Suzuki, an adult programmer, suddenly notices that he’s been thrown into a different world while wearing casual clothes at level 1. He gained high levels and treasures after using the 3 times use-disposable-magic, Meteor Shower, at once. After that, he intends to do different world “sightseeing tours”?

He meets 3 beast girls, beautiful purple and black-haired sisters, and an eccentric blonde-haired elf girl along with various people during his trip. Although there are occasional fighting with demons and demon lords, this is a heartwarming fantasy story at heart.

Before that, sorry for my bad english. I can read but cannot write, mainly with translator tool to typing this.

The first time I read this because manga is interesting enough.
I starting read this up to vol 8 LN version, and then re-read Wn till vol 16 (hands up)

I don't know why I can endure till vol16 even after realizing plot is messing around.

Man, I don't care about lack of explanation on world setting, how excessive is food tasting describing, sub/side character setting, why the reincarnated person all japanese,... more>> highly praise for japanese culture, easily obtained skill that appearing when it needed (This room sure is so hot... <Heat Resistance obtained>), twisted personality deity, etc.

The only one that make this novel is worse is MC personalities, (atleast for me)
Set Poker Face setting for entire time (he didn't let anyone to see what kind of face he make), this skill is so disgusting and I would give another 3 star if not for this!.
Aware that someone or something would likely do troublesome thing but decide to overlook until the problem arise and then make himself clean the mess.
'I don't like violence so I just need to stun him' vibe (despite the opponent is the one who do mass mu*derer, human experimental dsb, he treated that kind of hell-class person like some ordinary Thief) seriously I hate this kind of pacifist.

I don't know what I can type for Good parts in this novel cause the story itself is plain and mess in many parts.
The main point is, Food, Adventuring, Food, Raising Harem member, Food, Involved on mess, repeat. <<less

Made it to the potentially last volume before dropping it. I have no idea why I didn't do it earlier because any average reader could see the cracks way ahead. To make it brief, this whole work is just an excuse for the author to indulge in his fantasies. I'm not against wish fulfillment narrative if it's coherent and not too creepy but while it's somehow disguised and the story has a modicum of flow in the beginning, it breaks apart later on as the author keep pushing his own... more>> persona. The plot gets extremely forced and s*upid toward the later parts. This is not an hyperbole, it's as bad as Game of Thrones' "Dany just kinda forgot about the Iron fleet". Moreover, the s*xual creepiness of the author gets increasingly tough to tolerate to anyone who isn't fan of the whole Japanese loli fetish and improbable harems numbering in the two digits. <<less

There are plenty comments about good points and I agree with them.

But there are few things because of which I dropped it:

1. Cooking - it fells like half of the story is about cooking. In reality it is much less, but amount of emotions, descriptions author puts in food makes you fill like that.

2. Skill points are useless garbage you waste for one time purpose skills. Non-combat of course. - That's what author thinks. He probably have never left beginner town in Any real game. And now MC life depends... more>> on how he uses skill points. Probably even a baby will use priority like passive defense > attack > useful skills like repairing. But looks like he left brains at mother Earth

3. It's adult men. Do you know what does this mean? Looks like author doesn't.

4. As was mentioned before brain was left at Earth. So all plot important decisions a made by somebody else.

All problems are pretty standard but the level of their s*upidity is 2 steps higher <<less

The top rated reviewers have the details covered, so my personal addition to this is:

The story should be renamed to: Plot Armor - An Author's Directive.

Just like J. K. Rowling who made a comment about how she had decided on Ron x Hermione and Harry x Ginny at the beginning of the story and refused to change it despite how obviously it should have gone, this author has decided that 'insert event' is going to happen and so it damn well is going to happen despite how the situation should... more>> have happened if anyone bothered rubbing two brain cells together. Due to this, the story isn't convincing at all.

To finish: Despite the (many) ways the story might be lacking, if you prefer stories without drama then it's still a good read. Stories like this are always going to have some problems so it's going to be up to your personal taste whether you will enjoy it or not.

Definitely give it a try. <<less

I avoided this for the longest time because of the reported loli focus and non-existent romance and excessive OP. However I started reading it recently with lowered expectations for the mentioned aspects, and, it's pretty good. Sure the MC is ridiculously OP but there remains some tension and excitement in the battles. What's best about this novel is you do start to care about the supporting characters around MC and enjoy their antics. Further, the world is richly fleshed out and populated with so many characters that it makes MC's... more>> slice of life travels around the world quite interesting and enjoyable.

By the way, MC is not really aimless as some say. Like any good slice of life story, there's a combination of minor short term goals and long term ones. They're not really firmly declared and repeated throughout the story, they're more like a to-do list. Also, there's always an some unknown enemy looming in the background to give MC something to fight against.

It's a good read when you start to enjoy what it offers instead of what it doesn't have. <<less

Rating: 3.5 stars, Translation: 3.5/5

[[5 star = almost all readers may enjoy. 4 star = large majority of readers may enjoy. 3 star = 50/50 of readers may enjoy. 2 star = a niche audience may enjoy. 1 star = maybe portion of niche audience may enjoy.]]

[[5/5 = Infrequent minor errors. 4/5 = Frequent minor errors or infrequent major errors, no difficulty to read. 3/5 = Frequent major errors, some difficulty to read. 2/5 = Difficult to read. 1/5 = Unreadable.]]

Video game programmer goes to sleep and finds himself in... more>> an RPG-like magic/fantasy world. He is super OP from the start, but is a bit disoriented with no information. He continues to become more OP, collects a false harem, increases his social standing and resources, and saves people, while he casually tours the world and fights demons/monsters/labyrinths.

Contains: OP MC, progression of OPness, laid back and hiding-his-abilities MC, goody-tw0-shoes MC, summoning to another world, fantasy/magic/medieval world, RPG combat/level/skill system, demi-humans, monsters, demons, gods, small and medium scale fighting, misunderstandings, lolis, false harem (no real romance), some international conspiracies, some technology gap/adaptation, some resource/business/status building.

Some things I liked, without giving spoilers, were the author's imagination of what an OP MC could do, or taking the story in new directions. He also gradually builds up the setting's lore. Story doesn't have too many super-slow chapters (i.e. Slice of life), or repetitive/irrelevant details (compared to other similar stories). It's light-hearted. Got all the necessary tropes for summoned/reincarnation genre.

Long list of issues that might be pet peeves to some readers: MC is too OP; he doesn't really face any serious challenges. He also makes a big deal of hiding his abilities, which is reasonable, but sometimes unnecessary. The harem is a false one. Many girls pine for or flirt with MC, but he doesn't really care for romance. Vary far into the series (V10?), with no hint or explanation, one of them turns out to be his love interest. But even then, there's not much romance. MC is a goody-two-shoes. He almost always saves everyone in danger, even though he sometimes says he's not going to get involved. He never kills people or hurts them too much. The storytelling hasn't much tension/drama. A conflict or problem is presented, then the MC simply solves it with his OP powers. There isn't a structured arc, just solving one problem after another. There seems to be a mystery about why the MC got summoned, but the author barely touches it. Lots and lots of side characters appear for a chapter then are never mentioned again. Yes, there are food/cooking chapters.

Overall, not a bad story for this genre. There were enough entertaining ideas and events to outweigh what I didn't like. There are lots of little issues that individually didn't bother me too much, but might be deal-breakers for some readers.

Other thoughts: Translation was OK. There are lots of little errors everywhere, and an occasional confusing sentence. There is a light novel version. I didn't read it, but I heard it has better writing. Most events/outcomes are similar between the 2 versions, but there are a lot of differences in the details. However, the LN is way behind the WN. There is an anime version coming out in late 2017 or early 2018. I think there is a manga version as well. <<less

This novel is not for you who hate OP-MC with lots of harem and pushover.

Yeah, the MC is OP from start but still have weakness until a few volume where his magic is limited, but the MC now is past above god and can goes back to his previous world.

But, the slice of life and cuteness overload is keeping the novel going.

... more>> The story basically a repetitive of saving random lolis, breaking the common sense of the people, then upgrading equipment, searching food material, making food. Just that.

If you hate that kind of story, do not read this. Most battle only last 2 chapter most. <<less

A standard wish fulfillment WN with OP MC. It's a good read as something to kill time, waiting for the next chapter of another novel, or simply in between games. The plot is negligible and there isn't much happening behind the scenes.
In the beginning the characters were fleshed out, new, with personality. As the story goes on the characters start losing their luster as they stay constant with some clearly losing speaking time. What the author does well, however, is his ability to create side characters and keep them... more>> relevant. Surprisingly I think I like the world the author built more than the characters or plot. <<less

Someone really has problems with this novel but for me this story is pretty good with story and even it is good at fighting parts but it has good points about MC's life. With somepne who want the story with a lots of action and the MC always shows his op this is not for you (even the main is op in chap 1 but he is just new to that power. What do you expect in those first chapters?)

Hmm... some people seemay to want a serious story with a truly OP protagonist... Well this is not for that kind of people, if I am to describe it... it is about how MC travels around cooking and saving cities from the casual demon lord just cause they could harm his friends if he leaves them alone, and also how he breaks every fragment of common sense in all the characters he meets, he is basically the worst enemy of common sense if I am to say it.

Despite that and... more>> the fact that it's absurdly lighthearted and slow paced, when the harem... err friends fight against mobs the battles are kinda nice.

So this is a novel for people who likes lighthearted stuff with some parts that are actually pretty serious... <<less

Volume <7 4/5
Volume 7+ =3.5

I'm not gonna sugar coat this review DM is either loved or hated, however at this point im indifferent. There are valid reason to both arguments. Essentially, Satou, the MC, is laid back, arguably the most OP character out of all the OP characters out there, good at everything and has a harem.

The reason for the drop in rating has nothing to do in a drop of quality its just that nothing has changed for better or worse the author did not try do... more>> change up the dynamic with the exception of characters getting stronger there has been no change in the dynamic of mc/ support characters/ and enemies. the "story" gets stale after reading the first 6 or so volumes. When I say "story" I use that term loosely almost 15 volumes in and is really no allusions to who the enemy is or where the plot is going. Though the actions scenes are very descriptive in the beginning and showed the MC "vaguely struggling" Im at the point where I skim some of the sequences because more often then not he's fighting c*cky Bandit A or some comparable irrelevant enemy that he inevitably uses the same attack on (magic stun).

I can go on and on but there is just so much to read that its impossible to give a comprehensible review of whats good or bad. but at the end of the day there are times when im excited to see a work get updated on this sight but when I see death march im like... eh maybe later <<less

Everyone who has rated this as a 1 star and then complained about then the MCs morals and the side characters is an idiot. Obviously this is not the type of novel did they were expecting it to be from the first couple of of volume. I think the progression is perfect I think that the side stories are adorable I think that Pochi and Tama are two of the most adorable Side characters ever created in any story ever. And I think that way that the MC keeps everyone... more>> together and strengthens his team as a unit it is very well done very well-thought-out. Everyone who is complaining about this book is obvious obviously looking for a different story and hoping that this book will conform to what they wanted to be. But this book has its own story to tell. It's well-written for a slice of life / action / fantasy. And for all the haters who want this book to be tailored to their own desire they should just go to search novel updates and use the search function. Because Death March is a very well written well thought-out and fantastic novel. <<less

My favorite story on syosetsu and I've read many.

it's funny, it's cute, it's laid back and no bullsh*t drama. OP comes, breaks all common sense and has some fun doing it. it's as much a slice of life story as it is about action and plot. There's a lot of foreshadowing and stuff going on behind the scenes you can try and keep track of if that's your thing (probably requiring a re-read once in a while) but even without that it's a very relaxing enjoyable story.

If you want a story filled with dastardly villains with evil plots to destroy the world, you will find it in this novel. Just don't really expect any of these normally life threatening issues to be a real focus in this story. The story asks 'what would life be like if a character is transported to another world on easy mode?' and follows that premise unerringly. This story is more like a diary of a guy going sightseeing while collecting all the talents and lolis in existence.

Now, normally unearned OP... more>> characters annoy me, but Satou in particular doesn't grate me. That's primarily because most of the absurd actions the protagonist does get used as comedy rather than propping him up as some awesome hero of the universe. Reading this series is like watching shows such as Cribs where rich people don't realize how absurd their lives are, because their common-sense was dead from birth. If you laugh at lines like 'what, don't all people worry about stains on their mink carpets?' then this story is right for you.

For a fantasy world, the actual setting feels legitimate. Even though you have RPG elements like skills and levels, there is a concerted effort by the writer to keep the story grounded in the socioeconomic problems of the nobles and commoners alike. Every area Satou visits tends to have their own industries and culture, with a large emphasis on each area's unique cuisine (this novel has more words dedicated to cooking that nearly any other subject). Even though Satou is the center of the story, it does not feel like the world exists for him (even though it would probably be pretty turbulent without him).

The only real fault I have with the story is it's use of characters. There are MANY in this story, as each area (or chapter) he visits will have at least two major characters you need to remember and a dozen minor characters who always fall for Satou. As there are currently 15 chapters (ie volumes) in the story, one can imagine it's a lot to remember. Even though a world realistically have a lot of people in it, the end result makes it difficult to have many strong character arcs, leaving the vast majority of them flat. This even extends to Satou's main party, who have mostly been static characters after getting acquainted with Satou. I'd like to get more screentime for the main cast, or at least a full chapter with their antics.
Spoiler

As of chapter 14, this dearth in main character time has mostly been due to Satou's obsession of getting a Chant Orb. I hope the rest of chapter 14 focuses on Liza's meat and Lulu's cooking!

[collapse]

Now, there is harem-like behavior in this novel. However, the MC goes out of his way to ever take advantage of it. He treats his main party of seven girls more like daughters than concubines (much to some of their dismay) and often says to those that like him that he's interested in someone else. He has a bad case of denial when it comes to how many feel about him, but he's at least courteous. In summary, this is a straight story about an overpowered Marty Stu who slowly becomes even more ridiculously powerful as time goes on. However, the world feels real and vibrant, and the MC, while generic, is quite entertaining in a dense-rich type of way. If you want a story (slightly similar to One Piece) filled with food reviews and lolis, this may be up your alley. <<less

It is a fun story about an op adventure of satou along with his quasi-harem. The way he does things and the ways the story progresses is interesting. His multiple identities are also nicely managed, good character development and the MC has a proper personality and has many volumes translated.

Will recommend to anyone interested in comedy/adventure/harem genres

extremely op protagonist. Story is quit good and it has good action. 1st volume is worst (in my opinion) but it becomes better and better. Story has good action and is quit funny. Protagonist is calm and mature. Also he is not virg*n forever dense type of guy, he drinks when he wants, goes to brothels if he wants (like many normal people in real life) and is not into lolis (though most of his companions are lolis). Anyways it’s quit fun to read.

Reviewed as of v12 chapter 11

As many have written before me, Death March is a "fantasy other-world slice of life" novel. The main protagonist is absurdly overpowered from the get-go and won't hesitate to make use of his powers, albeit subtly as not to arouse unnecessary commotion around and about himself. Surrounded by a harem of little girls in spite of being an onee-san type of guy himself, he travels the world experiencing various adventures and developments along the way.

For me personally, Death March has several main selling points. The... more>> first one would be the male lead, who is intelligent, composed, reasonable and capable. Unlike the vast majority of male leads from other light novels, he is neither mentally inept, nor childish or naive. He is well aware of his own powers and is neither scared of using them nor is he needlessly drunk on possibly being the most powerful being walking the realm. Such a level-headed and likeable male lead is very rare and could alone be considered a good reason to give this novel a shot.

The second reason is the writing (translation + editing included) which is extremely well done. Sousetsuka is doing an amazing job with the translation and editing and the novel is really easy to read and get into thanks to that. As far as the writing itself is concerned, the biggest advantage would be how on point it usually is. The biggest sin many LN and WN commit in terms of writing is how pointlessly descriptive they can get. This doesn't really happen in Death March, or at least not once the world has been established and any reason to go on about mechanics and environment is gone. Fighting scenes are concise and of reasonable length as well.

The third reason would be the cast. Pochi and Tama and Meat-sensei are justice nanodesu! Characters in this novel are diverse and interesting without appearing to be fundamentally broken on some level. Each character has it's own distinct personality and is both likeable, memorable and above all else entertaining. While I can't really say there's any character development or emotional depth to the cast of this novel, that can hardly be considered a fault since this novel is supposed to be a light-hearted funny story rather than a drama.

I gave Death March 5/5 stars for the reasons listed above. It's funny, it's entertaining and I can relax reading this piece of work like I can relax reading no other. <<less
