“I am the heroine of an otome game, so is it wrong to like the villainess?”

Corporate s*ave OL, Oohashi Rei, reincarnated as the heroine Rei Taylor in the world of the otome game 「Revolution」.

Her preference isn’t the capturable princes, it’s the villainess, Claire François.

She merrily accepts Claire’s dislike.

With the protagonist’s involvement, it’s the beginning of a unique romcom.

To make it worse, Rei’s love became directed at the villainess, what does Claire’s future hold?

It’s my second series with a screwball villainess.

A little different from ordinary… I hope you can enjoy the villainess who’s just a little different.

Well, I can say is, It's great! It's different from the usual Isekai power play I read.

As the synopsis says, the MC which is called Rei, she's then Isekaied to her fav love sim game and goes with the villainess route. It is very light-hearted and cute, Rei just messes around with the Tsundere Villainess/Heroine which is called Claire, on a daily basis.

But at times the plot turns serious, hinting on events that could destroy the Rei everyday life with the Claire. I really like the change of atmosphere in... more>> the novel and when that does happen I get worried and excited how the MC's going to handle the problem.

As for the characters, as the story goes on the relationship between Rei and Claire gets deeper and more Yuri, no echii thou. We also get a glimpse of the MC's past little by little and the reason the MC's so addicted to the Villainess/Heroine. The interaction between the two is, Rei teases Claire and declares her love anytime she can, this direct approach gets Claire closer to Rei, and Tsundere Claire goes Dere~ more often. (Love it when this happens!)

Finishing this off, I really like this and hope it continues to get better. I think you should totally read this if you like your light-hearted and cute novel but also like a bit of drama included. For the Isekai consumer like me, give it a try as it's a similar concept but new at the same time. <<less

Made an account to review this. I've never seen a novel bungle it's premise this terribly. In fact, I only finished reading to write this review.

So, the idea of a heroine x villainess novel is great. I am a sapphic woman, so I am all for this.

The execution is off, though.

At first, the main leads' relationship is funny in that anime way, a cute twist on the typical otome game relationships. But it just keeps escalating, and before long, it's just flat out s*xual harassment. I think the main character flat out says she's harassing her love interest at one point. This is troubling enough even if you don't consider the fact that the main character has the mind of an adult and the villainess does not. Then the main... more>> character becomes the villainess' maid and the harassment only continues to escalate. She should file a restraining order. It's a shame, because the two main characters have some nice interaction when the harassment isn't happening.

This nonsense is worsened by the fact that the author is using this novel as a soap box to discuss their opinions on gender identity and sexuality. Normally I'd be fine with this (when it's done well, which this is not), but it's absolutely crazy to go on rants about how lesbians are discriminated against and stereotyped when your main character is literally a lesbian predator stereotype. The main couple's dynamic is straight out of a 1950s pulp novel (minus the sad ending). Normally, in a light novel, I wouldn't care, but the author brought it up.

The plot also goes off the rails (see lmotl211's review for how), especially after the first part, but honestly, the issues above are more important to me. <<less

Pretty interesting series that touches topic like persecution of minorities such as homosexuals and people suffering from gender dysmorphia and delves a lightly into political system, unlike a lot of fluffy but ultimately empty stories.

Authors worldbuilding is quite idealistic, with acceptance of a lot of normally taboo topics side by side with casual attempted mu*ders, but crucial setting like the magic system and the fights seems like an afterthought.

Overall an enjoyable fluffy romance/slice-of-live with a bit more substance than of the typical stories in genre, but worldbuilding could do with... more>> a little more detail. <<less

This is one of my favorite yuri novels, so I'm kind of biased with this rating xD

The story is really good even though the first few chapters were very uncomfortable to read (the MC is very pushy and creepy for others, but I think I would definitely act like her if I were in her situation). However, the build-up of their relationship is plausible. You can't help but squeal on some parts.

I read this story when I had no idea that there will be part two. When I finished the... more>> part one, I actually cried because I was so attached with the characters especially on Claire, the FL (she's so likable! I want her to step on me).

I really like the part one, but the PART TWO is f*ckin great for me. You could see the improvement of the Author which is why part two captured my heart. The author showed the story beyond my expectations. The characters are more likeable here for me. I just want them to step on me.

The part two is still ongoing so I'm looking forward for the updates. I love you Inori-sensei >\\\< <<less

It was a strong 5* for me, until empire arc. In my opinion this novel should stop after extra stories. After reading empire arc it is only 3*. It is a shame that after building such nice story, empire arc just fck it up

As u guys probably know there aren't a lot of GL novels that are translated.

I was following this when it was still updating there were probably like 22 chapters that were out the story starts kinda weak at first I really didn't have a lot of hope for this series. At that time this was one of the few GL series' that was getting TL'd I dived in without a lot of expectations but I gradually fell in love with this series with the character.I used to wait eagerly for... more>> two days, when the update came I sat down to read this with a cup of coffee everytime.

I felt happy when sth good happened for Rei & Claire.I got sad when sth bad happened, cheered for the good characters, despised the bad ones. During the last part of the series I was really anxious for both of them I was hoping, praying that they would have a happy ending. When the series finally concluded I ended up crying because of how happy I was.

Inori sensei really planned the plot from the very beginning and didn't drag the story on like most WN do these days. That's another part I really loved about IFTV. This really set another bar for the GL genre, the story became unique as the plot progressed and I hope we get more good stuff like this in the near future. Also I pray & hope inori sensei does well with her other works and has a fulfilling life thanks for this series will always have a special place in my heart.

(FINGERS CROSSED THE LN SELLS WELL & WE GET A MANGA ADAPTATION AND I KNOW THIS IS HOPING TOO MUCH BUT PROBABLY AN ANIME TOO THEN I COULD DIE AT PEACE XD)

thanks for reading my looong review just wanted to shout out what this series meant to me. Hope u have a nice day & please give this novel a try bear with it a little at first believe me u wont regret it... <<less

I love this series so much!

From my early impressions, I figured it'd just be another lighthearted yuri romcom where the romance is either played up for fanservice or left very vague. But, as the story progressed, the political drama unfolded, and the protagonist slowly but surely thawed the heart of her beloved tsundere, I found myself growing very attached to the world and characters, especially the main couple.

I couldn't stop rooting for those two wonderful ladies, and nearly cheered out loud when they finally got together.

A must-read for fans of... more>> yuri light novels and LGBT content (yes, there's representation for more than just the letter L there) ! <<less

A definite read for yuri lovers. Its I good story that mixes humor and drama very nicely. There are times where it feels that the plot sidetracks a bit, but it all comes together for a satisfying ending

I LOVE this story! I am too lazy to write a review but this was my first yuri light novel I've read and I finished it in ONE day because I was so obsessed with the story and the cute main character and female lead! Claire and Rei are ADORABLE! Claire is a bit of a tsundere while Rei is more straight-forward with her feelings and is a genki-type character. They work very well together. I hope the author continues to write more stories!

I'm just gonna throw this right off the bat and say that I'm really biased for this novel because it's my favorite. If you like yuri, comedy, isekai, and drama, I suggest that you give I Favor The Villainess a read because I'm sure that you'll like it too. I'm glad that Inori-sensei wrote this. If you're already reading it and is hesitating whether you should read the second part, I *highly* encourage you to read it. The more the story approaches the end, the better it gets. Maybe you... more>> wouldn't like how everything will turn into a sci-fi and tragedy story or something. But it all depends on whether you want to or not. Just a reassurance, the story has a happy ending.

I read WataOshi without knowing anything about it. I honestly just wanted to read some yuri novels. I got hooked right from the start. If I may be so bold, I would call this a masterpiece. The concept is really good. There were a lot of unexpected turns and developments which helped to build the story. I came for the yuri and I got it. This is the perfect amount of romance, comedy, and drama. The plot twists leave me breathless wanting to read the next chapter. Each chapter left me with a mix of emotions. As the story progressed, I was really happy to see how Rei and Claire's love story bloomed. The truth about how Rei was brought to the magical world left me speechless. When I started reading WataOshi, I didn't know what I would get myself into. Certain parts of the story made me cry. To be honest, I wasn't really the type of person to cry because of simple things. Reading this novel has been wild ride for me. I enjoyed every last bit of it.

I have been supporting WataOshi since the first part of the story. I never expected that it would have a sequel. The ending is really beautiful. The resolution is really great. In the last 20-30 chapters, I thought that it would end in a bad way. Inori-sensei really is good at making me feel happy, sad, and worried. I'm glad that the story had a happy and perfect ending. <<less

The author admits to leaving many plot holes open but decided to finish where she did.

Disappointed

What I hate the most is there was no Yuri get together scene.... just a kiss thats about all..... after all that just wanted one scene come on. They had a f***ing time skip after they confirmed feelings. I wanted to see how they adjusted and grew to love each other more and they skipped all that and showed to where they love each other now. I wanted to see them grow together and be there for each other. Spend time together etc. Like damn give us a few chapters... more>> of them spending time together after all this politics bs, death, rebellion all this bs but noooo.

Honestly I read till 112 which people are referencing as first part and then it sequel or something... <<less

If you want to enjoy it, do not read the part 2 of this book, the part 1 is where it should have ended.

On another note, this book is an amazing read and if you are a fan of the Shoujo ai and otome game genre, you will find this book amazing.

Spoiler

Part 2 is for me the equivalent of what Boruto is to naruto or what JK rowling did after finishing her book, unneeded and bad plot made to ride on the wave of a previous succesful story, this book part 1 end in the best way possible and I, for sure, was satisfied with that ending. I started part 2 thinking it would be an afterstory of the main book, I regret seeing part 2

[collapse]

If I had to take part 2 into account for the rating, this would be a 1. My previous note of 5 only account for the part 1, which is for me a masterpiece, part 2 is something that I would have dropped and given a 0, had it not been a continuation of an all-time favorite book of mine and me respecting this piece and not wanting it to be buried. <<less

The first part of the webnovel is already great as it is it's a HE........... FOR THE FIRST PART, but when I took a look at the sequel there's this other Rei's or parallel blah blah blah and that just ruins it all, and I don't like where it is going, ... more>>
Spoiler

I don't know about others but I want the Rei that was with Claire since the beginning to be the endgame since that's the main point of the synopsis right? or I could be wrong since I'm not the author's brain but anyways looking at the recent chapters it seems like that's not gonna happen

[collapse]
I thought this is some Medieval period kinda story with an ounce of yuri and magic at the side but guess what it turned into some kinda Sci-fi in the second half. If you are fond of Life is Strange and read the comics so called sequel then you'll know about the multiple Max and Chloe's and how devastating the events turned out then this is just the same, I might get back here when this whole novel is done and see if it has a satisfactory ending, for now, I'm out, Also kudos to the translator for translating 💙 <<less

Some of the best yuri content out there. The story follows a smooth progression and has good pacing. The main characters are written well but supporting characters tend to be pushed to the side. The plot is solid but not bullet proof. One example would be the slime pet the MC gets near the beginning. It is rarely mentioned and after a certain main event only ever appears again in passing as a pet despite being the MC's familiar and is all but forgotten in the continuation. The author does... more>> a good job flushing out the main characters which makes up for things like this and I'm hoping the published version will account for things like that. Another issue with WN is magic. It feels forced, and is mostly just there to increase tension. It is never truly intergraded into the story in a way that feels natural to the world being built and acts like a "deus ex machina". Honestly, the story would work fine without it. Later on in the second part, it becomes more of the focus of the story and this is where the writing gets worse. The plot is interrupted by random magic battles and a side plot introducing fighting and demons. It again feels forced, if the author is trying to experiment thats fine, but doing so in this novel really hurts it.

Despite those complaints, everything else is pretty solid. The protagonist feels refreshing, unlike most otome isekai girls, she is proactive and rather than worrying about "flags" and not doing anything, she takes a proactive approach to get what she wants. She also doesn't p**syfoot and is very straightforward and the biggest thing for me, is that she isn't dense. The romance is also very heartwarming, and the way that the love interest changes feels natural and fits very well with everything that is happening around her. The message the author also tries to convey can be a bit preachy at times, but it still makes sense in the context of the story.

So far, not just yuri, this is an excellent romance story, I am hopeful but also worried to see how the plot unfolds. All the things that are great are still present in the second part but this sudden focus on magic battles and inhuman enemies is beginning to weigh the story down and could be what kills it. I hope I dont have to change my rating later on. <<less

It started out interesting but the further the story went on the less it became about the romance and it turned more and more into a political rant. Frankly the author should have followed the advice they themselves gave earlier in the story to "stay away from religion and politics" as those are indeed subjects that just tend to annoy people. It would be one thing if this was a political/intrigue story but this was portrayed as a romcom so throwing in random political rants just hurt the story to... more>> the point where I eventually dropped it. <<less

Actual rating 4.8/5

I'm honestly struggling to put my feeling into words that'll convey what a journey it was. After all I'm just a plebeian reader not a writer.

It starts and ends in a well thought out clear objective in mind with a theme that's consistent. And it's ending also hit me like how TenSura hit me (but with different nuances, mainly satisfaction and yearning for more however leaving it to the reader's imagination is perhaps for the best yet I still wouldn't mind reading how the story of Rei and... more>> Claire continues).

There are obvious crinkles and wrinkles, somewhat loose and open ended plotlines, still they don't really subtract much from the story and the enjoyment. That may be because of my habit of trying to deal in absolutes. Of course the story isn't perfect, it's not the next literary masterpiece that will be remembered by generations to come. In my opinion that's fine. A perfect story would dissatisfying after all, since nothing would surpass it, leaving nothing to the future. A perfect 5/5 is something to chase for and never reach.

With that being said, this novel is something I can confidently recommend to my friends and acquaintances heck even strangers in some forum without any shame or apprehension. Sure the settings, theme and content of it is anything but conventional (besides being blatantly isekai'd also not by truck-san but instead it's mr. Overwork), if one gives it a chance with a open mind it is my belief they'll find something in it that they can relate and like.

And lastly it holds a message of overcoming fate through cheats, (of near omniscient knowledge of the environment) determination and preservation to create truly unique story that which never could have existed within in the confines of the 'game' or life. In a sense, Oohashi-san really did create a masterpiece she would've died for didn't she?

That is something I can be satisfied with. <<less
