There are many awesome characters in this book, the plot is nice, but what the hell is with the romance and the ending? Such a disappointment, it could become a 5 stars work, instead it is a mediocrity.

I do not recommend this novel. It constantly gives out emotional promises none of which get satisfied.

Spoiler

The only woman he had is a widow of the guy he knew, what the hell? He had so many interesting girls who love him and some of them he liked (and loved) too, he spent so much effort keeping his chastity, but then he just started sleeping with a random bit*h he recently met and he did it for years, he didn't even have any feeling for her. Loser.

The ending is a drawn out battle for several dozens of chapters. Why. He could write so many pieces and finish loose ends, but it just ended with "they all fell in hibernation and it is even unknown if the protagonist is alive". ???

To
phreakinsane: why writing a review of you didn't read the novel and made up all the "facts"? This is a comedy and there are misunderstands. No, she is not a loose woman, you misunderstood. No she is not "good with other women", you misunderstood. No, they didn't get married, you misunderstood. No, he didn't support rapists, you misunderstood. It is not a perfect novel, and the jokes are often rude, but it is not as bad as your imagination. <<less

A novel that's good enough to read but not much more than that. I do appreciate the comedy but it sadly gets old quite fast as all of it builds on the idea of shamelessness and joking about s*x. A fair amount of good laughs here though, just a question of whether or not it's worth all the boring chapters.

The story leaves much to be desired, clearly it will end with him ascending to true immortality or something like that, I guess he'll just solve the first part of the... more>> plot and continue it later. After 745 chapters, he just broke through to yuanying stage, which is stage 5 of 8 (qi condensation, foundation building, xudan, jindan, yuanying, deity, unity, mahayana), which shows that things will be really rushed and if he is to reach the peak by the end, there will be huge time skips. It feels rushed and that it would likely end when he finally reaches the level of being able to leave the world he's on sucks. Really, the story just wasn't interesting all along, very boring development, nothing that made me feel that it was interesting at all.

The grammar is so-so, the translation quality level sadly reduces the enjoyment one can derive from this novel by not being that good. The flow isn't proper and sometimes it's incredibly bad while at other times it's decent, fluctuating a lot.

While I don't hate most of it, the author does have some quirks I really detest, like glorifying dog eating. Also, shameless people who are actually pure virg*ns and won't act on their thoughts just feel half-assed in the end, I don't like how they pretend to be all that yet can't even sleep with someone.

At the end of the day, it's a decent novel that could be worth having on your reading list. The comedy is the main value of this novel but does tend to get tiring after a while. Maybe read it in bursts of 100 chapters, like 100 chapters a month along with other novels. The biggest flop in this novel was honestly how utterly boring the story is. <<less

story : 5/5

characters : 5/5

world-building : 5/5

... more>> a seriously good story with a big dose of humor, a really good story with foreshadowing and plot-twist. An amazing MC who's resourceful, shameless and strong, but not too much.

I won't say much, just that you'll laugh a lot reading this and the story just keep getting more and more interesting as the chapters goes so just keep going (those who stopped like the most liked comment here can only regret it if they knew x))

right, only bad point is the translators at this point, not because of the quality which is pretty good, but the release rate promised has been from 5 chap/week to 1 chap / month or 2 at some point... and they get paid for it... <<less

The novel was pretty interesting as the MC and his master always/often used foul language thus being different than most of the cultivation novels where respect and face is everything. It was even more interesting as the MC often used his brains and his cultivation in order to defeat his enemies rather than being a couple of levels below the others but still winning because of their superior cultivation technique.

The romance part was completly messed up and was rather disappointing. Even after remembering his past where he and his master where disciples at the Spirit Sword Mountain Sect there relationship didn't change at all except at the end and than it felt as it was forced for them to being honest about their feelings. The most infruating thing about the whole romance thing is that throughout the novel it was kind of hinted that the Wang Lu would have a harem but then the other members of the "harem" didn't or were just briefly mentioned in the last arc.

The last arc in generell was just messed up as it felt rushed and the other characters didn't get their time to shine as they should have.

[collapse]

The story is good and it is fun to read it but I wouldn't recommend it as the last arc and especially the end is just messed up and doesn't do any kind of justice to the story, the characters and the reader as you don't really know what happens with the characters in the end. <<less

I'm gonna talk about the differences between the novel and the manhua and some parts where some are better and or worse.

The manhua currently is at the western arc. Some parts of it was better done in novel form, some better in manhua because of visual stuff like fanservice. For the novel I would say a 4/5. Manhua I would say 3.5/5. The manhua skips a lot of foreshadowing and you can see it from the first chapter.

Spoiler

In the first chapter of the novel, they mentioned a lot of fancy stuff which is just passed by in the manga.

Example

Do you remember the legend about the end of time... Alas, this sword's light broke one-third of its way, I am afraid the days of peace in the cultivation world will only last for several years. Could it be that we really need to produce one billion spirit stones to sponsor the Union of Ten Thousand Immortals to repair those five prehistoric divine boats?"

Well this part and some other foreshadowing parts are completely skipped in the manhua.

Another example

"Martial Sister, there is one thing I would like to say over a century ago, but never had the opportunity to say it, since now the end is within sight..."

As the Sect Leader sent his firm yet magnetic voice, his brimming-with-truth words entered the opposite party's ears as the trembling of the stars continuously intensified.

"I think it is time to tell you the truth."

In these last minutes, time once again flew as the starlight vigorously burst like blooming flowers; the night sky was bright as day. A broom-like shooting sky pierced through the sky.

That was the legendary herald of the end of time, the Halley Comet. When the comet fell, the world's vital energy dried up, and the end of time arrived... The summit of the Spirit Sword Mountain trembled under this "heavenly wind", as though the sky was about to collapse.

This is just in the first chapter and will appear many times more in the future.
Also there is the mandatory sprinkle of chinese superiority in chapter 73. The manga removes that. I mean, if you don't like that part, don't read that part.

[collapse]

The western arc (current arc) in the manhua is confusing, too confusing actually. I literally don't know what's going on and I think its being sped up too much.

I wouldn't recommend the manga unless the novel's too boring for you and your puny brain can't keep up with imagining the pretty okay world building. 4/5

As for character development, it's pretty okay? The development mainly focuses on the people around that MC. Some characters fall to the wayside after one final parting. Example that servant character.

As for the drama, I'm not very experienced in that department and I generally don't watch dramas, so I won't comment on it.

One of the best novel and I really enjoy it. The author really thoughtful about the story, even about how Wang Lu arrived to the cultivation world not just somehow I awoken or transmigrated. His interactions with the Wang Wu and the rest of the cast really entertaining especially his one of a kind proverb. The translator is also do his/her job really well with, giving explanation for a proverb or reference. About his fighting style ... more>>
Spoiler

At the begining he's just only able to defend though his mental attack or his words is really sharp xD, a good move set. It also has its own charm especially. Later on his sword qi is able to cross several stages without losing his almost perfect defense

I read this book primarily for the humour, and I was not disappointed. I really laughed along the entire read. And I would recommend it for anyone looking for a good laugh that doesn't have to rely on cliches such as "stronger fist" face slapping.... or fatty jokes

The overall storyline is enjoyable to read, although there are a few rushed places: the MCs levelling up, plus the last hundred or so chapters.

It doesn't have the same level of face slapping as Library of Heaven's Path, but overall a good read.

such a fresh air, such a different POVs and more real with some politics and some social ways. Just enjoy it not for fights or unexplainable plot armor power recharges just for how the adventure progressed, and at the end every scenario just shoot like arrow in your eyes ohhh

P.S-its not for the power ups and fight till the end enjoyers (MGA, ED)

P.S- There may some CCP fixings there so try to ignore it

I honestly don't recall the first part, I've only remember parts, and finally read the final 200 chapters.

Review. Right. It's great. Enemies aren't dumb, MC smart shenanigans are entertaining, the novel ended in a realistic note.

But honestly, it really ended in an open way, I don't see the epilogue as a true epilogue, and honestly want to see the character reactions one last time.

But still, it's a good novel. High recommendation.

Novel was great, but I had to wait almost a year between updates. I not longer recalled many events that were crucial to the last arc. Anyway, Wang Lu's development was really interesting to read.

Loved the manhwa which led me to watching the anime and then reading the novel. Unfortunately, I find it a grind to finish the novel as the arc that I am currently at feels unnecessarily long. The earlier arcs of the novel are pretty good but the quality of the arcs started to drop from ... more>>

. The main characters and side characters are quite interesting and I believe they are one of the biggest reasons for people to love this novel. However, I personally feel that the author painfully tries to 'balance' the MC so that he does not get way ahead of his peers. Would I recommend the novel? Yes, I would recommend others to give it a try because it is a fun novel to read and perhaps it will suit your taste better than mine. <<less

Well as I see some of people don't like how novel plot is going on, but for me it's a perfect novel. It's not so fast paced, but not slow or boring one. Plus someone who just comment that

The way I see it Wang Lu had no reason to take that pledge and make himself a walking fortress who can’t attack. It was a s*upid school competition that they had already won and he really wouldn’t be affected if he lost to his female apprentice. Sooooooo yeah after that he is basically a turtle, worse even. Turtles can bite you if you piss them off, but Wang Lu basically can’t do shit. He has some kamikaze technique he can use and that’s it.

Wang Lu could easily have become the fastest (strongest?) practitioner in the novel, but now he’s going to be the most indestructible turtle the multiverse has ever seen. All because of a s*upid inter-school competition with no life and death stakes.

[collapse]

That's true, but at the same time false after all
Spoiler

Later he finds a way around his pledge and can kill/injure others.

[collapse]

But me personally would suggest just to read a manhua, because there is pretty much same thing and it reads even better than novel, at least for me <<less

One of the best novels I've ever read. My top 3 favourite novels are Release that Witch, Cultivation Chat Group and Once Upon a Time There Was a Spirit Sword Mountain. After that, I like novels like Sevens, I Shall Seal the Heavens, Transcending the Nine Heavens, Virtual World: Peerless White Emperor and Moonlight Sculptor.

BTW I started out reading the manga first and then switched to the book. I think the manga is more amazing than the book (but it will take a long time for the manga to cover... more>> the entire story). <<less
