Characters: 4/5

Okay, the characters are all pretty likeable. But honestly, I find MC a little.. bland? And ML too.. considering the amount of chapters I've already read and the type of novel this is, I would have wanted more character development and overall complexity of character. Like they're not one-dimensional, but idk, I would have wanted a bit more...? MC's ability also seems to be a little much, like yes he has that decade of experience but it's not like he's playing on amateur level.. idk, he's just never really... more>> failed. It's not too bad though.. And ML seems a bit too strong?? Like I love overwhelmingly powerful MLs but this character.. idk how to say it but the disparity of his character seems too conflicting.

There are side characters, and they're decently interesting. Because there's no real side character that appears throughout the entire novel, my impressions of them aren't THAT deep. Like they're fine, but again not much from complexity.

Plot: 5/5

Even for someone that doesn't really understand music, it's pretty interesting. Definitely leans towards slice of life. He does make a lot of big jumps, but it's fine.

Writing / Translation: 5/5

The musical scene is very well established in the story without using big info dumps. Background of important pieces are concisely introduced so knowledge about music isn't at all necessary to appreciate this story. <<less

I love that the MC plays La Campanella well! It's my favorite classical song! I give it 5 stars even though the repitition of performance is sometimes dull, like what the author did in Rebirth of a Supermodel (fan: lick lick 200x, but the smut scenes are ??) but I appreciate classical music and the ML is just too cute.

This novel is a gem L❤V it

⚠ a little spoiler

The MC and ML's interaction is so cute Even though it's slow romance but you can see that from the beginning the ML seems to be attracted to MC he just doesn't seem to notice though cause of his suspicion in MC being LZW. I'm in chapter 68 so I can't really rate it but still reading every new chapter makes me feel excited thinking what might happen next hahaha that's cause ML's is so cute at making excuses just to... more>> see MC ?.

I really thank the TL by translating this novel great job sharing this gem ?. <<less

This novel have a 70% good point and 30% bad point in my opinion.

The good point is even me who didn't understand too much (because I didn't have a music hobby at all) about classic music, make me want to search the classic music that author write and hear other orchestra in youtube. The story of romance is slow but because this is about 2 romance story of pianist and violinist, therefore it must more about feeling than smut story. The comedy is good too, not very powerful comedy but... more>> happy easy going type comedy.

The plot is stabil and she didn't forget her main plot at all. That makes me very happy especially in this chapter finally our Little Seventh Angel (MC nick name that I combine) can have his little princess. (Itis violin if I am not wrong that still in Swiss bank, the safest bank in the world they say lol)

The bad point is the author sometimes exaggerate the aura of music and sometimes just cut it off and didn't say anything about the music that she says, sometimes the comment just a little. It makes me irky because it makes her didn't serious tell the aura of the music at all. I want her to tell us the reader about that music in long medium paragraph. You know, I didn't tired to read it because this is modern type story and use modern story telling so I can read it fast. So I didn't mind to read more long chapter.

Ah and I think the journey of MC is little bit easy because he can control his emotion in front of elder... that makes me think that it was not very realistic. Even I know the author made the MC has a good temperament characteristics... <<less

This is not the first music novel I've read but I think this will be the standard I will use if I encounter more in the future. Very wonderful and enjoyable read: a good mix of revenge, self-improvement, and romance.

Edit: I just realized that this is from the author of The Earth is Online oh my god, such a prolific and versatile writer. Good! Good!

I'm not sure about this novel. It's not really romance even though it's there, and it's not really about classical music even though it's there. It's hard to describe.

The novel starts off with the MC's death, he's mu*dered by his current lover because he's in someone's way. This point alone confuses me because he clearly isn't in his ex's way at all. The ex has pursued him for 3 years before he agrees and later on in the novel you find out that MC had actually planned to settle the... more>> rest of his life with him. Like, why would you mu*der someone you've been chasing for 3 years and finally got together with in a serious relationship for... well, not for yourself.

There really isn't some big convoluted conspiracy or anything. The MC and ML get together in under 100 chapters and plot related to MC's mu*der in his previous life could have been unravelled sooner. This author really likes to spend chapters just comparing and contrasting this and that, like how MC is such a jewel compared to western people or how rare and special a music is and that he can play it in x minutes compared to so and so. It gets a bit repetitive and honestly I think the whole novel could have been completed in under 100 chapters and be more exciting to read without all the extra filler writing. I understand though, since longer chapters and more chapters means more income on the original site the author published on.

ML is the typical ML you see in most of the author's works. He's quiet, not expressive, a tsundere and supposedly his "poison tongue" makes him cool so the whole music industry is willing to suffer its abuse rather than calling him an a-hole. That's not really how things work out in real life.

I'm at around 115 chapters in and I'm not sure if I can finish it. I really want to know what connection ML had with pre-death MC that made him keep an eye on him. I already know who the real mu*der mastermind is and his reasons so that was a let down already. I don't feel too invested in MC's actual musical progress because it's that part of the novel that is driving me nuts:

Spoiler
 • MC becomes the student to Akkad Reed, who is a professor at the Paris conservatory... Akkad is introduced as someone who has "never taken a student on" in his life and then Reed himself goes and says he does not know how to teach... So how the hell did he get hired at the Paris National Conservatory of Music as a professor!? A professor with a ton of liberties too.
 • The whole Paris Conservatory thing is driving me nuts too. It's a post secondary school. There's no way they'll give you a diploma just by entering and randomly playing a few pieces during assessments and then spending the rest of your time going to Berlin, Dresden and etc around Europe. I know their curriculum is different from normal colleges but I looked up their website, there is still a curriculum and classes that students are expected to attend and pass!
 • The whole "Little Angel" was honestly too cringe for me to read. No adult is going to baby another adult man by calling them cute little nicknames like Engelchen or Little Angel, etc. Let alone a group of adults to someone they're just casually acquainted with.

Some facts about this novel that I am uncomfortable and annoyed with. So here goes my long winded comments. (Some of the terms I used here: "Chinese" with Capital "C" denotes citizen of China. "Chinese" with small capital denotes asian of chinese race and citizens of other countries. "Motherland" denotes China. "Non-citizen chinese" denotes citizen of other countries.)

I really really love reading Chinese novels from China. I regret not learning Mandarin because now if I cannot wait for the English translation, I had to used Google Translate to... more>> read. The author for this novel enthusiastically showcase a patriotic views of her characters even those characters who are citizens of other countries of which the author claimed as belong to China and these characters who was borned, raised, studied & worked overseas all have feeling of loyalty, love and are proud of their motherland China. This author even claims the works by non-citizen chinese as belonging to China and is something they should be proud of. The author further describe her patriotic view in which one non-citizen chinese wanted to return to motherland and becomes a Chinese Citizen and that all non-citizen chinese will be eager to serve their motherland and return back to their roots because China is where they all belong together. Of course there actually some non-citizen chinesewho applied for Chinese citizenship because majority of their business income are in China. (Such as those celebrities.) Nothing wrong there. Migration from one country to another is normal. Either you migrate to have a better life or you fled due to war or natural disasters. This has been happening for thousands years and longer and will continue for years to come. But to claimed even in an alternate reality that ALL chinese will be eager to return to serve the Chinese motherland and intellectual properties of ALL the people of chinese ancestry belong to China is really difficult to accept even if this is just a fiction. It's like claiming ALL people of German / Spanish ancestry and all their intellectual properties belong to Germany / Spain. (This is just an example.)

In my opinion a good novel needs to have a sense of balance between fantasies and realities.

I don't mind patriotic Chinese novels. I read a lot of Chinese novels with patriotic theme. But the authors of those novels actually restricted the patriotism to Chinese citizens and those authors doesn't assume that all non-citizen chinese who belongs to other countries are all eagers to return to serve their ancestors motherland. However, it's NOT the author faults.

Her target audience are readers in China. She probably cannot imagine that readers of other countries will read her novels. Which is why I will continue to read this novel because other than the overly exaggerated nationalistic theme the rest of the plots are actually interesting to read. I usually rate novels I had read as 5 stars (even those silly cliches novels) and if the plots is so bad that I cannot bear reading it then I just dropped it and don't rate at all. I love the premise of this novel since classical music is one of my favorites.

If you like the above like me, go read the novel Cai Cai. It's a short, sweet and super awesome musical BL. <<less

I liked it but I don't like some ideas they put here.

Spoiler

Like the brother-in-law incident. That's morally wrong and I don't encourage people to do it. It only took one book for an idea like that to take root in someone's mind. ಠ_ಠ

[collapse]

The plot is good, kinda bit slow though. But it's good, it's after all it's a slice of life genre.

I like the characters, like those elders that help Qi Mu throughout his journey being an excellent violinist. Also, his group when he's an orchestra. He was always being treated as a mascot. (≧▽≦) Angel.

We won't of course forget Qi Mu's lover~ He is Min Chen! His character is actually cute. Like a tsundere. I love their relationship development. Nice and sweet.

Spoiler

The proposal is so sweet.

[collapse]

Halfway through the novel, I read it in raw because the other half was still not translated but it's raw was quite readable.

Settings, it kinda constantly changed because Qi Mu is really like a rocket in the Music Industry.

Though I have some complaints in some parts of the story. It's kinda spoiler so I'll put the tag.

Spoiler

I cried for Kedori. If I were him I would have already stopped contact with that Visk. They both knew about his feelings but they still decided to continue the engagement? For what? Money? Reputation? Face?

What they should have to is to tell him the news that they're planning to get engaged and get married eventually in the near future. This will make the Kedori and Visk have unnecessary ideas and to avoid suspicion with Visk.

But they didn't. When they discovered his feelings they still continued it. It's like a wound they saw in him but they just ignored it. Letting it fester in him, making him suffer for years. I can't believe they did that to him.

Even Visk! It was said he's a self-control tycoon but wtf is this? Kedori is his brother-in-law for fudge's sake! Even he and Karen are only engaged, they decided to be together and they should have stayed firm on their decision. This is just so f*cking irresponsible. If he love Kedori, he should have annulled the engagement.

And now Min Chen was saying that Visk can abandon everything for Kedori? ? ?

Huh! Is he joking with me? After he's already okay, alive and well, and already reaped the benefits of they're so called engagement?

This is so ridiculous I could read this for 1 year straight and still laugh at it.

This just poke something in me that made my very very angry.

(If you're reading the translated version, Kedori is Christole.)

[collapse]

So, overall 4/5. I wanted to rate it 4/5, but oh well. <<less

3.5/5 stars. It's a decent read for half of the novel but after that... it just went downhill for me.

Some things that ruined it for me:

(1) Repetitiveness

The author kept repeating the same thing about Berlin, Vienna, China, the performance of MC and ML's orchestras, the hot pot that the foreigners are drooling over etc. It was fine at first because the novel was building on the world. But after the nth time of being told this about so and so, it gets such a drag reading it.

Spoiler

For example, once Qi Mu finishes the Paris Conservatory arc, the story follows this pattern: Orchestra Practice (either from Parlesen Theatre or Wei Ai) >Long-distance call between MC and ML>Orchestra World/Europe Tour/Performance>Quick vacation where Qi Mu visits Berlin to see Min Chen>and repeat. This repeats for 3+years in the story spanned across 100+ chapters in the second half of the novel.

[collapse]

(2) Revenge/Betrayal

From reading the description and the prologue, I was expecting more dogblood and struggle from the MC in finding out who ordered his poisoning, as well as how to corner them. But boo boo, 2nd-rate enemies didn't even put up a fight. If you're reading this for the revenge tag and dogblood, I wouldn't recommend it. Of the 300+ chapters, less than 30 chapters focuses on the revenge aspect.

(3) Overpowered MC

And last, the overpowered MC, the genius but hardworking MC. What struggling for the top? The MC is already at the top with his overpowered violin skill along with his pitch perfect hearing.

Aside from that, the novel is fine for the most part (except for the slight nationalism from the author...). Dropped for now, but may re-visit it again once it's been fully translated.

Spoiler

Slightly off topic comment:

Instead of the MC dying and reincarnating, it'd have been better if the MC was disabled instead (like blinded but improved his hearing through countless practice?). MC would have to 're-learn' how to play the violin and actually STRUGGLE his way through the top again. Of course, Min Chen would be supporting him from behind due to his guilt and love for Qi Mu. A tragic story would be Qi Mu never found out it was Min Chen helping him all along.

I've become interested in Classical Music because of this novel. To better understand the characters' emotions, I have to listen to every piece too. And now I'm obsessed--- binging all Paganini's, Vivaldi's and Mozart's works.

Really love the dynamics of MC and ML. It's soft, subtle but not slow. MC also has his own strengths and he prefers to do things his own way. I'm also jealous of their relationship. ≫: (

This is one of the best BL novels ever. Through this novel it made me appreciate classical music more.

Both ML and MC are really cute and such a power couple. The fact that they're sprinkling dog food everywhere and their interaction when they were already lovers really made me wish I have a lover like them.

I'm a sucker for stories about music or the entertainment scene and I like this authors other works so of course I had to give this one a try and I'm glad I did.

the MC has one special ability that he gains with his new body, which is absolute pitch. Other than his experiences in his last life, there's nothing else but ambition and determination to work hard. The MC isn't super OP, he learns and grows as he experience's new things and he even fails now and then.
i like that his relationship with the ML is one of equals and he's not afraid to go off and... more>> do his own thing when he needs to. He misses the ML, but it doesn't stop him from doing what he feels he needs to. I get so tired of naive, s*upid, emasculated MCs in BL who have to be dominated and rescued all the time. Every time I find one where the MC can hold his own it makes me happy. I also like that
Spoiler

he tells the ML who he is/was. Even though the ML was 90% sure already, now he knows for certain.

It's good but it suffers from being long and having a predictable plot. So I stopped at a c200 and called it a day. Keep in mind my rating is based on that. Also for those wanting to read this novel—if you have a short attention span, then you may have the same opinion as me if you read it. Reading this novel, I wish the author can work on making her novel feel dynamic as opposed to stagnant in plot, characters, etc. Although I understand it's supposed to... more>> be relaxing and a slice of life, since the chapters are predictable and repetitive in a sense (MC auditions/ preforms / plays > rise in status/position > sweet time with ML > repeat).

I have read her other works and quite liked them (the supermodel one made me OBSESSED with high fashion). But this work in particular unfortunately highlighted the flaws all her works tend to have: although author has some musical background writing this, her repetitive nature made the technical skills displayed in the novel not as prominent as they should be. Thought I have to mention the musical aspects are written well~just they could be brought out more if the plot was a little more dynamic.

But what I do really like about this story is the relationship between MC and ML. Even though their characters aren't dynamic, they're just lovely to read about. It's a very healthy relationship, and I adore the ML. He's gotta be one of the most respectable MLs I've seen.

But yeah that's all, wasn't really planing to write a long review but here we are. Considering the purpose of this novel, hopefully I'm not too harsh. I think translation was superb and the novel is definitely good—just wanted a tiny bit more. <<less

First of all, I didn't expect this story to be so beautiful... maybe because I love classical music? ╮ (╯▽╰) ╭ Well, I really enjoyed reading this novel. I had fun imagining the characters' lives and the magnificent music accompanying them. (♥ó㉨ò) ノ♡ The development of MC and ML's characters (esp they have LDR relationship for a long time) are very good and it made me wonder what would it be like listening to their music. The supporting characters like MC's teacher, elders from China, elders from Europe, the fans,... more>> the orchestras from: (New York, Berlin, Vienna, China, Paris, etc.) made the novel more colorful. (。・ω・。) The ending is beautiful with their wedding and adopting their little Angel. ヽ (*≧ω≦) ノ --ML now has 2 angels. ლ (́◉◞౪◟◉‵ლ) And the extras....I didn't expect my lovely and gentle Christole to have such heartbreaking love story. 4.5/5 A very good novel worth reading. The story was building up really well.

MC's past self died when he wasn't really successful or being a big shot. So MC had a place to improve and grow instead of show his strength, repeat his past glory over and over. And I like ML's awkward character so much. He was likable.

I would describe this story as a warm river~ ♫♪~(*´▽`*)♫♪

Great translation, highly recommend for classical music lovers everywhere! (If you're not a fan, this story is a great intro and might just get you really into it!)

The author really did research regarding the classical music part. I'm a huge fan of many of the mentioned composers and movements (my 10+ years violinist's approval). Some of her previous novels have had some strong China-nationalism vibes; this one is much better! China isn't the center of the classical music scene here... more>> and many fleshed out characters are not Chinese. Though there are a few cringey moments, they are few and far between.

It's a very relaxing novel, and if you've read the author's other works, this one is very similar, but the MC's backstory is much more exciting. In the author's other novels, the MC transmigrates after dying in a similar world. In this one, the MC transmigrates into a new body after being mu*dered in the same world.

Behind the "slowly showing strength" and "climbing to the top, " we also have a mystery that the MC is trying to solve: why did his ex-boyfriend kill him? Who instigated it? Why?

Not only does the MC confront people in his past life, encounter rivals and face the past of his new body, but he also discovers a new family and makes new connections with people he respects and looks up to.

Spoiler

I love the MC's mature outlook: he doesn't fight pettily for every bit of opportunity/attention, rather because of his age and experience, he does actions like stepping aside or intentionally losing to give others a chance. He doesn't treat his new body for granted and tries to do his best to respect the privilege he was given in getting a second chance.

[collapse]

That said, this story is like a warm river because there really isn't much drama or action. It's very sugary and the relationship development is very steady between the MC and ML.

Spoiler

The ML has his suspicions on who the MC actually is too.(^o^)♪

[collapse]

The MC's progression is also very steady step-by-step, without any hurdles (like the ML, he's a close to perfect existence). So it can get boring/slow at times, especially after the main mystery is solved. But the classical music focus does make up for much of it! <<less
