Despite being a healer, Raust was an adventurer that could only use elementary level heal.

With such ability, Raust has trained himself to contribute even just a little to his small group of first-class party.

However, Raust’s sentiment bore no fruit. In an outburst of anger because of the failed quest, the party informed him of his expulsion.

……However, the party members realized something little by little once Raust left the party.

——— Raust’s ability who was training himself had put him in the realm of the top class among adventurers. It was because Raust was in their party that the party was called first-class.

This is a story of an oppressed healer who was banished from the worst party and then met people who acknowledge him.

The best part of these kinds of stories is the undervalued MC. Everyone says he's a loser. In some stories (including this one) the MC even believes he's a loser. But the author quickly reveals that the MC is OP, and the ones who couldn't see that were the real fools. The reader gets to enjoy a fun story about the under dog getting his due.

The problem is how to make an OP character start in such a bad position. If he's OP, there has to be a reason why... more>> nobody has realized yet. Sadly, this author accomplishes this with lazy writing. The MC is treated like garbage because he's surrounded by cartoonishly incompetent jerks. He's even stuck in a world with laughably dumb rules.

Spoiler

One of the laws is apparently "once you join a party, you have to stay in it except in very specific circumstances". Really? If I narrowly escaped death after trying to fight a giant monster with a bunch of idiots, I would quit altogether instead of working with them again. Such a law would be impossible to enforce and cause tons of problems. But it helps create conflict, so the author included it.

Another problem is the MC's past. As a child, he was kicked out of an institute because his talent in healing was bad. Even though healing talent is rare enough that he was accepted into the institute solely because he had it, even though monsters are everywhere and people are constantly getting injured, there is no tolerance for anything below perfection in healing? They just threw a child into the streets to fend for himself instead of dropping him off to heal soldiers in some backwater town. That just doesn't make sense.

Also, the girl who joins the MC knows that his former teammates were scammers, so how does a receptionist of the guild not know? The author seems to be trying to portray the guild as unusually corrupt, but the complete lack of regulation of adventurers goes to far. Even the townspeople are afraid of them, and are attacked by them? That's a huge problem for whoever is in charge of the city. How is nothing being done?

[collapse]

There are already some poorly thought out parts to the story, and I expect to see more. It's still fun to read, but the lazy writing hurts it. The problem with fantasy worlds is that they require so much more work to establish. And this author clearly hasn't done a complete job. <<less

UPDATE:

WARNING: If you dislike gaslighting and the gullible main character while the author is siding with the gaslighting side, don't read this series. I don't even understand what the author is aiming for by portraying bullies as the good side, the author made it as if by bullying people it means the bullies are protecting them from bad things that will happen at school if they are quitting school from the depression/stress from bullying. Oh, how noble and hard it is to be a bully. Instead of communicating like an... more>> adult, the author makes the characters think the only plausible option to protect people is bullying? Is this author even an adult?

Spoiler

In the latest chapters, you will find the author twisting around the established facts on the story and trying to "redeem" the main antagonists into good guys by gaslighting the MC while spouting BS reasonings anyone with even a single brain cell will find the lack of logic in it. If you wanted to see the bully as the good guy and the one being bullied (MC) is the s*upid one for not realizing their bullying as an act of kindness, feel free to read this; but if you still have some sort of self-respect avoid this like a plague.

[collapse]

I picked it up and read the raws again until the latest chapter, this series turns out to be complete tr*sh. The story stuck on the second arc for almost 3 years in the monster stampede. Japanese readers even complained about it and how the author repeats things over and over again prolonging the story. The author also introduces more plot holes presented in form of "mysteries" while it's painfully obvious it's not planned well.

Old Review:

Spoiler

I've read it until the end of the first arc, it has potential but it also has its drawbacks too.

The good part:
    1. The MC actually shows character development, from having a severe inferior syndrome case into a confident man.
    1. So far it seems it's not a harem, the girls didn't automatically interested in him. There are also a couple other than the MCs.

The bad parts:

    1. The point of view changes a little bit too much. At some point, they even neglected the MC for something that's remotely interesting and it doesn't matter for the main story.
    1. The antagonists are plain badly written, they're cartoonishly evil and completely devoid of common sense.

Old ideas are not necessarily bad and there is a reason why the "Underdog comes out on top" genre is so common. It's because it is popular. Unfortunately, to stand out from the mass of similar stories, execution is important. An old trope executed well will still look fresh and keep people's attention. This is not one of them.

The MC's character changed so fast from the Prologue and Chapter 1 to someone totally different immediately after, like the author could not wait to stop pretending he wants to write a... more>> loser MC and straight went all out to Rambo on steroids. The MC's "inferiority complex" and "shyness" all went out the window the instant he stepped into the Dungeon and he went all alpha male and OPed death dealing God. I believe I even commented somewhere that his character flipped so fast I wondered if he was bi-polar. No, he wasn't. The author just ran out of patience on holding back on his wish fufillment writing. <<less

This novel is so cringy, I seriously don't know how anyone can enjoy this. The change in POV is really just for the sake of praising the MC. MC is strong, MC is kind and etc. WE UNDERSTAND THAT. STOP WRITING ABOUT IT IN EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER! I thought that Overgeard is bad enough with how the writer always say how MC has changed and all. It's feels too forced.

This novel started off promising, but just like "Arifureta" or "Kuro no Maou, " it ended up just being another story where the author tricks you into feeling sympathy for the protagonist before nonchalantly using event (s) for said sympathy as an excuse to send them on a power trip where they gather a harem (Or a bunch of women who feel sympathy for him), that consist of women who look down on anyone who isn't the protagonist, and are made to look "cool" by sending waves of bad guys... more>> who are bad for the sake of being bad their way to harass him or his harem.

Thats it. There really isn't that much left to say about this novel.

Unless you want to talk about how much of a pain this was to read due to the grammar. <<less

I found this afyer reading the manga adaption, but at first I was afraid because most of JN was made up of beta virg*n MC.

Then I read this and found it enjoyable until how the author make it messed up with all of the guild and other adventurer suddenly hate the MC just because he was a defect healer while in actuality his healing was better and more skillfull than those who can be said have more talent in healing than him.

Also what the f*ck is that with their crazy... more>> law, that was full of shit.

I won't say much about the law or how shitty it was, just read it and you will now how frustrating it was. <<less

It seemed acceptable at the start, perhaps between the 3 and 4 out of 5 range. The further you read, especially into the raws, the worse the story gets.

Story and character development wise hits further into the standard cliches. The drive behind the MC and female chars (the male chars are practically unimportant or fodder), gets more simpler and honestly devolves backwards as they try to make the characters op. There are better series out there that do this far better, even if you purposely look for the cliches and... more>> tropes.

Do yourself and favor, and give this one a pass. I don't think it even fits the casual reading category. <<less

well, it's not a bad story but its not for some ppl that like dark deep,... its just a lighthearted story. I think main is a monk in some RPG games but in this story he is a healer. Oh man, a monk can only heal small amount of HP so people think he is a defective as a healer. other side, he can be a tank that can heal, a semi-damaged dealer, an adventurer who is a jack of all trade so after leaving his party, he realized his... more>> native and strength. From now, what will he do for his future, revenge? it's still early but I think its a good a story for relaxing after work. <<less

The Premise has been done several times over already so one can probably guess what will happen eventually. Basically if this is youre kinda reading material then you will probably enjoy it, of not then it might seem like a generic story to you. I however am somewhat interested as these kinds of lighthearted stories do bring a certain extent of joy

This is a great read and one of the top ten novels I am currently following. Though I never intended to leave a review, but I feel the need to at least defend the translators from Fui's accusation regarding the grammar. I do admit that there are some loose sentences here and there, but it reads better to me than most other translations out there, I wouldn't have continued reading if the grammar is as bad as he says. If you want to be a... more>> grammar nazi, at least do it right.

That sentence that he pointed out reads fine to me, though it could probably be polished up to make the sentence easier to understand. When I read "After all, Onii-san never approved of us staying at the same inn with me in mind, " what came to mind is "onii-san never approved of them staying in the same inn with the best interest of the speaker in mind." <<less

Enjoying it so far. It combines the "support character kicked out from party" and "abnormal healer", both individually had been done in a number of other novels, but it's the first novel to combine them. Another reason why this novel actually felt pretty fresh is because the novel closest in plot to it is a slice of life (slow life at the frontier), while this one seemingly goes with adventure route.

The writing style is also very balanced - not feeding long explanations, no pointless chatter dialogues, POV changes also make... more>> sense and do not interfere with story progression, good pacing overall. I hope author will keep it up.

Giving it 5 stars out of good expectations for now, added to reading list. <<less

-It's too early to rate the story, but there are other problems that cripple this novel already.

-The chapters here are about half as long as chapters in other novels. It's to the point where reading this novel feels unsatisfying. By the time I'm done with a chapter, it feels as if I've only just started reading.

-The release is slow, and combined with the short chapters, this novel fails to leave an impact on me. I get to read a chapter for 5 minutes once every 3 days, and that simply... more>> isn't enough time for this novel to leave an impression. If it wasn't on my reading list, I honestly would have already forgotten this novel exists. <<less

I would give this negative 5 stars if I could.

The story has a decent premise, and the execution starts out well enough, with Raust having little to no self-esteem because people have been building him up just to tear him down again, the party that banished him being the latest of many. Even his mentor, an A-rank adventurer, the strongest in the country, frequently called him "talentless" as she was training him since childhood.

So when he's picked up by the female lead, and she genuinely treasures him, he naturally goes... more>> to insane lengths to keep her safe and happy.

So far, so good.

The story starts to fall apart when it's glaringly obvious that there's something not quite right with the local dungeon, but very few people, himself included, dare to actually realize it, with the adventurer's guild being blatantly corrupt, playing favorites, and mistreating decent and honest adventurers, and the citizens hate the adventurers as well, save Raust himself, because the guild strongly encourages them to treat the civilians badly, even forbidding adventurers from sharing the spoils of the dungeon, a rule Raust routinely breaks in secret.

It all completely falls apart when we are introduced to the guild-master's true form.

Spoiler

The guild master is actually a very, very powerful elf in disguise. So powerful, in fact, that if all the A-rank adventurers got together to go against him, he'd still win, hands down.

Turns out, he's making the guild staff encourage despicable adventurers, discourage honest and morally upright adventurers, and make life harsh in the city, on purpose.

See, he knows the dungeon is about to stampede, and even as powerful as he is, it's too much for him to stop it.

So rather than warn the kingdom and evacuate the city, so that something can be done, he instead chose to drive out all the good and honest people by making life miserable for them, while making things attractive for despicable people.

That way, when the dungeon inevitably blows, only the undesirables will die and the casualties among the law abiding citizens will be kept to a minimum. At least, that's the plan.

[collapse]

In short, the story tries to be a medieval fantasy equivalent of Neon Genesis Evangelion, and fails miserably.

For the sake of your sanity and overall health, this series should be avoided. <<less

So there's two main points that one-star commenters focused on.

The first is the MC's inferiority complex. It does seem a little extreme and a little overboard at first glance. But keep in mind, he's an orphan that's been physically and emotionally abused for nearly his entire life, to the point that he tried to kill himself via goblins. Plus no one, not even his master (who he paid for lessons) ever praised him for his ability. He's been trained to see himself as inferior.

The second is that the guild doesn't... more>> make sense. The guild has strange rules and the people are like villains from a children's anime. It turns out...
Spoiler

the rules are made up by the corrupt receptionist. And as of v2c33 the guild in that town has purposefully been recruiting adventurers with bad personalities for some unknown reason the main guild is investigating.

[collapse]

But with that said, the two main villains remind me of Team Rocket :) <<less

The story had an interesting start. It slowly built up. And then red flags started to appear. I mean, why would I want an entire chapter devoted to a villain when it can be boiled down to like one sentence? He was jealous.

Then comes chapter 29ish when someone completely unrelated steps in to be the hero. The best way I can describe it is that you manage to say "hi" to a girl at a party only for some random guy to swoop in from out of nowhere.

Anyway, this... more>> is when the veil was removed and you realize that the author is either vomiting words or he's got a massive plan for his story. Either way, he doesn't know how to write and, while you get an open view of the world, it's quite boring. I.e. 90% filler, 10% something happens.

The MC here was at first pretty weak and could only heal so he trained his ass off became pretty powerful but the old image sticks and everyone treats him with contempt. His very low-esteem doesn't help either and he doesn't defend himself at all from all the bullying. Ultimately he gets kicked out from his party like the title says but luckily he meets this girl who wants to be his party member and seems to know him.

Some fluffy romance here between them, but the action scenes are a little weak in my opinion. Generally a rather slow-paced and lighthearted Novel.

a gosh its so bland coming up with him being weak is cliche idk whats with the inferiority complex its simple laughable to how cringe it is. BTW whats with the guys outfit eerrr cringe and the way the characters act uuuurrr. The story is not dull by any means but it is so straight forwardly dry that it makes cringe the story is already dry as is and the guy that made it try to make it more appealing by making all the characters have inferiority complex. This like... more>> one of those old school drama where the guy is so shiny and glossy doing cringe ass pick up likes tp the heroin this is like that but rather school romance this is a fantasy one.

its literally fiction to the very bone to chezzy, cringe as f*ck, I wouldn't be surprised when theres a scene where where its raining and the guy says I love to the heroin and the girl be crying and ran to him while the girls hands are close doing a T pose and flailing her arms and jump hug him in the neck defying laws of physics and using it as a pole and did a 360 in his neck while the guy princess carried her and say will you marry me. At least the MC don’t have multiple romantic interests in the first volume.

I do like the ‘party kick out member who happens to be the backbone of the group’ premise. It brings the enjoyable ‘you get what you deserve’ moments when the party fails. Besides that, I think its a run of the mill OP MC story. His inferiority complex disappeared as a girl from the past comes along and becomes badass in the first few chapters. The villains are... villains

As much I like seeing MC having a few badass... more>> moments and antagonists getting their just deserts or thrashed. I don’t see how it offers any more than that. Villains would come around to mess with MC, MC beats them up, and probably will save the day.

I found myself skimming through a lot because I didn’t think MC was in danger. <<less
