Love the ML but also hate him. He loves the MC but still an a-hole. MC is fantastic though. Very smart and resourceful. I like how stubborn she is when her mind is set.

This breaks my heart in the best way. I've slowed down on reading chapters as I approach the limit of what the translator has put out, mostly because I want to leave myself a buffer. the heroine does not in fact end up kneeling for her original love interest (the guy that betrayed her/ignored her in her past life, she instead ends up falling for someone new who similarly f*cks up her life. The author still manages to carry off that change in a really satisfying way.

As of now, I feel like even if the story doesn't end with my desired pairing (heroine/a safe, comfortable life ALONE), I'll still remember it fondly. This is definitely one I'll remember just based on the desperate efforts made by the heroine to try and change her fate, and the way she kept getting back up and pushing forward despite awful setbacks. <<less

Nice story line. Chen Rong rebirth but she just a woman. Even she know about what will happen because she just a woman in that era so she can't prevent it. She just can change her destiny just using her knowledge about future event and get admiration from others.

This is a fantastic novel in my opinion, I cried. I sobbed. I laughed. The writing is superb. And it's interesting to see a Reincarnated protagonist not too OP. She is just like any other woman in ancient dynasties. With a little nore charm, and intelligence. For those who want to dropped this novel half-way through, pursue! Wait for a couple chapters! This story is amazing!

Just to say Wang Qilang is a horrible person for raping MC. The numerous imperial edicts were hilarious. I hate Ran Min too, despite them seemingly being the perfect match. One is a noble with a Troublesome family, and the other is easily subdue by woman's tears. I can't really choose, it's like the Presidential election all over again.

Love this so much!

the story has so much subtleties, complicated feelings and the characters are just so real! The plot isn’t the slightest bit repetitive, there is always something interesting / exciting happening and it is translated amazingly well.

I felt the ML in this novel is more near to reality and she shows the signs of any regular person with all the necessary traits a women should have. I like her idea where is wants everything or nothing. For example the male lead loves her a lot but not in a position to give the legal wife status. I like everything about this novel but the updates are too slow which make readers lose interest in the novel.

i liked this more than I wanted to. In a gist, the political and social implications of a woman binds her and she herself cannot un-entangle her emotions from the male leads, understandable because she is a human. Lovely pacing, interesting plot and twists. Keeps you on the edge even though not much action, with her decisions and wits. A truly intelligent woman, albeit a very human one.

To be sincere, I favor and wish her and her love from past life end up together... the part where he bullys and makes her cry is just cute u-u

However, there is no way to know how this will end... wonderful written, aside from ppl bias against the MC, everything else feels kinda real.

The best thing about this novel is that the MC feels "alive", like, she isnt emotionless, cant keep her cool, like pretty much all others mcs.

It's a fascinating read. It really struck a great balance between the "I'm getting revenge on everyone and everything you love!" And the "I'll ruin her chance at marriage by leaving a soiled handkerchief near her estate" tropes, though I suppose it leans a bit more heavily towards the political side. Even then, it really distinguishes itself as a novel with an atmosphere you rarely see in these reincarnation/transmigration novels. The MC is a real woman. She cries. A lot. And she's nowhere near the badass poison/assassin/super prodigy characters we love to read about but require a heaping dose of suspension of disbelief. But she still takes action in her own way, using the limited power and resources she has. And I'm a big fan of characters who understand themselves, which this MC does well. Now I don't mean being overly confident or arrogant, but clearly understand their limitations and character flaws, and acting accordingly.

Case in point:

The back and forth romance is getting a bit frustrating though. So I hope we can see something soon.

It isn't the same as Martial odyssey you s*upid. This story isn't as shallow as that s*upid free for taking harem novel.

This novel is very sad and should really be tagged as a tragedy. It does have a happy ending, but the entire book is just the MC crying and going through terrible events.

My main issue with this novel is that the MC is kind of inconsistent. The start describes her burning herself alive while laughing, but she doesn’t really turn into that strong willed character until later in the book. The start of the book is tr*sh where all the characters are so insanely s*upid and look at her... more>> like she’s some kind of genius. Ex: she said “hey you guys shouldn’t eat 7 course meals in front of these starving people” and when the refugees tried to rob them, they were like “OMG you genius!! We should have listened to her.” Lol. Heavy emphasis on how MC is so beautiful and incredible.

Most of this book centers around her just trying to not be r*ped when she is concubine born and has no family around to support her. She does some to avoid this, but it is mainly all the men around her who do the saving while she cries a lot.

The end of the book was a lot better than the beginning in my opinion. As she faces these terrible events, she shifts her perspective back and forth between wanting to die and wanting to live. The main plot of this book is her trying to survive while not compromising her desire to be the only woman in her man’s life.

On a final note, she does not make a clean break from the man who made her burn herself alive whatsoever. You would think she would hate him, but she does not and the book actually has him as one of the good guys 🤦🏻‍♀️

TLDR: sad story about navigating society with incredible beauty, no backing, and a desire for monogamy. <<less

Good, realistic, and the writing sticks to historical values at that time. Love the pace and the writing styles. Also, amazing translations. It shows the rare journey of female lead succeeding in becoming the wife of a man with way higher background than herself. It keeps me reading more every time she refused to become just a concubine because I wanted to see how they'd ended up together.

Honestly, the writing was pretty good. Translator did a great job. The beginning was amazing and it caught my attention so overall the storyline is good.

But if you guys can't handle flawed MLs then please save yourself the angst. I'm dropping it at this point cause I can't bring myself to continue reading it when I can't like the ML.

But if you can handle the pain and angst then go ahead and give it a go. It's quite realistic in the sense that its set in ancient times so surely... more>> men would have certain mindsets. Thus MLs are rightfully flawed.

This a 2.5/5. Story is intriguing, keeps you on your toes and the translation is amazing. However, I have mixed feeling about most of the characters. Overall, it is okay and a decent over-the-weekend read.

FL (Chen Rong) : She’s very straightforward and sticks to her guns, which makes here very different from all the FLs I have ever read. In her past life, she has killed a lot people (harem wars) cause she wants to be the only one her husband sees/loves. As she has reincarnated, she realises that... more>> she is someone who loves deeply and doesn’t want a lifestyle where she’s constantly fighting for love/attention, thus, wants her future husband to have her as main wife.

This is what I LOVE about the story as it actually shows how difficult it was for a woman to achieve monogamy in ancient china cause most novel just gloss over that fact.

ML (Qilong) : He’s heavenly looking, privileged, future-lord of one of the biggest clans in the country. Thus, he’s someone who has a lot of responsibility and can’t marry FL as she comes from a humble background. I do understand why his character constantly offered her the ‘Honored Concubine’ position as what FL is demanding (main wife position) is something unheard of and he is an ancient values man who finds it very difficult to understand what FL really wants.

However, I still HATE his character he’s manipulative and selfish. He, till the very end, puts FL in difficult situations so that she can’t get married to anybody else and has to stay by his side. FL constantly tells him what she wants and wishes to distance himself from him but the guy doesn’t stop. It was quite toxic you kind of want FL to end up alone or even with the 2ML.

2ML (Ran Min) : FLs husband (previous life) he’s a brute, good looking, respected general, and low on EQ. Now, I have mixed feelings for him. In their past life, we can’t ignore that FL did a lot of wrongs and her expectations for him to love her (only her) deeply was a bit forced in my opinion. In this life, she hates him and is out for revenge. 2ML eventually falls in love with her. However, FL has already fallen in love with ML but she still says yes to 2ML as he offered her main wife position (he doesn’t care about background). Unfortunate events happen and he does his fair share of mistakes due to which they don’t get married. He’s flawed, not a saint, but you do feel sympathetic to him in the end.

3ML (Su Yan) : Best character in the novel. He was attracted to FL but when FL asks him whether he would marry her (he’s the first guy she asks) he gives her the clear answer that he can’t promise her anything as he comes with his own baggage/responsibility and he understands what she wants is not something his capable of. Eventually they both have this beautiful friendship and sibling-type relationship in the end. <<less

High quality translation, but while the story started off well I was absolutely done with it by the end. The ML is the worst and I wish the author let the MC actually stay single.

Its so sad to see the ML has no respect for the FL at all.

In another universe Chen Rong is living the rest of her life happily without any men (except SY).

I dont know what is wrong with this fl, she is always going around in circles on the same spot and never learning from her mistakes. And is she a dog because she is always biting people??? I just imagine her as some cave woman who cant control herself

This is much better than I expected when I started reading this. I don't really tend to gravitate towards Slice of Life type of novels, but the pacing of this one is okay for my preference. The translation was also good, and I understand that translator skipped some more mundane chapters, which I don't think affected one's understanding of the story progression overall. The story building was adequate, and of course there the standard Chinese elements in the novel.

Yes, her two MLs (some may count three, but the third potential seemed to really have a diff dynamic with MC from the get go) are really the worst at times, but that's the reason there were a ton of memorable scenes for me. There is a constant, underlying tension all throughout the story within the love triangle, and there were some acts that are almost unforgiveable (I had a few heartaches readingg through this), but at the end love is patient, kind and forgiving to those who dare to strive for it.

It would have been better if the Extra Chapters have also been translated, right now I'm bearing the awful MTL just to catch up on what happened after the ending. <<less
