So...

I actually really liked the novel at first. It's not really well written but it's pleasant to read and I really like the revenge trope.

I'm not gonna talk about the flaws of the beginnings 'cause others have already talked about it and it didn't pose a problem for me.

... more>> But... I finally have a problem.

I'm not talking about the OP of the MC (come on we all know it's a trend) like someone is gonna kill x creatures and is s*upid enough to let a lot of important things behind. Someone reeeally strong and who has the meanings and subordinates to learn what he could let behind and not use for himself. No. That's fine.

I'm not talking about some great secondary characters that we don't see again and some annoying characters we're seing almost permanently.

I have a proble with the inconsistency of the story. Spoiler alert !

Spoiler

So there is a war and Edora leaves her allies, worse her tribe, behind to follow the MC who suddenly acts strangely. And... AND ! She enters the 11th floor where you get an egg and you're supposed to stay until you get your familliar, to have no egg and leave with no problem.

Like hé, you know rules don't apply to me. I'm a princess.

No, no.

In that case why didn't the twins just followed the MC to the 11th floor to get the eggs and leaves to join their tribe for the war ? She has the eyes to get everything she needs and leaves fastly.

And if we can went and go to the 11th floor, I mean the MC could have find a way to have everything without all the inconvenients and all the chapters about the 11th floor. No need. 1 chapter and it was done baby !

I'm not talking about the fact that Edora is ready to go in war agains her own tribe, so family, for a guy she mets a few weeks ago and she didn't pass that much time with him.

I really dislike the I follow you s*upidly to the 11th floor without thinking and I leave without gettint stuck with an egg. No rules for me.

The writer should be at least a little consistent.

[collapse]

Plus, if the MC really wanted to get revenge for his brother, he would only cares for his vengeance. He would avoid the twins, they are an obstacle on his road.

I'm gonna make a bet : he'll end up a god and with Edora, maybe even an harem. Not excluing his dear brother still being alive or if he can make him alive again...

There are better stories in the same category. Go read something else. <<less

the novel is good if only reading for passing time but otherwise, it is very generic and rather cliche especially the heroine and side characters. There is not much backstory and has a very familiar storyline with little to no much character buildup and characters with no real personality, they all seem similar to any needed characters to serve as a decent backdrop like in most okay novels.

I stumbled upon this series because of the manwha adaptation. I found it decently entertaining, but I found the world building, the mechanics of the "tutorial", and the way the MC's "future knowledge, except not really" worked pretty shoddy, but I figured these were probably details sacrificed on the altar of adaptation, so I decided to look up the original to fill in the holes... Only to realize that those holes were there from the beginning. Oops.

That said, it is still an okay story. I could best describe it as... more>> the bastard child of Tower of God and Solo Leveling, with an unhealthy dose of second chance clichés sprinkled on top, while lacking the meticulous worldbuilding a vibrant characters of the former and the amazing hook and overarching mystery of the latter, ending up as yet another OP wish-fulfillment story. <<less

Takes a while to get into in the first volume but once you do the story is amazing. This is only for people who like ruthless main characters though, and it is a story centered around revenge. So expect a slight amount of edge.

Quick question, although this is quite early as the plot just started playing out but what happens after the MC manages to get his revenge on those who betrayed his brother? What then?Would he just stop climbing the Tower because his main goal was just to seek revenge?Or he would just kill monsters until his sanity breaks?Would he become a Lord or continue climbing to the top?

We can tell that he doesn't have any worldly desires except for revenge so... What then?
Also, the plot kinda sucks with the MC's brother not having any info even though it's about getting revenge for him, and what about the mother? At some point he's going to get that elixir that his brother lift for his mother so who's he going to use it for?Himself or putting it on display?
Besides that things are interesting so far but the update is sooooo long, plz update like atleast 2, 3 chapters at once if you can.

I absolutely love this novel!! It's my favourite!! (≧▽≦) The storyline is good and it feels satisfying when the MC gets stronger each and single time! (*´ω`*) It doesn't take a looooooong time for it to update, which is really really nice too ♡ (> ਊ <) ♡ The MC is likeable because he always tries his best to become stronger in a not annoying way, unlike other shounen MCs (⸝⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝⸝) Most of them of them can get preeeetty annoying (◍•ᴗ•◍) Most of the shounen novels have either the genre... more>> harem or romance, and others even have smut!! щ (゜ロ゜щ) No offense if you actually read stuff like that, I'm not looking down on you, obviously (*´︶`*) After all, I'm just as bad (*˘︶˘*) We all are in this type of community to be honest ¯\_ (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) _/¯ Even some of the shoujo novels are smut (・∀・) And no, I don't read those (´◡‿ゝ◡`) I'm not into me- Woops, how did I get on that topic? Lol! ♪~ (´ε`) Everything in the novel is perfect!! 〜 (꒪꒳꒪) 〜 Henova though...... Wuuuu....... (ꈨຶ ˙̫̮ ꈨຶ)

If you liked Solo Leveling/I Alone Level Up then you will like this.
In analogy, MC in this one is the same as the Jin Woo that was reawakened, disregarding the noob days. Instead of the shadow power, he was given... or "inherited" his power from his lil' brother.

He aint BS around exploring, go on getting new friends... we have an MC that is smart, and level headed (trained from his military days).

But the story differs, as this one is the road of revenge to those that killed his lil' brother who joined in the tower first, became one of the top rankers, then betrayed by everyone around him. Normally, it would disinterest me as it is very similar to Solo Leveling (Gaming aspects, solo player, clans), but it caught me on how the plot will develop as the MC's goal is revenge, and not "I'll be strong to protect those I love" kind of Hero.

So please give it a try! I'm sure you'll like it (plus..! The manhwa's illustration is good! <3)

I was waiting for the SIDE STORIES to be completed to finish the work once and for the review!
-
1. Story ★★★ - It's another tower climbing story with a revenge background, great fights, little development gives the MC personality itself, VERY light romance, and interesting plot's, but at one point in the SIDE STORIES the author got lost to me, unnecessarily none.
-
2. Character ★★★ - As I said before, the MC's personality itself has little development, you know what drives him and why, so far, no problem, the problem is having inserted many characters in the work, some more important than others, and these "important" have little to an OK development at most.
-
3. Enjoyment ★★★★ - It was a great walk, intense fights, very interesting plot's, only left to be desired when the author solved for unnecessary details.
-
4. General ★★★ - 3 ★ it's fair, it has its problems, but if you want to pick it up to read the work, I still think it's worth it, the tower system itself is interesting, the powers are too and the plots are cool, unfortunately it lacks in other departments.

I love this novel. All the top comments are talking about how bullsh*t the plot is without even reading a 100 chapters of an 800 chapters long novel. Where will the mystery be if everything is explained in the first chapter? Would you prefer a cliche mystery where you know what it's gonna be as soon as something comes up? I suggest simply enjoying the story and keeping the plot at the back of your head because it'll be really satisfying when the answers slowly surface.

The amount of plot holes, inconsistent power levels, and even direct contradictions between chapters makes it incomprehensible how this is rated so much more highly than some similar works that have far fewer of those problems. However, despite all of that, it's still a pretty enjoyable read if you can shut your brain off. The comedy is to the extent that it got a few real laughs, and chaotic evil protagonists with dark magic are always enjoyable. Overall, if you like that kind of thing (and can ignore plot holes)... more>> it's probably worth a read.

Reread c530 edit:

I definitely understated just how bad the power levels stuff is... I almost got back to where I previously caught up to TL, but it's just too absurd. Same with plot holes, the author tends to try to patch them later... but the patches create even more. The power level stuff was bad throughout, but it's just too much at this point so I'm giving up:
Spoiler

the MC is still a mortal, but he is able to consume an existence that terrifies the vast majority of gods while at the same time having his subordinates slaughter many major gods

Tbh I read this for the humor though, Shanon's never ending mockery of Yeonwoo's personality and everyone agreeing with him is just too funny lol. Martial King and Agares' childishness also never failed to make me laugh. I don't really like how he became too special since the start and his ridiculous growth. However, despite it all, his personality is quite interesting. He's beyond cold-hearted. He's ruthless, cruel, greedy, and wicked, even to his own self. It seems like for him, everything, even his whole body and his life, are... more>> not part of his existence, but only tools for him to get what he wants. A character who views himself that way is rare. Usually, it's more like 'I'm ready to sacrifice myself' or something like that, but he can't be more different. He just doesn't care because he himself is a mere tool for him, just like everything and everyone. He can fool and betray anyone easily. He can even kill his savior without batting an eye, even though it's because that person also contributed in the downfall of Arthia.

However, it's not like he's a complete machine. For the people he cares about, he would stop at no ends. He lives for his goals, but when they need him, his goals don't matter. He also treasures the people who was kind his brother until his final moment. He never held back his warmth for them, he can be reliable and loving for them. He pays back the sincere kindness he received, even to the gods he always mocked and was bitter to, like how he appreciate Vimalacitra, how he worried about Hermes and Athena, even considered them friends, and also concerned about Ares, Dionysus, even Poseidon who tried to kill him, because they saved him from Typhon.

In conclusion, the plot is quite a mess, however his personality, his relationship with others, his wickedness, and the humor save this novel, so I quite like it. I also like the many surprises and twist, stopping me from getting bored. Of course it's far from a masterpiece, but it's still pretty enjoyable. <<less

The thing is a hogwash amalgamation of random ideas into a novel that make relatively little cohesive sense and feel like little thought is put into it. If you really want to read this novel I encourage you to just go read the adapted manwa since by the time of this review, there is 90 chapter translated which is around chapter 105-106 of the novel. That should give you a understanding of what this novel is like and whether to continue or not. For comparison, this read like Solo Leveling... more>> with more side character interaction plus The Tutorial Is Too Hard in term of climbing the floor.

So who would like this novel ? The usual young reader who want MC being badass and flooring every villain he met, grow at a s*upidly fast pace due to coincidence after coincidence and the usual future knowledge you found in every reincarnation. You can tell that the author don't really plan out his writing beside the bare basic: revenge, skill based and dungeon crawler. Later on even cultivation is introduced just because.

This novel suffer from the same reason why I drop Solo Leveling. MC just steamroll everything he see with zero to no explanation beside "His little bro trusty guide". Sure the novel and manwa show him struggling to get through the challenge but once he reaped the result, his strength suddenly jump up 10 time then the result is the same. Also the power level is all over the place. At first the author pretend to show stats but after a while he gave up cause he know showing stats mean he has to justified why MC keep spanking every villain he face who will definitely have superior stats than him in ever aspect due to the sheer fact that they play longer. In the "guide" his little bro give him, the little bro lament about the missing hidden quest, rewards and gears and you can't help but wonder, if this little bro know about all that, why doesn't all the other ranker know about it ? The thing is practically open secret but only the MC is some how capable of finding and using these hidden quests and items just because. Reading this you might think "may be because high ranker can't go to the beginner floor to get it ?". I assure you that is horse shit. There is a specific story line that happen because high ranker go into the tutorial area just to mess with the beginner. Like if you can already get down there what stop you from just go and take these s*upidly valuable item that just lying there ? They are too OP for that ? I call bullsh*t because MC become almost as OP like them it precisely because of those items.

Tl;dr: Read if you are the type mentioned above, or just don't want to think about logic or plotline when reading a novel. Else prepare to be disappointed. Or like me and predicted the outcome but read it to see if it actually hold and surprises, in this case none. <<less

This novel fulfills a lot of the classic tropes of Korean dungeon crawlers or regression/time travel stories, despite not actually being one of the latter. It’s definitely an enjoyable and interesting read, almost 300 chapters in, but it can be a frustrating read at times for other reasons. One of the main points the novel tries to make is that the protagonist is not some kind of ultra-genius or incredibly gifted in the way his brother was, he’s just incredibly calculating, an experienced combatant and a hard worker (one of... more>> the many tropes to which this novel falls victim). Almost immediately, though, it throws almost all of that out the window by giving him the inheritance of his twin brother, who’s betrayal and avenging it remains his driving motivator for at least 250 chapters, until he has some meaningful character development. While much of the first 60 or so chapters (maybe more) is relatively forgettable, it serves as an introduction to the world our protagonist finds himself in, who he must defeat to avenge his brother’s death, and our recurring cast of side characters, who, despite many being themselves walking tropes, are still deeper, more interesting characters than our tall, dark, and brooding protagonist.
Speaking of whom, I’ve not discussed him much nor what makes him so boring for the first 120-150 chapters. Without any spoilers (nothing in this review is later than around chapter 5 or so), our protagonist is the older of two brothers, who often let himself willingly be overshadowed by his more outgoing and universally talented brother (despite himself being similarly talented in many areas). Following the abrupt disappearance of his brother, our protagonist enlists in the special forces or something and I can’t say more without potential spoilers. He returns to Korea after their single mother, devastated by the disappearance of their favored son and the disconnect that formed with the other, and having already been ill, dies and the protagonist finds out what had happened to his brother. His brother, having entered and quickly become a rising star in another world, leading his clan of friends to ever greater heights, was betrayed by nearly all of them and mu*dered. So our protagonist, having received his brother’s incredibly detailed diary and some of his “cheat-like” powers, sets off to avenge his younger brother, not trusting or believing in anyone but himself. And that’s just the problem with him.

Described as being something approaching a sociopath, constantly suppressing all emotions to retain his cold, logical thoughts, his perspective is incredibly boring. For much of almost two hundred chapters, his overall thought process can be summarized as: “Step 1. Get stronger. Step 2. Avenge brother. Step 3. ????”. While this leads to an interesting and enjoyable story, for much of the time you may find your interest drawn more towards the events and other characters around the protagonist rather than the protagonist himself. While I can say, without spoiling anything, that the MC does really come in to his own in later chapters to become an actually interesting and relatable person, the time it takes to reach that point is long.
Luckily, the universe and other characters the author creates serve to divert your attention and keep you entertained for that entire duration. I focused primarily on the protagonist in this review as I think that’s where the novel is weakest and I actually have the most I can nitpick and criticize. Overall this story is super entertaining and by the point I’m writing this has cemented itself among the upper echelons of KR novels. Overall a 8.8/10 on the Sigismund scale. If I could rate it 4.5 stars I would. <<less

Not a 5 star novel, probably around 4 or 3.5 but seen too many 1 stars for tr*sh reasons lmao.

First off, it's not a terrible novel, you won't be fuming mad that you read it, and 1 stars should be reserved for poor novels not insanely high standards of quality.

Guys bro died and left him his memories, he goes to the tower to take revenge for his brother.

... more>> He's not terribly op but he's definitely stronger than people inside the tower think he should be however he can still be pwn'd.

It's a good read if you want to just enjoy it for what it is. It's not a 5 star novel but the plot and what he receives/earns is decent enough to merit a binge and I'm planning on reading every chapter that gets tl'd.

Don't be fooled by reviewers who just don't like the plot or think it's an overdone pos bc it's rlly not. <<less

edit:- somehow the author f*cked it up, at a point the story just starts to lose any actual purpose other than the MC getting constant powerups and now it feels really dumb, for a whole lot of reasons as well, i'd give it 2 stars at best now,

a shame really, it had a promising start, but the author I guess doesn't really understand the strengths and weaknesses of his own story or writing at all, it's just stale and supremely shallow now, with the story itself feeling pointless and... more>> stuck even when a lot of stuff happens, probably because he makes you care so little.

it's decent,

no idea why the increase in people who are dissatisfied with it but its still more coherent than most stuff here though I do get their problems with it, but still:

Its also got a lot of interesting ideas and a great world, which, at least in its feel, kind of reminds of the tower of god. Mc's development does become too straightforward, but meh, there's dumbed down enjoyment in that as well. Its also got a nothing romance, a lot of other smaller problems with the MC as well, but the connection to his "first life" lets call it, is pretty unique and gives more legitimacy to most of his actions and indirectly, his character as well. He's design wise pretty cool actually, like a lot of the story, so I think his value is balanced out. There are also attempts and space for character development and a clear goal as well which is respectable.

I'm no reviewer so I really won't go over a whole lot of things here and also because i'd take way too long for me to write out as well, but basically, its got a lot of small problems but that stuff kind of makes the story straightforward enough to not allow the writer to mess up in any big way, and the 'writing' itself is ok as well. I treat it as a shounen and its pretty decent for one.

honestly i'd give it a four most of the time but I don't mind giving this decently enjoyable novel a five to offset the oddly glaring reviews, hopefully so that people are more inclined to decide for themselves. <<less

I really like the novel. The MCs character is cold, but not warped. It´s consistent with room for growth.
Not only the Mysteries in front of the MC are interesting, but also the bits and pieces we get about his life as a Soldier, which explain his rational personality.

Most of all, it always put a smile on my face when I think about the Irony, that MC gave himself the alias Cain, while going to get revenge for his altruistic twin brother xD

Initially I rated this highly and this is an updated review of the Novel. I am lowering my score to 3.5/5

First 100 chapters are very exciting master-crafted and scratch all what I have been looking for, a lot of things subvert expectations and this is what is amazing about the series. Initially every hero requires a lot of "luck" unless you're aiming for a tragic hero. Since the setting of this novel is a Tower of god, with constant life and death struggles and test. The hero needs insane amount... more>> of said luck to proceed.

After 200 chapters my opinion started to flip slightly, the amount various techniques that need to be tracked, and not just on the main character. The amount of Mugong this, Sword Art that is overwhelming to the point that more is known about techniques than characters.

After 300 chapters things start getting out of hand, the thing about "subversion" of expectation is that, it only works if you do something unexpected and doing something unexpected every time, becomes eventually expected. To get out of this problem the author breaks his own rules and makes the novel just damn confusing at times.

The main character does not Train, he just wills techniques into existence and considering that majority of his power is borrowed, it is extremely lame. This is not a spoiler you find that out in early chapters.

The story about struggle against tower full of dangers and self improvement, changes to

Spoiler

Story with borrowed mythology and lack of clearly defined goals

DO NOT READ SPOILERS IF YOU DONT WANT THEM IMMA SPOIL EVERYTHING

Some characters are vaguely fleshed out, but some are only superficially while parading as well developed.

Edora - her quirk is being in love with MC and being her tribes next Oracle, no other notable achievements.
Panthe - Rash and Annoying, lives in the shadow of his sister and MC. His character gets parked in "closed training" for 200-300 chapters.

Kahn - The one semi-fleshed out character with his own path and ambitions plans. Until re-united with MC and becomes his tool.
The Pantheon of gods- Borrowed from various mythologies, therefore fakes that depend on READERS own knowledge of mainly Greek Mythology. Even then, The author seems to have only surface level knowledge of these various Mythologies and Religions.

This is visible on every level

[collapse]

Initially I was excited about the world and what it was promising, but I quickly learned that There is no concrete power scale and I hate it when authors flash meaningless stats to represent power.

Spoiler

One of my biggest gripes is the fact that technically speaking 95% of the MC's power is borrowed. 5000 blessings 666 authorities various artifacts that he can craft on a whim, because he collected them all (All Major Craftsmen in the story).
A being that far surpass his understanding at his side since early chapters.

In fact all of his Undead Underlings Far surpass him until 300-400 chapters into the story.

A demon inside that is there to protect hims every time he is in serious danger.

Bunch of gods who are there to protect hims whenever he does something arrogant and s*upid.

Gifted Black Kings Powers, Gifted Dragon Powers... Majority of powers stolen with Bathory blade (Power Stealing without limitations).

The amount of share bullsh*t around this character is the most insane I have seen on this website.
Now I am fully aware that story tries to implicate he himself is a being that comes from the abyss, maybe son of some mighty being and hence it ALL rightfully belongs to him.
In which case f*ck this novel it invalidates all of his already underwhelming "struggles" if you can call it that.
Tho don't count on it the Author seems to change his mind every now and then about state of things based on his mood. Case and Point.

It is said that Gods can't intervene with Tower lower levels and better yet suffer due to laws of causality. Yet there is no sign of that EVER happening and by chapter 200 gods spend more time in lower levels, than taking care of things in their own domain.

Also if you didn't get what "causality" is, it means they change the flow of history by their actions Completely changing future.

Like going back in time and trying to assassinate yourself. In the process making yourself disappear. That is what Violating Causality is.

So much for "no interference" rule.

Finally Red-Herings and Stalling

Spoiler

His brother soul is in a pocketwatch, but it isn't it's just a "vestige", he's in another castle... I mean dimension.

If I had a guess which is hinted at in some chapters, it is In the so called "abyss" where I presume they originate from. Honestly speaking I don't care at this point tho, because there's too much crap around the subject.

The Beast inside him is a Demon, but it isn't it's his "other self a part of him", but it isn't it's a actually youngest demon... ????... Profit

Hades Bestows all of his Divinity onto MC, he is about to become a Divine being and his level has bean teased to be Near divine for a while... SIKE.. your divinity too low to get it bro... but later he gets it anyway, because Hades said he loves him and then MC said "I do". Except... SIKE... you thought acquiring domain of Tartarus and Title "King of Underworld" would basically mean you're a god... NO you fool.

Well I might have made up that part about being in love, but you get the drill.

Also too much cucking

The first 50 chapters are really good, and so are about 100 chapters after it.

At that point, I just wanted to main plot to move on. I think the turning point for me was when he found Sesha, and then things seemed to slow. This is a revenge story, and that was what gripped me from the start, but when I checked my chapter number and saw that I had to slog through another 200-300 chapters of dullness before we got to the main point, I just sighed.

I might come... more>> back to this, as this is a decent series, but I feel it's just too long.

I've read and liked long series before, still reading 'My Vampire System' and 'Supreme Magus' and love them, so that isn't the issue. I think that the author overly complicated matters when they just should have stuck to the main theme, which is a revenge story with a raw and angry MC, who is also a cold-blooded badass. Instead, it's like new issues keep cropping up and distracting you from the main point, which was the reason I so liked this in the first place.

Definitely has a 'Solo Leveling' feel, also a bit of 'Kill the Hero', both of which I loved. If it was closer to their lengths (around 300 chaps) I think this would have been better.

So yeah, the prospect of having so much to go with a story that I'm now slogging through, doesn't appeal to me at the moment. <<less
