Lu Shang picked up a dirty teenager while discussing work at a bar. It was merely happenstance, but memories from ten years ago resurfaced when he saw the gunshot scars on the teenager’s back.

Lu Shang asked him, “What is your name?”

“Xiao Li… My surname is Li, so they all called me Xiao Li.”

“You don’t have a name?”

“I don’t remember.”

Lu Shang said, “Then I will call you Li Sui. From now on, you will be with me.”

From that day onward, a young “lover” was always by Lu Shang’s side.

Years later, Dr. Leung teased Lu Shang, “You didn’t get his heart, instead your heart caved in; boss Lu, that doesn’t seem like a bargain.”

Slight spoilers ahead:

Umm, people are actually calling this novel 'cute', 'wholesome', and 'fluffy' must have holes in their brains. This story is faaaaaar from anything cute.

1. So in one chapter this happens:

First let's talk about MC's condition. He has a heart disease. Even walking a bit further is too strenuous for him. Strolls for normal people is probably like marathon for him. So you can understand how fragile his body is. And one day he goes somewhere and comes back home with high fever. He can't even go upstairs to... more>> his room and simply collapses on the sofa of the living room. ML sees MC sleeping on the sofa and I forgot what was going on his mind, but he suddenly can't 'control himself'. And mind you, they are also not in a relationship yet, and even if they were, what ML is going to do isn't something that is moral anyways. So ML throws himself on MC. Starts kissing and touching MC all over the body without MC's consent. MC is probably unconscious right now. And then he was just about to enter (yeap enter an unconscious man) MC and suddenly looks at MC for whatever reason (I forgot) and it is at this time he realizes that the other party is burning with fever. How cute!

Man, the whole time you were violating MC, you didn't notice he was burning with fever? What the hell? One can tell just by looking if someone is sick. Anyways, how the f*ck is their relationship exactly wholesome? Just because he didn't do the final deed, is it okay to forget this episode? That's f*cking attempted r*pe for god sake.

2. Oh there is also power of s*x shown in the book. The doctor clearly states that MC should not indulge in any strenuous activity and that includes s*x of course. But MC and ML do it anyways and also very frequently. And wallah! MC's health condition improves. Power of Sex! Now you know how to cure a heart disease!

3. And the whole reason why MC 'adopted' ML is also not 'fluffy' at all and is very dark. Oh wait, ML wasn't adopted. He was bought. Yes he was bought! Man, so wholesome!

4. Anyways, even further down the story, their relationship isn't actually good. I know there are fluffy and cute moments, I won't deny that. But the whole scenario of
Spoiler

buying a guy who has a heart that can be transplanted into yours for you to live further isn't exactly romantic. Has the definition of romance somehow changed these days?

[collapse]

It's not that the book doesn't have any good elements but I just can't come to like this book. This book just irks me and makes me feel irritated. It has a lot of drama, and can totally be a Korean drama because of all the angst and other sh*t going on. Anyways, I personally just don't like this story. <<less

Very impressed by the amount of research the author did for realistic seeming medical procedures and corporate procedures. (゜ロ゜)
`
That said, this is a fantastic book. ♥ (ˆ⌣ˆԅ)

Main characters are both strong and caring to each other. Despite the story starting as one person essentially adopting/raising the other, the relationship ends up incredibly balanced and mature. The reader really gets to experience the growth of the younger ML into a truly outstanding young man, both emotionally and intellectually.

There are a lot of beautiful details... more>> in the story that show how each main character changes and develops over time.
Spoiler

The older man becomes less guarded over time and turns from workaholic into someone who realizes that life can offer other things. The younger man turns from naive codependent child to a masterful young man who helps shoulder his partner's burdens.

[collapse]

Lots of great side characters and well-thought out plotlines (corporate negotiations, takeovers, training camp, etc.), tight writing, good pacing, balanced fluff and angst moments, and last but not least, a very satisfactory ending.

Highly recommend! <<less

This is so good! There's a bittersweet feeling throughout the novel, but the ending is a happy one!

The top (Li Sui) : is younger than the bottom (Lu Shang) and was saved by Lu Shang. After saving Li Sui, Lu Shang decided to raise him almost like a child.

The bottom (Lu Shang) : a wealthy, but sickly CEO. Lu Shang is the model gentleman we all need; he's considerate, understanding, and kind, the perfect hubby material!

... more>> Overall:

The novel has a lil slice of life vibe and all misunderstandings are resolved relatively quickly. The romantic development doesn't drag out and there's a happy ending. I highly recommend this novel for a relaxing read! <<less

In reading this, I finished off one plastic of tissue, and my eyes were swollen...

I dont know the criteria of a good novel, all I know when I'm immersed in the novel world and can feel the hurt, the anger, the heartbroken of characters that's when I know this novel is good.

I'm glad to be able to read this novel.

This is a solid 3.5 rating for me.

The beginning of the novel is slow. Honestly, it’s bland. There are a couple of time skips which are very abrupt. Dealing with the antagonist was prolonged unnecessarily. All the drama in the end about the operation and the company was so contrived.

There is angst in the story. But once the couple get together officially, there’s a lot of fluff. The side character development is seriously lacking. They just pop in and out as required.

Overall, it’s a decent story. There’s a lot of... more>> sweet interaction towards the end. This story tried to give the readers some plot unlike many BL novels where everything is unicorns and rainbows. However, though the plot was good, the execution was lacking.

The translation is good. No complaints. <<less

Wow! I wasn't expecting such a well written and emotional story as I went into this.

The characters are well fleshed out, and you can see the struggles that every one goes through as their character grows and changes.

The novel has a good mix of romance, angst, corporate intrigue, fluff and character growth.

... more>> The love story is beautiful and warm, and both the MC and ML stand equally in the relationship, with a healthy give and take on both parts.

The chapters are quite long and the translators have done a fabulous job with it.

Definitely worth a read for BL lovers! <<less

Dropped this somewhere in the middle. Skimmed a lot too so won't give a rating since I didn't read so many actual chapters.

Slice of life story that started intriguing (sickly rich MC buys broken teen ML and makes him his ward, they slowly fall in love). I like younger gongs and morally ambiguous romance (not grooming but the CP's relationship pre-romance makes the love story complex and slightly questionable). However, I also like nuanced, well-developed characters and plot logic, and I felt the novel fell short in these categories. But... more>> partly I also got bored because the plot moved so slowly.

My biggest criticism and the reason why I think this romance isn't as wholesome as other reviewers make it out to be (and no, it's not the dubcon by the ML - please, that scene was super mild - the ML felt really bad and it was revealed the MC didn't mind it since he was in love with the ML at that point) - the MC's motive for taking care of the ML is insanely sinister and evil - I've read quite a few danmei with scum characters, but the MC really takes the cake:

Spoiler

The MC wants to take the ML's heart to cure his own heart disease - effective killing the young boy. The ML has nowhere to go and is handed a contract to sign that he admits he can't read, so he has no idea what he's signing. And even if he did, mu*dering a poor young man just because a rich guy wants is extremely immoral - I have no idea what the laws for organ donation is in China, but I seriously doubt this could be done legally even with the contract.

[collapse]

Now, despite the MC's scum behavior, I think the story could have worked if the author showed how the MC genuinely felt remorse for his scheme after he gradually grew close to and fell in love with the ML. But instead the author just kind of sweeps it under the rug so the reader is supposed to forget how the MC is pretty much a criminal, and when the ML finds out about the MC's plan his reaction is just "well I love you so I don't mind", which is not a reaction a sane person would have. But by then the CP are in love so it's all butterflies and rainbows I guess.

Weird story, don't read if you like consistency and logic. <<less

I really just wanted to know how the f they got a HE that was why I finished this. The story was dragged too much. Like the company matters. There some event that were seriously out of nowhere. Like that effin training camp. And that effin life-threaning event in that effin traing camp. Seriously, with all the descriptions at that situation I just felt it was a miracle Li Sui was alive. And that effin backstory. Hah. It felt like such a stretch. And Lu Shang was very frustrating like... more>> drinking alcohol for Li Sui's sake when the poor boy just wanted him to stay still and be fcking okay. Please. I was honestly moved by the unrequited love at the start but when that training camp's last event happened I just felt like all my emotions were wasted. They were running in circles and brought me too and boy do I hate running.

I think Lu Shang's father story held my interest more.

I wish I hadn't read ch. 60. What's going on his brain to encourage his husband to go on a blind date even if the blind date was him? It was made to be romantic that he refused but it felt s*upid and ruined the whole thing for me.

This is just really frustrating. I read this because of the reviews but I did not imagine I will leave one because of this unsatisfied feeling. It dragged. And I thought it wouldn't because there's only how many chapters. The author worked hard on their research though. Real cool. <<less

This is a story about a dying man and that means there's TONS of angst. I can't believe how well the author managed to convey that. There's some shady stuff about how both characters come to meet. That part is wierd and my biggest ethical complaint. Otherwise, this is a rare gem of a story. Translation could be better in others' hands but it's in poor taste to complain about free goods:)

I still have a huge grin on my face and my eyes are still moist with happy tears - what a wonderful journey! This novel is a another BL favourite: deep, nuanced, well-researched, moving, sweet, and spicy. There is very satisfying character growth, the conflicts also make sense, and their relationship is just so beautiful - their love just so moving.

A mostly heart-warming read with very satisfying romance (we get the full development) and some angst (but it makes sense, no frustrating misunderstandings). Heartily recommended! The translator did a great... more>> job. <<less

First of all: OMG THIS DANMEI IS SO WHOLESOME.

I cry, I laugh, I smile, I have my heartbroken and mended throughout my journey reading this.

Second of all, I know how difficult it is to create a story with medical background. It takes a lot of research. However the author pulls it out nicely.

... more>> She writes medical and bussiness terms in not-a-boring way. It really is a great job.

Third: The mystery, the suspense, the reveal.

Author gives us layers of mystery since chapter one. Then, slowly, one by one, when the story progress, she unveils the story beautifully.

All conflicts have proper ends and closure.

The flow between one conflict to another is so smooth, a red thread that tied the whole plot is well written.

There’s nothing left unsaid. It’s so perfectly wrapped, leaving me with a feeling of wholesomeness through and through. <<less

If I hadn't known that this was a HE novel I might not have read it, cause there was a looming sense of tragedy throughout the novel. I honestly felt stressed reading through some of the chapters.

There's a lot of development on behalf of the two MCs in this story, and although both of them are "cool presidents, " they each have differing approaches and distinct personalities. Sprinkle in a bit of misunderstanding (not bad) as well as treachery, and you have a pretty good amount of angst.

I appreciate the... more>> efforts the author went through to research cardiac diseases, although I wouldn't say the medical events were terribly realistic.

Spoiler

I mean, the guy was walking around a few days after major surgery. My dude, you need to stay home for a few months at least... And every time he got on a plane while his condition was poor it was like nooooo NOOOOO.

Also, when the younger MC was lost in the mountains for 5 days and survived off of eating bugs and frogs but was okay after some rest and good food? Please, you'd be hospitalized. Lucky if your kidneys didn't fail...

I like this novel soooo much!! I'd even refreshed the page every day, every 2 hour (since I can't really use my phone when I'm at work). And when the new chapter is up, I can't keep myself from smiling, even when I don't really know what the story in that chapter would be like... I'm just happy... The plot's kinda unpredictable (thought yeah we knew from the synopsis that it's happy ending, and they will come to like each other in the end) but the process itself is beautiful...... more>> It has that rollercoaster element that makes you cry when it's sad, and smile when it's happy, when I myself don't cry easily... It's almost halfway of the whole story, so I hope the ending will be amazing though once again we knew it's happy... <<less

I usually don't put reviews even if I don't like the story, and I also NEVER put review when I haven't finished the story yet.

I hate to review but I'm so disappointed. I like the theme of terminal illness because I like angst but this one became an exception because I really didn't like the beginning of this story that I can't even bear to give it more chance, or just ignore this when I decide to drop it. Maybe because I really think it's too much of a high... more>> rating considering the disturbing elements of the story.

I've notice a lot of red flags thoughout the beginning and even with the ML.
Spoiler

seeing a sick person and the first reaction is it's erotic..?

[collapse]

My last straw was when I fully understood that the summary should be taken literally and that is the MC taking the ML's heart like WTF?

The thought of an attempted mu*der to an innocent person that grew up in abusive environment with people surrounding him treating him very nicely but the truth is they see him who's still very much healthy and still has a lot of years to live, a living heart donor. That's pure horror for me, not a freaking romance💀.

I can't accept even excuses that the MC change his mind right after being with ML, because that doesn't really erase the fact that it was his plan on the beginning and he just fooled a kid that knew nothing in the world. This story is disgusting with mild grooming (major red flag)
Spoiler

even introducing him as a boy toy of sugar baby as a teenager wtf that's disgusting

[collapse]
and attempted mu*der but it overshadowed by the so called "romance".

I'm probably gonna mellow out if I gave it a chance but I'm don't want to, I feel like I should need to voice out my opinion as well. <<less

One of the loveliest couple in BL novel. MC and ML just deserves the whole world. They are exist to support each other and their love is warm, full of heartache, and spicy (but full of consent, which is the best aspect I love from this story). The author has done a wonderful job in describing the bussiness conflict and treatment for terminal illness. Totally recommended.

This is sure one of my fave modern romance BL. The fluffiness and the angst is on the right amount. The plot is good, and I like it most when the author really did a good job describing the medical condition, the business part, and the reality of how hard to deal with illness. The patient and the caregiver did have their own struggle. I can say this because my spouse has minor heart condition and have to deal with anxiety due to that. Its not easy for both of... more>> us.

This story begin when ML as a rich tycoon picked MC and raised him from poor bullied orphan with no background into a great man he become. ML raised him to be a fierce tiger but obedient and lovely puppy towards him. ML have major heart disease and this story is about how love can conquer all the pain from both their trauma. They truly connected by fate. ML is cold person in the outside but really warm in the inside. MC is smart and easy going on the outside, but inside he only had warm attitude only to his lover.

Each chapter is quite long, so even it's not reach 100 chapter, the reality it will take you approximately 1-2 days to finish reading it non stop. Love this so much! And last, lets clap our hands to the sweet snu snu scenes.. Its hot, its hot, its hot! <<less

Poignant and yet so beautiful! The gong is the shou's strong hold while the shou is the gong's beacon of light. Both characters really grow throughout the story.

That said, I would like to thank Mr. Kleenex for the emotional support especially for the last chapters of the novel, "Thanks Mr. Kleenex, till' me meet again". Lol

Just in case you want to know it's happy ending! Yay! Story 9/10.

It's a short but sweet novel. MC and ML isn't a perfect person but so relatable to reader.

MC is older than ML. MC (Lu Shang) is a very sickly person. His sickness will be explained in detail in the later chapters. ML is an orphan and amnesiac (his memory will come back in the later chapters).

They have many fate destined encounter that will be properly explained in the later chapters. MC is the hard working & disciplined type. ML is the calculative & possessive type

Cute story and zero problematic scenario. Unfortunately, it's too bland. The thought is there but it isn't executed well. It had a lot of boring parts and I honestly skimmed through some of those as it was really forgettable. The side charas are just decorations, even the friend doctor isn't explored well. I did like it but I'm sure that I won't be rereading it.
