A back-to-basics(?) monster evolution novel.

A new VRMMORPG, “World of Yggdrasia”, was recruiting beta testers from all over the world. Ten thousand testers began their journey of swords and sorcery in a new realm, one that was as large as Earth.

At the same time, a clandestine experiment was underway. Unbeknownst to the world at large, 100 secret alpha testers were given bodies of monsters and summoned to the same land.

The girl of white was one such tester. Despite the odds against her, she continued to evolve again and again. To rebel against the real world’s invasion, she would become a most terrible beast, the destroyer of worlds… the Bunny Girl!

“…wait, what? Me?”

Our protagonist would survive, unyielding, knowing no despair.

A fantastic, fast paced, monster isekai-ish leveling revenge novel. It has a good MC with thought out character development and interesting side characters (both villains and friends).

Although the story kind of derails towards the end the novel is short enough to not keep the good parts hostage and the excellent translation lifts it an extra notch.

thank you author-kun and translator-kun, very nice

I would have loved to give a 5 but the plot hole, and slightly forced plot make it just below (It's still a 4.5 in my heart). The story narrate the struggle of a child (only 11y) to survive, grow, and fight from salvation of her 99 comrades.

She smart but young, her plan are far from perfect and is aware of that. She OP but can still lose against the violence of number. And she's have no mercy but still soft to innocent who suffer and in her hand reach.

Spoiler

I had a slight reluctance with the VRMMO world beeing a real world type-plot but it still good play here as at some point, some player seek the truth themself.

The antagonist Brian is a bit to much cliche and his end is too peacefull for me.

And Earth human, too greedy and s*upide. I would have loved if she just genocide Earth humanity but I guess some are still worth mercy (Jessica and co)

Spoil about my bad view in the end:

Spoiler

The end was a 'strenght of friendish' bulshitt with a lot of sacrifice of mob character and the MC realising she's not fighting alone. Still disapointed with how she still get cold feet in sacrifice a lot of people against the last boss but oh well, it's still finish with a happy ending.

It's basically an isekai world disguised as game world by a group of scientists who's backed by the governments trying to exploit the source of energy from another world : Mana. Follows the protagonist, one of the guinea pigs for the experiment of sending people to another world to harvest the mana, she slowly learns the secret of the project and the truth behind mana and the world.

The character building is very enticing, not too many side-stories, and a clear goal of what the MC wants to do.
Too bad it is kinda... short, in a way. Wish we get to know more about the other characters from earth especially the "players".

First off, I think this is a great novel with excellent pacing and story development. Not too ambitious yet not amateurish. It accomplishes its goal pretty well and wraps it up in a nice 100 chapter package that you can read through in about a week or two days like yours truly.

I really like the author and all of his other works. While I think this novel is a bit less intriguing than for example the also excellent "Demon Noble Girl ~Story of a Careless Demon~" it is better because... more>> it does not drag on too much while surprising the reader every chapter or so with new story elements and new points of view. Sometimes the author repeats some things and retells the happenings from different points of view within even the same chapter. I don't dislike this way of storytelling and I like to see through multiple character's eyes because it can lead to a more engaging world.

Story elements don't come out of nowhere like in other novels but they are planned ahead, some even since the beginning of the novel. This is why I think this novel can be reread multiple times with every reread being more rewarding. (But I'm not the type to reread the same book twice)

Now for the spoilers:

Spoiler

The main character has grown up in an abusive household and even after she has been "rescued" from her mother she gets into another, arguably worse hell. This is the reason why she chooses 'Demon' at the start of the novel. As she travels the world, meeting with more and more people, she discovers the way that people outside of her restrictive bubble live. How they laugh, love and prosper. At first, she doesn't care but when she gets her kin by her side, her now demon heart starts to understand human emotions. In the end, she chooses both godly powers (her human side) and demonic ones (her demon side) reflecting the fissure in her heart.

[collapse]

Spoiler

A former human who lived without love for the longest time, now one of the most cunning and selfish creatures in the universe finds out what being a human is actually like. This is the central element of the story. Not the awe-inspiring battles but this huge conflict in her tiny heart.

Potentially troubling content: mention of r*pe, mu*der, lots of violence but no gratuitous gore, descriptions of torture, child abuse, s*avery, swearing

I've had a hard time finding web novels or light novels with female protagonists that are also action-adventure oriented but this one scratches all my itches. I will say up front, there are a lot of similarities to other popular light novels (Kumo, Slime...) but don't let it turn you off. This is definitely not just a knock-off.

I read the whole thing in two days. The main character is cool,... more>> sympathetic, and practical-minded. The sci-fi aspects are reasonable. This novel is not particularly focused on worldbuilding (people speak a "common language", magic just works, game mechanics are typical, etc.) so do not expect anything new on that front. The story is extremely plot-driven and spends very little time on character-building aside from the main character. However, there are still plenty of side-characters who show up with their own charming quirks to enjoy. Even the main character's development over the whole story is quite "tell" rather than "show" and I think that speaks to the somewhat rushed feeling of the novel on the whole.

I haven't read the author's other novels but I am interested now. I would love if this novel turned into a video game itself! I know I am criticizing it a lot for a 4 star review, but that is just because I enjoyed it a lot and with a good editor or support team it could be even better. <<less

This rewiew is maybe really shallow and is my first but I don't care. There was some flaws, a LOT of things left to be explored and expanded on. But I didn't really notice anything until the end. The only thing I don't like about it is that there is too little of it. In general I had a blast reading it. I would defenetly recommend it.

This story is absolutely great!!! It was the first one that made me like it so much I had to register and write a review for it. The world building and main character growth are first class and it actually has support characters that are not just stick figures! If you’re looking for a strong main character that it not quite OP but can develop with out cringe worth drama then this is the story for you. And it’s actually completed so I don’t have to sit around... more>> for an update ? <<less

It was a fun read. Its mostly watching the MC become stronger and stronger and kill the "bad guys" (which is almost everyone). Read PersonaJXT's review which is an accurate description of the flaws on this novel. Anyway, plot is kinda forced and characters aren't really characters, just plot devices or things to make shedy appear justified. But still, I did read all 100 chapters and it kept me engrossed, so it serves as decent entertainment.

the start of the novel is really interesting as you see the MC just trying to survive and get stronger. The start to move on to the next ark before it gets boring and it's really entertaining to see how the MC grows and how she acts.

i would say that this is one of my favourite novels I have read, the world building is good and the MC is really entertaining and charming.

Its a nice story, but at around the half way point it becomes tedious since the character development stops and it feels like just going down a checklist.

The feeling I get is that the author doesnt know how to just leave loose ends and has to force everything into being resolved. This sadly comes at the expense of the development of the characters and makes for a very linear story once you get the general idea.

Spoiler

Its once she gets to the world tree that everything falls apart. Instead of empowering her and putting her on a save the world quest, the author would have needed to trip her up and ruin her salvation plans, hence leading her to change further, not getting so OP and dont letting the rest of the novel getting predictable.

This novel really have certain flaws but overall, the story was good, a bit dark but very heartwarming. It is one of the novels youve read and finished that would make you feel sad, happy and uplifting. I really dont regret reading this novel.

This doesnt deserve a 5 star but this novel has a certain charm that touched a very deep place in my heart.

Absolutely love it, wished it was longer but at the same time think it was a good choice to end it where it stopped. Really like the interface used and the specific mechanics in the game like demons having no "HP" and only lives off mana and their "combat power" being based off their left-over mana.

Easily the best VR novel I've ever read.

Plot: 5/5

Spoiler

The story starts out pretty solid. There's decent exposition without burdening you with inane details. The thing that I like the most is how the writing knows where to pull your attention to. Rarely did I ever feel the urge to skim through sentences and go straight to the action. Contrast to other CN/JP novels which- no offense- tend to bury you with red herrings to make the illusion of importance. Really, the problem with VG-themed novels is that the "Power ranking" eventually loses its novelty after the first 50 or so chapters, when the protagonist finally gets strong enough. We know the protag always gets stronger, but it's HOW they do so that makes a novel absolutely enjoyable. Subverted here, where the protagonist is eventually faced with Big Flying Spaghetti Monster™ and needs to gather all the world's Natural Energies™. Sounds familiar? *Cough* Dragon Ball *cough*.

Even so, it's the constant threat of destruction- and the acceptance that humanity is utter sh*t and beyond saving- that spurs our protagonist forward. Practically abandoned by two worlds, she tries her damnest to save this one for the sake of avenging The Kids Next Door. Number Uno, especially, deserves a reward for putting up with the role of "I gotta die but I also, like, need to leave behind this important info so you can inherit my powers".

He will be remembered.

Characters: 5/5

Spoiler

The characters were utterly refreshing to read. As the author said, Shedy's growth as a character is something of an inversion of common Isekai/VR/Power-ranking protagonists. Shedy does eventually get strong, yes. However, reading this novel, I felt empathetic to the protagonist more than any other. Her background is tragic. She's the result of a failing system. I felt a lot of things as I read through the novel, and I couldn't get my mind off of how lonely our protagonist is. And yet, unlike your typical isekai story, she doesn't look towards building relationships with other characters. Then it hits you that this is just an 11 year-old girl who's never had to experience a proper childhood. Sure, there were some surreal moments (like when our protag was able to effectively threaten The President™), but hey- we love it when they do that.

Protip: Completely disregard the fact that she's a bunny and you get Intergalactic Wonderwoman. Just like the way I pretend that CN novels and their batsh*t plotholes don't exist.

[collapse]

Setting: 5/5

Spoiler

If you're still reading this, hot damn! Right, so the story- I love the way it puts the "fantasy world" trope into the overall plot. The map, god bless, is wonderful. It puts an image to our protagonist's crusade all across the world, and sort of grounds it with our imagination.

[collapse]

TLDR:

Please. Read this novel. I swear on me mum, you won't regret it.

Blademaster Hero is the epitome of the Harem MC with plot armor. Gold deserves an Oscar award for Best Character Development. This novel takes a piss on every single overused trope, sets it on fire, and hurtles it through a black hole. <<less

I enjoyed this. Despite there being one or two plotlines I thought wasn't that great. The Government is involved I feel to be kind of weak. Especially the cliche of the Government messing with powers they don't fully understand.

The MC is honestly pretty fun to see being OP. I dislike one of the antagonists named Brian. He's just so cartoonishly evil that it takes me a bit out of the story.

The MC being pretty much by herself is kind of nice that we don't have any annoying side characters. I... more>> do kind of dislike that there is barely any friendly characters. Most humans are instantly evil and agree with s*avery. So it's a bit over the top. I'd prefer if we had more of a character that may not be a traveling companion, But someone at her Base of Operations. Really only the Monkey and Slime are traveling with her.

I'd prefer if a character like Audrey was in this story. She's the assistant to the evil people but has a good side and dislikes what they are doing. My personal want is for the MC to bring Audrey to this world and have her serve the MC. I also like the idea that she gets turned into something like a Fox Spirit so the MC can Muffu her

Edit: 10-8-19 Chapter 101

I just finished the story and I am pleased with it. I do find many issues with the story and it does become all about the MC being OP. A lot of the plotlines seem random, weird or forced and whatnot.

There are some characters that had buildup but were killed off like nothing with no real story arc. Such as the Sage. She looked to be becoming more of a villain that will see the errors of her way. There was even a scene in her second to the last scene where it seemed like she would take responsibility or change a new leaf. But she then appears and spouts some nonsense and dies.

I'd put the story at 3-4 stars after further review of the story. <<less

TBH I feel the tr*shiness of the humans in "game" is overdone.

Kinda enjoyable I guess tho.

The similarities to the author's other work makes the story seem repetitive to me, and the writing style is not for me, despite the good translations. However, I've come this far, and it hasn't been all unenjoyable. Blobsy kept me reading.

The plot, while following along with the theme of living in a game world, gives a darker view than most other novels with the same theme. The protagonist is really intelligent and pretty cold, but not to the point that the reader can empathize with her. Also the plot progresses pretty quickly, so the reader won't get bored by a bunch of filler chapters. And the translations are done really well at a pretty quick pace. I personally don't read too many dark novels, but after giving this a try... more>> it's become one of my favorites. I would reccomend this novel to people who want to read a novel with a female protagonist who's smart and capable, and want a plot that gives a pretty dark but fresh look onto the transmigration into a game world sub genre. <<less

I like this story and I love the author's "Tale of a lax demon" too. Also I actually like the MC of this story more out of the two, just my personal taste. It is also kind of funny that I kept relating this to chinese's fantasy novels, haha may be it's just me.

Spoiler

A bit disappointed that there was no interaction between this and the other novel but oh well.

I approved of her actions so far because she barely has a choice if she wants to survive she can't lead a rebellion, push a reform or rescue the demi-humans she just doesn't have enough power, influence or wealth to do anything beyond what's in front of her.
