Boring goal. Okay character development for MC. But little to no side character development, and sparse interactions.

I'm okay with tons of patriarchy, but bad science, like genes coming from mainly father's side, irritates me. It's 50/50.. Bad author.

MC's goal is kind of weak (tiny spoiler)

Spoiler

Her Dao is to be able to shoulder a world where she can have an excellent kid.

Like others say, if you love gender benders, you might like this more. Personally I'm not huge on them.. I have gender bender trama steming from the cute boy on Prince of Tennis ending up being a girl, I've been emotionally scarred since. (I'm still salty about that) <<less

This is probably my favourite qidian novel, if not my favourite novel that I'm reading at the moment.

Some people say it's too slow paced, I think not. Some people say there's bearly any world building, I disagree. It doesn't give you the information about the world in a paragraph but instead you learn more about it as the MC grows up and the more she learns the more you know plus some more since we're readers.

The story starts from when Ling Lan was just born (actually from when she was... more>> still in the womb) so you get to see her growing stronger till shes eventually OP. It takes about 200 chapters for her to finally join the first men's military academy, and that's where the plot really gets interesting, well at least for me. But you have to read it all to understand what's going on. The best part is the chapters are really long and it updates daily.

Boss lan isn't so OP that she can beat everyone just people her age and weaker adults she's still far from being the strongest. And considering the fact she's been cultivating since she was in the womb, it would be disappointing if she wasn't some level of OP.

Spoiler

Whenever the scout academy had tournaments she would beat her opponent with one move, literally. In the recent chapters she's in another fight in her new school and I really hope she beats them in one move again, I'll be upset if she doesn't.

[collapse]

The side characters are great too, they all have some level of depth to them. Her team mates are really cute too and she always takes care of them that's why their all stronger then most kids their age and they all play a part in the team.

As for the romance it's pretty non-existent right now and it's not really a major part of the plot. The plot mainly focuses on Mecha, romance is just a plus.

I remember reading the first few chapters a while ago before becoming bored and dropping it. There where a few times I felt like dropping it too, but I stuck to it and I'm so glad I don't drop it again. I think what I found boring was the powering up and all the cultivating, some people like to see the process but I get bored easily and would rather just see the results. But I have to say it was so worth it and I now wait for the updates daily and would be upset if it didn't. <<less

Ling Lan gets connected to a learning space (system-ish) at the point of her death. She is then born as a baby far in the future, on a different technologically advanced planet. We get to follow her over a long period of time, as she grows up and disguises her true gender to be a part of the military. Along the way, she builds up friendships and trains hard to get stronger and stronger.

What do I think? Personally, I have a weakness for gender-benders and strong, dominant FLs who can... more>> carry their own weight. This has both.

Some things are questionable though. Not to the point of being unreadable, just a little rant.
Spoiler

It's very military focused, and it's very evident the author is Chinese due to certain mindsets they're brought up with. They also don't hesitate on making the enemy countries sound s*upid, for example in one arc, the commander kept shouting "Baka!" which is equivalent to "Dummy!" And that was the majority of a Japanese-speaking commander's vocabulary (but then again, it was probably the only word the author knew in Japanese.)
It's not a big deal in general, but I think most enemies in this story are portrayed as s*upid and very arrogant, instead of just normal humans who ended up just following orders of their superiors, like everybody else.

Our FL, while cool and domineering... sometimes just is entirely dislikable with the way she treats her members and friends. And I'm not talking about the absurd training regimens she gives them, where they train half to death. She isn't as sincere as them. She can easily throw away friendships she's made, except the few childhood friends she took in as a kid. And instead of friends, they're just minions. So it doesn't really feel like she has any equals, which is a little sad.

[collapse]

But in the end, I like it. Flaws and all. She has a lovely family, teachers, and everything is going great for her. She is constantly being plotted against, but in a very Mary Sue-like fashion she always ends up with the upper hand. I admire that she is very strong, and sometimes still gets reminded she's getting arrogant. I can recommend this novel. <<less

Expected something different but this was better than whatever I thought I was Walking into. The MC is the best the all the other characters are grate and the romance is a slow burn but with everything going on you don't even miss it.

That doesn't mean the romance is bad, it grate. The relationship dynamic is unique and lovely, honestly I wish there were more romance novels with this kind of dynamic you just fall in love with the characters and so engrossed in the story, so give it a... more>> read !!!! <<less

Despite having minor complaints, this novel is too enjoyable

If u love a story filled with adventures, exciting fights, leveling up, a witty female MC who is one step ahead of the antagonists, calm, collected, mature, ruthless but not heartless, not a saint but also not a villain, has best friends (more like followers lmao), is OP, has a doting dad who is head over heels for her, then this story is for you. I love whenever they go on missions.. It's too exciting

The only major complaint I have is, she's... more>> too cold for my heart T^T.. And I'd love to see them having a best friends kinda relationship and not a boss-follower relationship. Also she's too overbearing.. Sometimes she does whatever, irrespective of morals to get what she wants and I don't like this trait of her.. Also she went on too long with her identity as a man that it feels it's almost impossible for her to live as a woman now sigh.. Initially I was relieved that there is no romance drama sh*t but in the later chaps there is so much love triangle bs going on smh.. I wish the romance was just simple without all these schemes. Idk how to feel bout LLF now.. Anyways, this is an exciting novel overall <<less

Petty good story, like many had said all events are well connected. Plots can be pretty slow, not sure how this whole story is going to end. Romance is not the main focus of the story which is something I liked. Side note: the manga isnt too bad too.

While waiting for the story to continue, I had reread the whole story from front to back.

MTLs might get alittle bit sketchy to be honest. Unless you are used to it. So waiting for english translated chapters are worthwhile.

This is a novel that you will love everything about. From the amazing plot, the world building, the camaraderie, the reasoning and common sense of the world will just reel you in and keep you wanting for more.

It's not even an exaggeration to say that this is my top favorite novel! I got so invested to the all the characters here.

The female lead (ling lan) you will love her and everything she stands for! While reading this you will want to cheer for her to succeed including all her sworn... more>> brothers and sisters. Every victory and defeat the FL and her friends have you will feel it in your bones. It was like you were also a soldier and with them.

Update: I forgot to add but there are not some good things about other countries, I don't know the word. But it is making out all others (not themselves) /the enemies out to be all bad and had referenced a different country as the bad guys.

I kind of just brushed passed it or just ignored it. But it will be deal breakers for other readers (it will be difficult for others to read, it will anger ppl too) .

New/last? Edit:

I left this and randomly remembered this and I had mainly remember the stuff I hated but not the stuff I liked. I realized there are more cons than pros for me so I will give up reading this. I also decided the score needs to be lowered since ppl over rate this. I read this bc ppl gave it 5 or 4 stars. I think this just a read if you have nothing else and not to have expectations for this. There were good parts but more bad parts for me.

I give up reading this. <<less

Being the first CN novel I ever really got attached to, I definitely am biased towards INEBM. I'm a little surprised to find I hadn't reviewed this; it was one of the novels I'd check every day for new translated chapters, from way back when I first started reading it in late 2019.

But, although I love it (personal rating: 4.5 stars), in light of its (rather numerous) flaws, I'll rate it as a "pretty good" (4 stars) instead. It's a slow, unique novel that has many strengths and shortcomings.

Review:

Characters/Plot/Premise: Pretty... more>> Good 4/5

Spoiler

The best part of this novel is the MC, who is a pretty well done FL that toughens and changes throughout the course of the story. Her personality and motives are totally different at chapter 1000 compared to the MC of chapter 1, after going through the events of the story. Her character later on becomes something of a "tiger mom" (strict, domineering, training fiend) for her teammates, although portrayed in a good way, as she's supposed to know their optimal development paths and guide them. I have slightly mixed feelings about her later character, although I'm glad she's not static like so many other MCs.

The novel itself centers around the MC, a former modern terminal illness patient, reborn into a military family conflict to a widowed mother, with the circumstances of her father's disappearance/death looming over her. Due to the conflict, she is forced to pretend to be male.

The MC has cheats of her own: a 'learning space', a mental space inside MC which houses the AI Little Four and other functions to buff her strength, although she has to work hard for said functions to benefit her.

She later goes to school, in the process building her own group of people, all youths around her biological age, which gradually turn into a well-rounded team led by our MC. Each member has their own histories, strengths, personalities, and character arcs (family drama included).

The plot itself is not complex, but not a shuangwen-esque easy-time-with-my-cheats, ultra fast-paced strength gain either. The MC may improve faster than her peers, but also works hard and encounters difficulties, and so do the side characters and the ML, who work with her. There's some face-slapping too, if you're into that.

Biggest gripe plot-wise is that the novel is that it's still on hiatus, so many things I've waiting for for a long time (due to slowish plot progression), won't happen until author picks it up again ;-;. It's got many story developments that still need to be resolved. Maybe they never will be.

So yeah.

[collapse]

Romance (major spoilers in the spoiler container) : Not too bad, despite being slower than paint drying 4.5/5

Spoiler

It's late and slow, with the ML appearing more than 100 chapters in, and the (supposed) second ML appearing even later. (I say supposed, because there's zero romance between MC and second ML, so you probably don't know who the second ML even is)

For the record, I actually believe that the romance is pretty good; it's nice and gradual and shows the development of feelings. The ML is a manipulating yandere type, but isn't a pure yandere. He questions his internal thoughts and his decisions that monopolize the MC. He also has a certain amount of respect for the MC and is also genuinely afraid of having a bad relationship with her and breaking their balance of close friendship, as much as he desires an actual romance beyond unrequited love.

MC is a classic dense one. For one, she thinks everyone in her little squad thinks she's a guy, and also doesn't think they'd be romantically interested in her even if they were attracted to guys. She's the domineering leader-boss. She commands respect and fear, not love.

State of the Romance at the latest chapter I've read:

Spoiler

The romance, at the current latest raw, is unresolved. The MC is unaware of the the ML's feelings as romance, although she's showing some signs of falling for him. The ML, on the other hand, knows that he likes the MC, but still doesn't know MC's a girl pretending to be a guy. To show you exactly how late and slow the romance is, the first and only kiss scene isn't until after chapter 1400.

Worldbuilding/Setting: Ehhh... 3/5

Spoiler

The setting is not the strong suit of this novel, although the way politics was within the confines of a region is surprisingly good.

The story takes place in a sci-fi + mystical martial arts (think physical power stages with some supernatural effects) setting. But, it kinda fails on the sci-fi part. Unfortunately, 10000 years is a bit of a stretch for a transmigration, considering language remains relatively unchanged, and the intergalactic empires bear a strange resemblance to the current world, both things that probably would be completely different in even 1000 years. (I prefer to think she transmigrated to a parallel world)

How the human race (biologically) has changed: everyone matures quicker mentally as a child, physiques have improved, average appearance rating has gone up, average idiocy has (supposedly) gone down, and there's now a huge physique gap between guys and girls.

The mecha aspect and its interactions with the mystical martial arts aren't really explained very well - somehow mechas are still controlled via keyboard, even though there's already a full-dive virtual reality, and AIs have evolved pretty well. Speaking of virtual reality, there's the virtual space - a neat world that's pretty much a second life, where the MC goes for training during school. Everything inside is simulated, so you can't die. (Although, apparently specters [read: technomancers] can kill people if they try hard.) Uhh, but you still need to buy things, and hackers and specters can manipulate the reality in the virtual space. It's... not exactly the most foolproof idea.

Still, the novel's inner politics and military are done pretty well. Thee author's decision to model the various intergalactic governments after real-life countries (Huaxia = China, Caesar = Western world, Twilight = Japan) is rather bad, but that should be categorized as non-inner politics. There's infighting within the Huaxia Federation, from faction to faction, and conflicts between the Federation's factions and other governments. The MC will participate in wars, eventually.

Addressing nationalism: I don't think it's as serious in this novel, as it's not mentioned on every turn. The other countries only pop up to be despicable and dumb every 600 chapters or so for an arc, and not for very long, and pretty easily skippable if you don't like it. The most annoying thing was the author's imitation Japanese IMO, present for like 4 chapters total. And it's not like the author's a die-hard fan of the Federation, either. It's depicted as a powerful state, but always in discord due to power struggles; it's pretty clear that there are equally despicable characters from the Federation, and the MC herself realizes that the Federation as a whole is not exactly the best, nor does she always support its actions.

[collapse]

Translation: 5/5 - Webnovel did a good job with this one. Mostly paywalled though, oh well.

TLDR: Nice for a light read, but there are annoying inconsistencies in the world logic (*cough*like any sci-fi with mechas*cough*). Nationalism, but IMO it's not too bad. Super late romance. <<less

These story is the best, I'm already repeat reading it.... this novel should be read... Although I may seen some harsh review, of course they would be because much of them was not read all the chapter or they just skip it, because the story plot is really complicated, if you skip some chapter you may not understand it... When I first read it, I'm skip so don't know what happen to the ml

The develope of the character is splendid. As we know the MC disguise herself and she do... more>> have cheat system, but these novel still give natural develope of the MC by the instructor, I'm really love how she built her mecha team and her other subordinates

about ml

he is scheming and shameless, hahaha... he can be pretty shameless with the MC, their relationship is so funny, as we know their friend know the MC as a male so the ML is already thought to sacrifice his self by think he should be the uke, so the way of he seduce the MC is how a gay (uke) seduce their seme, it was so funny to read how the dumbfounded the MC will be... Their relationship is kinda slow, but patience is waht make it perfect because to me I don't fancy the easy way relationship... Their relationship really do take time because ML is not someone that perfect from the beginning of the story.. overall, I really do love the ml, he is sweet when it come to the mc

the plot of the story is about family, friend, school, a soldier, politic and war... The harsh time is when it about politic... The most sad time is when the MC lost her friend and family (I'm really cry this time) but I don't know what will happen in the future because still wait for the update <<less

This is by far one of my novels I look forward to reading everyday. Like I could binge read this kind of novels for days although I do it basically for all my novels too umm yeahh... but still really love this novel. The novel is immaculate. The MC I love her. But its okay since everybody is... more>> different and the MC isn't ready so I shall patiently wait for her to grow.

There are times when after catching up with a novel, I don't know what to do with my life any more.

This is one of those times, and this feeling comes only after fantastic but also long novel, that you read day after day and immerse yourself into.

There is a lot good things going for this novel but if I will focus on the part where at this point in time (ch1115), the time that passes in the novel is already more than 20 years. In those 20 years, we follow... more>> our MC on her long life journey, filled with various events and also friends that she made along the way.

This is probably the best novel when it comes to MC and her group of friends progressing from early childhood into adulthood... all this time not only MC but main secondary characters also get a lot of development be it in their personal storyline or their powers.

Looking back at this novel, there are a lot of good things to say about it but just this feeling of being able to live through someone's life alongside other people was truly fantastic. This is to the point that right after catching up I feel like rereading again... which I something I never thought of doing when it comes to 1000+ chapter long novels. As I write this review, I might actually end up doing this because this novel is just that good in this regard.

The beginning part is little bit slow since, well MC is a baby at that point but, if anything I would suggest to read at least until the school arc begins.

Other than that, be it the title, or the genderbender tag might put some people of like it did me originally which is why I picked up this novel late. Still it's definitely worth a try. If anything, the fact that MC is actually a girl pretending to be a man is far from the main plotline of this story. <<less

I wonder why the MC is a girl. I was excited to see her being discovered by her classmates who might then doubted their sexuality, or the FL beating them for some accidental or embarassing situations. The FL developing some feelings... (the gender bender typical problems)

And I so disliked the instrustor who when she's 5 tell her that she shouldn't smile 'cause it'll be "too dangerous" in the futur (why?! T-T). She then put an aura and a ice personality that hide everything. Meh...

I got a bit satisfied with her "futur husband" 's (in my opinion) attitude but 1000 chapters passed and the love development is nearly inexistant. Through everytime there is one I became crazy immersed

Siplex has a pretty good review that I would like to add. The latest chapter is 1478 as of this review.

  1. Using a skill that uses wind to attack in outer space and succeeding. ??? I was like what???
  2. Mecha piloting Hand speed - using gaming terms for Mecha operations. This is not Starcraft nor a first person shooter. Author should have read the other Mecha stories out there that did a good job of a realistic mech. At least look at battletech or watch robotech. An oldie but a goodie showing Mecha combat.
  3. Science/cultivation DAO/special “magical” skills. Author really put everything and the kitchen sink. It kinda works but it is not cohesive since I don’t think the author actually set them up from beginning to end. Author throws things into the pot as the story goes.
  4. A military full of spies in high places and traitors who kill people who are better than them. How did the federation survive all this time? This is way too much and really makes me wonder how could there be any god operators with all these plots in the background. I mean you can get loyal solders to kill good guys as a secret mission.
  5. There are many such inconsistencies in the story that have you shaking your head
... more>>
Spoiler
  1. This is purely Mecha combat. Using planetary ground based combat moves in the air and outer space. I mean really. I don’t think the author contemplated on this at all. As a long time reader of sci-fi and fantasy as well as cultivation novels, this is really a head scratcher. Author needs to read or watch some space opera stories and anime to get the scope of the difference from planetary combat and outer space.
  2. Mecha piloting, God level pilots use direct connection to the mecha so..... hand speed has nothing to do with it. This part is just awful. At least keep hand speed in god level piloting so that it is consistent. The only part I can concede, body needs to be strong to survive the strong feedback. This part was good though I wonder why they say high level physical skills are useless now which is another inconsistency in the story. I would think a strong physical power will allow them to control the stronger mechs better.
  3. The tools of this world seem to be all over the place. The science and the way the author describes planets and sectors and what not don’t match up to the actual place. There are no planetary orbits. Planets just hang in place and does not seem to be orbiting a star. Author could have used an astronomer guide to make the story better. Also, black holes and wormholes are two different things. Cultivation and awakens skills tend to be a bit better but adding in spiritual power skills and DAO, it just seems to be all over the place. Nothing really meshes together.
  4. A military full of self serving but jobs and filled with spies in the high ranks, how did they survive so long. They could send out loyal solders to kill Ling Lan multiple times as a secret mission. Is it really easy to send solders on secret missions to kill people in the government or a little kid by just saying they are traitors that need to be killed??? This is the part that really got to me. This world would not be able to survive with all these self serving groups. Also, I would think at least the god class operators are smarter but they do nothing when one of their own is being plotted against, this really killed the mood for me. If these special interest/traitors/spies can even plot against a god class operator, how can this federation survive.
  5. Author should have done some research before creating this story. It’s fun but all these issues drops the enjoyment.
[collapse]

I do enjoy this story but the inconsistencies drops it from 5 to 3. This is just lazy no research writing. I even doubt the author has a break down of the cultivation, science, etc to keep the story within the rules of the story. <<less

This one has a great female lead, though it's a gender bender as she is pretending to be a boy. The MC dies and her souls gets transferred into the future. She was sickly and hospitalized her whole 1st life which related to her body not being strong enough to contain her spiritual energy. It follows her from infancy onward in a futuristic, militaristic world that includes space travel. I've read up to ch242 so far, she's a badass and tries her best in everything. Has a crew of bros/comrades... more>> she "leads" through school. It is a slow moving plot, but I'm totally into it! If you want a faster plot, scamper off young one!

There is a hint of potential romance, but it hasn't been realised as the other things she is a he. It's more of a great bond of "brotherhood" for now. Seems to have stopped being translated for now... also the main nove appears to be on hiatus. Moar plz! <<less
