I gave a 4.5 rating to this novel (I just made it five because of the low rating) because I was really surprised by the plot and the ending. There were so many twists, especially in the ending, but I think the author sometimes, I think definitely neglected other characters, except the MC, ML, and the MC's best friend. It was a pleasant read.

Actual score based on my preferences is fluctuating between 2/5~4/5

Reminder: This review is purely based on my preferences

At first, I thought this will be good; with that premise of trading one lives for beloved one, inlaid with my favorite genres of horror, mystery, tragedy, and supernatural. And yet, what I got was... somewhat half good, half infuriating.

Sure, the premises has gotten me hooked already, but the content really made me grab some hair in frustration. Yes, the instances setting is really brain-engaging, I have no qualms about that: it really... more>> stimulating for me.

The MC is a nice and smart lad actually, but at times I felt his IQ was like a happy-go-lucky person ~I mean, He never seems to bother with the instances' clues seriously. I do like how he was not OP and his skill only made him frustrated tho.

His mate, TMM... uh... I don't know whether he was a natural MK (mood maker) or KY (kuuki yomenai) person... He never 'grow up'

The ML 'companions'... what the hell is wrong with them, actually? I just want to badmouth them so bad, but I don't know what to write. They lack weight, content, personality, and development.

Well, actually 99% of extra name appeared so far only ended up as negligible cannon fodder; pretty sad I thnk; honestly I like the lass and the boy who accompanied the gang during the demon castle arc; they have potential to be teammates but author-sama just killed them so fast. <<less

I don't usually write reviews coz of my laziness lol but for this novel I just can't stop myself from expressing my views!

Okay then~

Let me tell you, this is a hidden gem!! In the starting chapters it was fairly interesting but then after reading 20+ chapters I became addicted to this novel.

All the arcs are just awesome and sometimes makes you feel like you are really very dumb, it's also very creepy and never fails to hook you up!~ I just love the MC.. So mature and sharp! And and... more>> and the friendship theme between the MC and his bestie in this novel makes feel so good that I'm in tears! ML was also very cute especially in the midway~ I just can't squealing whenever I read about interaction! So fluffy!! I highly recommend this novel! And I'll assure you this will really make addicted! <<less

I really love this BL novel - it's probably one of the freshest, least-cliched survival game novels out there! It incorporates rankings, point systems, special items and powers, etc. Probably the most unique part for me is the "streaming" attribute that the MC possesses. I'd love to see more of it! I think streaming stories in general are interesting, and this is definitely a new twist on the horror genre.

The romance is barely there at the moment, and the ML is amnesiac (?) and doesn't have much personality outside of... more>> cold, powerful, and handsome, but that's literally 99% of Chinese BL novels, so I don't judge that too harshly. The real gem for me is the main character and his best friend. For once, the MC is allowed to have a male best friend that isn't secretly pining after him or vice versa! Moreover, their banter and dynamic is hilarious. It's honestly the strongest relationship for me in the novel so far. I'm not a fan of novels that use their side characters as pure plot devices or as 2-D caricatures defined by 1 characteristic. <<less

This novel is highly interesting, extremely action-packed. Literally, as a reader, I was on tenterhooks as to whether the characters in the story would die or not. The plot twist is superbly done and the ending extras nicely tie up the story.

This is a really good book for those who love horror and action. In fact, it was less horror and more action coz most of the time they are running and fighting against the ghosts/ demons rather than a typical quiet build-up of horror.

Translation quality - 100/100!!!!

So why the... more>> 2 stars? Well, the set-up is too illogical. MC & bestie are sent to diff highest level worlds right at the start. Like the levels ML & his team of super powerful, have spent 10+ years in the horror world would go through. I hate this setting. There's literally nothing MC & bestie can do coz they haven't gone through enough levels to gain any power or weapons. And this pisses me off. So 2 stars for this setting. <<less

This is an exciting suspense/comedy/action/mystery/sci-fi/fantasy/horror/survival/gaming series that has done well to keep me on the edge of my seat while making me laugh every couple of chapters, too. The MC and his best friend are the best foils I have come across in any story-telling medium in a long time.

They worked as streamers and got paid based on their commentary and antics while playing horror games in order to keep their audiences entertained. The MC acts as the more stoic "straight man, " but he's still hilarious and screams when... more>> necessary. His friend is cowardly, but he's actually taller and way more athletic than the MC. Since the MC acts like the leader of the pair, I always get the impression a little rabbit is protecting the cowardly lion. I love their relationship. They trust and rely on each other without hesitation in a world with backstabbing and treachery is normal. Their personalities are consistent and develop smoothly as they experience this horrible gaming world they're trapped in.

The setting is very similar to Game Loading, but the instances the players experience have more variety and can be more life-threatening. Although some of the rules are revealed early on, it's very clear that many other rules and exceptions are hidden in the depths of this strange place, and the mystery keeps growing deeper. Any inconsistencies that appear are hints for what's truly going on in the background.

This is an exciting and hilarious but terrifying and creative read. Strongly recommended. <<less

Imma review this scary but delightful story. Not sure why you guys are rating it so low, even I am not a fan for horror, rather I wanna stay away from but... I stayed for the characters and the plot.

There's a huge difference when your playing A horror game and playing THE horror game. It involves life, aint there aint no save points. So characters here are realistic.

So we have an MC who's the type of player who actually reads and understand the story of each horror. Obviously he's gonna... more>> survive. We have my type aka his bff, "screeches in terror but if have to do it, then we have to do it", btw I love this for the sake of him screaming "dont you dare jinx it!!" (Both are the type of MC haracters seen in outlast/evil within/ resident evil) Then we have to so called veterans who are more a group of ghostbusters minus the capturing devices. Lastly we have the people who arrogant/deadweights which is the type who you wanna sacrifice just to shut up ???

Now, as for difficulty, probably it differs on the boss monsters. But when you're in life death situations what's the difference right? ??? Besides that there rules, that instantly gives you the bad end in a silver platter. So I guess the more complex the rules are the higher the difficulty.

Spoiler

according the forums its a HE so you can be assured all is well in the end

Promise you will enjoy the banter of MC and BFF ????? happy reading!! <<less

Oh my gosh, this was frankly hilarious. Don’t get me wrong, it’s scary in certain bits but because the main character used to stream himself playing horror games, when he is actually caught in a real life horror game, he can’t help but comment on it like a real streamer.

No sign of male lead yet, I don’t think.

I enjoyed what I understood of this story, though it gets really complex and messy towards the end. Speaking of which, I'm conflicted about the ending, though it is a HE (big spoiler ahead)

Spoiler

i dislike endings where everyone gets amnesia and returns to their lives with no problems, nightmares, or trauma despite years of constant life and death struggles so I was disappointed when the author pulled that out towards the end. The MC regaining his memory kind of redeemed it as did the things that happened with the ML. They meet a few people in the extras that they knew in the game and while those people thought they looked familiar there was no sudden return of memories.

the game introduced in the last extra makes the story a little open-ended. Is it the same game? Will the people who play the beta suddenly remember? Ending the story with the three getting ready to play was a b*tch move since we will never know if it was a new version of the game they knew or just something with the same name. Is it still a HE if they get s**ked into the game again?
[collapse]

there were several unanswered questions like who those people watching him really were though admittedly the explanation could have been there and I just missed it. My eyes were getting tired towards the end. also I didn't find the story all that scary. The first instance was probably the scariest, though I admit my tolerance for scary stories is pretty high. Some of them seemed more like survival scenarios rather than horror copies. All in all its good but flawed and the turn it takes towards the end was surprising. <<less

Sigh, I Have lots of words. This novel has a lot of potential to be amazing, but in my opinion it falls flat. The three stars are because the banter between the MC and his friend was entertaining, and I will not deny the concept is intriguing.

The set up, as described in the synopsis, is a very interesting dynamic. However, it isn't executed well in multiple ways. However, the instances are also boring and repetitive. Some of the instances had unique ideas, but they all boiled down to "MC and... more>> his friend run into a ghost, scream and run away, canon fodder die, and the ML saves the MC".

In my opinion, the CP is not well developed. It could be worse, but I wish there were more moments of them bonding and actually talking to each other.

Spoiler

the entire dynamic and relationship is based on the face that the MC thinks Shen Yuan (the ML) is his dead childhood friend. However Shen Yuan denies they are the same person. The MC and Shen Yuan have very little substantial interactions. The MC's interest in Shen Yuan is completely dependent on the fact he is still in love with his dead friend.

I think it could have been interesting to see the MC meet and get to know Shen Yuan as a unique person. But there is no relationship to speak of, they have little chemistry. It's just the MC thinking Shen Yuan is his amnesic childhood friend.

[collapse]

The MC starts out as weak, and I don't have an issue with this. However, instead of showing him incrementally gain power through completing instances, there are time skips. And the ML hard carries him through a lot of the instances or just a simple deus ex machina.

There are a lot of "plot twists", but it felt like the author trying to change things up as much as possible. I ended up rolling my eyes at the back-to-back "reveals", the fiftieth "plot twist" is somewhat tiring

Spoiler

yes I am exaggerating. There is not LITERALLY fifty plot twists.

[collapse]

Except for the MCs friend, the side characters are boring. The team dynamic is non-existent and other than MianMian, they are all completely forgettable.

Like many infinite flow novels, the ending is a mess. It is not the worst ending out of the novels I've read, but it is rushed and poorly developed.

Spoiler

these novels always seem to scramble to "justify" the existence of the system. This novel specifically brings in people being brain dead and mass human experimentation. Like no, you don't HAVE to explain the system for the novel to be good. Often it is better if the system is more vague.

[collapse]

Overall not a bad read, especially since the chapters are short. But read earth is online instead <<less

I agree with BlackSesame's review.

The premise is good but the romance was dragged out wayy to long. ML just felt like different people throughout the story (like a 180 personality change). I also didn't like how the MC was so weak all the time. He survived due to luck and plot armour (and thanks to the ML).

I actually didn't like the conversations between the MC and his best friend. After a while it just got too repetitive. I'm sorry but stop crying pls with the "wuuwuu". You would think that... more>> they would grow from the instances but nope. They just barely get through each time <<less

This novel had so much potential but... It was hilarious at the start with the MC and TMM's jokes but at one point they get annoying. Even after surviving in instances they learn nothing and continue fooling around. I can understand someone joking in a dangerous situation but that's literally all they do. Like I can't relate to them like this. Everyone else is scared and screaming and they keep doing s*upid things.

Even the MC's kind personality annoys me. It's clear that those people are s*upid a$$e$ who wanna die... more>> why try to talk sense into them? And he doesn't even talk back when people scream at him and wrong him. Not just the newbies even when SY's friends treat him like like sh*t he just starts smiling like dude you mad? Have some self respect.

And there were so many people with potential who were just killed off bcz of s*upid reasons. The girl in the start who could read German, the little boy and the lucky geek. No one other than the MC, TMM and the ML's friends survives the instances. Even the old players! The things the protags figure out don't require that much brain power. But the author writes everyone other than the main and side characters as s*upid and annoying.

Even the instances are subpar, they have no logic whatsoever. I can understand that being the story plot but it just makes the story boring. I like when MC's figure out things bcz of their intelligence, in this the reason why the MC is alive is the ML and the plot armour. There's nothing special about the MC.

The difficulty level of instances is also illogical. The clown instance was harder than the castle one. And overall the difficulty of all the instances is that same as everyone other than the MC and the sides dies.

I can understand the MC being weak. But he has no brain power or physical power even TMM is better than him at the physical part. The reason he survives is 10% bcz of his efforts, 40% bcz of the ML and 50% bcz of the plot armour.

There's no suspense either, you can figure out in the beginning who the ML is. And the secret world thingy. Overall just a subpar novel. <<less

Spoiler

Not gonna lie, I cried at the part where Xiao Tangqiu pulled Meng Xinghe’s life support by his own hands, and cried harder when Meng Xinghe sent Xiao Tangqiu back to the real world without any memories of the game. This is also one of the things I rage about.

[collapse]

I was seeing so much potential from Duan Hongzhen and Tang Mianmian as a side pair!

Spoiler

But the fact that they remained amnesiac is such a loss! There could have been a better closure for them all. I’m pretty sure they have deep sentiments for Shen Yuan/Meng Xinghe too! That’s too f*cking hateful!

[collapse]

I can’t say much about the plot in depth, but I enjoyed it. Maybe others found it lacking, I’m a bit dissatisfied by the lack of interaction but all-in-all, it was fine for me.

Spoiler

I already suspected from the start the Yun Jizhou is actually Shen Yuan/Meng Xinghe. I also received a spoiler that Shen Yuan is Meng Xinghe, so it doesn't feel off for me that Xiao Tangqiu’s instinct is to worry and get close to Shen Yuan. When I read the part that Shen Yuan met the Abyss Demon at an above S-level instance, I also suspected that they might be the same person. The constant hint afterwards in the following chapters until the truth was revealed strengthened my conjecture.

Meng Xinghe = Shen Yuan = Abyss Demon

The truth is a little unexpected, but I’ll accept the reason as it can only be the more reasonable explanation for all of it.

[collapse]

But really, the other side characters have so much potential, it’s really disappointing. <<less

So-so.

I actually had my expectations rather high for the first three arcs but then it became a landslide.

Spoiler
    • Too many filler characters without anything to offer to the plot or character development. It's always the protagonist, his best friend and the male lead's team who can win against the instances. The others dieeee. You might say, didn't someone win with them? Su Manluo? Wews, here's my cent: she's the starter tutorial afterwards she disappeared until the City was invaded then gone again. Like seriously?
    • Shen Yuan's teammates are flat which sucks because I really like their dynamics and antics but then it becomes repetitive to the point of being annoying. I wish the author divulged why they became a group, like they were so loyal to Shen Yuan yet no trace of why and how. At one point I even shipped Tang Mianmian with the Duan guy.
    • Timeskips. Like they're not bad but it went from point a to point g real quick. I wonder if the author was being rushed and pressured.
    • At this point they should have introduced City E, D, and S. They're the only one with actual scenes. (Just a complaint, it really doesn't matter but I just wanna see them lmaooo.)
    • Inconsistent with the upgrades. Like Xiao Tangqiu was given the special skill card then the system told him that after he got I think 1k coins? He could use his skill from 3 to 6 times but all through out he did not even bother. We could even see him thinking about where the donated items of his audience go (like the hundred of holy waters and so on). I had been waiting for him to discover that...
    • The other instances became shorter and shorter. :< The length of the first chapters was really substantial compared the succeeding ones. Even the plot became meh.
    • The wrap-up is alright. I was too blanked out with what's happening to even have the energy to put my cent here.
    • Err, our Xiao Tangqiu always being saved by Shen Yuan. Like bro, even Tang Mianmian had his power up. They really did you no
[collapse]

All along the male lead's teammates are the real passerbys and not Tang Mianmian. Real talk, the only thing that got me going to finish this novel is the hilarity of when a crow's mouth and thigh hugger combo gets grouped up. They're so fluffy and precious, I want to get them chocolate and pat them in the head. They remind me so much of Kwang-soo except the betrayal part tbh.

They're just so loyal even though they just met each other. Tang Mianmian is easily scared but he does not forget to grab Xiao Tangqiu out of the harm's way. He even saved Xiao Tangqiu's bu*t a lot of times. Remember the clown arc? Deym, you're the best Tang Mianmian. I was fooled too, just so you know I really admire your character there.

At this point where I finished the novel, (Xiao Tangqiu & Tang Mianmian) over (Shen Yuan/Xiao Tangqiu).

I'm sorry male lead but the build up was already constructed in your past but I had not seen much substance with the present. Like I adore how cute you are but the friendship of the weak duo appeal more to me?

This is one of my favorite infinite flow novels! Honestly what makes this one for me is because of MC's best friend (no he is not ML lol). It's just a rare relationship that is hardly ever seen, especially since MLs in danmei tend to be overly possessive. MC and his BFF go through the worlds together and they will never abandon each other (despite both of them being weak af in the beginning). The romance w/ ML itself is a very slow buildup, but other than that, I fully... more>> recommend giving this novel a try!
^though disclaimer, as some other reviews have pointed out, the first 2 arcs a bit slow, so don't give up too early! <<less

I'm not a patient person but I don't hate waiting for developments however, I did try but I just can't anymore. The only character I liked here was TMM.

I liked the 1st few arcs, ig. The only thing that really put me off were ML's teammates. I enjoyed reading it ngl, but ml's teammates really pisses me off. I'm not far into the novel but if his teammates are always this $h1tty then there's no point in reading anymore. I also dislike how MC can't fight back in verbal arguments.... more>> There were so many assditches in the novel but so far from what I've read, MC can't even throw a decent savage remark. He becomes speechless after being rudely accused and such. He's cheeky when it comes to teasing TMM but can't even fight back when arguing with a bunch of asshats.

I don't hate him, I like him, I just hate how he can't defend himself from an argument. Remember when
Spoiler

ML was in a coma

[collapse]
ml's teammates were treating him like sh1t but he didn't even know how to defend himself. He let them drag him from there to here and back to there, I get that he feels guilty but he should feel guilty to ML NOT HIS TEAMMATES. They don't have the right and will never have the right to order him to do this and that just because they're from a higher guild and are friends with SY.

All I'm saying is... from start to where I stopped reading, I have not felt any satisfaction from the face slapping (if any) that occured.

Spoiler

Sigh... I might as well ship Xiao Tangqiu and Tang Mianmian together. They have more screen time, chemistry and trust towards each other in the past few chapters until now. The few times MC and ML were together, they not only had little communication but their intimate moments can't even be described as intimate. Yes, there was a time where they kissed but that can barely be called romantic. Yes, they blocked attacks for each other, but so did Mianmian and Qiuqiu (could even say that from the very beginning they were already protecting each other). I like Ml, I like MC and I like Mianmian. But for all the critical moments when MC was in need of help, Mianmian was the one who helped him (he tried atleast) .

[collapse]

I don't like how MC can't fight back from verbal abuse hurled by others. I don't like how Ml's teammates act so arrogantly and annoyingly. I don't like how the characters are designed. I think that the only TRULY likable character in this novel is Tang Mianmian. <<less

1. I was expecting more live stream stuff from the title and synopsis. The most live stream related stuff I've seen is the start of the novel. Maybe it actually matters in later chapters but right now (c46.1) the MC could just be a normal guy and the story would've stayed pretty much the same. So I wonder why 'live stream' was so important that it is the title of the novel.

2. The ML is so boring. He feels very 2D and flat. He has no character, no motivations. Sure,... more>> maybe he does have a motive that hasn't been revealed, but you have to give him something that is driving him to do the things he does otherwise he's just an empty shell. Take DPUBFTB (another novel) for example, they also have a couple who are childhood best friends that are secretly in love with each other and one of them is dead. The reason why the fluff and care it's ML shows it's MC is so sweet is because I actually care about the ml. I understand the things he does and why he does it for the MC. I know what his motivation is. Also, the ml's actions of putting himself in danger for the MC doesn't really make me feel anything accept mild confusion and dislike towards the ML's teammates.

3. The side characters are also very unlikable. I'm not sure if we're supposed to dislike them but ML's teammates are horrible. When MC and his friend joined the ML's team, the ML's teammates were like, 'yeah, do whatever you want but we're not gonna take care of your mess' I was absolutely alright with that, after all, no one wanted a pig teammate to drag you down in a game of life and death. That was until the Ding guy started poking fun at how weak our MC is. Like bro??? Now I hate him, and he's the male lead's teammate.

4. The MC is also not very interesting. He's a newbie and acts like one, that's nice to see but he doesn't really develop any skills or tricks to deal with the threats, so it feels like he has nor much character development. Everytime he faces a threat the ML solves it for him or said threat just magically let's him go. I get that he's a newbie and newbies aren't good that the game yet but how am I supposed to root for a character that hugs people's thighs and rely on others to solve the problem. The thing is, I would enjoy a normal relatable guy just trying to figure out the situation he's in and gradually work his way to the top and succeed but the story potray him as some one of a kind genius that got in a S tier world on second instance which was the first time it ever happened and he must be special, without seeing anything he's done worthy of being a strong seedling. All he did was die.

5. The last point, the confusing, forgettable plot. The horror instances were forgettable and empty, and I can't recall anything that happened in the instances. The driving point of the plot is that the MC sees a lookalike of his bff aka the ML and wants to know more, but since I don't care about the ML I also don't care about the plot.

I wrote this at 10am and I haven't slept for more than 24 hours. <<less
