During a party one evening in the royal palace, Rachel, the eldest daughter of Duke Ferguson, was reproached by Prince Elliot for sins she didn’t remember committing and their engagement was abandoned. Rachel informed everyone she had not committed the acts they were accusing her of, but she was dragged away out of the party venue and thrown into the palace dungeon.

And so Rachel thought,

“Hooray for my slow doing-whatever-I-want life! No more queen’s education, no more noisy servants–today marks the start of my long vacation!”

Between enjoying all of the preparations she had made for this very occasion and constantly harassing the annoying Prince, Rachel is going to enjoy her slow prison life to the fullest!

I still dont know what I'm reading, what's the theme? what's the plot here? Where's the climax??

Yes, she is in prison. Yes, the idiot prince will suffer. So why the author stopped writing that and continue to dally into different theme?

And what happened to the bad guys, if there's even one bad guy!

... more>> Why no one refute this and free the prisoner? The King is gone, so no one has power beside the prince?

And no surprising that the princess is OP, she can do everything while she's in prison, and can control everything.

................. too unreasonable ah!!
Understandable that it became boring fast. The thing that made me remember this novel, is that the princess lives in prison. <<less

If you've ever read Youjo Senki you would know that Tanya always think she's the only normal one around and her logical is the only logic. Thats mentality of Tanya is what give her that crazy edge we all love, and I can say without a doubt that Rachel has the same mindset as in;everything must be logical to her whims. All in all its a beautiful novel.

This is just a senseless comedy. It is one of those story where you need to turn your brain off or you will be just annoyed by it. Here, are some examples:

    • MCs character changes way too much. She gets introduced as a true psychopath, who tries to kill a prince in public for stopping her from eating a slice of cake. Then she rather goes to prison than getting rid of the people that makes her life hard. By the last chapter she is just a rebellious teenager that gets handled by her parents.
    • Her main opponent is too weak. Am I supposed to impressed how she handles a child (mabe a young men) with very low IQ and even lower EQ?
    • She is extremely capable, basically a Mary Sue. Which begs the question: Why would she bother with any of this stuff? She could just leave the country and be happily lazy somewhere else.
    • Many characters, especially female ones, are so strange that I can only assume that this plays on some alien planet.
2/5 for some decent jokes.

You won't regret reading this. The interactions between Rachel and Elliot are very entertaining especially how she tries to drown him when they were just children.

Spoiler

It was very funny how instead of supporting her children the queen would rather support Rachel since she doesn't think her kids could be great kings without Rachel's help.

[collapse]

Although Raymond (second prince) is still a kid I wanted to see some more interactions between Rachel and him. Raymond seems to be an idiot and a masochist and since Rachel comes of as more of a sadist, their relationship would have been really fun to watch. <<less

This is supposed to be a parody, and it might be a great one originally, but the poor translation makes it hard to enjoy the story and that is all you need to know.

If you are exceedingly bored and are that type that can read machine translated works you might not mind.

Seriously, read this, you will not be disappointed. It's a comedy, damn near pure comedy gold. This is the type of comedy that you'd expect from professional standups, and it goes on for 49 chapters. I've caught myself laughing like crazy on numerous occasions reading this novel, the main character is hilarious.

That's probably the best part, the main character and her intelligence. Her sharp tongue and sharper wit is put on full display throughout the entire novel. Far from being unhappy about being in prison, she straight up knew about... more>> it ahead of time, took measures and made sure to have a fun vacation. Every scheme that is thought up to try and get her to admit to her crimes is cleverly and severely beat down by Rachel the protag. She consistently outsmarts the prince and his group with every time coming down to a hilarious result.

Not only that, but as the novel goes on, you find out more and more what kind of a person Rachel is. She is legitimately the evil villainess, she's just not malicious, callus and took her responsibilities seriously. Now the gloves are off inside the prison, and without her position as next queen weighing her down, she's free to cut loose finally. She's also not out to kill, just mercilessly and psychologically damage her opponents till their left as a quivering mess. <<less

This is easily one of the best novels I have read on this site.

If you loved Hogan's Heroes you will love this novel. Because that's what it is. Except instead of an American Air Force officer in a prison camp, you have a duke's daughter in a dungeon. Instead of an incompetent but not really malicious Luftwaffe officer imprisoning the hero, you have an even more clueless and thoroughly useless prince playing Colonel Clink.

It really does a truly great job of making the reader laugh. There are truly priceless scenes... more>> and lines throughout novel. The characters are wonderfully enjoyable.

Most importantly it's 55 chapters give or take, it's complete, and a well told story without any hint of fat or padding to it. There's no 10 chapter arcs where the viewpoint is about making bento. There's nothing where you have 5 point of view chapters where everything is the same and they are only there to let the author copy and paste. This is a fine work of the writers craft, something other web novel authors who produce hundreds of chapters of nothing could learn from.

Bottom Line: READ IT. IT'S DAMN GOOD.

There's even a manga that's also really DAMN GOOD

Oh and not to forget a big thank you to the translator. I don't know what the raws were like but this was a very smooth read. <<less

Unfortunately, I cannot complete this novel before giving my review as I am dropping this novel after c32.

Slow Prison Life has a unique setting that begs for you to read it. However, the author manages to royally f*ck it. This slice of life novel has no major movements of comedy or intense drama or romance, or any mystery that you really car about.

There is just so much I want to yell at this novel for! An excellent setting was destroyed by tr*shy characters, suspension of reality, and a general meandering... more>> plot. The main character is so uninteresting that something as interesting as a mysterious super powerful organisation created by her also fails to interest you. In fact, the reason for why she is so brilliant is unknown.

I had originally given it 3. But midway thorough this, I realized that it is a 2. I don't know if the ending is good or not, but I have effectively read 67% of this novel. If it does have a conclusion, it will have to be hell lotta rushed towards the end.

This is not Mango approved. <<less

This is such a hilarious parody of the "Wronged Fiancee Broken Engagement" trope that you can't help but facepalm and laugh.

The prince fiance is as template as they come but beyond this, everything goes crazy in the story.

It's a bit hard to write a decent review without spoilers but I can safely say one thing. By the end of it, EVERYONE wants her out of the dungeon. Except herself. Lol.

Read it, just not in a public place if you don't want to get funny looks as you start giggling to... more>> yourself. Yes, even as a guy, you'll giggle. <<less

The novel has a different touch to it in a good sense. Novels these days usually consists of MC being reincarnated with OP powers or being reincarnated in an otome game. This novel's MC is a freaking savage even without being reincarnated or granted powers. The novel definitely deserves a 5/5 rating. It has me laughing very few minutes because of how she deals with the Prince and other nobles. I'm looking forward to the upcoming updates~ Thank you translator for translating the novel for us ^^

Hilarious. This novel is perfect to read if you need a good laugh. A plot not too serious, yet it really hits the spot for how ingenious the MC’s harassment ideas are. Hands down one of my all time favourite.

This story is a masterpiece. You would think the premise was only good for a short story, as how many ways can she torture the prince from inside a cell? Yet instead it only gets better as every chapter she does something more outrageous and hilarious.

This LN is alot like Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle. Basically, our MC just bullies te f*ck out of the castle residents, though it's mainly towards te prince and his pals. This story isn't trying to be serious, isn't trying to be cohesive, isn't trying to be the next big hit, it's literally just a big pile of crack. You're not gonna see much, if not any lore or world building. Its a comedy though and through. 10/10, would get high again.

I don't get why ppl said that the story was boring and dull? There was 'slice of life' tag after all so it's obv not that much storyline. Rather than a comedy with a bit of suspense and drama in the later chapters (like every comedy story), this is more like Gintama or Maou Jou de Oyasumi (MJDO is very similar since both FL's from both stories were imprisoned and don't give an f about it.

Other thing I iked, is like MJDO I find this story... more>> 'time friendly.' When I take breaks from writing essays, I come here and read atleast two chaps before my mind calmed down (Wag tularan mga boys and girls, it's just a convincing way to call myself a lazy procrastinator.) Just as the others said, this LN is basically your crack-to-go hence, I'll give this a five star rating. <<less

This novel is hilarious. I love Rachel so much especially when she tormented Elliot until he had mental and emotional breakdown. All the things she had done were for avoiding the Queen educational class and also forced Elliot to step down as a crown prince so her engagement naturally will be severed. But in the end, she miscalculated the king's mind.

Spoiler

The king knew that Elliot was hopelessly idiot so he needed Rachel to help him govern the country because she was so capable. The clueless Elliot always felt that he was worthless when he saw Rachel's capability. That's why the "delicate" Margaret was able to capture his heart because she could boosted his ego, unlike Rachel.

Rachel finally managed to get rid of his engagement with Elliot but she miscalculated the king's impression towards her. The king knew that his sons weren't as capable as Rachel so no matter what, Rachel will be the queen while her groom changed to the second prince, Raymond.

[collapse]

FYI, if you want to see some fluffy and romantic scenes in this novel, maybe you'll be disappointed because there weren't any. Even Raymond, the one who was supposed to be ML, was only mentioned briefly.

Spoiler

Speaking of Raymond, he was kind of weirdo. He loved being ignored by Rachel and he repeatedly said that he loved Rachel's big brea*t. In case you forgot, he was still a minor so for him to say such thing was a bit disturbing.

Raymond wasn't the one who had a pe*verted mind. Even Elliot and his cronies kept talking about Rachel and Margaret's bodies. However, Elliot who was supposed to fall head over heels towards Margaret, didn't seem to mind with his friend's fantasy towards his girlfriend.

[collapse]

Near the last chapter, I thought the author will focus more on Rachel and Raymond's development but unfortunately, the author kept focusing more on Elliot, even in the extras.

Also there's no conclusion as the story came to end. Rachel stubbornly kept staying in the dungeon so she could avoid the queen's education. Her relationship with Raymond was also going nowhere. The extra chapters were pointless and we didn't even get a royal wedding. <<less

This was such a good read! The MC is hilarious and the sad thing was, I could relate so much with how she thought. Not so much the ¨lets kill everyone¨ thought but the ¨why bother¨ thoughts. I just wish it was longer. I procrastinated reading the last chapter for so long but eventually I couldn´t bear it anymore and now it´s over!

4 Chapters until finished, and I could tell you this is one of the best novels I have ever read.

The premise made me hesitate, but I decided to try it out anyways.

I have never met a novel that made me laugh as much. The chapters are all really entertaining and you never gets bored. This is like the Gintama of novels, with it’s amazing humor.

... more>> —————————————————————————————————————————————————

Sunmary:

The protag is a genius and a massive sad*st who decided to escape from being a queen by being in jail. She’s the typical villainess in a otome game except she’s not. She didn’t do anything bad besides the time when she nearly killed the Prince, but the Harem Member #1 (Prince) decided to try to frame her before his parents comes back along with the Heroine.

This whole novel revolves around the ‘Heroine’ and her harem members trying to frame MC. MC and Prince is engaged but Prince fell in love with ‘Heroine’.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

The concept looked like an otome game.... But it’s not. It’s amazing. Words cannot describe how much I love this thing. If you like Comedy series (Not Romcom), check this one out.

*No fighting scenes or things like that. This novel cannot be explained. Just read it. <<less

This is one of those novels where, if it's on the same wavelength as you, you'll enjoy it. If it's not, then you won't.

The draw of the story is the comedy, so obviously, not everyone will "get it" or think it's that funny. Personally, I thought the beginning was pretty interesting but it started getting repetitive with zero plot or character development, just one antic after another.

None of the characters, MC included, are very realistic or fleshed out, at a certain point, I just got tired of the exclamation marks,... more>> shocked looks etc. When the prince tries to get his way and fails (again and again and again).

But you won't know unless you try it to see if it's your cup of tea, so I recommend making an attempt at least. <<less

It was an amusing read. I really liked this novel. It was very lighthearted. I recommend to people who don't want to read anything exiting but more relaxing novels.

Story started on a serious note but quickly turned out to be comedic all the way to the end. The story didn't really have any deep elements and it didn't really need 'em. Humour was good and the ending was quite fitting. I would at the sametime like a sequal and also I wish the story to stop here. It was good.

There... more>> were some boring parts and for some reason sometimes it was a real struggle to read the chapters...? Don't really know how to describe that feel, when the chapter has nothing wrong with it, but you feel like you've been reading it for an hour. <<less
