Jiang Zhen crossed into ancient times and became the old bachelor eldest Jiang who was neglected by his whole family in Hexi Village.

He was born into a good family, but the eldest Jiang was busy all year and couldn’t even eat a full meal. His two younger brothers could marry a wife, but he was starved to death… Jiang Zhen felt it was unbearable.

You don’t want to feed me? OK, I will kill the chicken myself.

You don’t even give me a glimpse of food? It doesn’t matter, the door of the granary will be opened as soon as I kick it.

You want to tell me that I am unfilial? Ok, I will immediately take the knife to the village and slash people, and let the yamen officer catch all of us.

Jiang Zhen became a local tyrant in the village. He also saw the “ugly” ger who could not get married in the village.

Future father-in-law: “Jiang Zhen is always wandering around our house. Is he planning to rob our house?”

The future mother-in-law: “What to do? Jinge can’t beat him!”

Zhao Jinge’s face was hot… Dad, the wild rabbit that I brought back today is what he gave…

I really, really liked this story (and still am, waiting for updates). The translation is fantastic and I really appreciate that the author realizes that it takes time for things to happen instead of insta-mogul.

I didn't really pick it up through the NU intro, but the MC is a former soldier who ends up starting a shipping protection agency... which was kind of awesome. He isn't all-knowing. At one point he even bemoans the fact that Baidu isn't available because he needs info re: pregnancy.

I also really, really like the... more>> fact that this is probably one of the more 'women are awesome' BL I've read in a long time. I love Madam Zhou sooooo much. The author doesn't really shy away from more 'real' things but also isn't in any way explicit about it (in one case, I had no idea what the author was eluding to until it came up later). One of the characters, who had been rescued from a pirate village, had previously worked in a brothel. She was able to gain the employment that she wanted to do and decided to start her own household with an adopted child. Me: you go girl!

Madam Liao... er, Wen, is also so completely awesome. I'm always sad that most people don't have the luxury of connections or money to get out of a bad situation, but her scenes were completely bad ass.

There was some surprise anti-Japanese sentiment because... I thought this was an earth adjacent/not really earth world. I mean... gers? I'm always perplexed by some of the cultural decisions in the A/O (ger) literature. Like... if a ger can't produce breast milk, etc... how did nature select them to continue existing? It's like betas who are 70% of the population and can't have children. Me: ?

/segue. This is great, I highly recommend it. <<less

It was good at first, but author was just throwing cannon fodder into the grinder without any restraint over and over, with characters never meeting any real challenge. Main character stopped being likable or relatable soon after ch.60, and became absolutely insufferable after ch110.

Things like this can be nice and fluffy, but this one is not - it is just a cheap power fantasy.

Its good, its like watching day time soap drama, with MC has steady golden finger, a good slice of life reading, and even for me who never like mpreg genre, somehow I still read this until minzhu is born.

About ML inferiority complex is also plausable, I mean dude come on, if you happen to date some popular people, won't you have those insecurity ??? Also in the later chapter isn't it one of the MC subordinate thinks that jinge is more good looking then the MC??

The MC and ML Look... more>> is nothing like those 2HA, MDZS, QJJ, SPL kind of thingy

This one is more like those current fitness model or any gym rat you like to scroll in Instagram but you never want to admit it XD <<less

Dropped this. I pushed myself to read so far cause it has a lot of 5 star reviews. But yeah, not my cup of tea.

Spoiler

First, the MC transmigrates into a a dull situation - mud houses, no plumbing, you know, sucks. And his wife has some serious self esteem issues, like he's always all about how to keep all these skanks off my man - to the point that he locks up some women and gers who were recently rescued from people who ens*aved and r*ped them in the backyard, away from his man. Because he's not just 'ugly' outside, but inside as well.

It supposedly gets worse as the MC becomes a tyrant, so I'm not sticking with it. Not fun world, boring protagonists.

This is the fourth novel I read by this author. I loved all four.

MC is such a vindictive person, and I L-O-V-E revengeful characters. The things he does to the Jiang family are great! If someone slaps him in the face he always hits back! I love him!

ML is so cute~ I get a little uncomfortable with his low self-esteem, but I totally understand why he is that way. He was very wronged because of his masculine appearance. He's handsome, but handsome as a man. However, ML is a Ger,... more>> so he "should" look like a woman.... and ML is taller and more masculine than many men. Because of that, he was always called ugly :' (
I really like his personality at the end of the novel. I love him too!

The romance between ML and MC is so sweet. The two love each other very much. It has a lot of love throughout the novel.

I was very moved by the final chapters
Spoiler

It shows the original Jiang ZhenWei reincarnating in the future. The original Jiang ZhenWei has psychological trauma due to the mistreatment caused by the Jiang family.
The final chapters show how his new life was. He was very loved by his parents, relatives and wife!
I read it crying. I spent the whole novel feeling very sorry for him! Finally, he can be happy and loved.
The original Jiang ZhenWei is a character who has suffered a lot. He deserves all the love in the world.

The last arc is a little rushed. All the things happened very fast. But one thing I liked was:
Spoiler

How the MC fights for the rights of women and Gers. He always thinks about building a place where his daughter and ML can live without being intimidated and underestimated.

This is one of my favorite stories in the danmei category. The gong being the MC is like a breath of fresh air. His adventures and struggles in a little different ancient time makes it very enjoyable. I like that he is a decisive and a straightforward person, especially when he was romancing the shou in the first few chapters.

There's only a few of this good gong-is-the-MC novel these days I suggest to give this a try.

The ending will make you feel very satisfied.

MTL'd. It was a good story. The conflicts sort of frustrating because as the reader POV you'd feel that there are more ways to solve the problems but they just don't go the way you want because the characters are, characters, they are confined in the story and have hindsight. And I think it's one of the beauty of this novel. MC is not OP just because he's an 'outsider' of the world.

MC is the gong in this novel and for all his brilliant, he's truly an ordinary man, beside... more>> the fact that he used to be a special force soldier. And therefore somewhat violent. The situation he found himself made him grow to his full potential IMO, and his growth influence the people around him, including ML, his wife.

I love the fact that while Zhao Jinge (ML) is so full of insecurity but he's possessive of Jiang Zhen. And instead of doubting himself and MC, he just goes straight to want to better himself. It saves a lot of unnecessary drama.

All in all, I enjoyed reading this novel very much. <<less

Since there's no summary yet, I was planning to write one after I finished the first chapter, but so far it's just briefly introduced the MC and some setting. All I know so far is that our MC transmigrated into the body of the unlucky/hated eldest son of a wealthy family who starved to death.

The translation quality is good.

1 star: Started off all right, nothing special but nothing terrible so around 3 stars for the first half or so, and if you like instant face-slapping, you'll like how the transmigrator right from the get-go terrifies and bullies his scum family. Stars started dropping as the story dragged on, half predictable-but-not-bad slice of life and half the genre-typical "MC is super amazing because he's a modern man and knows how to do modern things like sell stuff to make money." I'm usually fine with those things but the latter... more>> one was getting annoying as the endless chapters ticked past. The latter third of the story devolved into focusing on the blatantly nationalistic and pro-colonialist attitude that crops up in many Chinese novels, only instead of an uncomfortable line here or there or an eye-rolling scene or two, it's a whole arc devoted to putting psedo-China on a pedestal while ethnically cleansing pseudo-Japan (but it's okay! They love to be ethnically cleansed and willingly fully assimilate into pseudo-Chinese culture).

The gong MC is quite unlikeable from the very beginning. He styles himself as a modern man and when plot-convenient he references his previous life as a soldier for reasons as to why he's rough, brusque, and indifferent to everyone but the ger he decides will be his lover—and it really does feel like he chose the first convenient guy who suited his tastes and was immediately useful to him to be his lover. There are some lines about how the ger saved the original body and the original body has lingering feelings for him, and incidentally the ger is "manly" and therefore "ugly" by the world's standards, but since the MC is supposedly a modern gay man he "naturally" prefers manly men, so this ger is perfect for him! He takes care of the ger's parents out of obligation but doesn't give a **** about anyone else unless they're useful to him, in which case he sees them as tools to further his own ends. The MC is pretty much a sociopath. He only has business partners and underlings, no friends or confidants and no interest in other relationships, only building his own increasingly large empires: first as a traveling tradesman, then a mercantile enterprise, and works his way up to a literal empire premised on an extreme view that Colonialism is Great. More on that fun last part down below!

The shou ger doesn't have much personality being generically the shy-and-reserved type with low self-esteem because he's "ugly" and is considered unsuitable for marriage and having children. Naturally he starts to blossom and come into his own with the support and encouragement of the loving gong who—oh wait, that's what the story was aiming for but failed to achieve. Instead, the clueless shou becomes dependent on the MC who isn't above using him because the shou conveniently looks like a man and because the MC is again a MODERN MAN, he doesn't think twice about forcing his lover to do things that are weird or taboo for his gender per current societal/cultural norms.

While this could be spun as holding up "modern" ideas of gender equality as positive compared to ancient gender inequality and strict gender roles, it doesn't pan out because the MC is still very sexist in his views of women and doesn't see his ger lover as a woman, he sees him as a man and treats him like one. There are some superficial points made about people being surprised when they realize the strong competent "man" beside the MC is actually a ger, it goes no deeper than that. The shou's entire existence revolves around supporting the MC's rampage across the land to gain power and money through typical transmigrator means.

About the nationalism and colonialism:

Spoiler

There is a consistent thread through the novel of the MC acquiring "underlings" of various socially low castes and "bettering" their lives with his modern mindset and training techniques to serve him, which okay fine is a transmigrator trope I usually don't have an issue with, but in this case I was weirded out how he openly considers it to be "brainwashing" (literal word he uses multiple times) to mold others to suit his needs. There is no element of altruism or kindness involved; literally, he needs to manipulate how people think in order to essentially ens*ave them into making him more money or providing him with opportunities. He's very cold and calculating beyond even typical "cold and calculating gong" stereotypes.

That uncomfortable brainwashing trickle suddenly becomes an outright off-putting-in-the-extreme raging torrent in the last arc of the novel, where the MC basically defects from pseudo-China with his giant fleet of underlings, sails to crude-savage-and-inferior pirate-ridden pseudo-Japan, where he and his mass of people raid all the "bad" pseudo-Japanese pirates and evil overlords while taking over the land piece by piece by installing his own soldiers and imposing his own culture on the locals via government enforcement. All this helps the poor helpless peasants! Forcing them to assimilate into pseudo-Chinese culture via laws like "you must speak only our language, if you don't, you will not receive government aid or recognition and will be a second-class citizen" is something the colonized people eagerly agree to because it's just language, what's the big deal? Their lives will be so much better if all they have to do is become pseudo-Chinese!! And anyway, this other culture is so much better and more refined!!! Look how much their prosperity increased once these people from an enemy country sailed over out of nowhere and mass took over half of the country!!!!

The MC ruthlessly colonizes and conquers pseudo-Japan and reforms it in his image of modern-day China right down to literally, I **** you not, declaring the empire is called the People's Republic of China, with a huge emphasis on how amazing the country is in terms of prosperity and equality and technological advancements, how much better off the former people are (who are all super happy to be citizens of this new better country!!!!!!) , and how amazing everything is because his government is the greatest and takes care of the people and the people trust the government so much and it's all because of him and his ability to guide these crude people of ancient times toward modern enlightenment.

It's actually quite very rather just a bit ever so slightly somewhat off-putting, if y'know what I mean.

[collapse]

That last arc retroactively ruined the rest of the so-so novel. If you read a few chapters and find it enjoyable or an okay way to pass the time, I'd suggest reading until you get bored or up until that last arc begins and then stopping and imagine instead that the MC just sails off into the sunset with his lover to start a new life elsewhere... and try not to imagine it involves venerating colonialism, ethnic cleansing, and forced assimilation. <<less

The fact that it started as a 'farming novel' to an 'unexplainably getting rich' and ending with the ML being a PRIME MINISTER??!!. (This is the first novel that forced me to write my first review'

Spoiler

Here are all the things (not giving any context to the novel's event specifically' that both disgusted/weirded me and those that started as comedic turned repetitive and just borderline annoying.

  • ML's as*hole behavior to just anyone in general. It's understandable for his shitty family in the start but like come on.
  • Just weird blind admiration/hate from everyone around ML?! Like in the earlier chapters, if I recall correctly, his family calls a yamen officer to arrest or put the ML in trouble. The ML (because he is a trained officer) overpowers him and ties him up with the threat of death and like after a whole day of captivity, the yamen officer kind of develops stockholm syndrome? He starts admiring him and supports him later on in the novel.
  • Another infuriating event was with the ger Shen Anxin. Introduced as a marginalized individual because quite like women in ancient China, they were also disapproved of working in trade/business (any masculine jobs really) He is a strong person who works hard and breaks societal bonds yadda yadda. And then the author made him fall for the ML and turn all pathetic? He forgets all his businesses and family reputation, goes through some weird white moonlightification (except for way more losers), and his character is reduced to a side stepping stone. He gets rejected by the ML (understandable) and he blames MC for it? And then he goes into this blind despair, falls into a trap gets gangr*ped by someone, and also blames MC? Either I'm crazy or this novel was turning shittier by the second. (I'm not crazy)
  • Moreover, for no reason, the imperial royal family who were not meddling at all with the ML, started to work against him?! (The starting of the absolute rushing of the plot that follows) And then the ML with his escort agency somehow defeats the Imperial government (I scrolled through these chapters because they were frankly horribly written{the translators are GODS for putting up with this}) and then he encountered the people from another 'continent' who were just stereotyped Japanese. And oh my god does the novel start blaring red flags. Firstly he dislikes/ is disgusted with them because they are 'barbaric', different in 'appearance' and lastly speak a 'weird language'. There is a literal scene where the ML ORDERS that the "foreign refugees" have to learn his language to talk with him or he will not bother. It also pointed out that the continent has been through some chaos and war and then the 'foreign' people are shamed for being bandits. How were they supposed to survive, you entitled piece of arrogant garbage who just happens to come from the modern era and hence gains the right to be superior? It even subtly hinted that the common poor folk of the native continent (China) are more 'tolerable' than these 'foreigners' (Japanese). As a native of a colonized country that has faced racism, I felt simply horrible and grew to hate the ML.
  • Lastly, the ML just goes ahead and starts invading the 'foreign' territories to unify one great China. I kid you not the ML literally 'COLONIZES' and unifies all the territories (Where Chinese will remain forever superior to others) and names himself the PRIME MINISTER??!! Boy, it is an ancient set novel and you make the title the Republic of China? And the extras were just his daughter getting a random territory in Australia and his other kids also becoming the next Prime minister?
  • As you may have noticed how I barely mentioned the MC because his whole persona is so goddamned reliant on the ML, he is invisible to me (which is better than the hot mess the ML is).

In conclusion, don't read the novel, someone shoved Chinese propaganda up the Author's throat as she was writing the end and she was also on every form of substance.

5/5* - RECOMMEND!

This was such great story!!

MC (seme!) is a special force military guy that transmigrates into body of a poor, tragically abused farmer in historic setting in which there are also gers. ML is a very manly (therefore considered ugly) ger whose family is very poor.

This story is absolutely great! There is no special or magical space abilities nor cultivation kind of interference. LOVED how MC truly had to work super hard to become succesfull. MC is physically very strong and has all the competences and abilities of a... more>> modern special force military. Also, he knows what kind of inventions are possible in the future, but he never knew the real technology. He only knew the direction and vision in his mind. This is something that I liked the most. No cheat system, but actual perseverance and hard work. There were setbacks too, but then MC just changed his plan. So more satisfying!!!

In the end
Spoiler

MC had to flee with his family to a neighboring country where they become the rulers. ML finally had all the freedom to make big changes to society.

[collapse]

Their lives were such a journey!! It took me 3 days to finish the story, slower than usual, because I actually read every sentence. The slice of life was very well paced, not boring at all. In the last quarter of the story I even felt the pacing became too fast.

ML was a wonderful, kind character who becomes very capable as well. Their relationship was truly beautiful because also felt very real and down to earth.

Super addicting farming story with wonderful characters and side characters. The journey was amazing. Love this author a lot. She has written great other stories. One of her specialty is to give her stories all full closure.

In the Extras the original owner who died too tragically had his wonderful story too. The final Extras regarding main cp was so heart warming too. <<less

Idk if I should rate cuz I'm barely halfway, but so far it was uber slow paced qAq MC barely had any development, I felt like I wasted my time reading some totally irrelevant chapters

Spoiler

except he separated from Jiang family and finally go outside the village to do some smol business, then returned to propose to Zhao Jinge. Former 2 can be done in the first few chaps but author decided it is wise to drag it to chap40-ish.

[collapse]

I won't comment much about MC rouge-ish personality cuz what do you expect from a former soldier? Casanova skill? Ew no. I like how straightforward he was tbh.

ML? I would like this story more if he has more spine.

Spoiler

He had the gut to carve out his cinnabar mole tho, prolly that gut used up a lifetime of his courage that he lose his spine

[collapse]

Moreover this story plot in the beginning was, almost similar to My Favourite Manly Husband or is it just me thinks so? Even the name, I thought it was the same novel until I saw the synopsis. So I can't help but make comparisons.

Well anyways imma drop it. It was good to some people but I wouldn't recommend this to those who likes power couple and fast paced story. <<less

This is basically ''My Favorite Manly Husband'' but like, , , better written and more entertaining? I'm not even into ancient storylines but this made me feel interested in the ancient farming practices more than MFMH did.

Short Summary: Eldest Jiang dies and Jiang Zhen transmigrates in his place; realises that Eldest Jiang lived a miserable life so he separates from his shtty family and takes a wife. His wife is a ger, in this world there are 3 genders: Men, Women and Gers who are like men but who can... more>> get pregnant.

Our MC was a soldier in modern times so he takes many things by brute force which is honestly so entertaining. Watching him take things makes people think ''Wait is he crazy' but later everyone, including readers, realise that he actually only took what he deserved. He isn't too OP, he has many shortcomings but his fast rising actually makes sense.

I liked ML, Zhou Jinge, but istg he makes me angry with his insecurity. Yes, obviously I get why he's like that and it is understandable so I'm not holding it against him but I still go '':/'' whenever he feels like MC will leave him. So much so, I kinda started shipping MC with other people. (DW tho as MC doesn't look at anyone but ML). Like, Jinge, baby, it's been 100 chapters. Your tofu got eaten by Zhen regularly. Please stop getting nervous every time a ger approaches.

Spoiler

Pregnancy: chapter 87

They'll have a baby girl!

[collapse]

I've read 100 chapters in one sitting and it's currently my new fave. It's like a classic showbiz novel but with ancient themes lmao.

Would recommend.

Edit:

Spoiler

I should have rated this book 2 starts solely because of Shen Anxin's ending. What was the reason? The novel is superb but why? Even those 2 lemon stealing thots got relatively ok ending, why Shen Anxin ended up like that? Would still recommend btw and I'm not changing my rating but if I knew my Anxin didn't get a happy ending I wouldn't have rated it that high.

The narration is bland, but that's what made it easy to MTL so I'm not really complaining — but it could have been better.

Anyway, I loved Zhao Jinge's character development! He was really insecure and had low self-esteem at first, but Jiang Zhen is a good lover who makes him feel worthy and validated. They have a very healthy relationship.

I repeat. Healthy relationship.

I also love how everything is tied up neatly in the end. In most transmigration novels, the original owner of the body might as well have never existed... more>> at all — but here, Jiang Zhenwei gets his own rebirth and gets the good life he deserves.

Spoiler

I didn't expect for Zhao Jinge to be reborn in modern times too as a really cool Mr. President though!

I just love this novel ❤❤❤

MTL Level ☆☆☆☆ (easy to read)

A very nice story. Different take on transmigration to Ancient Times.
Spoiler

it was different cause he was an ex special ops with PTSD so he's violent when needed and he doesnt really care much if he hurts those who hurt him. He's not the brightest type MC either. He might be smarter than others but when it comes to schemes, he's very useless.

[collapse]

Different way of building wealth than most transmigration novel.

Spoiler

Not planting or selling crafts. Mostly uses his own experience as special ops in his previous life (fighting thieves and pirates, escorting as a bodyguard, he tried selling stuff but his product was often being copied he that he would have to find another way

[collapse]

Its action pack (there's quite a lot of fighting because of his chosen profession)

There's fluff ??

Spoiler

he is so gay for ML

[collapse]

MC is constantly moving (there's quite a lot of moving too, because of his chosen profession) ?

There's blood (hohoho).

I like that he is not very OP who can magically do anything. But at times I wouldve like for him to be more OP.

Interesting ending extras ❤❤❤

Ill read it again after translation is completed ?

SPOILERSSSS

The MC is the gong. I haven't read a novel where the MC is the gong in a looong time. Usually novels have the MC as the shou.

The MC was a gay military man. He is reincarnated in the body of a depressed boy who is basically ignored and shunned by his family. The original owner of the MCs body falls in the river and dies due to a fever since his family didn't take care of him. He was reached from the river by the shou and once the... more>> MC takes over the original body, the shou helps the MC recover by bringing him some food. The MC falls for the shou at first sight basically. He flirts with the shou, grows a business and marries the shou. They have a girl and then a boy (then a ger in the extras). The MC has an escort/bodyguard business that helps him become rich. In the end, the MC makes the shou the king of China (mainly an honorary position) while he becomes the prime minister and has the real power.

In the extras, the MC and shou die. The MC is back in his original body in the 21st century and the shou is reincarnated in the same world. The shou uses his knowledge of the past and makes a name for himself while searching for the MC everywhere. The shou finds the MC in an injured state and pays for his medical expenses. They both remember each other and get married one day after gay marriage is legalized.

The interactions between the MC and shou were really cute. I feel like this novel has a fair amount of plot and romance. So it isn't really overflowing with romance. <<less

At first I let it go as the MC made misogynistic or sexist comments regarding the ger but it is escalating to a level that I no longer support.

The MC says that he likes his ger because it is not "feminine" because according to him a man should not be like that, and I understand that everyone has their inclinations but that does not take away the fact that he throws derogatory comments even at his own partner who in fact manipulates and uses to his liking.

I mean, her husband... more>> has low self-esteem and he doesn't do anything to help him feel good about himself but also takes advantage of that and molds him to his liking, I mean, the ger wants to be pretty, dress like others or imitate a bit of what the other gers do, but since the MC doesn't like that kind of thing, he chooses how he should look and dress because those are your tastes :/ <<less

Its a really good book for face slapping and business building.

However, I am dropping it because a side character was r*ped and it looks like they are being made the villain due to it.

Spoiler

shen axin gets r*ped and thinks the ML orchestrated it, he is then fed a bunch of lies about how awful the MC is. It looks like the author is using his trauma as an excuse to drive the plot forwards. I am disturbed and can't bare to read any further
