I just think it's really funny that those absolutely disgusting novels about turning disabled family members and bedridden hospital patients into mind controlled meat toilets get such amazing rating yet people see two young girls on the cover and immediately spam 1 star ratings even though there's nothing suggestive in the tags or synopsis, not even a harem tag, which is already a +1 star to me, non-isekai is another +1. Anyway, so far we're only two chapters in and haven't even met the twins yet but I like what... more>> I'm seeing so far, we have an MC with something special about him who already have two things about him that separate him from the average beta male japanese MC. He isn't all strung up about trying to hide his uniqueness and actually has the unflinching resolve to show no mercy to those that mean him harm. There's always the possibility that my rating will change as the story advances but for now I'm kicking it off with my own 5 star rating. Hopefully this encourages the translator to continue. <<less

I know some people want their super-invincible protagonists, but when you break your rules of magic in the same sentence that establishes them, your worldbuilding fails hard, and later events just pile up on the "this is garbage" feeling.

The first chapter is where you establish your main character and the world setting. What I get out of the first chapter is that the MC is an arrogant ass that isn't limited by the world's rules, and that he likes showing off his god-like abilities, and mocking and killing people. The... more>> second chapter 'tells' you that that really isn't the case, but that mostly tells you that the author doesn't know how to make the actions match the words.

In the first chapter, I don't get any hint of what the world itself is like, other than it has trees that people will burn down without any concern, and some sort of magic system which the MC can blithely ignore the rules of (and, based on the title of the novel, is only scratching the surface of how ludicrously overpowered the MC will be). Also, random enemies that are probably meant to be Cartoonishly Evil, but that actually make the MC look like a Cartoonishly Evil Villain.

Chapter 2 makes it worse, as the attackers were literally a completely random encounter, not even of any consequence to the MC, as he didn't even know who they were. The second chapter does add a little more worldbuilding, but mostly just decoration to say that the world is s*upid and crapsack, so that we can celebrate all the killing that the MC is likely to get up to.

The cover and description (with the twins) made me think that there was some chance that this might be trying a formula similar to Reincarnated As A Sword. However the first couple chapters made me realize that this is far more likely to take the bad parts of Death March instead, combined with maximum edgy feels.

I give it 2 stars because the translation isn't horrible, and the translator was quick to adopt labeling for the characters who were speaking, which is something many translators can't even be bothered with. <<less

So, this is a boring story. Slow, written so that an event happens once every many chapters, and all the in between time is just characters nattering about really badly done world building. Fights happen semi-frequently, but they're never written at all interestingly, or dynamically, just a mess of passe statements. I'm not fussed about poorly defined rules or power systems or whatnot, but if you write the fights badly then that stuff doesn't matter. That's basically the problem - poor writing.

MC has basically no personality, he just spends his... more>> days undertaking jobs to earn money, and that's about it. Everyone around him calls him interesting when he moroses (does a morose) at them, but I really can't see what they all see. Author seems to be vaguely trying to give him a war trauma ish backstory, maybe sorta, but it's not consistent at all. Like, what prompted this review was a passage in ch23 where he inner monologues about his past, and all I could think was "nothing up to now really backs up this stuff at all". But at the very least, what was written in said passage seems more interesting than what we have here, in the story we got. So, author, is this the most interesting part of this characters life? If not, why aren't you telling us that instead?

For those wondering, there is no real relationship between the characters on the cover, creepy or wholesome. They have basically not interacted at all at this point, he just put them up at a place and wandered off to farm tr*sh mobs for ages, again and again, and do other similarly compelling jobs. And that's it. I just explained all the plot that happened in 23 chapters.

Anyways, the protip to take away from this review is to read it (my review, that is) whilst inserting a sigh after every sentence, as then you will more correctly simulate the mood I was in when I wrote it. So bored of this novel. Honestly, people who judged it a boring piece of nothing after the first 2 chapters or whatever, were entirely correct. <<less

For those of you reading the synopsis, don't expect the twins or the blue hair girl to be the main focus.
Spoiler

Ardis spends most of his time alone dealing with every enemy he encounters without much difficulty, leaving Nere to look after the twins. They will have limited focus themselves as the story progresses. As it turns out that Ardis is from different world and is trying to figure out how to get back to it. Nere's origins are still left untouched as to who she is, the mystery of her power, and why she feels the need to have a master to serve. Later on Ardis will enounter characters who would have their own mini arc focused on them. Beware of volume 19, as it tells of Ardis's tragic past. As well as the origin of the goddess who is worshipped in the world Ardis now lives in and the origin of hatred of twins.

If you enjoy an OP MC fighting his way through victory after victory, then this story is good. But if you expect him to focus on the twins and the blue hair girl, then you'll be disappointed.

The writing style is crisp, nothing hidden that we need to know right now. The plot is straight shot. You introduce slices of life and culture immediately, clear indication that the author isn't messing around. No fillers, that we see right now.

The MC isn't an Omega or a Beta, which makes us salute that he's a straight shooter and a powerful one. Additional setting is that everyone is in a scramble for the "Latest Firearm" deal.

Then we learn that this is a isekai, but almost the same pattern as "Tsuki... more>> ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu". So the author is keeping hidden what happened between an Overseer an the MC. Which keeps people in anticipation and come back for more.

This is showing promise right now. <<less

The story is bland, not something I would recommend to read other than for wasting time.

The good thing was, MC not afraid to kill others unlike your generic naive op protagonist, but that's about it, I don't feel any empathy with the MC making me uninterested with the story right away.

The story is very simple, MC found twins, willing to take care of them, and then doing the usual adventure routine. Get a job, trip, do the job, trip home, end, forget, with taking care of twins somewhere in that... more>> process.

The characters also don't portray any personalities, the author put a lot of characters that I couldn't even care about their existence, why they're fighting together with MC, what are they capable of doing. I just seemingly don't care as I'm more focussed on the twins in the Synopsis, which I know the story will proceed with the twins and MC at the center. Unfortunately, the twins don't even have enough development until now.

The author seemingly trying to prolong the story by writing a lot of unnecessary adventure that doesn't contribute anything to the main story. Forget it, the author can't even introduce MC properly.

I'm still reading this, so I hope this is just the author holding back, not the best of his writing. <<less

The story is slow but it has a very solid build, the MC upholds to his own values and does not let other people to change it just because is the common thing to do, MC also is very strong but does not let that get the better of him, or at least he tries to not let it get the better of him and also he does not shows a shred of remorse to people who tries to attack him or rob him for whatever reasons. And we can... more>> see that not everyone can be an as*hole to children just because your common sense tells they deserve whatever punishment for something they didn't do
Spoiler

like Ardis friends (the ones who are trying to win him over to be their party member)

.

Is not the best but is a very good read, the translator has a few mistakes when spelling or trying to trying to translate some phrases. But is not something that disrupts the reading (most of the time). <<less

The story might start slow but it will gain pace quickly. You might think that this is simple overpower novel with easy set-up and some comedy lol, not yet, wait until youre around chapter 250 then the story will turn dark, more complicated, gory and harsher.

  • I have to agree the beggining chapter might seems boring but it is just a precursor for greater tale. Some people write review despite just reading few chapter and talk crap about it.
  • Tbh I was totally blown by the fact that the writter has plan this series right from the beginning bcs you cant guess the latest chapter from the beginning. It is totally a pleasent plot twist that is well done. Let see if the story will turn better or crappy after this... afterall we are almost at the last or probably nearing the end unless the writter pull some more hidden card

DO NOT READ THE MANGA. IT STARTS OFF THE SAME AS THE NOVEL BUT IT CHANGES INTO A MUCH WORSE AND DIFFERENT STORY WITH DIFFERENT CHARACTERS AND STORYTELLING ARCS.

I've recently caught up and currently the MC's backstory is being explored, and I have to say this has to be one of the most brutal and horrific, but interesting arcs I have ever seen. It's absolutely agonizing having to wait for a new chapter cause of how unexpected and unpredictable everything is. You picture one thing, but then there's reasonable plot... more>> twists everywhere that you wouldn't have expected the author to be capable of going for. It's just amazing.

This has to be one of the better novels I have read in a while. I'm really not sure why people are discriminating about the twins, but this novel has an extremely interesting plot, although the twins themselves are not involved in many of the arcs but are essential to the ongoing large hidden story arc behind the whole Goddess which is largely tied with Ardis's backstory and why he hates the Goddess. Another concern I had when I first started was that I didn't want the twins growing up and starting to romantically like Ardis, and thank god that doesn't happen. They have a subtle and wholesome relationship that develops over time, and Ardis continues to care for them as children with one more person to help who is introduced. There actually is no romance or harem in this series which is a huge plus for me, and the one love relationship Ardis does have with someone isn't introduced until much later.

Ardis's power is also a part of the overall mystery regarding his identity, because no one in the world has ever heard of his sword arts or chantless magic. It's clear from the start he feels very military equipped, and this makes the battles with him very interesting, since this isn't just a novel where the Ardis easily continues to beat all his enemies. While he is strong, there are still people who can fight evenly with him, and what makes it interesting is that the Ardis is open to killing people as a solution. There are also strong reasons behind why the Ardis is so open to killing people as a solution for his problems (discussed in backstory spoilers) that make it evident that the author thought out his character well. Characters introduced are usually all interesting with their own quirks and jobs, and Ardis is great at manipulating people for information he needs.

Some spoilers on the MC's real identity and backstory thus far (ongoing and best arc for me) :

Spoiler

He is from another world where war is common, and he is currently in his 30s. He was transported after a large war into the current world they live in where they don't teach sword arts, and 1 year in the world is also about a month in his original world. He's in his 30s in his original world, but for some reason, his body changed to the immortal body of a child. He was raised and abused in an underground facility in his original world where children were locked up, and he managed to escape and become part of a mercenary squad. Here, the author expands the world of the mercenary largely, as something desperate, needed, and brutal. It's a world where you can either kill or be killed. It has some extremely brutal war moments, betrayal, decapitation, gore, and essentially shows how Ardis learns to adjust and become a real mercenary. He is trained as a colder person, forced to even kill children on the battlefield, even if he's far from his current self in terms of how easily he can kill people. He's part of Westeria, a wholesome, and connected band of mercenaries who are doing what they can to survive. There's infiltrations, s*xual abuse, and mentions of r*pe often shown as common in mercenaries, but Westeria is against all of it and they're essentially all a family. He's far from strong at all in the squad, but he makes his way closer to the top. It's wholesome essentially, and he has a great love relationship with a girl named Luciel who he rescued from the facility they were kept in as children. However, everything goes wrong once a prodigy brutal and cruel woman general decides to go around hiring mercenaries and treating them as disposables for her plans. It angers Westeria, and it causes their downfall, as she consistently does whatever cruel tricks she can to lure them in and kill off half of their entire squad in their first battle where Ardis and Luciel learn that she runs the underground facilities with captured children. Ardis and Luciel try to save them, but Luciel essentially gets captured when Ardis is unable to come, and Ardis learns that she was essentially tortured and r*ped for years by some former mercenaries of Westeria who were kicked out and hired by the woman general. From there, it all goes to hell and Ardis is forced to kill Luciel when he finds her shackled and unable to escape. The backstory is still continuing on..

I strongly encourage people to read this novel. Definitely one of the best I've read in a while. <<less

I like OP or powerful characters adopting kids stories, so the synopsis hooked me in.

But the actually story? The twins and later a female companion took the backseat a lot. Around ch 50, MC went to another side plot or mini arc, again leaving the kids behind but now with a pseudo wife/mother (2nd strongest character).

If you take the kids out, it's another OP character breezing through fights, monsters or otherwise. Kids are plot anchors to the MC, so he can have some sort of direction or problem. It was... more>> just a massive disappointment of what the synopsis made me believed, leading to boring readings of his adventures with lackluster characters.

If you're looking for family-oriented fantasy stories, this is not the one. Even "Isekai Yururi Kikou ~Raising Children While Being an Adventurer~" excelled in that than this. And I gave it two stars!

Despite the negatives, why 3 stars? At least the twins had some struggle. Sometimes it felt (told) the MC was short on cash that's why he goes do mercenary work to bring home some bacon. The potential was there.

I will keep on following the story because I still have hope that goes back focusing on the twins. <<less

I wouldn't let anyone waste their time on this. The MC is bland, the writing style is really boring and the plot even more so. I don't expect the MC to be a hero and so overpowered that he can literally overcome anything but he should at least have a brain to use. He doesn't think about the consequences of his actions at all, just superficially visits them.

It’s well written but the MC while not a pansy is too lackadaisical and there are side chapters of characters no one cares about every where. If there was on on the twins or the servant it would be good but no there are like 7 side chapters about random ass people.

I can't really say it's bad to the point of being tr*sh but its ok enough if you have nothing else to read.

I can't really give an unbiased opinion since seeing the cover & reading the synopsis it should generally give you an idea of what the novel is about but what the heck! Its so misleading that even though its ok it just feels wrong somehow.

As of ch61 let me get this straight

... more>> 1. The twins are just background characters it feels like they are not even remotely important.

2. The follower well what the she just came out of the blue maybe so the MC has a caretaker for the twins so he can go on adventures all by himself

3. The synopsis should only have the 1st paragraph anything else mentioned is misleading & the cover should be changed!!

[Edit]

Whoever changed the cover & synopsis thanks a million!! <<less
