When a futuristic scientist is transported into the body of a young man in a fantasy world, his curiosity and desire for power push him to pursue magic. In a world without mercy, Leylin has no qualms about doing anything if it means benefits. He is cold, ruthless and calculating, never forming attachments that could impede his ultimate goal…

Honor? Who needs that… Hmmm… that guy seems too powerful for me to take on now… I better keep a low profile for now.

You want me to help you? What do I get out of it? Nothing? Bye.

Hmm… that guy looks like he might cause me problems in the future. Better kill him before he becomes a problem…

I can't understand the negative comments.

This novel is great!

First about scientists, I know alot of scientists. They have great ideas, but all the calculations, deduction is done by a computer, because if a human must doing all the calculations, then it will take forever. A scientist is someone, who understands his profession and try different approach of things, then he feed he PC or program with the information.

Therefore the AI Chip is not so OP like the other novels "divine weapons". Also Tony Stark is also doing this: " Jarvis,... more>> please calculate this for me." It's a super Quantum- Computer that we maybe also have in future.

Secondly here, the comments about love. Is there a love tag in this novel?!? If you all want read a romantic, then go on and read a romantic or erot*c novel. Children come on, stay in your Disney stories and don't leave a negative comments about this.

Third a least, what about a cold and rational MC? I like it, this is his character. Also he want stay alive and don't want to die. Other MCs just piss off everyone and then beat them, just because he is unreasonably strong or lucky.

Just look in the real world, where we live. Don't be a hypocrite, most of the people don't care, when other people in Africa, Cambodia,... is suffering. Concern just want profit, rich people want might: Trump, Putin, Macron,...

If the have magic and can get benefits or just extension their life by sacrifice you. They would also kill and do all the bad things. <<less

Well so many 1 star scores. Lol. Mostly from those who read the novels that inspired wmw. The novel isn't bad, it's holy fvcking great! The author "The Plagiarist" live up to his name and took some story fragments and elements from other novels then add some of his own to make one hell of a great novel. It's a surprise when I saw wmw score had better scores than some of the novels that inspired wmw. 'The Plagiarist' know how to execute the story very well. This one had... more>> one of the most likable Villain/Evil Protagonist so far for me. A really strong, but not OP, but STRONG protagonist. He fights strong beings who can very well kill him with a flick of a finger, but with his cunning plans everything is possible. If he can't win with power he'll destroy all of them using his shrewdness and craftiness. Yep definitely one of my favorite! The deliver is great and a story where everything make sense and understandable logic, a great selfish and evil Protagonist. If you're a fan of evil protagonists then you'll love it. This novel will corrupt you❗

A really good novel with a true evil MC.

I first read this story up to a plot twist that made me realise that the MC is trully evil, and after reading more novels with evil MC, I started WMW again from chapter 1 to the end in one go, and quite enjoyed the reading. That is to say that it might be difficult to enjoy this novel if it's the first time you're reading a novel with an evil MC, but after more hindsight on this kind of novel, reading... more>> it is easier.

The principles of the world developped here are quite robust from begining to end and thus there are not much loopholes and the story stays consistent, which is quite rare among the novels I read, it just feels a bit sad that the MC doesn't show much emotions, but it's what defines him.

The A.I chip is of course a big cheat for the MC and sometimes the questions asked by the MC and answered by the A.I chip make the MC sounds s*upid, but it doesn't happen often and you get used to this interaction.

Also, the last 150 chapters are really really full of none necessary content with too developped points of view of characters that you know will have a s*upid death, and thus, these chapters are quite boring. And that's why I've put 4 stars instead of 5.
Luckily the last 20 chapters are well written and the ending is quite good and consistent with the rest of the story, but it's a bit too short.

One thing about MC is that he stays true to his ideologies (greed/ paranoia) throughout the whole story. Also many people complain about MC not being a scientist or all the things is done by A.I. chip, well when other novels just happens to have MC run into constant epiphany about DAO or something now isnt that random aswell? Or how about those novels where all things that are difficult or time consuming (such as research done here by a.i) is given to subordinates or allies or friends (prime example... more>> being the WOC... even captured enemies become allies who does so many vital research...) So dont judge the novel.

I only have one complain with this novel. Ever since I read this novel I somehow seems to dislike most novels where the MC acts goofy or s*upid or is too naive or suddenly goes from being very calculative/ cautious to over the top / show off/ global beacon setter (again such as so called highly rated WOC kinda novels) dont get me wrong I liked that novel aswell and read it to completion. <<less

This book took me sometime to finish but its worth it. I think I started reading it around the mid of June just finished it today.

Its quite a dark novel though so keep an open mind because some doesn't like this kind of stuff especially how the MC is. PG 18+ guys.

An MC with the selfishness to seek the truth and eternal life. Starts off reincarnated as a weak human that gets stronger and stronger with the help of his AI on his struggle for power.

One thing that made it... more>> a long novel is that some parts of its context always starts to repeat itself or other parts explain itself that made it quite long it gets boring reading the explanation over and over and over so better to skip it when you spot it (just my personal tip mind you). But I like how detailed the explanation is. It paints the characters, the story and the background a lot more solidity.

It really did tackle a lot of elements. Honesty when I started reading it I can feel the difference between other novels out there. Its not some cliche crap that has heroes for justice or harem or simple good and evil. The novel expands its horizon and that advanced in a whole new level.

All in all I enjoyed reading it. The author made a really interesting novel. It really is a must read novel IMO. So check it out! <<less

Greetings my Loves,

So, this story – I don't know where to put it. I don't really 'hate' it but it wasn't that great either. Since it had been on my "Complete-It-List" for almost a year. I thought – just complete it already. Anyhow, my review.

The Beginning
Nothing special here. The usual transmigration 'backstory' we've all read. His past life is basically none existent. All we know that he was some kind of 'scientist' back on old earth somewhere in the future, I guess. Anything beyond that isn't important of... more>> course because weak exposition skills.
Nonetheless, what I liked was that we were thrown right into action, it was fast paced enough for my personal taste. The worldbuilding in the beginning was slightly above average, I'd say.

The Problems

The first problem I have with this novel obviously is his super op cheat item. At the beginning it was okay. I mean, I can live with some plot armour and ridiculous OP-BS. But the author shouldn't stretch it. And he did it again, again and again.
Spoiler

How it is possible for the item to even grow stronger is absolutely beyond me. It's not like its sentient or anything like that.

[collapse]
He is a scientist with an AI-CHIP inside his brain. The author could have explored the advent of Technologic Singularity. You know, AI becoming so powerful that it would change/lead to continuous progress and eventually changing an entire civilisation for the better or worse. This would have given the novel some extra spice and it would have also showed that the author informed himself about the subject he was iterating.

This also brings me to my second problem - the science gets lost!
The first 300 chapters were good! Leylin was portrayed as a genuine scientist. We're introduced to the world's science and alchemy. We are given examples of his experiments how he made progress with his research, explaining his ingredients his research steps yada yada. But sadly, more and more things are dumped on the cheat item without any explanation whatsoever. The premise of the novel is first and foremost, Leylin being a former scientist and second, Magi being known for their research and how they made prowess by experiments and observation. The author sadly couldn't connect Leylin becoming stronger without abandoning the original premise, him being a scientist. I don't need several paragraphs of mumbo jumbo but here and there a rule or an example why this worked and that didn't would have been much appreciated, after all Leylin is a scientist.

I especially hated the last 300 or so chapters - The World of Gods arc.
The entire arc plain and simply makes absolutely no sense.
Spoiler

This is complete bullshit. You can't halt progress, especially not in a world in which foreign powers are competing with one another. Gods need the people's believes to retain their strength. People would eventually make progress. Knowledge would eventually flood to all social groups. Since this would benefit everyone. Heck, gods themselves would be heavily promoting the 'distribution' of knowledge and wisdom since the benefit of intelligent believers is much higher than believers who just follow out of no good reason whatsoever. By creating a safe environment for their believers, gods could inhibit plagues and illnesses. Gods who rely on illnesses and plagues, the fear these calamities induce, would eventually weaken and fall. Prior devote believers of 'evil gods' would migrate to other gods, gods that offered safer environments.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Then his ascension! The author kept pulling gods who were never mentioned before out of his ass. Suddenly this god was a true-god who conveniently holds the same domain as him. I mean, these gods have lived for millions of years. How come that they don't have any trump cards up their sleeve? How come that Leylin is the only person intelligent enough to compete against them. Beings that lived for eons whereas he hadn't even lived for 400 years?!

[collapse]

I personally don't understand the need to procreate. I mean, he's selfish – children don't give him any benefit. He wants to peruse eternal life. They will most likely die before him – it's not like he will get anything out of it honestly.

The finale was so lacklustre. I mean I didn't expect the revelation of everything but to me it still felt pretty meh. Characters
There is absolutely no character growth. Which baffles me. Our MC hails from earth, a 'civilized' environment that is governed by law and order. Not by system that relies on the strongest cultivator or strongest sect. So, one could now imagine that a scientist, someone who was bound to his desk might be somewhat startled, afraid, unsure what to do and effing hesitant to kill someone. But he just isn't, he adapts to his new environment way too quickly. I don't understand why even bother including that he transmigrated from earth?

He's quite cruel at times. Okay, well. I mean, okay. I don't really care honestly. I would have much rather preferred an explanation for his descend into cruelty and evil. But again, exposition or describing character traits such as appearance and behaviour isn't the author's strong suit.

But the saving grace of this novel are the close-up views during war situations. Here I must give the author some credit! This was done quite skilful.
See, it becomes very difficult to emphasize with a sheer omnipotent being like Leylin. He MC, he not die.
Giving us some closeups, focusing on certain people who might be unimportant in the bigger sense of the war, give a sense of urgency and show a different angle of the conflict. Sure, shooting a meteorite into the crowd letting fire rings descend – killing everyone, is mindboggling and interesting, but that's about it. Giving us Barton, a knight who has suffered all his life and sees a chance in this war, for himself and his woman, to have a better life and thus fighting with his life on the line creates tension and emotion, a sense urgency. Or in that case pity since we know that he will perish by Leylin hands. (Batron doesn't exist, no spoiler)

This again is more of a personal taste, but the world feels static. It's like nothing happens until the protagonists makes a move or the author, well – vomiting out what to happen next. In the earlier chapters, the author bothered to include other aspects or to say, the cast, was interesting and contributed to the story. Later, not so much which sadly didn't benefit the story. The reason for the other characters becoming unnecessary was of course his ridiculous progression speed.

Antagonists
Oh well. Something what occasionally happens is the author writing himself into a corner. Leylin conveniently gets saved by either his cheat item or some plot armour. I can't remember one memorable antagonist. They were all bland, sometimes we were gifted with a backstory but apart from that there weren't any memorable ones.

---
And I'm not even going to talk about the hefty 'inspirations' the author took of another work that was published on Qidian a year earlier.
A protagonist can only be as intelligent as his master. It's evident in the later chapters, I'd say around the 8-hundreds, the author had absolutely no idea where he was going with the story. Some things just don't add up. Characters being introduced, never mentioned again, inheritances found without any explanation whatsoever, rules being broken etc. Numbers are nice and everything but without any context they are worthless. Giving us his stats is nice but not knowing what they mean in comparison to other powerful Magi is s*upid.

What does a strength of 52 mean? Are the other Magi more powerful than him? Something I liked in the earlier chapters, we were given actual stats of other Magi. Is a vitality of 44 high or is it low in comparison to other Magi? This was something that actually help grasp the MC's power somewhat. I still don't know how he is more powerful than other Magi after a breakthrough without any evidence, anything to compare it to. It breaks the immersion and makes it difficult to follow through. Edict
It's an okay read. Nothing special. The first 300 chapters are pretty engaging after that it stagnates somewhat picks up around the 5-hundreds to the 7-hundreds before being bad. The last 300 chapters were pure garbage. I'd say, give it a try but don't hesitate to skip certain chapters or you will be angered to death and spurt three mouthfuls of blood. 2 stars because the beginning and the story was engaging enough up the 500s, but it gradually deteriorated after that. Nevertheless, the translations are superb, and it's finished, so pick it up and decide yourself!

Brilliant for a magic fantasy with a solo lead increasing their own power unceasingly. MC is extremely logical and the story is focused around the benefits of every action, with cunning and calculating plans, deception, and an MC that slowly becomes more and more OP. Very fun to read, I couldn’t put it down for a moment!

Anti-hero? This is not a villain-protagonist. A villain-protagonist has a plot.

So, you were transported in another world. NO GOAL. Only the chance to grow stronger.
what do you do? Bully the weak? What is the point? Will that help you to grow stronger? After reading for a while. I kept feeling that instead of being anti-hero, the MC is just plain evil.

Lacks empathy and antagonizes the weak. I also like anti-hero. But not like this. There are alot of anti-hero novel out there.

The start is pretty good, but later on the MC and the novel becomes extremely boring.

He becomes 1-dimensional with the only goal to get stronger. He essentially abandons and neglects everything else besides his chase to become immortal. Everything he learns at the start is forgotten as well.

Alchemy, magic, all is hardly talked about and everything is about his AI Chip (Cheat) absorbing knowledge and creating new methods for him to reach immortality. Theres no need for cultivation too as all he has to do to become the strongest on... more>> the first layer of his world was to sleep with the big bad boss then later on, chase the meal that ran from him for 500 chapters and catch him then eat his way to immortality. He meets new girls every arc who fall in love with him for no reason. They give up their power, rank and life so that his boring and bad schemes succeed and he abandons them to move onto the next arc, where the same thing happens.

Near the end, even the big bad boss eventually 'falls' for him and becomes his ally only to be abandoned. <<less

It's good novel until the supportive MC, aka idiot scientist, finishes his blood transformation and being the Emperor. After that.. It becomes borer and borer. You can drop some arc (The dark world) completely without much missing. The real MC is the omnipotent, omniscience AI chip, not that brain-less macho scientist. The scientist knows nothing, can do nothing, can think of nothing except boasting after boasting, and planning the idiotic plans after plans. In fact, without this good and honest AI, he can not be called scientist at all.... more>> Period. If our real world had had this kind of scientist, we'd have developed into the brainless chimpansy in less than 200 years.

Read this novel to the end, and one will cry because of wasting one own precious time of life. I already did. Hope you don't. <<less

This story is not like others where the MC switches worlds and then can solve all problems easily, gets distracted (tricked) by the first pretty face he sees, or gets hung up on some other world's (in this case super futuristic earth) sense of Justice, morals, values, and ethics. He does what he needs to do to reach his goals so that he can find "truth/immortality" (aka so he can sleep without guilt or regretting anything). This is a story about a person who within the rules and laws of... more>> earth succeeded and when he died and was reborn in a different world that didn't have said rules/laws (confines/restrictions/pretenses) moved forward in an effort to continue to do so, by any means necessary. At the very least that's what I get so far, so if someone who's completely honest with themselves about who they are and accepts that bothers you, then check the tags and description before choosing a novel next time. <<less

I was taking a break from Douluo Dalu and Shen Yin Wang Zuo because I can no longer cope with so-called heroism, self-righteousness, and shy 12 years old virg*ns. And this seemed to be the perfect book to delve into right now.

In what I have read so far, there's no sense of camaraderie, friendship, and loyalty whatsoever. But again, if I want those things, there are other books that can give me those. But this book ain't it and it's FINE.

If you're a feminist or something along the line, you... more>> better avoid this book like a plague. MC is by no means a righteous person. He uses people for his self-interest. He is a lone wolf. He is a scum.

*I noticed my comment seemed a bit paradoxical as I seemed to be insulting this book while still giving it 5 stars, lol. <<less

In my opinion, this is an amazing novel.

Don't get discouraged by reading bad reviews, give novel a try for at least 150-200 chapters and you will get a general idea about this novel.

There are two main points most people are dissatisfied about in this novel. I will try to explain that from my point of view:

... more>> 1. People saying he relies too much on his AI and it's not scientists like:

Of course, he does. If you are given a thing that can calculate and simulate your results in practically 1/10 or similar or less time and cost, who wouldn't. And I don't think scientists would not do so, if they are given such a powerful resource which can reduce time and cost of their project. Scientists are only people after all albeit people who can create innovative ideas. But I think they also use computers or experiments to check if their ideas are feasible, if they don't use such powerful resource then, I think that would be not scientists like. So is true for MC.

2. People saying he is too cold blooded, ruthless, selfish etc etc. And doesn't have an emotional development :

I say, if everyone around you is scheming one thing or other then, you have to be same, otherwise you will be devoured. And MC's stance on emotion are truly non existent but he does help those who are close to him given he can or if he can make a profit.

Let me give you an example, suppose you are standing on railway platform, a train is about to arrive in about 10-20 secs but someone near you faints and falls on tracks, will you jump to save them? You wouldn't. But if it were about 10-15 min away, you would, like some righteous prick. Same is true for MC, if he has power, he will. If he doesn't, MC doesn't bother. But if there is profit to be had, he will risk it.

What I mean to say is people are nitpicking just to nitpick. If he is not to rely so much on AI, people would say "Hey, Author, why give him the AI if he is not going to use it?" or something like that. And if MC were to jump to save everyone he knew, people would say "Hey, Author, didn't you say MC is ruthless, emotionless and rational so, why is he that impulsive, and easily emotionally influenced?"

And though it happens late he gets emotionally involved (though he will leave those people to die in a heartbeat if he encounters a foe which he can't win against). But he will get revenge if he gets strong enough. But in a world where strong people snatch from weak, where people in same power level scheme to snatch from each other and weak wait to get strong enough to snatch from others, I think that makes sense. So, don't judge a novel 1200 chapters long by reading 100-200 chapters. But whom am I to judge other people, everyone has different opinions and this was mine. <<less

Fantastic adventure in a very polished and well written world. For God's sake don't mind of the negative review talking about "not scientist" or "psychopath MC", first of all they don't no sh*t about what's being a scientist is (mathematician and biochemist are two worlds apart for instance) having an AI providing you with a result does not give you a road to follow automatically (tr*sh in tr*sh out and result analysis isn't their Forte), secondly well welcome to the real world where no one worthy will give two f*cks... more>> about your fate and everyone selfishly rides towards their goals. If you want something that has a great story, some plot twists and some heart racing situations well WMW is for you. MC is a pragmatic genius and that is a real breather amongst all the useless sentimentalism you can find everywhere; no bullsh*t and strait to the point, that's what I like. <<less

Don't let the whole "he isn't really a scientist he just has the AI chip figure it out" bother you. The author isn't a scientist, so he doesn't pretend to be one and just simplifies most of that aspect of the story. Good world-building, characters, and cultivation system. Has a nice level of complexity and maturity compared to most webnovels.

This is a very well-written novel and the translations are very well done as well. This novel's protagonist is a very refreshing type of character when compared to all the other generic xianxia novels on this site, who are all about protecting their loved ones and slaughtering all their arrogant foes, without having any repercussions because of their insane plot armor. Leylin is different from all that, he's cold, calculating, and selfish to the extreme. His coldness prevents any romance to be had in the story, his over-calculating brain means... more>> he's always scheming and planning ahead so when he comes out on top in every scenario, it's not because of a last-minute power-up or timely rescue. His selfishness is unmatched by any other character, so when he's mass slaughtering enemies or attacking unprovoked, he's never being a hypocrite like some other MCs (looking at you MGA, PMG, ATG).

Overall, if you looking for a new type of MC, in a new type cultivation system that is unique to this novel, then WMW is must read

Valid Bad Points: Slow Start, Over-use of the AI chip (but this goes away in the later chapters)

Really only the boring academy arc is the downside of the story but it provides the important world-building for the novel and once you make it out that it becomes a 5/5 in every other arc <<less

NO SPOILER REVIEW (also my first ever review.) Not your typical MC. He is seen as coldhearted and cruel or evil by some readers, but it's fitting for the world the story is set in, where everyone is the same or similar. Our world's morals and justice don't apply in this story's universe. The world building is nicely done with the different continents and planes. The story is about obtaining power and breaking shackles, your typical story. The MC very much sticks to his character since the beginning to now,... more>> is smart, calculating and has a calm demeanor; very far from naive, everything he does is for his goal of more power. The A.I. Chip is OP, in a sense that it helps the MC with the mental side of things, such as fast calculations and analysis etc, but no harm there as a fast power up MC is always great and more entertaining. There's no annoying harem and such, just the typically realistic ho*kup and goodbyes. Although there's somewhat of a romantic interest in recent chapters which I ship. Some side characters are developed, some aren't; It depends on the arc. No complaints here. The cultivation and abilities, I really like. Same with the different bloodlines and traits. Bad points? I have no complaints. Overall 4.5/5. Unless you hate a cruel and brutal MC, I recommend you give it a try. <<less

So far (ch 50), this story's MC should be the A.I. Chip instead. He basically does everything for this guy. The synopsis should focus on A.I. Chip. The story isn't too bad, but it isn't great either, hopefully it gets better later.

Too bad once I rate this novel I won't be able to change it later... NU reasons..

Edit: Currently at ch203, I must say that it has improved so much. The A.I. chip is more of a side character now. I would rate it 4/5 now but NU doesn't like... more>> people changing their scores.. <<less

This is an extremely refreshing story, at least in regards to the main character. There's no harem, no romance, no cases of extreme idiocy that I've noticed, and certainly no holier-than-thou mentality to deal with where the main character is concerned. That alone makes Warlock of the Magus World far better than so very many stories on Novel Updates in my opinion. Warlock of the Magus World also has some decent action and worldbuilding. Although the story shares many elements like secret realms, a strict power ranking system, a theme... more>> of mortals being treated like lesser beings, and so on with other stories on Novel Updates, it is absolutely better than many of the stories on Novel Updates. It rises above others simply by avoiding mistakes that seem far too common with many of the stories found on this site. Please keep in mind, this is my opinion as of chapter 186.

(Edited 12/7/2017) Having just now finished reading the last chapter and author's afterword I don't have too much more to say. The quality of the story does vary somewhat from arc to arc I'd say but it never dips so low as to be bad, just more or less interesting. The ending isn't mindblowing but it left me quite satisfied overall. I'm glad I read Warlock of the Magus World and I do think it's a good story. Out of the very few translated works I've read from start to finish on NU I'd say it's vastly better than most of the other stuff on NU. <<less
