She is an honorably retired SWAT officer with meritorious deeds and is a dashing detective who solves cases like a god.

One day, a strange golden board with eight divinatory trigrams brings her to a different world, where she is bestowed as a gift to a general’s manor.

He is a grim god of war whose power overwhelms six countries and the defender-general of the state with military power in his hands. An imperial edict brought him a delicate concubine. He turned and left. After returning, his second in command and soldiers ignored him. Instead, they kept on saying, “What does madam think?”

When has the general’s manor changed its owner?

Solving cases, training soldiers, night attacks, suppressing bandits, street fights, counter-terrorism operations, naval battles – one after another appeared on stage. She played with flourish, yet he was unable to resist even a little.

This is the first time I read a Mistaken Marriage Match installment. Haha. I read this first before the first book about Zhou Qing and the Prime Minister. Oh well. It can be a stand-alone, but there are still some points that might bring you a 'huh' if you did not read the other books (1 and 3)

Ahhh!!! I finished this for only 2 days (considering I have classes). Now I want to binge read the other books too. Still, I need to restrain myself! The 3rd book is... more>> much more longer than this. E. The 4th book's translation is still not finished..

I want to know if there's a Su successor (Gu Yun and Su Ling's son) and a crown successor (did Qing Feng gave birth to a son? Who became the crown prince?)

  1. Spoiler

the only thing I know is Zhou Qing gave birth to a twin boy and girl

brb crying I wrote my review and it disappeared on me q__p

Here's my first review and it's a funny coincidence that I'm writing it for the story I've been eyeing since before I made my account. I finally picked it up this weekend and started reading it after deciding to just skip the reviews and give it a shot. Which... I don't totally regret.

With this trope, I knew MC was going to be OP. I knew she would be obstinate and would clash personalities. I enjoyed the first 10 or... more>> 15 chapters. But there were some issues along the way that would trip me up.

I'm dropping this story for 2 reasons: I feel like the chapters are incomplete and I feel like the characters' personalities changed.

This story is considered a sequel, but it's more accurate to call it a parallel. The two translators I read (first 2) both ended up adding the chapters for the prequel. I skipped them - my goal was to read about GY. I wanted military this time around, that's the flavor for the week! Those chapters, the first story, might be necessary though. At parts, this story feels like an afterthought.

Spoiler

The chapter where GY and ZQ meet again after their transmigration was short and an afterthought. It wasn't even a summary, it was bullet point notes. ZQ was her goal and motivation during her early transmigration period and there was nothing for it. This might disappoint me the most since I wanted to see what these two friends could achieve.

Not even going into the romance portion - but also where did all these love interests come from?? I knew from the way they were giving her attention but also golly gee... HUH?

[collapse]

So plot progression felt stilted even to me, and I consider myself to be really easy going with stories. I can't tell you if reading the prequel helps, at this point in time I won't be touching the series.

With the choppy plot comes choppy character development. My OP girlboss disappeared and ended up feeling like a huffy 2nd or 3rd female lead deal. I felt no romance between any of the characters, at this stage a camaraderie between the MC and ML would make sense. For how long these chapters are, it was a surprise LOL

Even though the reviews were split, I still felt there was enough support to give this popular josei story a try. Gathering my thoughts, I actually think I am disappointed, it had potential.

Also would like to say that I only read 2 translations. I'll admit that Nutty wasn't as polished as Clover, but regardless both were confusing to navigate. I recommend using their table of contents rather than clicking next post.

Final score: 2/5. <<less

The beginning is so well-written. It's so good in action, martial arts and showcased how she can get other people's trust. It's so interesting, really. But then it goes meh fast. 4 stars is up to chapter 19 I guess. Two things made me drop this novel. First is ML's whole personality being just an angry peacock. I've read half of the novel and every scene he has would be just him being grumpy, being angry, and being unreasonably strict. If I were in MC's place I would ignore him every time because of his personality - even bickering is a waste of time. For second, see spoiler.
Spoiler

MC has zero EQ. She strings along two men unconsciously. The moment that made me drop this novel is when second ML is very busy with his affairs. MC, being so meddlesome, chased him through dark alleys because she knew he had an injury. They already made eye contact and second ML still ran away from her, obviously he's busy. Why would you even chase him when you already know he's involved in something? And afterwards when he stopped his business to bring her away from the scene, she then said "It seems you're busy, don't mind me. You go back do your thing." wth girl???? Because of her meddling, second ML'S weakness got exposed to the enemy.

It started nicely but it became so s*upid I quit reading. An ancient Chinese concubine strolling at night wherever she wants, drinking heavily, passing nighttime with male mates - and her husband watching her from aside - looks like both FL and ML are completely degenerative.
The FL behavior from an Ancient Chinese point of view is quite prostituting - and t can be funny until she is just easygoing with soldiers under her command but it becomes totally unbelievable when she provokes her male benefactor in very direct ways.... more>>
Spoiler

An Ancient Chinese war general watches the girl living in his estate, his 'gift', being carried by another man, his love rival, in his arms in the middle of the night just in front of him after battling with him - and then she COMES BACK like it's all right and he says 'Don't do that again'. What can be even more s*upid?

[collapse]

Spoiler

A 15-year old body trained to withstand attacks of mature male fighters? Really?!

[collapse]

My main complaint is that the novel is marked 'jose' which means it should not strike people older 15 as really s*upid.

As for characters and writing - there's no need to discuss such matters here because they just don't exist. The author herself doesn't feel her characters, they act out of a number of standard features like 'stubborn', 'proud', insensitive' etc. The balance between the plot, emotions and background is zero. Military training at first looks interesting (though too long) and used to reveal the FL nature and professional skills as well as introduce side characters and start interactions, but later it becomes an ordeal for the reader rather than the soldiers. <<less

I don't know what to say about this. I have a mix feeling regarding this novel. I love this story because of the OP MC and HATE IT because the grammatical errors in the novel in the middle of the story. At first there wasn't much obvious errors but later on the quality of translation went downhill. For example, there is one dialogue that I don't know whether to laugh or cry: "kitchen gives them dinner". Translator, did you just literally translate from chinese?? Weren't you trying to say that... more>> the kitchen helpers are required to pass the food to the soldiers?? It irks me to no end that sometimes I can't really follow what the MC is trying to say or even any of the characters were trying to say. Translator really need a grammar checker or an editor. Overall, thanks for your hard work translator but you need help. <<less

So apparently no one on earth in this novel can understand their own damn feelings.

The MC is so stubborn that she won't explain a single thing she says. She will just instantly explode at the ML and not explain why.

She notices the complex emotions in the ML but she is so oblivious to basic human emotions.

... more>> It turns from a good story about her utilizing swat techniques into the military to a crime/shoujo novel where two guys are after the MC but she doesn't understand emotions targeted towards her.

It got annoying really fast. <<less

As of Ch16-4.

An interesting story. The premise isn't unique: modern age female officer transmigrated into a weak woman's body in an unfamiliar world. Her headstrong and unique skills forces her to have conflicts with her arranged husband, who is a war hero of his own right.

What stands out in this story is the characterization of the MC. Whereas other titles like "Descent of the Phoenix" basically had a tsundere MC who can't help but be attracted to the male lead quickly, Gu Yun is determined to hold her own and... more>> break the mold of the domestic woman expected of her.

The main focus of the early chapters is how Gu Yun shocks the male-dominated military household and staff of the male lead, eventually getting their respect and even their hopes for her to be their general's true wife. The male lead on the other hand isn't quite as developed thus far except for his brusque manner and frustration at being unable to understand the modern mindset of Gu Yun. He is intrigued but still suspicious, somewhat attracted and yet uneasy when dealing with this woman who is like a panther, prowling and stalking.

Imagine a "Beauty And The Beast" like story, focusing more on a military-minded Belle, while the Beast can only grunt and smoulder in private anger because he is unable to do anything to bring her under control. Now imagine we're only 1/3 of the movie in according to the translation's pace, and we know next to nothing about the Beast.

It is a good read thus far. But listed complete with only 43 chapters, I hope the pace picks up somewhat quickly.

Read it now if you want a truly focus-minded female MC. <<less

Gu Yun is a badass. Not the fragile-girly type who always needs protection. Su Yu is adorable. So are the swords. On the other hand, Su Ling is.. Pitiful in a way. Kkk. Characters are very appealing. I can’t seem to hate any of them. Even the minor ones like Gu Yun’s trained newbies are likable. It’s not just full of action pact, the story is humorous that always keep me reading. With additional romance (?) on the side. The strategies and such are also easily understood. (I’m the type... more>> who is no good on those types so it was helpful) All in all, this is one of the best stories I’ve ever read. <<less

10/5 Perfect

I can't remember how many times have I read this repeatedly because it is a masterpiece.

It's one of my all time favorite. I love our MC's personality and the process on how she trains her elite forces. I enjoy every second of her trying to solve thoses cases (sometimes with her forensic friend too, I recommend that novel as well if you love medical related genre).

... more>> I love our ML as well, he's probably the strongest general i've ever read in all historical related novels I saw haha.

I forgot the name of the ML brother but it's sad that he fell in love with our MC (who wouldn't).

Anyway, the MC handles situations maturely and I'm glad she is partnered with this type of ML.

Idk what to say but yoi won't regret reading this.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I quite enjoyed the beginning and really adore the strong FL trope but over time, FL just keep disappointing me. When she was training soldiers, she told them to remain calm etc etc but when it is her own problem, she’s the most impulsive, reckless.. Well, she’s very oblivious too, not only to the guys’ feelings around her but also to the ancient culture. Each time she faced our ML, she’s always acted unreasonably which keep repeating for God know how long and it became boring since it was overused.... more>> They can’t even communicate. They just keep arguing over the s*upidest thing eventhough there’s nothing to argue about. I tried to like her, but it’s just impossible.

I love this novel! It's too short for me but very satisfying💙
I will give this 5 stars as it's one of the best! On par with the novel that I like, " Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage"
Spoiler

Some downside (not really)

The ML and FL sometimes would do something s*upid to save someone or each other but they are not unreasonable.

There is a misunderstanding which was easily cleared up--a bit disappointing but I guess it's okay.

You have to look for another website as chapter 30 is hard to read.

I will still give it 5 stars anyway.

I love this MC, and that's what makes me so sad about this. The translation was juggled between three teams. The first translator was amazing, no complaints there. The second translator was a little rough around the edges at first, but they got an editor so it was fine. The last translator was god-awful and no book is good enough to make me read that mess. Honestly, if you think it's worth suffering through the basically MTL at the end (about a fourth of the book) then I'd wholeheartedly recommend... more>> it. <<less

Out of the 3 novels of Mistaken Marriage Match, this one is my favorite. The MC is a bad-ass character and our ML is not the typical 'overbearing and possessive type' in most novels. The plot is good and I couldn't ask for more. Romance in the story is enough (for me) because the plot literally covered up the lackness of it. Excuse for my grammar, please. I honestly prefer this one rather than the first series (MC with a prime minister)

A strong female character that transmigrates into a patriarchal world, who manages to prove herself as a strong warrior and challenges the old-fashioned views of women that the male characters have. While starting off with a weak body, she works hard to improve her strength.

What I liked about this is that the three brothers are good men. Many transmigration stories have men that can't let go of old prejudices, but that is not the case here. The three brothers actually respect our MC for her smarts and fighting skills, and... more>> many of their soldiers feel the same.

If you like strong a strong MC and decent ML, I would highly recommend this. <<less

This is the 2nd book of the Mistaken Marriage Match series, you might want to read Record of Washed Grievances first to get a better understanding of the whole plot.

I was really torn in rating this novel because I really loved it but also felt really...... disappointed.

I loved Gu Yun a lot but the way the author wrote the story was underwhelming. The plot points are there, she had a really interesting story to tell but it fell short in a lot of ways. Side characters are all dispensable, they're... more>> always forgotten down the line and that was really sad because they're all equally interesting!
Spoiler

The Su brothers, Su Ren and Su Yu, they're supposed to be part of the family but they were brushed off. Su Military/Gray Hawk, esp that cook that has great marksmanship, weren't we supposed to learn more about his background? Ao Tian, nuff said. Mu Yi and Mu Cang. Heck even the whole Su Clan who's supposed to have a gathering wasn't introduced.

[collapse]

I'm not sure why but it seems the author got bored with it and winged the latter part of the story.

Nonetheless, I give this novel 3 stars mainly because of how our MC was written. She was kinda OP, which I didn't mind, but still has the vulnerability that balances it. The theme of the story was my cup of tea as well so it helped boost the rating lol. <<less

Friendly Reminder To New Reader; Shouldn't read this 'BEFORE' [A Mistaken Marriage Match: Record of Washed Grievances] for better grasp/understanding of the story plot.

In this book, there's quite a few 'chopping-off' scene, (in other word, unrepeate scene to be mention).

The story structure quite good as the plot-driven and FL build up her character, BUT!! Later she turn out to be quite unreasonable.

Contrary of her profession achivement, For being a-modern-27yrs old-soul, yet she so immature/childish when its come about romance...

And, just same as the 1st book, there's an abrupt ending.. huhu
