Liam Sera Banfield is a reincarnator.

He had reincarnated into a fantasy world of magic and swords, but at the time the civilization had already been making advancements into outer space.

The setting takes place in an intergalactic empire, a space opera-like universe where humanoid weapons and spaceships battle.

Liam, who had been reborn into an aristocratic family in a monarchic society, has the ambition to one day become an evil lord.

In his previous life, Liam had unfortunately lost everything and died in despair.

— It’s foolish to live for others.

— I will live for myself.

Keeping those feelings in his heart, he has decided to fulfill his goal, but is instead worshipped as a virtuous ruler due to his difference in values.

Will Liam be able to become an evil lord?

A great novel that I'm loving at the moment with the 'misunderstanding' to an extreme trope not overdone like other novels, the MC is however woefully optimistic and trusting and some parts of the story are just dismissed with the plot amour or that its just a misunderstanding aka coincidence. I like the novel regardless as it is sufficiently different enough from other novels to be refreshing with a unique setting. Worth a look at least.

The main character disappointingly continues to be r*tarded in his interactions to continue causing misunderstanding... more>> which does wear down the jokes severely and plain make it painful at times.

If you are going to treat this as an actual serious novel please skip it but if you want a light novel about crushing foes with plot devices/armour left and right and treat it as some fun this might be for you. <<less

I finished the three fully translated volumes.

It's a decent read and the fact that it's galactic empire setting gives story uniqueness, that makes it fresh even after reading multiple reincarnation stories. Overall though while it's enjoyable read, most of the story is rather forgettable. It's definitely not on the level of not knowing what to do when you run out of chapters.

I like the guide guy a lot and everything surrounding him is simply hilarious and that's what I enjoyed the most in the story.

What I didn't like however was... more>> that MC becomes really OP really quick and it's not only power-wise. At some point I realized that MC will face no troubles at all in this story and all challenge that are thrown at him are being solved with no much effort. Even MC is getting bored while fighting in the story, that's how little challenge there is.

All this despite the guide guy doing his best... aiii. <<less

Contrary to the title, the MC is not actually evil. He has a tragic backstory sure, and that might lead you to think that the story will play towards a ruthless MC route but no it's actually a lighthearted read.

At the beginning of the story, his parents pushed the responsibility of ruling over a galaxy to him (along with a massive debt) while he was just 5 y/o so they can live carefree and retire in the capital. But this tragic beginning is actually just a plot device for him... more>> to work diligently towards rebuilding his planet, although his tragic past made him detest being exploited by others and instead wanted to be the one doing the exploiting. His evil traits are diffused by poorly construed circumstances such as the people being too poor to exploit or that kidnapping girls is pointless because he already has maids who can play the role.

Later on in the story, he beats a space pirate with bounty on his head large enough to clear his debt. Afterwards he inspects the pirate dudes spaceship only to find a group of tortured and mutilated girls in his bas**ent. Now he's presented with a choice.

1. Ignore them.

2. Kill them because the girls begged MC to end their suffering.

or

3. Decide that you're actually a good person and spare no expense in treating the poor girls ; (despite your best interest, despite their pleadings, despite halving no qualms towards the idea of raping a random girl and despite the trauma the MC recieved from having his wife betray him which led to him being afraid and distrustful of women.

It's a slice of life novel where dark themes are just minor plot devices and shouldn't be treated seriously.

tldr: Isekai Death March 2.0 <<less

Something bothered me about this novel from early on and it just hit me: The main character has to be literally ret*rded for him to continue making the misunderstandings he's making over and over again. And since that's the majority of the comedy right there, I can't find it in me to laugh at the jokes, and can't recommend it to anyone because comedy is the point of the series.

By the current point he's lived longer in the new world than his old world, so you'd think he'd be less... more>> affected by his past life, but nope. He still has exactly the same Japanese salaryman mentality he had in the past life. It would be nice if he had any character change at all, but he's still exactly the same as he was at the beginning, just telling himself (and others) that he's evil. Two volumes and 50+ years have passed, man. Grow up a little and notice what world you're living in.

The gold thing especially bugs me. It's not even the most valuable metal in modern day, so why wouldn't he believe people who tell him there are more valuable minerals out there in a sci-fi setting? It stopped being funny when you find out he was told explicitly that mithril is more valuable. It's not a misunderstanding anymore at that point. I don't know what to call it and I've already spent too many words on this.

You won't miss anything by giving this series a pass unless you absolutely love misunderstanding comedy, and even then this isn't the best example. <<less
