He was persuaded into playing the VRMMO 「Trailblazer」 or TB for short by his cheerful childhood friend Miyu.

But Wataru faced Miyu, who was full of motivation and said this.

「Then, I’ll be the rearguard. Shinto priest? I’ll take this one」

「What!? You are not going to fight next to me!? And you call yourself a man!?」

For some time she would become one of the top players and start getting called Hero.

So Wataru had to deal with being an extra.

But, during a certain PvP event, a strange nickname was attached to Wataru.

That, he was actually the 「Hero’s true self」.

4.5/5, rounded up because I like well-done VRMMOs.

What's this? A VRMMO novel where the game system makes sense and the protagonist actually plays with other players most of the time? Shocking.

Don't be scared off by the slice of life tag; the author glosses over the boring parts and focuses on character interaction and fight scenes. For example, gathering materials to make a special weapon takes a few paragraphs rather than a few chapters the way some VRMMO novels would. For example, it doesn't show a status screen every other chapter... more>> for padding, and the MC doesn't agonize over every single skill point he gets.

The MC is competent. He does his job as support and party leader well. He doesn't get "lucky chances", he doesn't stumble on some overpowered skill/stat combination no one knows about. At least not early on. He seems like a typical dense beta Japanese MC at first, and I would have lowered my rating by one star for that, but as of c57 I can say that he's not actually dense and his reason for not making a move makes sense.

The harem is... There's a surprising number of women around the MC for a MMO, I'd say. It shouldn't be surprising that he's popular (I can confirm from experience that being a half-decent healer gets you lots of friend requests) and the harem members don't automatically get along with each other, so it doesn't detract too much from the story. I'd still drop it by a star, but sometimes how the girls interact is amusing, so I only drop it half a star. And at least not ALL the characters he meets in-game are women.

Most of all, I like how it feels like a real game. I like how there's no "class that no one plays because it sucks". I like how there's no "amazing item that only one person can obtain". I like how there are no "coincidental" item drops that are exactly what the MC needs at the time (if he needs something, he has to investigate how to get it and go out of his way). I like that there's no unique questline with amazing rewards that only the MC stumbles upon. I like that the author doesn't feel the need to explain basic terminology or make up words to explain to pad out chapters. I like how there's an honest-to-goodness party that takes some time to become solid and doesn't just serve as a tool to show how amazing the MC is.

tl;dr Probably the most MMO-like experience of any VRMMO novel out there. <<less

A good VRMMO novel that doesnt get lengthy on unnecessary stuff. The MC is a guy that knows how to use his head and supports the party to the top even with a musclebrain in it. Its funny how the MC and the hero r both sharp and dense/s*upid at the same time. The only reason I gave it a 4 is I've read better and deeper novels than this, not cuz I have any complaints about this novel.

Typical dense Japanese MC with a harem of girls interested in him before the story even starts, including his half sister. There is a lot of filler even in the first couple of chapter. When I skip forward I can easily see full chapters just being other players comments on the current situation... In other words chapters full of fillers.

The plot was good for a slice-of-life story. My only problem was how the girls interacted with the MC. Like typical japanese harem novel, the girls "somehow" became interested in the MC. What I meant with "somehow" was it just happen the girls like the MC without a proper character development. It was a big problem, at least for me, as a characters development is an important part in slice-of-life type story.

A true slice of life story, there is really not any higher plot, or goal to archive, just a couple of friends playing a game, and having fun in the way.

The characters are good, most of them have pretty good personality and defining characteristics, and the interactions are the highlight of the novel.

The action is on point, but you can really feel that it's not the point of the novel.

... more>> Just something to read while taking a break from an the edgy, kill everything and salt the earth MC's.

I took off a star because it's not really something memorable, I will probably not remember anything of the story in a few months <<less

Solid 4/5, good world building, good fights, no real plot armor, without the harem shenanigans it would’ve been a 5/5, hope this updates soon, I want more

Fairly enjoyable read, other than the harem shenanigans. There are some hints that the MC is being willfully dense... either way, the romance aspect of this series so far is pretty much a zero (as of chapter 93) and should be completely ignored. Instead, it's just a group of friends having fun in a VRMMO world, which is pretty good.

In terms of how the game world is set up - Fluffums describes it well - it's relatively 'realistic' compared to the likes of SAO/Moonlight Scultor/etc, both in the world and... more>> in how the characters develop within it.

The Parahumans Online BBS segments are pretty good - while some are a bit more filler 'praise', it's not the eye-rolling lines you get in a Xianxia novel, and in particular by showing up after the events they don't get in the flow of the story. Plus there's a few times where it's not filler at all, but research, so on the whole it adds to the worldbuilding.

The main complaint I'd have after the pointless harem shenanigans would be the lack of tension. At some point you start to get the feeling that the characters won't lose no matter what they're doing.

Pretty good overall, but I'm rounding down to a 4 because pointless harem stuff is pointless. <<less

This is actually a good read in these genre. Game System makes sense and MC is not dense. He is not clever one but can use his head in the right place. His friends has their own character and desire (which I hardly see in most novels) and how they have their place in the story make me feel good.
