Description

On the Star Network there is a gourmet food broadcast, where all you can see are a pair of hands. However each dish that this broadcast comes out with is earthshakingly delicious. What’s more, the broadcast anchor’s voice is simply perfect!

With the broadcast’s rising popularity, several food programs extended him an olive branch. When the anchor appeared on screen, as they suspected, he is handsome enough to incur the wrath of both men and gods! The fans l**ked their screens with increasing frenzy, but after licking a while, they discovered…

Fans:…Wait a minute, isn’t this our fatally-ill idol who hasn’t long to live?

Small Gong: Take these damned nutrient solutions and throw them away! And get me that broadcast anchor!

It's quite a big plot hole there~

It was a nice slice of life where MC support himself through live broadcast. There was also a little cliche background story where MC relative wanted money from him.

The cooking part is fine for me because most of it, I don't really know what MC is cooking lol. It just the reason why MC is so popular bothered me a lot.

MC cooks the food of 'ancient' china that interstellar people failed to preserved. It's actually fine if that's what author want. But the reason... more>> it bothered me was because how does the food organization recreate the ingredients? If they didn't preserve anything, how the hell did they know what is that ingredient and how to plant it. The appliances is more reasonable. They dug it up and analyze it to create a new one. The creature like seafood and animals is not reasonable. Why they don't know if it wasn't edible or not? Interstellar is so advance that they should had researched it to know about the details of that species but they did not. It's like they wait for MC to transmigrate and help them know if it's edible or not.

It's a little s*upid and idiotic but what keeps me going is the romance. I want to know how they will develop their feelings, and viola~ It's not that bad.

I really like it if that big plot hole isn't there. Thanks for translating. <<less

The begining and the idea is more like a 4 star rating, but as the novel progressed it just got worse that it fell to 2.5 stars and I just rounded up.

Pros:

    • I liked that the author tried to explain why there wasn't any recipes anymore, even if it was a little outlandish.
    • The ML is cute, I liked that he was one of the first to be the MCs fans
    • The MCs interactions during the live broadcast with his fans, especially in the earlier chapters
    • The food parts at the begining were fun and I learned some Chinese recipes that I would like to try
Cons:

    • The repeatativness of the food. By the time I got to about chapter 60 I was so done with the food. And why eat everything? Also no one didn't like the food, everything was delicious, always.
    • The Zerg war was just outlandish to add in. I almost completely dropped the novel after the chlorine incident
    • The undertones of racism. Not as bad as some other Chinese novels but it's still so tiring. I really wish we could all be respectful to each other.
    • The brother. I loved the addition of the bother character at first but then they made him too naive and s*upid for his age, even taking into account they aren't "adults" until they are 40.
    • The lack of romance was probably my biggest issue. There was no romance, no slow burn, just one minute they were friends and then next minute all of sudden more.
All in all if you're looking for just food this is the novel for you. If you are looking for romance or any plot, this is not for you.

It's such a sweet and leisure read. 🥰❤️ I enjoyed it a lot! The pace of the story is slow and relaxing. The narrative is very calm, and the story is well-written. The amount of chapters is also very appropriate, and it isn't too stretch. Although there's not much about the storyline, it isn't boring at all.

In fact, since 85-90% of the story is about food, I don't really bother much about the main couple and their romance. 😅 However, they are very sweet and caring nevertheless. Their lifes are... more>> more or less smooth sailing. There's no huge drama nor obstacle, and most of the characters' personality are very nice as well.

However, since the storyline is too smooth sailing and a bit too plain, my actual rating is 4.5 instead of full 5 stars. Although I enjoyed the story's leisure and relaxing atmosphere very much, I think the story has more potential, and it will be really nice if the author could add something more memorable and impactful to the story.
Spoiler

Where is my Ruan Yu's extras by the way!? The kid is so cute, how can he has no extra chapters of his own!!!???

The novel was cute and a perfect novel made for those that are foodies/interested in cooking. It's not the best that I have read nor is it the worst. I love the fact that sometimes it tells you how to make some of the dishes and love how the translator also gave us links to the food in the novel so that we know how to make them!

Now I will say that some characters in this novel just makes you wonder: "what is even going on in your brain?!" or... more>> "how does this even make any sense?!" etc, so I would definitely recommend you to search for your brain cells right after reading about them. Besides these characters, most of the characters does give off quite a positive energy.

Slow Romance
MC didn't realize he liked ML till around the 99th chapter. Their relationship gives off more of the best friend/super close friend vibe instead of romantic relationship.

Main couple

hmmm I think they were a bit boring compared to some other novels I read, but in terms of their relationship, it's a healthy/good relationship.

Development/Plot
I like how MC started off as a small chef and it was nice to see loyal fans and those that actually have brains, but then
Spoiler

when MC got really big and involved with the government and stuff, it just doesn't seem that realistic. I was happy for him getting so big, its just really overwhelming.

[collapse]
The ending was also a bit rushed and I didn't really enjoy the wedding extra. The whole nation also apparently forgot about cooking and stuff related to food which was quite dumb and strange I would say. So I really wished that they would focus a bit more on the plot.

Overall, I'd recommend this to people who are interested in food (mainly for those that are interested in food or looking for new food ideas to cook) or just looking for a pretty calm and healthy relationship novel. <<less

It's 80% describing cooking recipes and process... 12% describing how they feel or taste...6% how to feel the recipes that MC makes... and finally remaining 2% talks about other stuff n plot...

Seriously I have mixed feelings for this novel as I love to cook and it's kinda felt good to know new recipes (they're new for me as I'm from other country and I like to recreate some recipes with our local ingredients... So yeah it's good to know more new recipes).... But plot wise there's nothing much... It's like... more>> waiting a really looooooong time to know what'll happen next... You know like you'll read 3/4 chapter then the plot would take a step then again wait for another 3/4 chapter to go further next chapter.... I never got bored as quickly as I got with this one.... It's like I'm reading a never ending recipe book... I think I'll keep reading just to know more recipes?

Edit: after 35 or so chapters the plot gradually developed... But the romance aspect is like less than 1%. If the author described their romance as good as they described the recipes the novel could have been good. But I liked the later chapters and the extras. <<less

For those who want to read about food: THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!!!

This cookbook pretending to be a romance story didn't do to well with pretending. I barely got any romance but was flooded with food.

The overall story was slice of life...

WARNING: THIS WON'T SATISFY YOUR DRAMA NEEDS, BUT IT WILL DEFINITELY MAKE YOU HUNGRY!!!

Translation was awesome! But this groups seems to excel at awesome so keep up the great work!!!

Basically, I was a bit bored with it, so... NEXT!!

Like some fellow readers said before this is p*rn food and the romance is slow. It does have some ilogic quirks (like nobody knows how to cook delicious food) but it's still a good relaxing read worth 5 stars. Doesn't have much drama. The MC mother is irksome and a trouble seeking but they deal with her fast.

Very similar to "I'm using the interstellar livestreaming to raise cubs". Both have exactly same premise, where the interstellar world have lost all connections to their ancient Earth culture. Both are about a transmigrated MC and both are foodie novels. There are major differences though: this one has a better writing style and is better translated; the other one has adorable fluffy cubs and has a much more simplistic writing style and characters, and not well translated. Also, in this one, the recipes are much better written and translated. Basically... more>> both are good reads if you are into food and lighthearted reading. Please do not be delusional and expect more than what it was meant to be. Read if you are a foodie and don't read if you are not, it's very simple really. To those who likes to say that one must turn off their brain in order to appreciate this kinda genre, all I can say is that this kinda statement says more about the intelligence (or lack of) of the one who likes saying this. Fiction is generally intended to be fictional (wow, such a shocking revelation!). If anyone seeks to be educated or informed via fiction, then I am really sad for you. <<less

I agree with hy-d-ra's review.

The cooking gets very tedious, there is nothing else going on as of chapter 45, completely unused details get thrown in at the start with no rationale.

Other than the ones hy-d-ra mentioned

Spoiler

Humans becoming boron based??? Rationale is very weak, also I don't think that they would still be eating carbon based food at that point.... so the entire novel's concept kinda would be moot.

Also, as far as I can tell the fact that he was a film empower has very little to do with anything in the novel, why bother putting it in the title??

So there is some type of plot but the focus is mainly on cooking and describing how the food is made and the taste. There are parts that aren't accurate but the translator is good at pointing it out. And some parts of the story don't make sense ... more>>

like at one point he has butter but says cream and milk aren't developed yet. But you need cream to make butter! And you'd have both cream and milk if you have a finished product like butter.

Logically there are some fallacies and you gotta squint a bit and ignore.

This story is good for mindless reading and to read about food. I'm gonna pause tho because it was getting boring and I was skimming a lot. I wish there was more on the relationships - like between MC and ML and ML and his little brother.

I read the story thru chrysanthemum gardens. <<less

So we have an MC that is a Chef from our times going into future. He is immersed in both western and chinese cuisine and has lots of different food knowledge.

But every time he cooks it's only chinese - asian cuisine.
He also changed the course of thousands of years by just suggesting things are edible. Like no one thought about that before.

Other reviewers are more eloquent with the whys and hows this novel is lacking, so I won't go into it.

I enjoyed it as a read but I certainly... more>> will not reread again as I usually do. <<less

I know I've only read 40 chapters of it but man do I have things to say about it.

I think for this novel if you turn your brain off for a bit then it's a good cooking novel with just the MC breezing through everything with his cooking skill.

Here is the thing I'm alright with that but man some of the logic just doesn't make sense. We can brush off regarding the cooking skills deterioration in the future but even the cannon fodder logic doesn't even make sense

so there is the VP of the chef association found out the MC can cook a newly released ingredient and the first impulse is to try and surpress him... Like make it make sense you're the VP you should just try to recruit him and make him work under you so you get all the credit what kind of brain immediately thinks of surpressing food blogger, author!!

Then there is a weibo user making a speculation that Film Emperor = the MC who is a streamer (which is totally true BTW) and I'm all for MC suing the guy / the entertainment company because breach of privacy and NDA or whatever, but then they were trying to counterattack by saying that he is a consultant at the Academies of Science, like what?? How does that make sense exactly? We're they even trying to discredit MC, not really so what's the point of this exactly??

In conclusion, author just want to make one character to hate in the association so MC can be offered the position, which he rejected so it doesn't even work out. The second one author just wanted a plot device to make MC and ML closer I guess, honestly the ML's brother is more interesting, being blackbellied, hilarious and smart, but alas cold faced ML always win in the end

[collapse]

I'm so confused by the logic idk if I can continue, but the translator did a good job so all the ratings are for them and 1 for at least a good cooking but it's looking more like a food recipe book then the story for me <<less

I really liked the novel. To be very honest, I mainly came for the food and the plot was secondary. My heartfelt gratitude to the translation group for providing the photos of every cuisine. It completed the book and made it a visual wonder for any foodie.

Plot-wise, I quite liked the story. There weren't many serious elements (at least none that couldn't be solved by the OPness of both the MC and ML). However, that in itself felt pretty okay for me because in the end, the novel itself is... more>> a food p*rn. The interactions between the characters, including the side characters were funny and happening. Special shout out to the netizens who made the book more hilarious.

It was overall a good and fluffy light read that a food lover should definitely peruse through. <<less

i liked the story in the beginning.. the translation is also quite good.. but it gets boring and repetitive halfway...i even skipped most of the narrations and just read the characters' lines..

all in all the story is just average... there's no excitement... its like reading a daily life routine of a food blogger.. it can't give you the "oh its so interesting..i wanna read it again" factor..

anyway thanks to the author for writing the story..i enjoyed the food images and how the author described every food the MC cooked it... more>> made me hungry reading from start to end.. and the translator you did a very good job.. <<less

Not sure why so many negative review.

I think it is a well written slice of life story, translations and pictures are awesome. I am back to re-read this book for the 4th times because the last cooking novel I tried to read has an MC that keeps commenting inside his head so much that I stop reading after 1st chapter.

For me this book has a mature and likable MC, a cute ML and food p*rn that makes me hungry. It’s relaxing and healing.

This novel started off with a bang but then plateaued. Considering the theme of the story and its length I suppose it is understandable but it could have definitely been better written. If you are after a nice and short read that isn't too plot heavy then this may be for you.

To sum it up the main focus is on cooking and the MC's cooking broadcast with short arcs. There are some plot holes and inconsistencies here there but I didn't read this with the intention of being nit picky.... more>> It's not something that would detract from the novel anyway. Personally, I feel the romantic progression could have been better executed and found the ending to be abrupt. I did enjoy the read but skimmed towards the ending. The spark kind of fizzled out.

If I could rate this a 3.5/5 star I would. Giving it a 4 star rating instead. <<less

Interesting first half of the story. But gets a bit draggy in the second half.

Spoiler

I love MC's adorable brother. I wish they have more interaction.

I dont like that MC often says he will spend time with him or he will take care of him personally since he is still young, but ended up doing something that takes a long time. (Like the being the judge in the competition. Then spending vacation).

I read this novel completely by mtling. At the beginning, the story is interesting for me. There is a plot (MC's body background, why he was in coma, and there is conflict).

However, after this arc, it couldn't keep my interest. No conflict, no plot. I even skipped chapters. I didn't expect the story to be like this.

The conclusion, good beginning, but a plain middle story and ending.

Buutt.... the translator did a good job!!!

I used to think that the top comment was too serious and critical. However after reading the story, I could agree with it to some extent. I mean it's fine if the interstellar people don't know how to cook those foods, as long as the ingredients still exist and the appliances needed are already available. However this story takes a nonsensical approach by making the ingredients and kitchen appliances unavailable. Everything must be researched and created by the Academy of Sciences before it could be sold on the market. Be... more>> it potatoes, shrimp, peppers or rice cooker, everything was only created and sold after the MC transmigrated to that world. Like, seriously rice cooker? And of course the MC would be the first person to know how to use those ingredients, making him a godlike figure in the food industry and also in the eyes of the viewers.

Apart from those nonsensical details, the story itself is alright, though slightly dull. Maybe it's because the MC doesn't has any family members or friends so he doesn't interact much with anyone. The first 20 chapters are repetition of MC waking up from sleep, cooking while live broadcasting, interacting with his fans then go to sleep again. At the time I decided to stop reading, he had just took a chef assessment test so maybe interesting things will happen later on. However I have already lose interest. The MC is pretty likeable, so is the ML. There isn't much I want to say really <<less
