I really enjoy translating this story. Each chapter is a seriously long and I don't know how I do it. I think I read each chapter more than 3 times and I have to re-read my translations for each chapter more than 10 times. Still, I never get tired of reading the chapters.

The story and character building on the author's part is a work of art. It's what I truly longed for all my life.

This story likes to give you curve balls. Sometimes I am reading the chapters and I... more>> know what's going to happen next, but my heart beats faster anyway because of the thrill of reading it.

Try it ~ you will not regret! <<less

Goodness, this is great. If you enjoyed Ender's Game, the first part of this novel is a lot like it - child soldiers being trained for war against aliens in a special facility. As time goes on, they start being introduced to actual battle.

Don't be fooled by the small amount of chapters - each chapter is long, like the length of a novella long. I don't know how the translator does it. They each have their own mini-arc and are very well-paced.

What really makes this story, though, are the incredibly... more>> well-rounded characters. It helps that Han, the main protagonist, is extremely skilled at seeing both the strengths and weaknesses of his comrades. There are quite a number of characters that you dislike on first sight who later turn out to have more depth to them than expected.

Meanwhile, Han almost pushes the boundaries of disbelief with his maturity level - he acts nothing like a 12-year-old, but since North Korea is now a wasteland, you can kind of accept that he's had to grow up very fast.

The only con: The facility is all-male because females are too emotional. Of course. Honestly, the author had a decent explanation for this choice (women did well during the first stage but didn't respond well to the forced puberty process), but the way they explained it just came off badly. <<less

The main reason that so few people read this novel is most likely the small amount of chapters. For the newcomers amongst you, don't get tricked by this. One chapter pretty much equals 4-5 or more of a "normal" chapter release. The actual amount would be more like 60 pages or so.

Anyhow, on to the actual review.

Holy shit, this stuff is good. We have a MC fighting for his siblings sake. Constantly using his capabilities to the max to compensate for his bad ability rank. And in this novel we actually see his efforts. Unlike most other novels, (Whenever we have a MC with weaker capabilities, the authors usually explain the situation in words and we never actualy see this for ourselves. After a few chapters, their abilities are... more>> usually pretty much leages above everyone else, while they still complaining about their poor abilites, blabla...), this novel does things differently. We can see how much he struggles and his efforts throughout the novel (well, so far at least).

The story is straightforward but intriguing, the characters are fleshed out and have personalities. The MC actually uses his brain and the translation is top-notch.

5/5 stars

At least give it a try, you won't regret it. <<less

Kuuuuuuhhhhhh just found this series today and gobbled it all up in one seating!! There goes my bedtime but this is just too good!

I would strongly recommend you to read it if you like a fleshed out story and battle of wits.

It has excellent plot and likeable MC.. he is not OP and neither are his teammates. Each and every of the characters has strength and weakness, and a realistic characteristic and motive. Just like in RL not everyone are permanently enemies, things changes constantly.

The MC is smart and I... more>> am not saying that just like in many other webnovel where the MC looks pretentiously smart because the rest are incapable... The MC is truly capable to think in analytical manner, he doesn’t let his weakness pulls him down but he analysed it and make it a strength. He also puts in effort and this analytical strength eventually becomes a strength for strategical war.

Similar to attack of titans, in this world human has to battle with fantastical characters who has overwhelming strengths that human lacked. So human turned to science and technology. Even then, they are still weak in comparison to this unknown force.

Call me masochistic but I have a soft spot for a world where the MC is at the disadvantage since it forces them to be creative with their fight and there is always a constant threat of losing someone in this story. And this novel, it doesn’t seems to play around with their threat.

Also shout out to the translator for the amazing job thus far!!!?????? <<less

I found gold!

Although the interactions between the characters are at a level beyond those of an actual kid their age, the characters at least show that they are capable of thinking like humans. (Based on the first 3 chapters)

One thing I wished novels like this did more of is world building in the first few paragraphs.

Would also like more development into the description of abilities. (Things like a clear classification of ability types before the characters start talking about people's abilities)

ACTION LOVERS BEWARE

overall a decent read but instead of a korean web novel it feels like im reading someone's attempt at a western novel like ender's game and it falls somewhat short. It 's like the author is trying to do to write an actual novel and it's sorta not ideal for webnovels to be like that I feel? I don't really know how to explain it but this novel has good characterization, good worldbuilding, good story, etc but it feels like its lacking that tension/anticipation that drives you to... more>> want more chapters, to find out whats going to happen next and to me that is one of the most important qualities a webnovel needs to have. There's a fundamental difference between webnovels and book novels in the way the story needs to be structured and I feel like this one tries to be both and ends up kinda failing at both.

tl;dr: okay, but kinda meh <<less

I made an account just to review this gem lol

It's seriously an amazing novel with long chapters and great translations. Characters are fleshed out and no one is overpowered. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, and most of them are likable.

Just try it out ! If you're into military and war strategies then this would hook you right away. If you're into romance then you should probably go find another as there's not even a speck of that here.

Not a bad military child soldier superpower apocalypse novel. General good feel while reading it. I wasn't that fond of the first volume but I feel like it gets better as it goes, which isn't unusual with this type of novel, the start with all the basic training and adapting to the new environment often lacks the feeling of substance, which gets better as things get "real". Rather, many novels with gradual process are quite boring for the first few dozen chapters (in this case few chapters as the chapters... more>> are VERY long) before the MC gets his basic abilities on track and confrontations start properly.

I feel the protagonist is pretty likable even though he's not all that I wish him to be. The battles with the dragons and minions feels a bit lackluster and the overall story can feel a bit lifeless at times, it doesn't have the life, energy and interesting points that would make me love the story even if it manages to keep me interested enough to read it without any issues. It lacks the intenseness and thrill of a fun and adrenaline-inducing adventure/story which is a rather big flaw for a story that doesn't have things like comedy going for it.

Spoiler

Honestly, I have two big complaints about the story which I guess is actually about the author's worldview. The first would be his views on race and countries. While the author doesn't advocate racism, he makes sure to put it into his story in copious amounts. It's not the type of nation defending pride wagon we usually see, he simply has the view that there would be rampant racism even in a world like this at the brink of destruction. While I agree with some parts of it, it makes me a bit fed up when this "savior team" put such heavy emphasis on race and country. We have to see people react to others by race in a situation where everyone are from different countries and working as one. While the core characters gradually seem to overcome these thoughts, it's still annoying when the author has to point out which nationaly or ethnicity everyone comes from 24/7. Plenty of thoughts about how the body and mind of different ethnicities differ, as if we're race bred cats and dogs. Always showing friction between the "ark" team and every damn place they go to in order to help them with these alien invaders. It feels overdone and tiring when done over and over again. I get that it would be reasonable at the start, but that should phase out very fast.

The most annoying part, though, is the lack of females. I don't care for romance, neither do I want any for the protagonist. What annoys me is that it makes things feel so damn fake. Literally only TWO actual females mentioned in over 4 volumes, the first just got a chapter or two before never being heard from again. Everyone are men. It's the very definition of a sausage fest. What makes things feel more artificial, fake and dull than there being only males? Especially since this is a world with female superpower users as well. Perhaps I wouldn't have minded if there was a proper reason and logic for it all, but I simply can't accept the author's "explanations" at all.

You know why there are no females in this author's own words? His explanations are as follows, there are only a 1:5 rate of females to male psykers (easy to make settings beneficial to his own preferences, doesn't make sense though as there is no fantasy science backing it) and they stopped training female psykers altogether because females are so unstable and emotional compared to men so they don't feel they're worth putting effort into. Especially thanks to the body enhancing which makes the body more unstable, the author claims that their unstable minds makes it more dangerous, because females can't help but be so emotional and chaotic, he also claims they mature way slower mentally compared to boys. Even more so because they have menstruation which he claimed would make them even more unstable and would make body enhancements fail because it interferes with them. Which makes no sense at all considering boys have plenty of hormonal swings and changes as well, it's in essence a very flawed argument that reeks of nothing but bullsh*t. Also, there are ways to stop menstruation or at least stabilize the situation, but he claims that it would make them depressed and sucicidal and give them life long traumas because they can no longer birth kids or something (we're talking about females at the age of 6-10 who hardly knows about that crap at all yet), that they will lose their pride as a woman if they can't menstruate anymore or get their uterus removed (can't overstate how s*upid this is). So they don't train female psykers at all because they feel the cost is so many times higher than for males, thus losing insane amounts of possible future war potential in the future. Makes me laugh.

Even if that was the case, it also wouldn't make sense that there are no normal female soldiers either. If super power users are a no go (though there should be female first gen pyskers around, not that we've met any but one of the two females mentioned, and she's not even a soldier but a normal person who awakened her powers by mistake and is just there to provide prophecies), there should at least be a fair amount of female soldiers and higher ups. But nah, I guess females are too unstable and incapable of anything like this. Tch. Essentially, this author is something of a sexist. He simply feels like women belong at home taking care of children and shouldn't be on the battlefield as they're emotional and unstable wrecks. Which opposes the common sense that women are often way more stable and capable of handling stress and shouldering responsibilities than men could ever be... and I'm saying this as a male. His worldview is just way too different from most developed countries. I could accept that they separate males and females to avoid romance, interest and drama interfering with their training, but not abandoning female psykers altogether, especially as some psykers are useful outside of battles as well, like the only central female in the story, the oracle or whatever that has foreseen a lot of things and prevented countless deaths, just that alone should be enough to awaken as many as possible psykers and search for useful powers.

So, that's truly a huge flaw. The lack of proper females and gender diversity makes this feel fake and dull, it lacks a lot of emotion and energy, a world of nothing but males... Really, it impedes the story. Not saying we need it to be 50/50, but how about 10% females and 90% males? Also, the comments about genders this authors has isn't so much offensive as it is moronic.

[collapse]

Do I recommend this novel? Sure, it's a decent read and once the first few parts are over, the issue phase away quite well and it becomes way more interesting. It will never be anything close to a master piece thanks to some bad decisions the author made, but it's no doubt worth reading. Go in expecting that there will be plenty of discrimination in various forms and that this will be a main point of the story, the relationship between humans and countries. As for gender, it's never really mentioned much at all, there are pretty much no females at all, the author just gives us his opinions on females and then hardly ever mentions anything about them ever again as he's intending on making this into a pure sausage fest, ain't no place for buns when the boys are "sword fighting" with their artificially enhanced wieners. <<less

No idea how this is novel is not at the top of the rankings. The chapters are absurdly long, while the style and premise are both superb.

I would recommend this novel 10/10. Reminded me of Ender Games, in a way.

This is seriously some good shit, like for real. Like, all I can really say without turning this review into a straight up short story. It may seem like the translation hasn't progrees much but as you can probably tell from the fact that we're already in volume 2, the chapters are looooooonng. Give it a read, you won't regret it.

This is just perfect! Compared to other series with OP MC, this is just good enough. Although his leadership and his skills to lead the squad is extremely good, with him still have some flaws I think it's still quite logical (altough he matured much faster than his peers).

And until now, the story pace is also good. Not too rushed and not too dragged for long. Probably because there's no romance, it's all just good. Because i've read similar story but with romance and the story just so slow. So... more>> compared to that, I like the pace of this story. <<less

This novel is really a hidden gem and also you could see that it's on par with the Western Fantasy type of novels too

You could easily be immersed upon just starting to read this one, the novel has a good story plot and a good pacing too.

And you could also enjoy the character development here and what's also good 'bout this novel was that each chapter itself was long enough that you could treat it as an arc itsel.

This is just amazing. The plot is something unique that I have never read and I love the fact that the main character is strong by not just plucking plot armor from a tree. This stuff is amazing.

Fantastic series. Chapters are (extraordinarily) voluminous and exceptional without wasting lines of text to fulfill a character quota. Each line of text belongs and the world building exposition is more than tolerable.

Nice story so far. The world is a mix of magic and sci-fi, but the story focuses on psychological things instead. In this context, I has to be noticed that the MC is a bit of a robot, but I guess that's the stories premise.

Note: it may seem like there are only a few chapters, but the chapters are really long.

After reading the first volume my first thought that Infinite Stratos' (and other similar animes/novels) author should take a good long look at this novel before they commit su*cide by tofu.

My second thought was that if Ichika ever made it into the world of KTD, advanced mecha armor be-damned, asspu*sy boi wasn't gonna survive longer than a week.

A really well written story with a 4.6 average stars out of 5. Among 2.8k reviewers in its native language. Each chapter is an arc and long enough to justify that, while giving plenty of time to develop its characters.

It's great, very unique and original concept with equally as unique characters. Does someone know where I can find more chapters. It's easy to find it up to chapter 92 but more is difficult. Probably will need to dig for raws. BTW some other reviewers got me wondering if they even read one chapter of the novel. I read 92 chapters and found no inappropriate comments, women don't even appear in the story. Some people seem to mind it but it's generally common in fantasy and military genre. Except for... more>> that I found few people who seem to be spreading misinformation. <<less

Incomplete review due to incomplete translation.

Not bad... not bad at all. I'm finding myself liking the main cast of characters more as time goes on. MC is likeable despite being a borderline inhuman psychotic killing machine child. He keeps his calm, analyses the situation and helps the team get out of a tough spot. Very cool, mu*derous 10 year old. The worldbuilding is quite expansive even with its unoriginal stereotypical fantasy enemies. The pacing and action scenes balanced out with moral and ethical dilemnas of child abuse read well and... more>> are the quality I'd expect from a young adult series.

Spoiler

That said, theres quite a few obvious flaws the other reviews have written about. The author is obviously racist and sexist, either from ignorance or s*upidity. You can make excuses but it's a world of the author's design. Token minority is literally called Black. Someone doesn't want to kill so they have 'feminine traits'. Women just basically don't exist because hOrMoNeS. Men have hormonal cycles as well? Testerone? Male teenagers don't have mental instability? What a joke. Nice of the author to admit he can't write women so he builds his world to avoid writing them in, so I don't have to read his cringy excuses for a female character. Oh haha gay joke very cool author.

Spoiler

No women allowed in my expensive ship.

Anyways it's a fun read but don't engage with it too hard. Better than the vast majority of what's here. Honestly a 2.5/5 but I'll round up to be nice. <<less
