Writers can only draw from their own life experiences. This is deriving material directly from the industrialization of China in the 20th century, straight down to the decision to use mechanical fans and factories as the launch pad for the story. Of course it is still an transmigrator webnovel set in a magic fantasy setting, so relevant tropes will apply.

The people 1 starring this story (because author-no-engineer-he-dumb-dumb) are missing the references to China's notorious rise as the manufacturing center of the world and recent entry as a forefront technological innovator.

Granted... more>> the author is obviously rose tinting the fact he is developing sweatshops, monopolies, and the same dystopian capitalist system used in China. Any problems with this system are literally magicked away. But as a what-if-everything-was-perfect wish-fulfillment story? It is pretty good. At least it has a viable gimmick. <<less

Even though the way Author made the MC reacts on every maddening situation is so frustrating, overall it's really good novel.

As far as I remember, the first hundred of chapters was really unusual for me. No bloody killing, no madly power up obsession & lack of arrogant young masters. It's all about making money and innovations.

Despite the rush & somewhat ridiculous ending, this novel was really worth my time.

It's a pretty interesting novel introducing magi-tech to a magical world by an engineer,
so far it's a slice of life and management combo, the MC is a pleasant non-confrontational person who is aware of his lack of power and seeks to improve his standing as well as introduce the world into a new magitech industrial revolution...

This is one of the best novel I ever read in my life. I love kingdom building but in this case, it's company building reaching the point of overpowering all the country's combined. There is also the exploration but too little of it. It ended way too early and the ending feel rushed though.

This is the review after reading chapter 38

First if you find this novel by clicking kingdom building tag I must warn you this novel is more on business than kingdom building rather you can say this is a business empire building.

Second about magic fan it states that he use wind revolving array but is this array makes the fan revolve or the array only facilitates the wind after the rotation of the fan. If its the former I think the more suitable name is "revolving magic array" if its the... more>> latter it become harder to copy the magic fan because he only use the magic to replace electricity. For me this is a little mystake on the authors part so -1 points

Third it is about about chairman farsak he sell his tech to him but I think this is a wrong dicision because this strategy is only effective when monopoly is not allowed!!! MONOPOLY! This is in my oppinion. So -2 points

Forth is still about farsak encounter, the author did not explain why the main character choose that strategy and just let the main character remark " its not I do not want to explain it, it is just you can't understand even I explain it" or something like that. Curse you Author!! Why, is it hard to summaries it why you have to ruin the exciting part so -90 points

For me each star have 20 points

so you only got one star from me

So far its good, OK! I will continue reading <<less

I originally wrote a more comprehensive review in my normal format, but the internet ate it. Since I really don't have the motivation to redo it properly, I've decided to console myself in the knowledge that a simpler review is sufficient for this work, since it's really easy to pick out it's flaws with a casual read.

The entire story is a weird, 'overpowered main character', 'Gary Stu' wish fulfillment thing. What makes it weird is how little world cannon or specifics are used or paid attention to- other that the... more>> knock-off appliances of course. Another factor is that in addition to the MC getting random, lucky power ups and bonuses, his business does too- sometimes in the forms of people (with useful skills) or s*aves.

Yup, we casually dance around s*avery and oppression like it's only 'inconvenient'. Well, unless we want sympathy for a chapter of two.

There's a ton of nonsense and inconsistency- not too mention the development timeline for complex products is completely ridiculous.

MC is a transmigrator. This is absolutely irrelevant to the story in almost every way. It sounds like it should be related- after all, he is making appliances, right? No. He is just using magic in a way that no one else has thought of before (because they are all conveniently dumb) - and even as the story progresses will not be able to in the future, instead just opting to copy his success instead of saying 'this principles could be applied to many other things' like a normal, non-idiot would. For example- no one took the 'fan' technology and applied the motor to make a mixer, like was so popular when people cooked at home. Nope. MC skips to the bread maker (mixer built in) - and no one thinks to isolate & sell that. Author just forces his 'next thing' without reflecting on his own world's potential.

His business and political knowledge is laughably erroneous, and his attitude towards everything is pretty much one of 'How does this benefit me?'- with little consideration of other principles or concerns.

Accidentally (as part of his random 'I want to industrialize this world' arbitrary plan), he chooses to give people good salaries (but no medical- there is a loan program, though). This, and other 'seemingly altruistic' behaviors are revealed to be subtle retention and control methods to gain employee favor, decrease poaching, and course help him full fill the title of the series with no real passion of integrity.

Women are all harem fodder. 's*avery is bad' he says- later using s*aves like tools, or literally giving them as gifts. I gave up when he decided all the people in a certain country racked by hardship, starvation, oppression, and corrupt nobles also had the horrible problem of being 'lazy people'. Wff? There's absolutely no evidence for this in the narrative, but the author had some axe to grind...

That wasn't the deciding factor- just the last straw. I'd already realized this was a story with random, made up nonsense strung together casually, and expecting logic or common sense to be valued wasn't gonna happen. No sense listening to random insults too.

I wanted to say that this story was entertaining despite not having a magic system, or being true to it's repeated 'mages need to be powerful' assertion in any way, or doing anything interesting with development or competition in any way beyond random 'me too' or 'me steal' speed bumps... But I can't. This is just 'MC does the awesomest things' on loop- but with way less variety or novelty than other stories.

You can try it anyway- 'Good luck' to you if you do. <<less

Welp. A lot of negative reviews we got here. I know there are a lot of things that do not make sense here. But hey, I still love reading it. In my opinion, this novel is like a resting place after reading a lot of xianxia and wuxia novels.

I dropped a lot novels, like ATG, Meng Hao's Novel, etc. But I'm going to finish this one. Lab u ol.

This is a business development slice of life novel, from the point of view of an isekai engineer trying to start an industrial revolution.

The story is relatively interesting, but suffers from a couple major issues, not all of them necessarily the author's fault. First, one of the 'rules' for writing technical information into fiction, if there are such things, is to not write in things that are blatantly or easily proven wrong, unless you also include an explanation for why this is (such as changing the laws of physics). The... more>> usual way of doing this is by not delving into details - like the actual design process - or by substituting fantasy elements; if your fan blades are being spun by magic, you can just say it works rather than trying to fudge in a motor you don't know how to describe. There are sections of the story where this isn't followed and - as plenty of other reviewers have pointed out - falls flat on its face. Could be the author, could be the translator (see below).

Second, specifically affecting the translation and probably not the author's fault, is that technical information is some of the most difficult to translate from Chinese to English, as anyone who's ever read translated assembly instructions can attest. Based on some of the silly mistakes, the translator is either using literal translations that don't work in English, or doesn't understand the meaning behind what they're translating; unfortunately, because this is a novel with technical information, even if its made up, this has a major negative impact on the reading experience.

There is also the use of magical elements, which appears to be giving some reviewers fits, with the assumption being that wind arrays generate wind. Seems logical enough, but it's important to note that in a lot of supernatural traditions (including Chinese) that an element is related to but not the same as the physical phenomenon. Having reread some of the chapters, this is alluded to but not explicitly stated - could be the author or the translator, honestly. Read this way, the arrays manipulating different types of energy, rather than literal wind, water, fire, etc., makes a great deal more sense, imho.

There are also some really weird lines, like how even though a magical machine sells for less than one gold coin, it should still be possible to make seventy golds of profit off each sale. Not sure if this type of error is the author or the translator, but at the very least, somewhere an editor isn't catching it.

The story itself is moderately interesting, but the above issues turn the read into a slog on disturbingly regular basis. A good editor would help immensely. <<less

Actually pretty good. A young and bright mechanical engineer gets transmigrated into the body of an averagely-talented but poor magic student. Instead of pursuing magic in the form of ultimate power residing in his body, he decides to combine his average magic along with engineering know-how to focus on applications of magic embedded in common consumer products instead.

The MC's personality so far has been rational and thoughtful, neither arrogant nor excessively humble. No face-slapping here... if anything, he tries to avoid trouble and is sensitive to the nuances of interpersonal... more>> interaction and reputation (or is made aware pretty soon). And the engineering mindset seems pretty solidly-grounded, though the author doesn't make it overly-technical.

Right now, the sole missing element is that the MC is a bit too successful. It's okay for now since this is still the beginning of the story and some initial success is expected. Going forward, though, it's important to see if the author will make the MC fail at stuff, since we readers don't know whether this story will be just a Gary Stu story of continuous success, or whether there will be actual drama and challenges to keep it interesting. <<less

I am in the middle with this story.

why?

Because of gold. Why? Because this story mainly revolves around a merchant. And even after a few stimulus checks from the Great USA Govt. even I understand that paper money comes from somewhere.

So if we're dealing with a GOLD coin economy, where does the GOLD come from? Especially when the normal joes start buying all his magitech stuff. Also especially when he starts making more money than the kingdom he bases his company in. What? Why would the kingdom mine/make/create less gold than... more>> a merchant company? Is the gold flowing from outside the kingdom? It can't be, because it's clearly stated at times that the 'local's are ones buying stuff.

Does this mean gold is like pennies? All over the place? No, because they clearly do say gold does x, buys y, feeds z amount per month. Etc.

Yeah, I don't think the writer paid attention to ANY economic or business classes during their younger days. Or even googled how an economy gets money and where it comes from and where it goes.

That's why I am rating this a 3. Cuz gold just MAGICALLY appears in the area and it funnels into the hands of farmers and low income people who buy the magitech of the MC. and yet.... the KINGDOM he resides in doesn't seem to have more income than him... what???

So annoying.

revised review due to FINISHING all 8 volumes under machine translations... and yeah

story is see SPOILER:

Spoiler

ENDS at volume 8 final chapter. Cliff hanger way back in 2019. Writer left on hiatus. Story does resolve the fate of 'most' of the MC fellow cast members. So not too much lost there. Ending is kind of 'meh' and then hiatus. google can't find a volume 9....

Author is racist, and describes self-inserted MC as a top engineer, kind, smart and wise. But MC actually is an idiot whose actions just has no blowback to him cause of dumber antagonists.

From V8 C87:

[After discovering the new continent, the European people flooded North America and slaughtered a bunch of native Indians. Then after controlling the North American continent, they imported a lot of black s*aves from the African continent as labourers to build a solid foundation for America.

If it was compared to the Magic Cloud Continent, the Indians should... more>> be the local races that were standing beside him.

But Xu Yi didn't have any ideas of slaughtering them because even if the Frestech Chamber of Commerce could do this, it would mean that they wouldn't have enough manpower to develop the Magic Cloud Continent.

As for the black s*aves, it should be the goblins.

Their intelligence wasn't high and they could do basic labour, the goblins were the same as the black s*aves. They were very suited for doing basic foundational labour.

Moreover, the Frestech Chamber of Commerce could treat the goblins like the American forefathers had treated the black s*aves, Xu Yi didn't feel any guilt from this. ] <<less

Although I personally don't think the fictional mix of technology and magic in the novel is as bad as the other reviewers seem to claim, it is true that the novel's focus on the effects of a fantasy industrial revolution on the economy, political environment, and people's lives is better than the details of how the various technologies work. As the novel progresses and Xu Yi grows from a single engineer to a leader of a rapidly growing enterprise, there is much less emphasis on the world's magic system and... more>> Xu Yi's mechanical engineering knowledge and more emphasis on what decisions Xu Yi has to make and what effects his decisions have on the world. I'm looking forward to seeing the "Empire" aspect of "Magic Industry Empire" since so far Xu Yi has remained mostly within the fields of business and engineering and not so much in politics and war.

Ah, also, the romance in this novel isn't the best but acceptable I think. Based on what I've read so far, Xu Yi is faithful to one girl and a bit dense to the rest. I personally think that Still is the most generic and boring of all the girls so I'm hoping Xu Yi's relationships with the other girls develop further. I'm not expecting too much though since writing romance is always tricky. At any rate, romance remains a subplot in this novel compared to industrialization and business development. <<less

DISCLAIMER: This book is not about a giga brain engineer making spaceships with flint and stone.

If I had to describe the main theme of this novel it would be the MC coming from modern China into a feudal society with s*avering and starting from humble beginnings as a little mage to making a massive corporation.

This novels excels at:

Business, MC introduces many modern models to all sort of industries, farming, construction, mining, Offshore production and many other ideas to maximize the economic growth of his poverty stricken country, making so that... more>> the market expands and his company thrives.

Sociology and multi race dinamics, elves, dwarves, beast men all have already been defeated and exiled to the confines of uninhabited land that humans don't bother looking at, MC works in many societal aspects to grow manpower and business opportunities.

Political intrigue, the political game is not introduced right away, it is detailed and has a very realistic portrait of a around 1400ish england, there's a parlament, filled with different interests and factions, conservatives, liberals, there's also a lot of infighting inside most institutions making so everything has to be carefully considered.

It is by all means a Novel that many who like history, politics and economy would like, with the addition of a concrete romance and fantasy setting that spices things up makes it very enjoyable.

It's a Corporation Building genre if I had to give it a name, he becomes a capitalist but also implements a lot of decisions which are not profit driven, but rather that look at macro economic policies and future development of industries, TBH this guy is the Minister of Industry while running the biggest company and marching forward to make his dream of changing the world with industrial revolution. <<less

While the book has some wasted potential, I enjoy it well enough. It's an event-driven story rather than a character driven story, so sometimes it can feel a bit flat. You probably won't enjoy it if you're expecting something at the level of Release That Witch, but it's an interesting read. A lot of reviewers seem to dismiss stuff for being "unrealistic" when related to the industrial revolution. 1) There's literally magic. 2) The entire background is that the guy was one of the top geniuses of mechanical engineering. If.

At the time of writing this review, I've read the English translation up to c1v137, but if you didn't know, you are able to read a version online translated by machine which I was interested enough in doing. The progression of the story is amazing and I am looking forward to the rest of the human translation in order to flesh out the details more clearly. When you get to halfway through the final volume, the author doesn't give as much detail to events that they have shown previously is... more>> possible. Although I enjoyed the progression of the story up to that point, after that certain point in the story, I felt that the author fast forwarded the story in order to give an open ending that gives an opportunity for more stories in the future. <<less

I don't know about other people but I like this novel a lot. I can't understand what is the problem with these people, what do you expect out of a guys who is sent to new world.

This novel was good. Yes has people said there is no magic element except the word magic but the industrialisation was good.

If you want see some story where the MC is just building and industry empire this is it for you.

I usually like this genre of books, however this one was just so annoying that I have to drop it. Apart from what has already been pointed out by others; namely that it is a copy + paste of other novels and that the ML has as much character and charisma as tomato & Lettice sandwich; my main issue with the novel lies in the following;

Why even bother to have the ML reincarnate into a Magical World only to spend the whole book expounding on how superior science/ technology is... more>> and how primitive the magical society is? Its just too far-fetched, you really think a society with overwhelming magical power cant evolve enough to even have the basic luxuries that the real world had even before the industrial revolution?

It reminds me of another troupe I hate in Chinese novels where the protagonist will go to the "West" usually Europe or the US to study (let’s say Western Medicine) and then after graduating with Honours comes back and says they prefer Chinese Medicine as its superior - then why have the whole story line in the first place??? Just study Chinese medicine.

Another example is when they ask “do you want Western or Chinese food”? The answer is ALWAYS Chinese food “as western food is too greasy and unhealthy and tastes bad” or “all I ate while I was in the West is hamburgers and fries as there is no other food there to eat” (WTH? Meanwhile there is literally numerous Chinese restaurant/ grocery store in every other city/ town/ village, in the UK at least). Like I know its Chinese people being patriotic and the books are targeted at Chinese audiences, however I think the message could be told without wasting pages on a useless rhetoric.

Anyway, the story isn’t bad, it’s just a bit ridiculous plot wise. <<less

The top comments are the most hilarious hypocriticity I've seen so far. But this is fault of the story as it fails to give a proper explanation for non-savvy people.

The magic array inside fan ROTATES wind AROUND it, not blows it forward. Blades are the ones who moves the wind forward.

Meanwhile the logic plothole was: A fan doesn't decrease temperature, it actually increases it. AC is the one who decreases air temperature

I usually like kingdom building or development using modern knowledge. But this is absolutely horrible.. the main character is a push over. Allowing others to screw him over, supposedly claims he prefers building things to help progress instead of taking lives but readily confirms and agrees to weapons development..

And the love interest feels

Iike it was shoved down our throats. Forceful with no proper chemistry or development between characters. Totall forced.

And this also suffers the typical china manhua weakness of shallow and superficial characters. ReallY gave it a shot but hope...

I don't like the novel.

Besides the fact that MC is a pushover (give in to others) and he is "weak" in a magic continent. It's like "hey I'm weak and have many gold and stuffs, come rob me". It's common sense to have strength to protect your wealth or you don't show your wealth openly, like duh! Use another identity or something.
