On one spring evening when I was eight years old, I, Erica, Duke of Aurelia’s daughter, realized something.

Huh, I have reincarnated into a fantasy world, haven’t I?

Moreover, it was the romance-fantasy girl game that had the reputation of being bloody, 『Liber Monstrorum ~Phantom Beasts and the Winter Princess~』

The face reflected in the mirror was that of the villainess character of that game.

After repeatedly harassing many characters, including the heroine, she would die without exception, signaling the beginning of an event called the bizarre incident. She was a villain who deserved to get the consequences!

—I absolutely don’t want a destiny like that, though?

No, since I have remembered the memory of my previous life, I will make sure that kind of thing does not happen.

In my previous life, I was harassed immensely by an irrationally angry yandere man who thought I was in love with him.

My cause of death, too, was from being stabbed by another yandere man who I only had talked with a few times…

Now that I have become the haughty villainess Erica, I shouldn’t encounter more misunderstandings like with the previous life’s yandere men anymore, right…?

In that case, it will be fine as long as I deal with the death flags that I may have raised myself.

All right! First of all, before the bizarre incident begins at the Magic Academy, I will strike down the death flags accordingly!!

—Or so I thought, but it seems that I am about to die.

Eeh, how did this happen—!?

Absolutely mindblowing worldbuilding and writing. Translation quality is top notch (a very big thanks for enabling us to read this masterpiece!)

I will be honest and say that reading this made 95% of isekai novels I read very lackluster, boring, and predictable (with the rote faceslapping etc). Be it the worldbuilding, character development, or overarching plot progression, the writer packs everything beautifully. That said, the pacing is rather slow, so if you're looking for instant gratification, then this novel isn't for you. Savor this novel slowly and enjoy the easter... more>> eggs throughout the arcs--there are plenty exciting, hair-rising moments and calm times in between to soothe after each of her brush with death.

If you are looking for romance--be prepared to wait. This is more mystery/thriller adventure fantasy, and since the novel follows Erica (whose main concern for the time being is to survive), there is nil space in her head to think of romance. It doesn't mean other people doesn't think it, of course, but it makes progress nonexistent. Harold best boy fight me (´艸`) <<less

When I read the first arc, I thought that this reminded me of harry potter and other western fantasy books (and a little bit of goblin slayer).

No wonder, since this novel gets heavy inspiration from what those books pull from as well. Its surprising since I expected the usual 'otome' novel level of writing.

If you had ever wondered what would a western fantasy would look like in a light novel format, this would be it.

... more>> Also, the foreshadowing is pretty spot on and not asspulls like some other novels.

The TL does a pretty good job of research and clarification too. <<less

woahahhah this novel have everything that u need in transmigation novels, the consistency of the story plot, (^з^) -☆ (i love how the world of this novel is clear and had some foundation built in it, cause usually when I encounter a bunch of transmigation novels the world in the story seems vauge and the sole purpose of the world is to serve the MC -yepp it's kinda like marry sue, but this novel suprised me with the thicccc plot, it just adds realism to the story), love the FL,... more>> I like the independent personalty of hers ٩ ('ω') و, she doesn't relly on other people to solve her problem (well she kinda got a help from her fellow mythical friends, but she worked hard alone to get to the point when these fellow creature would accompany her in her journey), well.... and I lovee pretty boys (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) and this novel just brought a whole plate of cute boys right in front of us (//∇//) that definitely played a huge part in my judgment on this novel (but ofc irl I love the story as much as the characters here)

Story itself - 4.5/5

Translation - 3/5

Story is not bad. Story is separated by arcs, and have overarching plot. It's not pure fluff, and have a bit of action here and there. Currently there's 2-3 potential love interests, which makes it a harem story, but currently not much romance is happening (I heard there's more in the fifth arc). There's several magic systems, with detailed explanations about differences between them. Heroine sometimes is oblivious, but not frustratingly so.

Translation is above average. There have been issue with excessive self-promotion in the middle... more>> of the text, but that issue seems to be resolved for now (Edit (c106) : nope, it's back, bigger than ever.). Other than that, there's some strange wordings, and some things are rarely look like were translated word-to-word instead of properly conveying meanings (but I'm not really the one to talk). It's more or less fine other than that. <<less

Well, this is really good, as of chapter 92, the story is going strong, the mistery is quite interesting and the characters are great. I personally find it quite different from other LN since, at least for the moment, it's not not completely focused in how great the MC is, but is the story of the characters themselves. There are various parties working semi-independently which adds some depth.

The only "con" I could think of is that the kids don't really act as if they where ten years old, at least... more>> not by modern standards. That is expected from the protagonist who is mentally 18, but other character can be jarring at moments. But they are all "elite-genius visual novel protagonist" so it's expected from them to be smart...I personally would expext a 10 year old Tesla, Newton... whatever, to be quite witty, so it's not that weird for these kids to be like this. <<less

The way MC think is somehow weird to me. Maybe because she is 8 years old? But how she driven to avoid death flag clearly sttate that she is at least 18 years old in mentality. Yet despite knowing how incapabe she is she refused to ask for help. Its so confusing.

How the MC act on situation is far from being rational.
Spoiler

In arc one it stated that the cause of death flag is ancient alchemist ghost that achived hand of midas alchemist level. MC UNCONSIOUSLY blurted the key item to Klaus and everything work in accordance otome game. The F***. She then trying to salvage the situation by HERSELF who is a tr*sh. She did not even try to notice the parent or her relatives. The F***. Why? Is this a 18+ y.o. Normaly think?

Wen I first started to rad this book I thought it would be the same as all the otome game books but it wasn't. I think this because of how the plot progressed and was presented.

First the plot starts off normal but as the first arc starts t progress it was revealed that the enemy had a reason for his actions and that was betrail. Not only this the plot was further changed by how in depth the characters personalities are this gave the plot a much needed motivation beyond... more>> "gotta smash that death flag".

Lastly the way the plot moved is always filled with suspense that always feel like the characters really have no idea how their going to survive and that the ending of both the first and second ark leaves some of the characters in the dark of the true happenings that will later be relieved to them just feels realistic because its rare to find a story of this genre that doesn't move from one plot to the next the progression feels like it is a ll connected to the grand scheme of things.

In the end this is a solid novel to read with just the right amount of whats expected and whats not. <<less

LN review here.

Is it worth reading? No, but if you would like a fresh villain otome game, then yes.

Overall rating: 3

I think the reason people rate this story highly is because it's refreshing, like how interesting the world-building is and how much better it's written than most of its kind, and a mystery element.

The rating may increase by 0.3, according to the WN development. Enjoyment: 3.

Nay, I'm not a fan of kid adventures, and I came here expecting a bit of comedy but there's none.

The story progresses very slowly since the author elaborates on many unnecessary things (info dumbing), which dampens down the hype, though some people may enjoy it (How?).

The side stories are actually better than the main ones.

I heard it gets better later on in WN, but as a veteran reader, I have an intuition that it's not worth it. Besides, I mainly read LN, which was already axed.

Writing: 3.

Disjointed narrative, the transition between the narrative and the character's line isn't fluid.

Sometimes overly descriptive over minor things, sometimes vague over important things.

I would appreciate it if the author cut down on the unnecessary description, left imagination to the reader, and progressed the plot instead.

World Building: 5.

Surprisingly, it has a very intriguing world building that is solidly detailed and well thought out; everything is connected to one another.

Plot: 2 (I don't rate based on how intriguing or complex the plot is, but on how they construct and progress.)

A cliche reincarnated villain of an otome game where the world building is surprisingly good but an otherwise below average plot with a reverse harem.

There are some plot holes, with the biggest reason being that the characters turn s*upid and illogical for plot development, resulting in the plot progressing unnaturally.

There are some instances where I found it unacceptable that things were forced or conveniently happened, for example.

An overly intimacy the love interest give to protagonist

Spoiler

the Hafan older sibling's rage for the protagonist that he barely met half a day when he thought she was killed, he kept shouting "how dare" I felt so cringe that I hurriedly skipped that part.

[collapse]

Spoiler

the first prince invited Erika to the restrict area a moment after they met

[collapse]

Why did the MLs even fall in love at first sight with a baby-faced, ~120-cm-tall, 8-year-old girl?

The antagonist's rants about his past and s*upid threatening are cringeworthy too, it was so unnatural.

Spoiler

wraith Zaratan let go of his 600-year grudge for the Aurelian (the protagonist's ethnicity) that killed him because he felt like he had killed the protagonist (she miraculously survived because of her brother's curse) and she wanted to become his friends, and he later came to understand that it was only the traitor's doing, but still, isn't he supposed to be an evil spirit that is filled with hatred?

[collapse]

Spoiler

also, when did the protagonist told Tirnanog about her death flag event, she's suddenly mentioned the prophecy out of nowhere

[collapse]

And many other illogical event.

The good point is its foreshadowing.

Just because the plot clicks together at the end doesn't mean it's good, account the progress in between too.

Character: 2 (I rate based on how suitably they act and their likeability.)

Nay, nah, not particularly remarkable, just another template character from a reincarnated otome villain.

The leads act unnaturally or illogically when it concerns their love interests, like how the protagonist has to do something s*upid to get rescued by her love interests, which reduces my favorable impression of them.

The protagonist is oblivious, or rather, she doesn't view her possible cause of death as a love interest.

The characters don't act their age, this is fine by me as long as they don't goes "I see monkey, I return to monke"

Also, shallow antagonist.

Spoiler

Tirnanog, who's the first antagonist but later becomes the protagonist's companion beast, their relationship could be more wholesome if his entry and background were better written, but unfortunately he was just there to make the protagonist more special.

[collapse]

Hence, the characters in this story are poorly written; there are too many flaws.

Art: 3. It was rougher in the first volume and improved in the next.

I think the translator review cover the rest (the good point)

Masterpiece: 5. Good: 4. Mediocre: 3. Subpar: 2. Tr*sh: 1.

It's a very convenient novel, from a storytelling perspective. The author seems to have thought some things through, but many of the core elements just happen because the author wills it so, and we're expected to kinda gloss over it. I've finished the first arc, so maybe things get better later, but until now absolutely none of the story had to happen, and the only reason it did was because the other characters are snotty children and because the author forced it through.

Spoiler
    • The fascination jewel served literally no purpose in the novel. Klaus and Ann would have challenged the dungeon either way, because they're self-centered children who've trained for years in magic, know how dangerous it is, and yet decide "I'm visiting someone's house for the first time, let's wreck it, incapacitate their house maids, and steal all their stuff!" They're supposed to be nobles children with education and discipline, yet they ignore warnings from their friends and parents and just charge into danger like a raging bull. The only reason the fascination jewel exists is to guilt trip the MC into acting, and naturally she takes all the blame for Klaus and Ann's foolishness.
    • To boot, the fascination jewel doesn't attract people to the MC or even the jewel, it actually attracts people (and only people relevant to the plot, naturally!) to a dungeon. And not in a straight line path to the dungeon, but along a winding path with lots of locked doors in the family bas**ent! How amazing that the fascination jewel has Google Maps integrated!
    • The brother just casually gives his sister his lifetime's collection of magic, because she was feeling a little lonely at his leaving? He didn't, you know, need that for his business trip?
    • Klaus sets up a redirection trap in the mansion for seemingly no reason? He thinks he's taken measures to prevent followers inconspicuously, so why go to the extra effort of adding a blatant maze spell to alert everyone that something is wrong? Moreover, he sets it up with like 5 spellcards, which the MC decides she can't deal with despite being able to counter ~100 card spells of his later.
    • All the magic in the dungeon works super sporadically. The magic writing supposedly only appears when the moon is out, despite them being in a dungeon deep underground. Yet, despite all the soil on top of them, a little cloud somehow blocks the moonlight? And instead of waiting for, like, a minute for the cloud to move, they charge in like bulls and trigger a bunch of traps? And, despite making a big deal about how spells compound earlier, the final death magic suddenly worked on an "all or nothing" system?
    • Klaus' awakening was super scripted, I couldn't bear reading how painfully the chunibyou came out as a bare fist somehow broke apart skin that took way more powerful blows without a scratch before. Was there a reason for this awakening? Kinda, but the author went all deux ex machina and decided to ignore the plot for the sake of a cool photo op.
[collapse]

It might get better, but IMO the plot holes tell me that the author's writing style isn't developed enough yet, or at least all the heavy plot armor isn't really up my alley.

The story at first would seem like a slow-burn cookie-cutter otome-game reincarnated-villianess genre and a lot of people would probably drop this after a few chapters, but bois.... a lot of people were wrong!

The story, especially the first act, at first seems like the weakest act with a lot of plot holes, slow development and predictable story line, but guess what?

It gets better later on! A lot of interwoven plot-line and foreshadowing at first glance seems like info dumps and word padding but they will become relevance latter on in... more>> the story. The attention to detail world building would eventually paid off. Lot of spell and elements of the story are taken from DnD, each region has it's own unique characteristics and personality that would drive each characters from each region in a specific way that some how fit their personality.... A lot of characters are developed enough as each of them will go through a character arc through out the story (even the main protagonist) that you would get attach and familiarize with them whenever they appear as if they are real characters with real motive rather than flat and 2 dimensional.

Overall, just try it until the end of act 3 as the first 3 arcs are essentially the prologue (and the weakest arcs of the story) with hints at the bigger plot of the unseen antagonist and what motive for each characters to operate the way they are

Spoiler

It's the Lunatic King Cain that has his toe in every incident around the continent.

Actually pretty good. Main character isn't a ridiculous cheat and only has vague understandings of future events, and it isn't a contrived reason like the "the author says so" like in many isekai. The overarching villains are competent and feel like genuine threats as you read on, with wide-spread machinations that you slowly understand what they are doing, and the main characters are intelligent enough to put information they have gathered to come to similar realizations.

Read at least until the timeskip after the first two arcs, because the first two... more>> major arcs are more of a prologue leading up to the point where Erica has gained some degree of situational control. <<less

Info dumping

Thats why I dropped this Novel.

It was great, I really liked the story. I made it super far after all.

BUT THE INFO DUMPING!!!

It started out mildly bothersome, with me gritting and bearing it with a polite smile as I learned the exact ingredients and ratios for some mythical wands I do not need

And I got ridiculously complicated descriptions about spells. Like, in the first arc

Spoiler

Klaus? (The fist ml, I don't remember his name) cast a maze spell. And that's literally all she had to say. It was a maze, I can't find dad. But nooooooo I had to skim through this bizarre explanation about composition and sections and yadda yadda yadda

And when she's able to find her brothers spellroom, she wastes my time more by explaining in GREAT DEAIL each and every wand she picks.

[collapse]

Honestly, it becomes really formulaic

Spoiler

Meet the Li, hang out with the Li, do something she shouldn't, meet the shadow beast, have a long (and infor filled) fight scene (which are really hard to pull off in novels btw.) Defeat the beast. Become friends with the beast and have new Li fall for her.

Points added if she gets saved somehow (usually by klaus)

[collapse]

I have no problem with her getting rescued, since I actually like that the MC is not a Mary Sue... (at least not in that sense...

Spoiler

Another thing that mildly bothered me is that the MC is supposed to have a sad, sad, so sad disability of not being able to create magical items and yet... I never see her actually struggle with that fact.

She only uses it to gain sympathy points with the lis and then forgets about it. In the recent chapter I read, it's not even a drawback anymore as she finds that it actiky gives her tremendous powers or whatever.

I don't have a problem woth her gaining an ability cuz it means she can save herself more, but it's seen as the greatest moment of her life.

You know: My weakness was actually my strength! Moment. But...

They could have had her spend more time struggling to make magic items (specially since we see her make a FREAKING golem body for sprit friend #1

[collapse]

All in all, it's a nice passtime read. I was SUPER invested in the early chapters despite its flaws, so I still recommend it, but I just got bored. Sorry

I'm really enjoying the story so far, but the first arc (18 chapters) was really slow. After that, things started to pick up and I started being invested in the story. The world building is really good and I would've rated it five stars if it wasn't for the fact I found the beginning was really slow. I recommend you read this is you're willing to sit through a slow beginning arc to get into the good part of the story.

At first I want to drop it, thought that it's another cliche reincarnated-as-a-villainess plot where the protagonist and antagonist will change role in the story but I'm wrong. And- its WORTH READIND!!!

The progress of the story is great especially that everything is interconnected, and it's amazing how they uncover every mystery behind the death flag. I don't care about the romance part because what piqued my interest is the mysteries and how the story will go to an end.

some new readers may feel bored at start of the story, But... more>> again, Its WORTH READING!!

Well written novel with lots of detail, world building and lots of dialogue thats been translated excellently.

If you like lots of lore about the various cities and gods, the mechanisms of magic then this is the novel for you. Personally I found there was too much detail for my liking.

Unfortunately So far I have found the overall novel really boring and a drag to read. The novel structure is too episodic for my liking. The first 2 chapters almost felt like I was playing megaman battle network. An event occurs... more>> that disrupts normality the MC solves the problem and then has to face the final boss of the arc

The overall premise is about avoiding death flags but I was expecting the story to move on to bigger and better things as we already know that the MC will survive. There is also a sideline of mystery
Spoiler

about the gods, the MC's mother and about the big bad that manipulates everything from behind the scenes.

[collapse]

Character wise I couldn't really connect with any of them. The MC is too kind, then you've got the doting brother, the tsundere guy, the confident, more expressive guy etc.

Apparently the story picks up from chapter 93 So I will keep reading and update in the future <<less

Erica Aurelia, our main protagonist suddenly recalls memories of a previous life when she turned eight years old. She immediately realizes she might have been inside her otome game Liber Monstrorum ~Phantom Beasts and the Winter Princess~ and is able to confirm her theory. She recalls that she was on her way home when she was playing a newly released otome game and she had just finished 2 of the 7 public capture targets (implies they may have a hidden character).

While it may seem like you're typical and generic Otome... more>> Game series it definitely isn't.
This is a fantisical world filled with all kinds of mysteries.
If anything it feels refreshing and the world power system is one of the most interesting I have ever seen.
There is a lot of detail to the different power systems and a deep history behind this world. In the Ichthyes continent where our protagonist lives, the Federal Kingdom consisting of the 4 dukedoms (previously 4 separate countries) there consists of Lucanrant's swordsman, Iginitia's dragon knights, Hafan's mages, and Aurelia's alchemists. On our journey we will encounter all different kinds of magical and phantom beasts and unearth secrets that were lost or forgotten by history.

Erica Aurelia is the daughter of the duke of Aurelia. She has many nasty rumors following her in the Federal Kingdom, though we almost never hear about them. As an alchemist, they can only use magical tools that are single purpose tools charged a certain number of times, so they must always be prepared for any type of situation. She is an incredibly brave character with a talent for combat (whether she realizes it or not).
Though she does have her flaws. Mainly she is incredibly dense to romantic developments. She also lacks common sense when it comes to combat because of her constant training sessions with Klaus (son of the duke of Hafan) and her encounters with phantom beasts.

In the beginning Erica may be portrayed as a powerless alchemist, because she cannot make her own wands and has to borrow her brother's. But she quickly gains power of her own.
Follow her on a journey where she is ultimately faced with saving not just herself but the capture targets and maybe even the world. We follow Erica on a journey to unravel the secrets behind mysterious happenings around the continent past and present as she comes closer to the truth behind the death of her mother and the connection between her and the capture targets. <<less

i can’t find it original, there’s a huge compilation of lots of magic from various heroic fantasy sources (d&d, harry potter, amber, etc) , it’s detailled and varied in that mater I suppose, even if probably not truly that rich (diversity in each aspect is brushed upon), as the characters stick to what they do best... it still feel like a strong point for someone who enjoys magical backgrounds

it’s a bit lengthy, I could serious do without the teas and linch, hopefully we mostly skip the fashion disastrous diversions

the characters... more>> are mostly interesting, the heroine is a bit cold, but luckily not ridiculously self conscious in many aspects even if, pretty oblivious to her own charm - not really a new thing

it’s interesting that she’ll manage to grow a relationship with the original protagonist - I don’t think she understands how she became as much if not more of a protagonist by changing the story

The more things advance, the darker the story becomes, and I hope it won’t unnecessarily sacrifice too many characters to reach the end. It already seems like there’s too much drama and far too many tragedies and victims

- the good part being how she can prevent a lot, mostly by her own strength

it leaves a slightly unsatisfying feeling:

  • because it borrows a lot, (you can also admit it’s quite documented)
  • because it drags a bit, (web novel flow and flaw ?)
  • because it becomes darker and darker, (i hope harry potters is not a model there :/)
  • because something is often amiss in all these - transmigrated or reborn or reincarnated - characters : how long can they stick to some hypothetical story - how long can their surroundings be « characters « and not people... It’s honestly on the « light » side, but still...
It’s not too bad, it’s really just a bit off this and that... and I can’t help wishing for a bit better, because all in all it’s well build, every story arcs stand well and is interesting enough

so basically, it would have been absolutely excellent with a bit of editing (pb of web novels) , instead it’s just pretty good and quite entertaining - and in many way a lot better than many of these type of story

thanks a lot for the translation, there are very few part whci were hard to get, and there are loads of interesting explanations at every chapter

for that reason my rating is 5 for a 4.5 :) <<less

This series is stellar and the translations are top notch. The story arc may have started off as a cliche "avoid the death flag otome game" but it quickly shows that it's much more than just a simple isekai copy. The world and the characters are complex and it's deeply enjoyable.

This story and the world builds itself. It's worth a read.

100% recommend giving this a read! Loveable story, loveable characters. It's a very interesting, very well written take on the popular genre but set in a dark magical world. The female protagonist is strong and likeable; her main objective of avoiding imminent death mostly involve "phantom beasts" so there's a lot of action/ adventure.

Even though romance takes a backseat, there's a good balance of plot/ cute fluff and the bonds between the characters are all very sweet. New male leads are introduced in each arc then continue to appear throughout... more>> the series. The first arc sets up the tone of the story with a lot of magical fighting which wasn't really my cup of tea at first but I still enjoyed it :) My favorite so far is probably the second arc. I am definitely a Prince Auguste shipper haha so I may be biased, but it was a great show of magical world building with wonderful/ loveable characters and a nicely knitted story.

The translators have done an increasingly awesome job as well with very consistent updates so do give this story try!! ≪3 <<less

This novel is fun and captivate with a solid argument without becoming heavy. Perfect balance.
The MC is clever (although very dense because her traumas) and has a heart of gold. The other characters are as interesting as well structured.
100% recommendable.
