Probably the best novel I have read. The plot, characters and the setting are very well written.

I actually watched bits and pieces of the drama (The Untamed) first so I had a general understanding of the story and I really liked it, but the novel... Oh boy the novel, a true masterpiece, I cannot stop thinking about this entire series really. Everything from the Novel, the donghua, the manhua, and the drama is fantastic.

Despite the many chapters, I am already considering re-reading the novel because it is amazing, and let's not forget our lovely playboy Wei Ying.

I would LOVE to give this novel 5 stars. It honestly one of my favorite cnovels or yaoi I’ve ever read so far but I legit cannot act like doesn’t exist. If you want to read the story and feel EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT UNCOMFORTABLE BY DUBIOUS CONSENT I would skip the spoiler I put above.

Not only my favourite light novel but novel in general. I love the story, the mystery, the fact that we get to know the story and characters from two view points one starts when the characters are young and the other starts years later when one of the characters wakes up from being dead for years. During the first chapter we learn that the main character was considered an evil overlord and we also get a good natured and well loved kid. Sets itself apart from Chinese Danmei as an amazing story with a touching and moving relationship.

The team over at Exiled Rebels have done an amazing job with beautiful translations that really convey the feelings in the text and of the characters.

An amazing ancient/xuanxia novel with great action, plot and dialogue. From the very beginning till the end, the author shows that this is a pre-planned story, not stretched out for the sake of views or money. Well paced and well written.

SO GOOD!

The story is in depth! The story's narrative switches between the past and present constantly, most were interesting, but as the story progresses, the backstory aspect become too long-winded for my taste. But that only happens towards the end, no worries. 10/10 you'll be too deep into the story and yaoi to stop reading.

The front is tame, but you get many delicious scenes behind.

One thing I must warn! Do not read the Manhwa version. Chances are, you won't understand anything. I started this story by reading 75 chapters of the Manhwa, because I was too lazy to read the novel.

But the Manhwa left out or skimmed through too many critical aspects of the story. I couldn't get a clear picture of the storyline. If it wasn't for reading the novel for clarification, I would've forever thought Jin Ling was Jin Zixuan. I even thought Weiying was dead for 1000 years when actually it was only 13 years. Weiying said "I was dead for a very long time" in the Manhwa, and without any clarification, I though hundreds of years was what the story implied.

But if you're lazy to read the novel, it's alright to watch the animation! Its not confusing and captures the key plot quite well. But it's not yet finished and there are minor alterations to streamline the narration. Since the back story is explained early, switching to the novel after watching the animation might be hard to adjust. So I recommend just reading the novel from start to end.

Smartly written. Everything in the story has been planned and is intertwined.

Story is centered around an overarching plot and the plot is mindblowingly good. Its touching, it evokes many emotions without making it long winded or overly dramatic.

The mystery solving parts are interesting and didn't merely read as fillers. They are also interconnected and you get clues from each case to solve the main mystery.

Romance is slow build, but many sweet moments so you won't get bored. Its well written and very convincing, very wholesome. MC and ML complement each... more>> other so well, they were practically created for each other.

MC is kind and self sacrificing, but he's not typical white lotus. He is smart, playful, shameless, and does whatever he wants.

On the other hand, ML seems so rigid at first so I wasn't very impressed, but he turns out to be a real sweetheart. He just has facial paralysis and prefers to talk as little as possible.

ML is also a very indulgent husband and will probably give MC whatever he asks for. Such great power bestowed upon MC yet he mainly used it for alcohol.

MC and ML love each other very much, and they make each other happy very much. You need your dental insurance because your teeth will rot from their sweetness. It is once said that WangXian's love can blast an entire meteor to dust and save our race from extinction.

Supporting characters are really good as usual from this author. Most of them are solid, including the main villain who isn't just evil for the simple sake of being evil. Some characters made me cry buckets.

I started reading this novel because my friend recommended it and I am in love. The plot is interesting and I love the different characters. The story itself made me cry and it also made me laugh. I really enjoyed it. Would recommend

I can't thank ExR enough for doing such a fantastic job of translating this master piece for my ready pleasure. I must admit that it took me forever to even get through chapter one in the beginning because it was so confusing. Fortunately, "The Untamed" did a great hook with the first episode that brought me back to this novel. The rest is history. I am so, so, so in love with this novel!

This novel has every aspects of dramas in good doses: happy ending & sad ending romances, friendship... more>> and sacrifices, familial duties and betrayal and so much more. It so deservedly to be one of the top TV dramas in 2019 because it follows all the plots of the novel faithfully!

I hope we will see more of such good adaptations of Dan Mei novels in China for live action dramas in years to come. <<less

The end is so sweet, really love this series, one of my favorites, tq for translating it,

I just finished it and..l I’m teary. This was one if the best novels I ever read. There is a very thicc plot, there are a lot of 3D characters, there is a love story based on mutual respect but at the same time the road to get it was bumpy, sometimes happy, sometimes heartwrenching, sometimes silly.

I quite liked it. Same author as The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System so basic quality is already there. Best danmei I've read so far. It really made me feel things when reading which is rare for web novels for me. Maybe it's because translated web novels make it harder for me to connect to the characters and/or world. But this does not have that problem, oh no. The plot was very good, the romance was so sweet and the characters were the best part, especially Wei Ying. He was... more>> just so likeable. And all the sad parts he was in or witnessed were nice and sad which is a good indicator of whether I enjoyed the story or not. I love how detailed the world was. All the monsters and techniques were new and interesting. I only don't like the use of flashbacks no matter how good they are, which they were. I just don't like going from one time to another, I dislike the feeling of being reluctant to part with the current story. I would much prefer it if we had just followed Wei Ying from the flashback to the present.

This is the best Novel Ive ever read.

Ive been hook up since 2017 and the scanlations team which is the Exiled Rebel Scanlations did the best job in translating it and Im forever grateful to them.

The love between the MC and ML are so good that I wish I had that great love story too.

I love the contradictions between them that still complement perfectly.

This is a novel you shouldnt ever never missed.

This is hands down one of my favourite danmei+Chinese novel.

This is a book I would definitely recommend. The characters, the story, the set up, it's all very compelling and beautifully woven together.

The main characters have a healthy relationship rather than a r*pey, over possessive toxic one (as in many danmei novels). We truly get to see them both shine themselves and therefore even more so when they are together.

You got to read this, it mind-blowing ?

Fantasticnovel, good plot, interesting characters, smooth and realistic development of plot, heartwarming characters, action ?, horror? and comedy?.

What more can one want

The only problem I faced was remembering the names but with such good stuff to read I don't care about this little hiccup...

This is truly so beautifully written! Also A plus to the english translators! Y'all did such a great job bringing in the essence and feel of the story! The characters were so well fleshed out plus the plot development felt realistic! Loved it!

Things I enjoy:

• The MC is hilarious and has multi-facets. He can be kind, cruel, dense (when it comes to the ML's feelings for him), sharp... etc. He feels incredibly real to me because of this.
• The cast of characters are varied and incredibly charming! Each of them have strengths and flaws. I think creating likable characters is definitely the writer's strength! In fact, the intricate and highly tangled interpersonal relationships is my fav part of this novel!! And also these relationships is the driving force of the plot! Yo have this charming cast drive the plot??? Rip my heart. I will say that like most BL novels, likeable strong women who are still alive does not happen here, but! at least there are likeable ones!
• The going back and forth between the present and the past. This is definitely the novel's strength. The present has a mystery plot (whos that pokemon? Ahem I mean corpse). The past is incredibly heart breaking. So the structure of going back and forth between the present and the past help breaks the intrigue and sad parts into manageable chunks for me and keep the novel exciting.
• The bromance between all the side characters. Yes this can go in point (2) but seriously all the different relationships are so enjoyable for me I have to mention it again.

What doesn't work for me:

• The writing style of information dump. I have a strong preference for identifying characters by their action and dialogue, and I am very bad at reading blocks of text on character background info. To be honest I almost dropped the novel in the beginning when the writer describes Mo Xuanyu's background because I am just That Bad at reading text blocks of background info lol. Luckily blocks do not happen often!
• That dream s*x scene in the extra

Overall: Good characters, good plot with a sprinkling of cute happy ending romance that has a bit of tragic past.

I absolutely love this novel, the MC/ML dynamic is so pure it brings tears to my eyes. It's also super rare to have a ML that ISN'T extremely possessive with yandere tendencies. Although I didn't give it 5/5 because I agree with some who have said the flashbacks were a bit excessive.
