

Spoiler

This mostly happens when the MC meets another character with 1% of his arrogance so he decides to humiliate them, although it was fine the first time but it quickly became repetitive after the 3rd time.

[collapse]

After reading a while it feels as if the chapters are repeating and it becomes a chore to read. The flow is basically MC finds a survivors' base while pretending to be weak, meets a couple of human beings with morals, finds a strong person with bad personality, strong as***le provokes or is provoked by MC, strong as***le gets nearly killed by MC, zombie wave appears, he kills all the zombies, everyone in the base loves him now and hates strong as***le, MC kills strong as***le. Rinse and repeat with small differences in back stories and locations. <<less

If you liked GDW but hated when it turned into cringey, racist, tripe, as of the parts where I've read this seems to be the story for you. The MC is pretty par for the course but gets the same by the MC in "Girl, I'll teach you how to cultivate" gets in that he was always that way and only happens to have been sent back in time back. (He's honestly sometimes even a little endearing when the author gives him proper anti-hero/magnificent bast**d moments)

The harem hasn't ballooned... more>> past manageable proportions and its members are more than just trophy's for the author to give the MC for being such a "man's*eyeroll* man".

The plot actually seems to be going somewhere interesting instead of being an endless saga about how an awesome MC singlehandedly saves a surprisingly monotonous post-apocalyptic hellscape world with his merry band of useless cardboard cutouts.

Also as of yet, its looking like they're going with the angle of a secret emerging cultivator/hidden nobility society instead of doing the whole derpy- "china is great (but I am greater) and the those wily, wicked, Japanese and other foreigners need to learn their place" -route that GDW decided to set aside what little plot it had to tackle.

Yes, its a bit too f***king edgy but this is a gamelit (the rpg elements are soft at best) post-apocalyptic fic, if you're reading this for feel good vibes or hoping for some chicken soup for the soul, high-octane action set against a backdrop of the despair that comes with the destruction of all civilization is pretty much what was always going to be on the menu.

All in all, I'm liking it so far.

It's not perfect but its not bad at all. In fact its pretty good, all things considered. <<less

I think this novel is the best apocalypse story, because MC, apocalypse background, tools and powerness in the novel is very different with another apocalypse story

Usually, the MC's weapon is about sword and gun but here is using axe, that's so amazing

Here's my cliché checklist, it should be enough to justify this low score.

- Arrogant young masters.

- Braindead villains.

... more>> - Women with powerful backgrounds around the MC.

- Fat sidekick who's also a yes-man.

- Women b*tches that aren't part of the MC's harem.

- Tryhard "cold-hearted" MC but inconsistent and even the emotional fluctuations feels forced most of the time.

- Greatly exaggerated words to describe everything the MC does no matter how anticlimatic it is just so he can appear like some badass character.

--

Decent novel to read as long as you can swallow all the bad things about it, but it also doesn't have much of a pulling factor to make you want to keep on reading for more than a thousand chapters. <<less

It's a fun novel, but a terribly written one TBH. The MC gets magic system powers for no reason, and doesn't seem to care about it. The MC at one point talks about using his powers to upgrade subordinates... and that's forgotten and never used. The MC at one point is supposed to get credit for subordinate's kills for his system... and that's forgotten. The plot meanders and never goes anywhere. At one point they ditch all the fun and interesting characters you've met and start hanging out with a... more>> new crew. Why? Because the MC didn't want them to follow him. Literally just that; no other reason given.

It's fun and generally interesting though. There are a lot of unique ideas in this. The characters are generally interesting (though the MC does do a lot of the pointless "hide my power level" stuff that causes conflict that would easily have been avoided by showing off a bit). The villains aren't great, but the settings are diverse and interesting.

Overall 3/5; fun to pass the time, but not a gamechanging masterpiece by any measure. <<less

Honestly I want tobkeep reading this as I really like the premise/theme of the story. However, there are many inconsistencies with both thebcharacter and the story, and also a bunch of translation mistakes. There is also the harem which wasnt bad at the start as it wasnt forced but unsurprisingly girl characters keep getting added and their feelings are getting more forced and flat. Number one thing that I disliked however was that if you decided to think about anything that was written in the book, youd discover a plot/story... more>> hole or how s*upid it is to do something that they had done. Enemies are all literal r3tards too amd is one of the most forced/illogical ones I have ever read. I would keep reading though as again... I liked the story despite its crapiness, but the translation has been dropped for at least 2 years at this point, and I also know I will regret it as the story is starting to devolve at the point I dropped it <<less
