A back-to-basics(?) monster evolution novel.

A new VRMMORPG, “World of Yggdrasia”, was recruiting beta testers from all over the world. Ten thousand testers began their journey of swords and sorcery in a new realm, one that was as large as Earth.

At the same time, a clandestine experiment was underway. Unbeknownst to the world at large, 100 secret alpha testers were given bodies of monsters and summoned to the same land.

The girl of white was one such tester. Despite the odds against her, she continued to evolve again and again. To rebel against the real world’s invasion, she would become a most terrible beast, the destroyer of worlds… the Bunny Girl!

“…wait, what? Me?”

Our protagonist would survive, unyielding, knowing no despair.

It's got a strong start, but the protagonist's character path is kind of weak and there's very little sense of progression once she's outside the game for real. She just goes around doing exactly the same thing for the same exact reason for I don't even know how long. The way people react to her might have been interesting, only I don't feel that it really gets enough focus. The conclusion to the story is also unsatisfying in that the villain has no personality at all and the way it's... more>> dealt with is fairly dull.

Much of the internal logic really doesn't hold up to scrutiny at all. Seriously? You invent teleportation to another world through immortal avatars and your first idea is to use the place as a video game? And it takes HOW long for even a few of the players to really figure out what's going on? <<less

This is a well thought out story and world about the suffering of a little girl that gets the chance to turn into a demon. Unfortunately the world is too simple, there is only black and white, absolute good and absolute evil. Furthermore the heroine lacks depth and walks around spewing stuff like "I was hurt when I was a child, now I take revenge by killing all humans. I am aware that they are sentient beings".

The world building is fun and makes it worth a read, but the heroine... more>> is seriously disappointing past chapter 30.

UGHHHH! This story isn't a 5, but a 4 simply can't serve its justice! I don't know what to rate this! OKEOFJJJEEIPIoeofifj2lwpf I honestly wasnt expecting much as the starting chapters made me think this would be another average JPN isekai type of novel, but I'm soooo glad I didnt drop it, the book is god dang amazing if u stick through the first tenish chapters. This was not an isekai at all! In this book, 100 orphans are orphans are taken as secret alpha testers for a vrmmorpg lifelike... more>> videogame where the beta test is happening at the same time. The world is a real world, and humans reign supreme making every other race into s*aves or driven to extinction. However, they are leeching and wasting the mana of this world, the lifesource of the planet, and a few years there will be no life at all. The MC will eventually become the only survivor out of the orphans, and in the end game becoming a demon/savior of the world by destroying all the saplings to reincarnate them, making her the enemy of humanity. This book was really amazingly addicting once you got past the first few chaps. However, the book steamrolled down once the climax was reached. After that came the Fairy Lord arc where a demom in myths was summoned, a calamity which will easily destroy the world and is the strongest on the planet. Once she goes back to the planet from her trip to Earth, the rest of the story was honestly filler and low quality writing from likely not knowing how to end the story. This is the reason why it can't be a five, but the 70 other chapters is the reason why I want to make it a five. I should rate this a 4, but also need to rate this a 5 due to how addicting the majority of the story was... In the end I decided to rate this a 5 to not lower the 4.5 rating it currently has. I remember finding this book and deciding to try it out despite the very long title, no cover page, and somewhat uninteresting synopsis, but I am so glad I decided to try out this book even though the translation wasn't finished. Else, I fear that I wouldve also skipped this story when going A-Z or drop it during the starting few chaps due to me getting tired of isekais, and to never pick up this book again. <<less

Great series. I'm generally not a fan of anything with status plates, where things essentially become a story of 'my numbers are higher than yours', but the superb writing and twists of the story itself completely overshadow that peeve of mine.

5/5, would definitely recommend reading to others.

Great job to both the translator/author.

EDIT: Interest tends to taper off in the later chapters, starting to flow into a 'routine' that started to wane my interest, eventually succumbing to the peeve I mentioned above. Still a good read though, but I'm dropping it... more>> a star. Sorry. <<less

A perfect webnovel.

Short, precise, fun and creative. You can finish the story in an afternoon and it doesn't overstay it's welcome. All characters have shallow but well understood traits and motivation. Final battle was a little long and I felt more evolution would of been welcomed, but honestly a great time.

I'd rather read 100 of these kind of novel than 1 of the drawn out, trope filled, dull novels I've been reading for a while.

This and Kumo Desu ga, Nani Ka? were my most anticipated VRMMORPG novels and it did not disappoint. but why 4 instead of 5 stars you ask? Well...

    1. I just got carpet-bombed by the unexpected masterpiece that was Golden Experience so my standards for VRMMORPG novels have gone up considerably and
    2. It just has so many flaws that most people seem to ignore due to how entertaining the story is.
After seeing 100 chapters I thought the story was going to be short or rushed but the former is just straight up false while latter is only true for the beginning, which is surprising

Ima list out the flaws and give my final consensus at the end

    1. The humans are comically evil. There is not 1 'good' human in this entire... more>> novel. At least not that are alive for most of the story anyways. Yes, they're mostly influenced by their environment and indoctrinated from birth but 1. That still doesn't excuse how evil they are or how they became so evil and 2. Some weren't even indoctrinated or influenced as far as we can see.
    2. The plot relies on massive exposition near the start to actually get going. And when I say massive, I mean like, 70%.
    3. The power-scaling and technology just makes utterly 0 sense. Why is the World Tree which is said to be practically invincible so utterly f*cking useless and why is the technology so good in certain facets and not for others
    4. The climax is 20 chapters long, which would be fine in most other long-form novels, but its literally 1/5th of the entire story in this case
Final Consensus:

Plot: 7.5/10

Writing: 8/10

Setting: 7.5/10

Action: 8.5/10

Entertainment value: 10/10

Characters: 6.5/10

Translation: 9/10

Some guy I just saw in the comments said it best:

'This novel has a lot of flaws, plot holes, and things left unexplored, but who cares!

I had a blast reading it' <<less

An outstanding work of its genre (VRMMO & parallel worlds). Above-average in all aspects. Very enjoyable plot and unique MC development. While this might not be comparable to some of the "legendary tier" works, it is still very enjoyable with minimal flaws. The only criticism that I have is that the final fight is needlessly dragged into 10+ chapters and having 70% of it be repetitive. Even tho half of the characters appearing are complete psychopaths, its at least better than other novels with completely unrealistic characters imo. Overall, I'd... more>> give it a 4.2 <<less

Hello, everyone. I'm writing this just after reading the story and viewing several comments. I just can't stand it, so I even registered just to write this. My english is not that good, so bear with it.

--> This is for those who just want quick peek at my opinion without spoilers.

The story is not perfect, but I read it without stopping for 2 days until I finished it. I'm satisfied. It's good read aspecially after some long stories with complicated storyline. Tag game elements not too bad. Evolution +. But... more>> overall a bit dark.

Well, let's begin. (WARNING!!! SPOILERS!!!)
Spoiler

I rated this as 5 stars, because of.... MC. Yeah, because of this unfortunate little girl 11 years old.

Many other aspects of this novel can be condemned, discussed and etc. (there are problems, sure, but depending on the reader some parts may seems insignificant or, on the other hand, become quite large plothole). It entirely depending on the reader, in my opinion.

But.

MC can't be condemned. Because of the several simple facts.

MC is abused, bullied, tortured little girl that never knew positive emotions and no other beeing ever feel affection to this poor child. How twisted she was? Author even mentioned that she has basically no sense of self. Why? Because of her past. Her parents told her that she unwanted child. Plus many other kinds of abuses from them, plus constant bullying from childer in orphanage.

In order to protect herself she just bury her self. If there are no identity than It can't collapse. Well, I exaggarate it a bit, but that's a gist.

She doesn't have education, she doesnt't have proper teachers. She sees and feels only malice, indifference, hatred, fear, terror, violence and etc.

And now I want to ask you the questions.

WHAT you want from this poor soul? You want that she magically started to discern complex human nature? Want her to abruptly believe people and go ho-ho and ha-ha with them? Want her to readily discern society and think about steps to fix it?

Well, that's obvious.

...

And after that she was given a chance after series of events, but to grasp it she need to fight and kill, and kill, and kill.

After that she finally finally found existence that saved her and her fellow experiment subjects. I think you can imagine what it meant for her.

If someone wondered. How she could kill?! Killing is bad! Why she harms innocent? Why she doesn't speak to other peoople doesn't seek advice and many other things.

Isn't she innocent? Why this damned corporation want to kill her? Where are people that she can trust and seek advice?

...

Well, I'm sure, that thera are many people who can retort to every single sentence above.

But.

Second simple fact. When you thinking about it, ask yourself the questions: How old I am? What past I have? How many teachers I have? Was there even existence in my life that wanted to see me dead?

She doesn't have much time, ability and opportunity to carefully think about many things.

Only year passed from beginning to the end of the story after all.

But she tried. She thought. She contemplated. She compared. She felt. Little by little. In her own capacity.

And THAT moved me deeply. Maybe it's not that amazing if you compare it with many other stories and people, but it amazing for her.

Within the frame that author created development and decisions of the MC described amazingly. Somewhere he didn't desctibe reasons for decisions, but it easily can be imagined if you remember 3 simple facts that I described.

Third simple fact. The story is told from the point of view of little, eleven years old, girl.

Well, someting like this.

P.S. I think it's a miracle that she doesn't destroy the world, after she obtained the power. She is tough nut.

I'm surprised that this novel has so many 5 star ratings. It's average at best, and makes for an easy mindless read to pass the time. The tldr is that the story is simple and doesn't delve too deeply into its world building or characters, so its a plain story about a brooding girl and wanton destruction in a fantasy world. Just accept all the random coincidences and deus ex machinas and you'll be fine.

Apotheosis is similar to the author's other work, Lax Demon. The stories start with interesting premises,... more>> but slowly fall into stumbling pacing and inconsistent character writing as they focus more on 'rule of cool' and short lived drama. New events or characters aren't really explored much, and they're only relevant for short periods of time whenever the main character needs to have a mood change. There's SO many token villains that exist to be 'rah, all people are inherently bad' and then die. As a result, the story comes off as shallow.

That being said, the story isn't necessarily bad. As I mentioned, the story is just fine for a short read if that's what you're looking for. The writing is easy to follow along (which I'm sure is partly thanks to the translators' hard work) so you can speed through it easily. I WILL warn readers that the protag has a very

personality by the start of arc 2, which some will find unlikable. The author has a clearly negative view about human nature, so the story is more on the pessimistic side. I would even dare to call the overall tone 'emo'.

--

If you want a novel with a similar story, but more extensive world building and side characters, I'd recommend Kumo Desu Ka.

If you want another novel with a MC who struggles to control a non-human avatar, I'd recommend Curse Nightmare Party. <<less

The beginning is good, then all the setup culminates with a great ending to the second arc. At that time, I thought I'd be giving this series a perfect 5/5. But as the story continued, it went back to being "good" but not great. By the time the final arc starts, I was close to dropping the series. Unfortunately, the final arc was the worst arc. Drawn out, boring, stereotypical, and lastly, the MC keeps acting out of character.

You see, the author spends so much time building up the MC's... more>> personality. Making her a ruthless badass. Then the final arc starts and all of a sudden, she acts completely contrary to what the author has been feeding you. One of my pet peeves is when characters act out of character out of nowhere. It's so contrived and annoying.

I really wanted to give this 3/5 stars but decided with 4/5 just because arc 2 was great. <<less

Easily one of the top 10 novels I've read on this site. The plot itself is interesting, and it definitely does deliver on the "back-to-basics" portion of the story. Ironically, the more unique novels tend to have a old-school plot, which this novel does. The amount of novels with a female protagonist and a action + adventure plot is pretty small. Most of the novels similar end up being at most 50 chapters. It is extremely rare for these types to be complete.

Of course, as with all novels there are... more>> some problems. First of all, the main character has no companions. The characters the main character meets are usually gone within a couple of chapters, which is slightly disappointing.

Ending was pretty good. It was nothing outstanding but definitely fit with the rest of the story.

Overall, this novel is a good read and I highly recommend it. <<less

This novel is... satisfying. It's full of action and makes you feel invincible and evil, but good at the same time. So, I gave it 5 stars because of that aspect and the emotional ride. I binged it, so it may seem better than it actually is. But, I don't want to go back and nitpick everything.

In the end, this is a good story similar to So I'm a Spider So What and I like the MC. Bold and apathetic is my cup of tea.

Its been a long time (a... more>> year I think?) since I read this and I still remember it. That is how much of an impression it left on me. <<less

An honest review. I’m not rating this story based on plot or anything but how much I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it very much because I like action-based female protagonist VRMMORPG novels, and if you like those things too then you will enjoy this story.

It’s also a quick read if you want something relatively fast-paced with minimal plot. Not a lot of actual depth to the story in truth (it’s pretty hasty) but I still enjoyed it very much!
