It's a great story and I love it. I actually didn't read chapter 1 or so because I first watch it in anime and then manga and later on proceed in reading the novel where the anime stopped. One thing I can say this is in line with my taste so I really² loved it😍😍...

Super shallow writing with minimal plot. There doesn't seem to be a direction for the novel and whatever she does in her day to day life isn't that interesting either. It ends up becoming a chore to read it since nothing really interesting happens. I liked the premise but the story is just so dry. Also the game elements parts don't make much sense either. I do not reccomend reading this.

It is a good story. This novel has nice pacing and can give you a warm and fluffy feeling. Cute girls doing cute things in VRMMORPG game. Game masters trying so hard to balance out unstoppable MC. Very refreshing, and their slice of life gaming style is really enjoyable. I don't give it 5 stars because the story is focusing too much on MC, some side characters don't get enough chance to shine.

But it is really enjoyable and good enough to make you smile while reading.

I can see how this series can be a pretty hit or miss type, and it kind of has been both for me at some points. I got a bit annoyed at the beggining when I realized that there was no stopping and Maple and her friends would only get more and more overpowered in ways that make no sense if you have any sort of experience with MMOs and their balancement, and I first began reading it in a moment when I was searching for MMORPG settings that felt... more>> more realistic and that show the authors experiences and hopes for this genre of game. But after a while, I just threw that out of the window, and accepted for what it is, a more happy-go-lucky story where you just ignore any kind of common sense and wait to see in what new ways those characters are going to break the game's mechanics. It's not groundbreaking or revolutionary in any way, but I've read almost 200 chapters and it has been fun so far.

As of the translation, the machine translation chapters were a bit painful to read, it's not impossible to read, but it is a bit confusing and requires some effort to make sense out of it. Asian's Hobbyist's translations have been pretty consistent and I had no trouble reading them as far as I remember. <<less

I think that this series is a hit/miss type of series. Some will like it for it's funny characters, and others will hate it because they can't understand gibberish and the characters failed their intelligence saving throws. Both of which are totally fair points to like/dislike a series.

Is this a fun series? Yeah, for a couple of chapters. I got up to 53 before I finally called it quits.

If you like isekai, would you like this series? Maybe, idk what's your opinion of SAO?

The translations can't be that bad, can... more>> they? Yes they can, especially when it's 90% machine translation with only 10% devoted to proofreading. It's a true slog up until chapter 63 (which is actually chapter 65).

I don't know much about Asian Hobbyist, but from what I've seen of their other work their translation quality is pretty top notch. So after chapter 63 (65) it gets better. <<less

This is a very hit or miss series for people. The can be fun at times but never at any point could you really apply the term realistic to any thing that happens. Any who plays enough online games knows that every game quirk maple and the group get would be vetoed or removed. There is no actual understanding of the setting. Also, an unnecessary amout of reiteration.

The series is thematically entertaining but supend all of your disbelieve.

edit: This is a shonen series meant for people around 10 -... more>> 15 years old. It fun for it's genre but it probably won't appeal to an older audience. <<less

This work is a good example of a protagonist not only being too lucky "one time too many" but "countless times too many". Basically the author should have stopped at the time when she gotten the 2nd OP skill to quadruple her defense and be fine with common skills (like Poison Resistance). Yet she got an OHK and sure counter (shield just eating enemies, weapons and attacks alike, turning them into magic) and a seemingly OHK AOE, at the very same time. After that...

The cute comedy and fluff is overshadowed... more>> by having the reader over and over again and yet accept how lucky the protagonist is, along with her friend I am afraid. While the protagonist herself is cute and quirky such is shown less than how much doom she brings. I'll try to read further but I think I will just hope that the anime adaption cuts much of the OPness apart from the one mention.

Mind you, I sure am not averse to OPness but the problem here is that there are not one but countless too many sources of OPness while e.g protagonists like Mile (Average Abilities, also other FUNA protagonists), Yuu (Only Sense) or Yuna (Kuma) also have wits instead of just luck (+few and connected sources of OPness, with Yuu actually not being OP which makes up for the more frequent luck). <<less

How to break game mechanics 101.

That's pretty much this game, though most of it comes randomly since the game isn't explained. That's a good thing, but also a bad thing (plot armor MC guffin vs endless exposition). Anyways, I used to complain that characters who go solo should grab some friends and make it interesting, but in this case, the friend only takes away from the game.

All in all, it's just another loli+MC with cuteness overload. If you want cuteness, I guess this is for you, since it does exactly... more>> that. <<less

this is a story where the main character is named maple and her pet is named syrup and people are taking it seriously. This is a comedy/slice of life series and should be judged with that in mind because no one would criticize jjk for being to violent for a slice of life cause it isn't one.

Good stuff as long as you remember what genre you're reading

Bofuri is absurd. In a realistic setting her build will never work, but that's the lynchpin of this series: this is a comedy setting, not realistic

Maple is the epitome of happy-go-lucky goodie-two-shoes, stumbling upon OP combo every volume. Her friends are also good, loyal people so there's no drama to be found here. Instead, what you'll get is hijinks as Maple finds herself in more absurd situations granting her even more absurd skills. The fun is in reading how... more>> she deals with it in nonsensical ways, and the resulting horror as everyone found out what horrific skills she gained from such encounters

Balancing Maple is Sally: the stereotype gamer who knows all sorts of tropes an MMORPG would have. She's also OP in her own way with 100% evasion rate. Sally provides the bulk of combat stories, but it's not as fun as Maple's because her actions are basic.

In order to enjoy Bofuri, you need to throw basic understanding of how MMO works out the window. It helps to think of Bofuri less like a VRMMO and more like a tr*sh fantasy isekai with cheat skills, and switch your brain to braindead. Don't think too much, just accept that the world is s*upid, and you'll have a great day <<less

It's fairly entertaining for the first few volumes, but the joke that makes up the premise gets beaten to death after a few volumes, and then the author proceeds to whack the corpse for 14 volumes (as of writing). This should've ended after a few volumes instead. I started v7 and realized I just wasn't interested in reading anymore. Shame, because I liked what I read prior for the most part, but it's like watching a movie you used to enjoy every night for several years in a row.

Girl that's clueless about games gets forced into playing a VRMMO by her friend, so far so good.

Turns out to be a 101% Mary Sue character, game mechanics are just s*upid enough so that (apparently only) MC can get ridiculously strong by min/maxing VIT.

Don't read if you expect an intelligent MC, realistic MMO environment, engaging plot line, read if you like cute girls becoming OP.

It is a good story that you can read for fun and have a good laugh. All of the main characters have some relatable things from other games that people who play them.

Spoiler

one of the characters you meet might seem to have plot armor but if you have seen or know someone who played or plays dark souls then you know what can happen they learn the timings for attacks.

One is the average person who is loyal and has a hard time to find a place in the group.

One likes puzzles and has a small list of spells.

One is a samurai build that likes to go shopping spree

Two of them have the same build but they are like the MC with a different stat they focus on.

One is a crafter who is just like to make things.

The MC is a massive Mary sue trop but she has a lot of fun interaction with things plus who she gets the admins to change and buff things to try to keep things balance because what she finds and does and how she thinks of crazy combo's that they didn't think about.

A doubtful quality novel for very specific auditorium.

It would be quite correct to specify its genre as online S&M action.

Spoiler

A somewhat brief summary based on the same-named anime.

As properly exhibited in the anime positioning, it became a masochist attraction of the season, with its MC nicknamed as "Shield loli", which is not my trolling or overestimation, but a bitter reality observed over various anime chats and forums (can be verified at least by searching for past posts, messages and comments at such places - in short, it indeed attracted various online masochists). It compliments the increased popularity and online action of various "fan groups" of online characters, with a niche of passive SM for its viewers.

The basic plot is very simple - the "new" character type of mistress, a "shield loli" type, is a passive overpowered performer is attacked by enraged masochists, whose actions make from very little to no sense, except the extreme sense of gang-type masochism, basically only to be unilaterally beaten (given "pain" - look at the title) by the said "shield loli". The said main plot is mixed with the "cute girls" scenes and horrible, meaningless gaming blabber, which looks like an overly toxic total insanity on shrooms, pot, drugs and who knows what else for somewhat older people like me (really, they abandon any visibility of logic, even minimum amount of knowledge is enough to avoid such s*upid actions).

If not the tr*sh quality gaming blabber which is void of any logic, it would be a decent depiction of some rare online SM action. However it is not the case. Basically the anime attracted mostly masochists of the said level, who are already made dumb (mentally broken) by "fan groups" and frequent drugs misuse.

Summary:

Original depiction of online SM action - 8/10.

Proper story line (for non-masochists readers) - 1/10.

Gaming blabber - 1/10.

A funny novel with a MC who get 'cheat' one after another 'accidentally' and her friend with OP Player skill.

I'm removing a star because of the plot holes.

And a second because the story becomes quite 'boring'. I forced myself for the last 20/30 chapter but no more motivation.

Overall, a good novel, but not the best.

This is a great novel MC is too op and her friends is op :) and I know that mc's last opponent is her best friend Sally because she hate to lose and what I hate is she know all Mc's skils and she hide some of her skills. I don't care what happened to mc's friend win or loss because I hate people that can't accept losses, what I think the end of this story is going to "mc's will battle her best friend and will consider to win... more>> or lose because she is her friend" because almost novel or drama you watch and read you will see a friend that jealous of the MC and will do anything to win against MC or to take the spotlight from the MC.

Now I will say you will like it if your into a light read not mature or dark theme novel because this novel is nice to read but will bore you till later chapter and I'm just waiting for the MC solo adventures because she has some cheat luck when she is alone. And I predict the ending is a drama moment that you will not cry at all :-D <<less

Well this novel is great if the MC don't get shadow by the another loli. Many readers don't like a side character or a friend of the MC take over the story, The MC is op and a bit clumsy and fun to see her reaction or just mourned to the monster that she killed but the way her friend take over the story you will see the MC being a side character not an MC. It's ok if you stay on pov of the MC and just time to... more>> time make the friend of the MC take some pov like the crom guy the side character. But that's the dissapointment this novel will be great for anime ? Because there is visual movement. I want the MC take over even if it is good to read if the friend will always do the command and always have more pov than the MC then that's it for me because I don't want to read the MC being shadow. I read too many novels that the MC being shadowed and the friend take to over and boom drop it even if it's great, I don't like a MC but not an actual MC type novels just like "instant death" it's a great novel but MC get shadow because MC is so much op and lazy that the friend take over the story that I drop it. <<less

At first the story is really cute and I really like the MC also the flow of it is good but after the mc's friend arrive it ruin the story at first I thought it was just a passing moment like helping friends etc. Like other novels so I keep reading it but as the story goes it only turn for worse and the thing I really don't like about the author keep pushing two mc's and also the author cripple the original MC like giving excuses like the administrator's... more>> of the game change her skills what so ever. <<less
