You know, of course, there are going to be bad reviews and I get that. This is a novel with an unfathomably powerful main character, which is disliked by some and the only good novels for others. Except that this novel doesn't really deserve any bad reviews, because it is not only that simple of a novel. I won't go into details since others did, but just know that the things that are said in this novel hold an idea, a simple one, but a very uncommon one; "There are... more>> many ways things can be seen and done". It takes the idea that; if there is no absolute power, the system which was built to grant power isn't the only way to obtain such power. The leaching girl is only there for a short while and while, yes, I do believe she is the weak part of the novel, it's not that bad as she really doesn't do much.

Going to get a little spoiler-ish. We soon learn that the Main Character

has awakened

[collapse]
Yet, later in the novel, we realize that such individuals aren't that special and we get the idea that the protagonist isn't that outstanding, which would kind of take away the point of the novel, but in that same chapter (56), that idea is completely shattered and the novel, which should get boring after 50 or so chapters, become all the more interesting. Edit; I'm pissed, there always seems to be something preventing the translators from publishing. <<less

This..... is a honey trap.

The start, or prologue, is great. And then he leaves the tower.

What started as such a strong and unyielding MC became mired with endless philosophical crap that will make your head hurt from how hard you try to wrap your mind around it. It felt like a lecture you were tricked into going to, where you barely get the topic even after really trying to. There is no structure, hell, its all about tearing down the system, with a bit too much hitting close to home since it hints that real life is sort of a system, especially near the end.

We, or at least I, read stories to be entertained, to escape reality, not for a large psychological debate to be shoved in your face. I didn't start reading this for that, and now that I'm done all I want is to physically throw this in the bin and set fire to it.

I really don't like the ending too, but I don't think this could have ended any other way. It wasn't open ended, he killed the system and everyone died slowly of old age with him never seeing them again. Horrible ending for such a great MC.

There's a manga based on this, but I'm betting that it will get dropped since the plot is too complicated, and the artist probably got tricked by the awesome prologue like I did.

I've read about half of Omniscient Readers Viewpoint, and this reminded me of why I dropped that. Its clearly from the same author, although that pushes less issues at you, but its similar in that it lacks any kind of structure. Both this and that are cleverly written, but are trying to be too clever. The hidden messages are too loud, too in your face, coupled with a confusing plot and bad ending. The author sacrifices plot for their 'message' or 'debate', and it's not one I care for.

Just finished this novel minutes ago and it is now one of my favorite novels. The story is profound and in a sense, raises existential questions that we tend to neglect. What is self? What is belief? I think this novel is really suitable for those who like fantasy novels with more thinking required. The 1* reviews really did this novel an injustice.

This story.... It's like a mix of..... Tutorial is too hard and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint.
Also, The World After The Fall was made by the same author as ORV for those that didn't know this. Anyway I found it very much to my liking.
Jae Hwan, the MC, is the last human to try and fight against the towers that fell from the sky on top of each major city in the world.
People were transported into the tower, and our MC manages to reach the final level of the tower. All other humans that were in the tower either went into the past with a regression stone or whatever it was called (which was actually a stone that puts them in a dream of their choosing) or they go and jump off the tower & die.
Jae Hwan learned only 1 thing, but learned it to perfection which is how to thrust with a sword.
And with that skill he ends up winning against the foe that is on the last level, and gains some sort of power over the interface/system that mans the tower.
These towers.... they are llike cinema movies for other worlds and there are people that put these towers on different worlds to make stronger people/s*aves....
The tower that Jae Hwan defeated was an older type of tower... a tower made by someone special. And by defeating it, he received something special.

I liked this book. The author clearly has a good imagination which plays into this epic fantasy story.

The story can be very confusing at times but if you read through it MOST your questions will be answered. The MC is an extremely lonely man and the author does a good job a portraying this.
The story mainly focuses on the MC but does have some important side characters that get there “time to shine” so to speak.

Im not sure how I feel about the ending, it’s sad and a little... more>> confusing but overall this novel makes for a great read.

All in all if your looking for an exciting fantasy adventure this is a good place to start. <<less

Seriously, this novel should be renamed as "one stab man".

Jokes aside, this is one of the most impressive novel I ever have read. It is top nop as a light novel, and if this novel has been polished a little bit, I can assured you this will be a masterpiece. I will say this is original and unique.

The novel start with such a powerful twist that you cant help but continue reading.

At first, the novel can only be described as "entertaining". But after later chapters, you will come across many... more>> ideologies and theories that so fasinating that you wonder why author can even think about it. Then everything made sense. All is planed out. The plot twist at the end is also powerful. You have hints about it, but still surprised how thing turn out. And in the end, I will surely leant something about this novel, like I do.

The power system and world- buiding is so simple that I cant find any holes on it. You can say this is a short story. All the cast are in no way 2d. They all have reason why they act that way. People dont fawn over MC like those who only read 20 or so chaps say. When looking back after reading 200 chap or so, you will realise they are just... human in a cruel world.

But even when the theme and the overall plot are god-like, there are flaws that keep this being a literature masterpiece:

1. Author use simple and straigh-forward words. If only this novel dont use "light novel" way of writting, a piece of art may be born. This is just that good. Yes, I am nitpicking, but yeah, this novel have too much potential.

2. Fight scene are not a strong point in this novel. It is sympolic, and many people will not get it, given how crude words are.

3. MC have too much power yet go to place with weak people. If give new readers the impression that this is just another op MC and side-char is just there to praise him. He will have hardship later on, but if only the author dont make him stand out too much and take time slowly, this novel could be better (and longer)

Overall, you should read this novel and see for yourself. <<less

This is a very thematic novel. From the beginning until the end, it consistently discusses hope, the past, desire, and the good and bad influences they may have on people of different status. The story is very slow in revealing vital information though, as an example, the main character is not as overpowered as he appears in the start, and is in fact still confined to a part of the albeit very elaborate power systems present in the story. The characters themselves are also representative of their class, tying in with the idea of hope, as the weaker ones are typically in despair, whilst the strong are overconfident. The main character stands out not through his power but through his different outlook on life, which in turn grants him his power. As the story progresses, the power ups get less to do with training, and more about inner contemplation and philosophies, which I find unique and pretty cool. Unlike what others may have said, I found the ending as a nice tie in to the rest of the story, concluding and showcasing the development of the themes mentioned above in a short arc, as well as continuing the symbol of the ouroborus, the cyclic nature of everything, as with, in my interpretation, the destruction of the tree comes the birth of a new tree from the ashes. The story also carries the traditional narrativise of the protagonist's rebellion against the norm, illustrated by Jaehwan, the man with a childlike soul going against the all controlling Big brother and the final denial of conformity before the last arc.

[collapse]

TLDR: overall great story, should definitely be read, but keep in mind that the pacing is slow and the powers more abstract and contemplative than the norm, so some may lose interest halfway, but the ending is worth it

Honestly, the end is really depressing. I just finished it, I really loved the story... quite philosofical. I'm writing this review for those that hate the feeling at the end, but I do not regret reading it. I sure am feeling like something is gripping my soul lol yet I feel somehow almost content when writing this. What was interesting to me was not the power trip how some people put it. Just the trip alone was insanely fun and full of mystery. You will get all of your main... more>> questions answered... there will be nothing really left over for you to fantasize about... and honestly I really liked it, but I say again the ending was so depressing that I don't even want to fantasize about what would and could have happened. I respect the MCs path and I don't want to change it. <<less

As expected from the author of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint *flips table*

As a reader and an amateur writer myself, every time I read any of this author’s creative masterpieces, I always find myself having mixed feelings after reaching the ending. Should I be happy that in his stories, the art of writing has transcended into an entirely divine kind of creation? Or should I be sad that in each of the author’s stories, there is a persistent thing called ‘reality’ that slams back at readers in each ending of the story?

The... more>> way this novel will make you think is definitely phenomenal. Everytime Jaehwan uses [Suspicion], I find myself using it with him. There were definitely clues scattered all over the novel, and considering that I have read Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, I was more familiar with how the author wanted to conclude this novel.

But I still kind of hoped. Like Jaehwan’s friends’, I find myself hoping that the author won’t let the world ‘fall.’

Spoiler

Well, it did. Reality invaded again, just like how after the Tree of Imagery was destroyed, Jaehwan finds himself in the [Nighmare of Beginning] and for those who read the novel, you know what I mean. Even Jaehwan said it himself. “I see.”Jaehwan said. “So my world fell.” That world... Jaehwan destroyed it with his own hands. He destroyed the Tree of Imagery and returned to ‘reality’ with his own hands. The reason readers like us read novels was to escape in another world. The reason I have mixed feelings about the author was that in each story, there is always this sort of bleak feeling that everything we have read about was just the protagonist’s delusion. Kim Dokja and his dreams, Jaehwan and his delusions. As we start having this [Suspicion] while reading the novel because of the clues handed by the author, we (the readers) are also thudded back to reality. What differs us from Kim Dokja/Jaehwan? We are them also escaping ‘reality’ and trying to enter another world. But even as the author thuds as back to reality, they leave a spark of hope with their open endings. Kim Dokja’s world might be true. Jaehwan’s world might be true. As the reader in me is despairing at the reality that creeps in the novel, the writer in me on the other hand is exhilarated. What if the worlds I create are ‘true’? Who says ‘reality’ is not another world imposed on us like the ‘System’? And as I think in this route, the ‘reader’ in me starts to wonder as well. That maybe, all of us should ‘Awaken.’ This is why I think that despite my mixed feelings about these sorts of ending, this author is truly phenomenal for shaking my world view.

[collapse]

Don’t think too much and just read this book. Even if you don’t like your mind to hurt and get existential crisis, the writing is thrilling and the concepts are amazing enough to keep any type of reader in continuing to read it. There is little to no romance, and while I think the MC is a bit OP in terms of mental strength and determination, it is not to the point that it will turn you off. <<less

I guess most importantly, the author makes it clear (pretty blatantly at the end) that if you're here for just a fun ride where you can relax and escape reality for a while, this story probably isn't for you... They want you to think about real issues WHILE enjoying a generic power fantasy ^^;

Where most novels in this genre tend to struggle with how/when to end, The World After the Fall feels like it was built up specifically for it's ending. Based just on the ending, I would easily give... more>> this 5 stars as it really rounded out all the ideas that were presented in each section. More importantly, it really made Jaehwan feel like a relatable character. However, that does mean that he isn't very relatable nor does he feel very 'human' in the early/middle stages of the novel. Since I believe that was the author's intention, it was really well executed.

Jaehwan struggles, he preservers, he's admirable... but to the extreme. The way side characters practically deify him at times makes it hard for their relationships to deepen, and despite all the characters being quite likable, I really missed out on the feeling of friendship throughout the novel. By the time he grows into a fully fleshed out 'human' where he could naturally build these relationships and finally show his weaker sides to other, he's already alone. I think this is why so many people have called this bittersweet, but it's also why I couldn't recommend this novel unless your going to finish it.

On a side note... there are JoJo levels of bizarre moments in here that are both kind of distracting and a good breather from the intensity. <<less

This novel is criminally underrated, its the first time that I found myself so influenced by novel, the ending is so fascinating, here is fun part if you consider MC to be the Author of this novel, then the story changes a lot, and you realise that you are being questioned, and obviously everyone including me will answer no its just a story, and that's the point you can't prove you are right, but you will still believe that your world is real, haha first time seeing a korean novel... more>> going so philosophical. Oh and here's request please dont rate without completing the story, go ahead and write reviews that you hate the story till ch 20, 30, 50 but rating it drops the value of the novel, its like judging a book by it's cover. <<less

I made an account just to do this novel justice. Any comments before 2019 aren't reliable. They are commenting on just the beginning and honestly this novel is so much more than the cliche game, fantasy, op MC type. It's starts off as your MC fighting against the world, but by the end there's so much philosophy, thought and planning involved that it's amazing. It's like when you watched neon genesis evangelion for the first time and realized it wasn't a simple mech genre but a mind dump that you... more>> have to think about to understand. In fact I still don't completely understand why it finished like that. The ending isn't pleasant I'll admit. This novel just makes you feel incredibly lonely. I just feel really sad now and am trying to motivate myself to complete my hw before midnight.

All in all, this novel is a gem that you'll probably regret ignoring if you pass it by.

Good luck and Ouroboros.

Ps. If someone figures out why the last chapter is named what it is pls hmu

Pps. After much insight and research I now understand the ending... mostly anyway. <<less

I can only give it a 3.0

It's good at first, it sounded so promising but then it started to collapse in nowhere in middle of between, it eventually became illogical of detail and no personality development as well as you can't come to like MC at all. While reading this, I actually realized I stumbled on an Arrogant MC novel, and I just want to smash it off.

marvelous story I mean the ending was.... I wanted to cry and I didn't want to cry (ouroboros ?) if you are gonna read about 30 chapters and stop I advice to skip this novel It's not really about hype (even there are a lot) but I think it's about ideologies that different characters present there are a lot of hints in the beginning but you can see it in the latter half of the novel

this story will make think about a lot of questions that we try to avoid... more>> and if you finish it you will fill satisfyingly unsatisfied I mean There no better fitting ending and this novel will become related to your reality

In conclusion great novel if you ever consider reading it finish it. <<less

A bit promising so far, but has severe issues. (The quality of translation is unstable, sometimes being on the level of machine translation, completely destroying the experience)

This title puts a very unique twist on tower-climbing novels which immediately caught my attention. On top of that, the MC isn't very predictable which made me very interested if further chapters, and the author conveyed very nicely how stubborn MC is, though his self-developed ability seems a bit too much of a cheat. Oh, and the terminology is a bit strange: "adapters",... more>> "settings", "parts"? That sounds too s*upid. When an author replaced very common things like "abilities" and "weapons" with silly and unfitting words to make the world-building more unique, it becomes not just the opposite, but worse than common tr*sh. [Also, ] [the] [further] [you] [read] [the] [more] [brackets] [you] [encounter] [and] [that's] [really] [annoying] <<less

Gave this a 5 star rating because it's worth the read for sure. It's different but at the same time it's not. This shows the creativity and skill of the author. Even if he used the usual set up or theme of novels however he delivered it very well. The ending, well some say it's sad, sure maybe it was for others but for me, it also signals a new beginning.

Why this ending!! This novel is damn near perfect. I initially wanted some leveling novel and came here because of the tag. But it totally subverted my expectations. Loner MC pushed to the extreme.

Some reviews said OP MC and too much trope. Alright, first, starting the novel at the end of a tower ascension should tell you what you should expect of the tropes present. There are in total 2 potential romantic partners and the first one initially (actually till the end of their encounter) just wants to bash the... more>> MC's face in. So it's hard to say that women are fawning over him.

If I knew what this essay was about, I would have been reluctant as it's mostly about philosphy and how this affects the combat. For example (Not really spoiler), Meaning of reality, doubt about reality, (Nightmare inside a nightmare) -- inception like thinking, 1984 (George Orwell), the meaning of identity, etc.

The only issue is the ending. I was on chapter 237 ish and I was thinking that this is the perfect place for the story to end and it doesn't. Why?? The end is so cryptic and doesn't make sense. The author has been very skillful so dar, it seems like he just gave the last chapters to someone else to write.

Honestly even the end battle was much duller than the other parts of the book. <<less

Excellent novel so far. There was a touch-and-go moment from ch.25 to about 32, where a female character was being focused on and the common tropes were overwhelmingly dumb. (Girl almost dies MC saves at last second, Girl almost dies MC only one that can save her)

But right then it changes back to a good novel, Idk if that is because the girl is passed out recovering though. I REALLY hope she doesn't become a focus again. If the author goes back to her then I'll likely be done.

There... more>> are some common tropes used, but most of them are changed slightly and it gives a good twist. If the author can avoid the romance bit, then this could end up as an excellent novel.

Pros:

Consistent MC - the MC doesn't mind killing but he doesn't do so for s*upid reasons.

World building - so far the world is pretty well described and though it isn't amazing it is solid.

Side-character development - Other than the one girl (who isn't that bad, just the author used s*upid tropes), everyone else has pretty solid/entertaining development and personalities

Cons:

Female tropes (ch.25-32ish.)

There are a couple reviews that say females fawn over MC, but there is only one female interest and she doesn't fawn, just follows around being slightly annoying for a few chapters. As long as the plot is focused on MC it is a good novel. <<less

I was speechless and in awe. The concept of space and time presented in the story of Kim Dokja and Jaehwan is similar but not similar. But I am very sad and satisfied when the story has finished. The stories of these authors, both ORPV and TWAF, are masterpieces worth reading to the end. Full of things that are quite complicated about the theory of space-time and need a strong imagination to understand the plot. But once you start to understand rest assured you won't regret reading it.

I don't like the ending. At least let MC who has suffered from loneliness live life with friends who believe and fight with him. Why do they have to spend life without being able to meet at the end. This is really not a happy ending. MC even suffers in the world after "returning" with all thoughts about his "world"
