I don't know how I feel about this one. The way the story is written feels very confusing. Sometimes I cannot tell who is doing what, or who is grabbing whom. But maybe it's because I'm tired.

The main thing that's kinda making me pause is the potential pairing?

Spoiler

The story starts with the protagonist, Han Mingxi, being killed by somebody with the same face as him. Which Han Mingxi later finds out was done so that man can take his place.

However Han Mingxi doesn't die—instead he wakes up in the body of his best friend's ex boyfriend, who has been in a coma for two years.

After waking up, Han Mingxi finds out that the world doesn't know his original body is dead. Instead, the imposter has taken over his life and has been parading around as him for the past two years.

(Han Mingxi even acknowledges at some point that this was premeditated and probably the reason he was mu*dered)

Now, normally a person would be freaked out, angry, or even confused that something like this happened, but Han Mingxi is calm about it all. Which, it's fine to be calm about it, but he doesn't seem to have a reaction at all? He's not angry that someone has purposely replaced him, nor does he seem to actively be plotting revenge or the downfall of this person to the extent of someone who has just had their life ripped away from them. Not to mention, he was mu*dered and replaced, yet nobody notices the difference? It must feel painful, but he has absolutely no reaction. He's not just calm, he has no feelings toward it at all.

Instead, and this is just my opinion, it seems like the imposter—the person who ruthlessly mu*dered and replaced the Mc—is being set up as a romantic love interest...? Which, if so, is just... infuriating.

However, it's still very earlier in the story and I could be totally wrong, that's just what it feels like to me.

Another thing that seemed odd to me was the way Han Mingxi seemed to have no attachment to his own identity. He barely reacted when he found out someone had replaced him. From the start he easily gave up his own name and referred to himself as (forgot the name of his new body).

He even calls the imposter as 'Han Mingxi' in his head, which I found extremely weird.

Surely if someone killed and replaced you, you wouldn't call them by your own name? You clearly know they are fake, why wouldn't you refer to yourself by your name and call them something else? I think there was a part in the story where Han Mingxi said that he strangely didn't feel like Han Mingxi, or felt comfortable as the ex's identity or something, I can't remember. But even if you felt comfortable and content with your new identity, you wouldn't casually start calling the imposter as you?? It makes no sense.

Also, idk how to explain it but the way the MC acts, it's like the imposter Han Mingxi is portrayed as his own person and not a nameless imposter? Which makes me feel like it's hinting at future romance.

There's even some suggestive scenes with his imposter and never once does the strangeness of it happening with someone who looks exactly like him (and once mu*dered him) occur to him. At this point, there was no point in having him mu*dered and replaced. It would be much better if he transmigrated into the body or somethin from another world, bc the whole fact that imposter Han mu*dered him and replaced him (and is now coming onto him) is just too weird.

I just feel like he should be more unsettled, angry, or any emotion really. I know his best friend described him as being unemotional, but even if you are unemotional, you would still feel anger, resentment, hate, at being mu*dered and/or replaced.

Edit: I forgot to mention the best friend is clearly being set up as the ML, but it feels like the fake Han is being set up as a another partner or the second male lead. Which, yeah.

[collapse]

But anyway, it's too earlier to tell anything for sure. Curious to see new chapters. <<less

I agree with fuffoals. 10000000% correct. MC is not realistic, or at least we can't empathize or understand him very well. He doesn't care, so why should we as the readers?

Spoiler

Honestly, you would think if you were brutally mu*dered that you would feel apprehensive, scared or even angry and angsty, right?

Especially if you were trapped in the body of the only person - who could've seen the mu*der happen.

And then the super "straight, but acts like an asexual" MC turns bent because it's the body in which he inhabits preference. Maybe he was actually gay the entire time but never got the s*xual connection because his previous body was messed up and didn't send any signals to his slong? Maybe.

Or maybe it's his new body's fault. It's his new body's fault that he gets a hard on, but then why is he attracted to males then? The body gives the reaction but can't exactly affect the mind right? He never gets the new body's memories, so why?

I'M CONFUSED.

MC is unlikable and unrelatable.

Each character has no depth. The world building needs some polishing.

Yeah, they are rich. Yeah, they come from a prestigious family. Yeah, they are smart, entitled kids. Yeah. Yeah. Oh and MC is the next heir of a country. Ha. Ha. Ha.

So far, so good.

I was a bit dubious of the title but the actual story so far is not shallowly focused on romance but has a good sense of mystery to it and already a solid developing plot.

It's worth picking up.

----

Edit (Ch13) : Still worth reading.

Indeed. Read for the mystery and not so much the romance. The set-up is intriguing and I find myself wanting to know more.

Who the characters are and the way they act seem to add to the mystery. Read on.

(c60) LONG REVIEW, may contain spoiler

the plot is interesting, the characters are really cool, but often... the narration is kinda weird, especially choppy at view changing, like something is missing but actually not and it's so abrupt. this style of view changing is sometimes good but author failed most times. BUT MAYBE ITS TRANSLATOR FAULT? also looks like everybody suddenly sensitive to other people soul.

if Lie, MC's best friend and has feeling for MC, knowing MC soul easily, that's possible. but Frise, eventhough she stalked MC for a long time, it's just a report, then how can she knows? Moreover she didn't know much about Li Qinghua, and LQH is 'amnesia'. but she is acting like she know the inside of LQH isn't LQH from 1st meeting -_-;

[collapse]

sometimes I'm also confused at how fast MC changing his feeling attracted to each ML while he is so cold at first. maybe LQH soul affected him? but the relationship dynamic is so GREAT. Lie and Keqi (fake Han Mingxu) gives out a different taste but sometimes it's the same. MC with Lie exuded kinda possessive selfish love but also pure when its telling how Lie love him from teen age. while with Keqi it's sexy dangerous and aggressive but also fragile and pure like innocent first love. it makes me really hope they can become 3P because they balance each other so well ?? oh and MC personality is very overbearing. he don't want to be dominated by anyone~
Spoiler

ALSO BACK TO LQH FEELINGS/soul. it's always mentioned, I'm afraid it's affected MC feeling so he is actually really doesn't have feeling to Lie? and that badump badump with Keqi, it's mixed with fear of death, also Keqi is the one who killed him as HMX... that's where it'll get ironic?

[collapse]

there's so many other things that amazed me: like how MC checking his I love his body changing with science, or an advanced tech that can transform brain wave about memory into image that can be shown to other people, or the poison! and the kingdom...

one weird questions: if MC attracted to Keqi, the fake him, does it mean he is narcissist? ? <<less

From what I understood of this story, I think it’s very good and has potential. But honestly speaking, the poor translation is ruining it. I rated it 5 stars because I liked the story, and I don’t think I’m the only one. I’m grateful that flying lines is translating this, but I hope that someone else will pick this up. I don’t want to see a story with a good potential to waste away like this.

Extremely confusing plotline and messy writing, plus the translation is only so-so tbh. It isn't well structured and is hard to understand what is going on. Maybe the story had potential but it is just too messy and hard to follow.

This was one of the most confusing novel I've read. There were too many typos and I dunno if the raws itself are confusing or the translation is. Considering that this translation is from Flying Lines (and most of their novels have locked chapters, meaning you have to pay for them), I kinda expect a more concise and understandable translation. There was not even TL's note at the end, so I feel like reading this and an MTL won't make much of a difference... I very much enjoy the plot... more>> since it was unique but reading it really gets on my nerves. I usually don't give a review until I finish reading something but this one really. It IRKS me <<less

Agree with previous reviews, the narration is very confusing, and the changes of view points don’t help the narrative. Also annoying is the politics in the story that were definitely unnecessary. If you have a negative view of feminism that is fine - it’s the author’s opinion, but this was so undeveloped and just annoyed me a a reader - why is this view here, what for? This ‘world of patriarchy’ was a very undeveloped view and for me made me give sympathetics points to the villain... and removed all... more>> charisma from the bl story. <<less

I just finished the story and is a complete mess, I wouldn't recomand it as there is no closure for the multiple plots, only positive thing:

the ML and MC are together in the last part of the story but ended with an inexplicable cliffhanger... If you can call it that...

[collapse]

At the end the author note gives the impression that got bored to write and just gave a few perfunctory words. I totally blame the author for the failure, all in all it wouldn't be so bad if he would have worked a bit more to close the plot holes.

I gave it 2 stars since I had a few chapters that I liked and also the relationship between MC and ML was nice enough most of the time <<less

It was interesting on the first half, but then things get dragged on. I personally think it should end when the first problem solved.

Spoiler

It would be good to end when the relationship between MC, keqi and Lie cleared with no more misunderstanding.

[collapse]

If the author felt too lazy too write, they shouldn't drag the story with more additional characters and problems. It was actually more confusing than satisfying.
