I think it's good at first, but then degenarate after awhile. Few hundred chapters at the end, full of fighting scenes which outright boring. The heavenly gods were really hard to kill. I felt like the fighting scenes were dragged some more, again and again, leave me frustrated in the end. So I just skim it a lot at later chapters.

It's comedy, but not the kind I like, try it though, it's actually less ridiculous than many xianxia despite being parodic :

Pro

    • Few to no face slapping, at least in the beginning.
    • Many characters behave mostly like people, and not absolute crazy sociopaths all the time.
    • The System quirky nature.
Con

    • MC is attracted to every girl he sees.
    • MC delusion of grandeur is too much for me.

A decent novel, no harems, there's only one female lead and the protagonist is 100% loyal to her, rejects any other females and doesn't act as ret*rded Xianxia harem males do. The cultivation is a bit slow but that's because there aren't that many realms in the novel. The female lead plays a sizeable role in this story so she does get quite a lot of air time and her cultivation always keeps up with the MC. There is some nationalism but it's within a tolerable range.

Overall a good read,... more>> I liked the slow burn subtle romance more than anything else in the novel.

Spoiler

IMO the romance part peaked during the part where FL sacrifices her cultivation for MC and MC sacrifices his vitality for her.

This novel has a decently strong start, but the quality of the story nosedives sharply even before 100 chapters are out.

A suspicious old man saved MC from a bunch of loan sharks or something. The suspicious old man offers MC his 'God of War System' and a recommendation letter of enrollment to an elite school somewhere in a Seireitei-like realm. Once MC obtained the system, he failed to notice how happy the suspicious old man is after being able to give MC the system. MC goes to the school... more>> and starts slapping faces and builds the harem...

My biggest complaint about this novel is after all the set up by the mysterious old man, the supposedly conflict between the MC and the God of War system, that is supposed to be the central theme of this novel, did not appear at all. Sure, the system appears now and then to make things harder for the MC, like when the system forced the MC to bark loudly to gain the ability of language comprehension, but as of where I am now, there are no signs at all that can explain why the suspicious old man is desperate to offload the God of War system onto the MC. In fact, all it does now is to direct the MC to level up relatively quickly by the standard of the novel's world-view; putting some inconveniences to the MC here and there.

The PUBG-like tournament arc that happened shortly after MC enrolled to the school is great, helping to mask the novel's deficiencies. But the second arc where the MC and co. descend back to Earth to do some more face-slapping is not. Suffice to say, in that arc, the comedy + face-slapping combo is a very toxic combination. And of course, the supposedly annoying/dangerous/incompetent system barely appears at all here.

At this point of the novel, I decided to just stop reading this novel. You are better off reading 'Seized by the System' or 'When a Mage Revolts' novels, where their systems are more proactive at making their host MC suffer. I recommend that you should not waste your SS in this novel. ⭐⭐⭐ because the PUBG tournament is actually really good. <<less

Racism tag should be added, because this novel have a lot of racism. Also, plots are pretty typical from what would you expect from a chinese novel. Pretty good for a brainless time wasting, only if you can ignore the racism

Unfortunately, boring.

The premise of an annoying system that bugs the MC is barely showcased and he becomes too op too fast. The old been tr*sh the entire life but now everything he wants falls into his lap.

Although the premise should be modern cultivation, most of the story is spent in the Heavenly Court which is a basic cultivation world.

... more>> The system is inconsistent and the quests and requisites for a level up are either boring or unreachable (Ex: 10 billion push ups or absorb 5 spirit stones)

There's barely any comedy, or if it has, it just didn't make me laugh. It's not original, with Da Bai, the dog, being a clone of Dodou from Cultivation Chat Group, for example.

After 230 chapters it grew so boring with some random queen ant attack that I just couldn't read anymore. <<less

I would really love to give this a 5* rating. But the main heroine and her violent domestic abuse and the MC's passiveness towards her like a typical Japanese gag manga protagonist ruins it for me.
For those of you who are mislead by the earlier comments. There is no harem in this novel. The MC is quite devoted and committed to the heroine.

Spoiler

The main heroine is Xu Xiaolan

[collapse]

The MC is not attracted to every single good looking female. It's just that he was a teen on hormone overload when he was admitted to the university.

I would like to see a protagonist like Meng Hao or Wang Lin and a heroine like Xu Quing or Li Muwan. I really can't stand violent heroines (like the one's from Fengling Tianxia's novels). But I don't like the psychopathic nature of Er Gen's protagonists either. The MC should be somewhat like Song Shuhang from cultivation chat group (- the seeking death disease).

Anyway this novel is quite enjoyable, you get your jokes, misunderstandings, face slapping and some romance in regular and repeating doses. Sadly there is some Japanese style masochistic enjoyment for the MC due to domestic abuse from the main heroine. That's the only reason its 4 stars for me.

Spoiler

Also at the beginning of the story An Lin was enchanted by the class idol Su Qianyun and Xu Xiaolin was a fangirl of Xuanyuan Cheng. Neither of these ever went past this fanboy/fangirl stuff, but I don't like the pairing of An Lin and Xu Xiaolan. The slow translation from friends to lovers was done nicely and all, but it's quite a surprise that someone like Xu Xiaolan who got angry when she heard about the whale child would be willing to forget that Su Qianyun's fan An Lin. There's another annoying thing. She's too tsun-dere (like Jap anime girls). She would never acknowledge that she is his dao partner to be, but would always get violent if some girl shows affection for him even if he never reciprocates any of that. I would've preferred it had he just dumped her or at least ignored her altogether like Yang Kai from Martial Peak did (he's a harem guy, so I don't really like him, but it's better than acting like someone's s*ave)

[collapse]

I think except for the romance this novel is quite good. If there's anything else to complain, it would be the cultivation levels. I prefer the good old qi refining, foundation establishment, core formation-> golden core, nascent soul.... etc stages over the cultivation levels in this novel.
For those of you enjoyed cultivation chat group, this might be actually quite enjoyable.
Well. There is racism, and Chinese nationalism. But in a modern Chinese novel, you get this almost all the time. Just ignore it if you can. <<less

If I was a fifteen-year-old boy I'd probably love this story. The humor is all potty humor (poop, farts, belches and all that). The MC is juvenile and attracted to everything female, though there was no harem as far as I read. At times he acts a lot like a chunni who's discovered he has actual powers, wahahaha. The MC isn't a total idiot but he's not too bright, and of course he has a big appetite, like all good shounen heroes. Also, the friendship-fu is strong in this one... more>> as he builds up his own little gang of overpowered True Companions.

the system thing isn't really explored much, for all the expectations built up with how happy the old man was. It shows up once in a while to make things difficult or irritating but there isn't the annoying personality I was expecting (guess I've read too many quick wears stories where the system is a major side character). on the plus side, it's interesting to see a school/sect situation where the MC isn't constantly called tr*sh and forced to continually fight one silkpants young master after the other. People actually help him, though the teachers don't know what to make of him when he does one ridiculous thing after the next. <<less

This has some novel ideas but it’s rather boring. The story takes cultivation cliches in new directions. The weak newbie isn’t ostracized but helped in school. The competitions aren’t battles to the death. Everything is rather lawful and mature. However every time a big enemy comes the main character pulls a power up out of his ass, which makes the story really boring.

xu xiaolan. The romance are slow and vague at begining but will bloom when FL sacrifice her bloodline to cure MC from after death attack from snow maiden (MC hit after he use his invincible mode), then FL parting from MC bc she only mortal. Later MC rushed to find FL while using ability that cost his life force, MC found her, confess to her, accepted, try to find a cure, found it, and FL got cured (CH 445-457)

[collapse]

- Female friends (finally friendship between M&F)

(MC have many female friends, and some even have slight romantic thought about him, but well.. MC a slight dense)

- No Annoying Villain (no Fcking 'junior, ancestor idiot)

- No lusty young master

- good comedy (many good comedic moments)

- MC not underestimated (he in fact got overestimated)

- normal ending
Spoiler

MC along with FL will become one of supreme being (there are other being that have the same if not stronger power than him)

Cons:

-Racism

(This happen when MC have mission on earth, like always cultivator all-over the world come and be slapped by MC, esp.... the japanese (there's even a shunshunshi/kakashi)

- MC that OP, so lack of tense.

So yeah, a good novel as of now despite the racism.... <<less

Interesting start but the story is a bit shaky like it doesn't know what genre it belongs. The comedy theme quickly becomes silly and redundant so it smartly shifts focus to cultivation. But the MC is not particularly innovative (especially for a MC with a system) so the cultivation path is a little under-fulfilling. The novel tries to pick up the comedy bits but it just makes the MC sometimes sound like a jerk, a dullard or a coward (who gets slapped by women). This phase passes and then there... more>> are boring fillers trying to hard to be funny (Which it would be if I were lacking fewer brain cells) or paint the MC as a philanthropist.

But it does have good point on creativity. The social interaction with friends and family is not absurdly dismal and pushing him to the path of a loner

I am reviewing this as a lay reader and my impression of this novel is good. From the world building, character development, to the romance and comedy, I love it. Sometimes the story becomes quite light and sometimes quite tense. As well as some fun jokes thrown by the MC. For those who like the novel “Cultivation Chat Group”, I recommend this novel.

Maybe someone said that the MC was given too much plot armor, or maybe things suddenly became a bit unreasonable. But in my opinion, isn't that quite reasonable... more>> since this novel is leaning more towards the comedy genre, right?

And maybe for those who are a bit skeptical of this novel because of the racism tag. I can say that this is pretty safe, because they only hate a race for some reason, not just blasphemy.

So, for those who have doubts about the quality of this novel, I have to say give it a try, around 60 chapters or so, maybe you'll like it because I am. <<less

There's no harem yet, just look at the tag. The story is interesting and more like a parody of cultivation novel.

The MC also have to take a big risk to gain cool technique/move, ex: being turned into a girl permanently if failed, worst die.

This is one of the novel that doesn't follow chinese mainstream theme like face slapping or killing arrogant young master, so far only 1 face slapping scene (can't be called face slapping either because the villain already down and didn't even manage to start his arrogant speech).

This... more>> is more like the daily life of a cultivator (junior at the moment, ch 88). So far, all the cultivator are good people.

The bad side, sometimes the plot isn't moving because it's more like a slice of life story. The pace isn't slow tho'

Overall, it's worth reading, but sadly this is qidian, they use money robber apps, not money hungry anymore. Vucking privilege chap <<less

I honestly don't understand why this novel is so underrated. It's actually better than most xianxia plots you see out there. And I think the MC flexing is actually a plus for this novel. And the pacing of the novel is just right. Don't believe in those fake reviews. Those guys just didn't read till the good part. The MC is actually pretty loyal to the FL. Just treating the other girls nicely doesn't mean he's romantically interested in them. And it certainly doesn't deserve such a bad review.

Not really a review, but here goes nothing.

I personally found the premise interesting and decided to give it a try.

At the beginning, I had mixed feelings. The MC suffers a bit and is sort of gullible but I understood that these are necessary for the jokes and plot, so I tolerated. Then, there came a part where the MC was forced to crossdress even though there were better options available. This part completely ruined it for me. It was supposed to be a humorous thing but the only thing I... more>> felt was a beta mc's humiliation.

Spoiler

MC and his friends came across a demon who refused to reveal secrets. Then, someone suggested that she could make the demon reveal his secrets if they (MC and his friends) could provide a "stimulating" image, she could make him reveal his secrets.

What did they do?

They make the MC crossdress because apparently the girls present couldn't bear the thought of a demon ravaging their picture. Then they turn to the boys, where the guys say that since MC is the leader, he should be responsible.

And mind you, THIS WHOLE PART happened in earth and they are normal people who had cellphones and internet. I won't say much.

[collapse]

I read till this part and got the heavy urge to drop but I still felt a bit unsettled to drop it. So I read. And read. And read. And then, dropped.

The main reason I dropped is because the main female lead is unreasonably violent. I find her even more revolting than those aggressive MLs.

I would have whole-heartedly complete the novel if it were not for the fact that the MC is too "kind" and "accommodating" to his allies than they deserve. <<less

Usually I refrain from writing reviews this early on unless they're especially s*upid, but this one is particularly basic so it's going to be an exception.

There's been two postives so far, namely the mystique around why the previous owner of the system wanted to get rid of it so bad and how the school doesn't fall into the usual trope of arrogant young masters and such. It's refreshing to see how not everyone wants him to fail, and even the single fight that's broken out so far has ended well... more>> for both people. Despite that, if a novel has makes me doubt it thrice in the first ten chapters then I doubt the rest of it ends very well.

First of all the system has dead silent so far. Yes it's still early in the novel and it could turn out to be an important character later, but the way it's set up is particularly bad. Aside from the brief word at the very start, the system has become stock standard, just pure text messages. The mystery surrounding it has quickly died down and the MC is cultivating normally now. This could change in the future, but the main hook of the story has disappeared.

Secondly the novel is a trope itself. The MC's one of those guys that see the world around them as something different to reality. If I had to put it into a box he'd be a chunni mixed with ecchi anime protag. That's not to say he doesn't have any redeeming qualities, like when he hit a wall with the system's task he quickly found a way to go past it and worked on the solution. That said, the writing is juvenile. Girls with fragrances and teachers being sexy is prevalent in this. The first thing that describe the females is how they look and while this is needed every encounter is the same. It's overused and unimaginative, almost as much as the arrogant young masters. Where I draw the line is when being a pe*vert and spying on unwitting naked girls is lauded as something herioc. It's just plain gross, and sends out creep vibes.

The third strike is how relevant Earth is. Why the heck would they study Earth in class? It's a wuxia novel with magic swords and stuff, why would they need or want to learn anything about Earth? They haven't used a single piece of Earthly tech, Earth doesn't have any knowledge of their existence and they should have mutiple realms more important than Earth from population and influence alone. Especially so when the only focus is big old C. It reads like the author is trying to force it into there for no reason at all. If he wanted to write about it then giving a normal reason like simply sharing culture or even something under the guise of missing hometown traditions would've been much more interesting than just shoving it in.

All in all the novel is a bit of a disappointment. It feels like it started off as a genuinely good idea but fell off twice as fast. Would put it as a novel version of shounen ecchi anime. Do not recommend. <<less

OMG!!

I didn't realize that this is the same author as "I am not really the second generation of immortal" !!

I love that novel. I know that MC from "I am not really the second generation of immortal" An Bulang is the only son of immortal emperor An Lin

This is the summary of that novel : ... more>>
Spoiler

An Bulang is a top-notch second generation, but he is not happy.

One day, a beautiful girl walked in front of him and took out a wedding letter: "An Bulang, I want to break the engagement!"

An Bulang was furious: "Thirty years in Hedong, thirty years in Hexi, don't bully youngsters... "

"Woo woo... others say I don't deserve you... " The girl burst into tears, "Yes, I'm just a daughter of the patriarch of the ten great sects, and only a humble girl with a holy cold root., Even the capital of the goddess list is not a scum, I can't climb up to you, but can't I regret getting married!"

After all, the girl tore the marriage letter, wept after the storm, and covered her face and flew away.

An Bulang stood at the same place with a sad face.

My second damn fairy! !

[collapse]

Funny? Right? !! This novel is about An Bulang adventure when he run away from home

I even went as far as reading the raw version (so far, 459 chapter) and start to stalk the author other novel in qidian. And how surprise I am that there's another book with An Bulang's father as MC 😂

I am so curious about An Lin, because in the second book, An Lin is
Spoiler

The OP Immortal Emperor who only love his wife. His wife has blood of phoenix and dragon. So, his wife is super OP too. An Bulang is their one and only child. Because his parents is immortal, he was supposed to born as immortal but his father think that it's too easy for him, so he suppressed An Bulang and made him born as mortal. But, because An Bulang has a crazy unbelievably fast cultivation, An Lin think that if he is like that, then his dao heart won't strong enough, so he slap him again and An Bulang has to start over his cultivation 😂😂.

Another funny thing is, An Bulang is so spoiled by his parents. Whatever he want he will get (even if he want another galaxy, he get it). But one day, in one of his birthday, he wish to have (I forgot the exact number, but it is around) 10.000 wifes!! LoL 😂. And then his father slap him to almost death because of it. But his mother also slap his father because he dare to slap her son 😂. His father said how dare you want to have 10.000 harem even though I your father emperor immortals only has 1 wife! roftl

[collapse]

And that's how funny and OP An Lin. If the 2nd book is that good, maybe the 1st book will also good? Well, I'll give 5 stars first, because I think this novel didn't deserve uner 4 stars just because it is from qidian webnovel <<less

I'd say it's one of those stories where you either love it or hate it, with little in-between.

It looks like a comedy at first glance, and there's certainly comedic undertones to it, but it's also really well-written.

The story keeps its internal logic consistent and no matter how goofy things get, no matter how OP the MC gets, there's a rhythm and reason to it.

Spoiler

In fact, once you read enough into it, you can generally tell when things are either gonna get worse or better, and while the author leans heavily on cliffhangers, they make it work as one scene choreographs into another.

[collapse]

For all the banter, there's actually a really interesting overarching plot, with more twists and hairpin turns than a cliffside mountain road.

Spoiler

but you have to stick with it until at least 80% of the way in to get the general picture, and boy, is it a doozy.

[collapse]

All-in-all, you have to give it a chance to play out, and it even has a proper ending, which is more than can be said for so many other cultivation novels.

It also properly explores the full potential of 'cultivation', and has some surprisingly-progressive themes to it.
Spoiler

For all the gay jokes, there's actually a lesbian secondary couple, and some lesbian subplots related to that. While I'm not gay myself, I find the representation quite refreshing.

It's not that 'humans good, non-humans bad' BS either. The humans dominate, sure, but every race has their role to eventually play in the story.

No one race is cannon fodder.

There's plenty of representation from every demographic. They don't shove it down your throat either. It's just there, as another mundane aspect of life.

[collapse]

I'd add on at least half a star for that,

Now, I'll grant that there is some female-on-male domestic abuse, at least until the FL gets her sh*t together.

Spoiler

That was definitely a turn-off at the time, and I thought I'd drop it, but she lightened up, and things improved, so I'm glad I stuck with it.

[collapse]

Take away a star for the annoying domestic abuse BS.

Give half a star for the epic character development, and proper ending.

All-in-all, about 4.5 stars, which I guess rounds up to 5? <<less

This is just an amazing journey full of fun, laughs, tears and warmth. The ending was just so unlike many other xianxia novels I've read. It was amazing, one of the best novels in the Xianxia genre if not the best. The grand wedding at the end, the journey to reach that, and the lively cast of characters accompanying our MC are just so... so amazing. That's all I can say honestly because unlike other novelists, the author here has brought characters introduced form the beginning and has never forgotten... more>> them. Unlike other xianxia novels where the side characters are often lacking or entirely pushed from memory, here they are till the end, though not in the spotlight, they are still there and they still matter.

And the emotion, and the sadness they feel, I feel as well. Because in this novel there are sad moments, serious moments but still throughout I can laugh because the author knows when and how, how to break the tension with a joke. Yes, Tina made me cry tears, yet I could laugh two chapters after with a absurd situation. It was just all-around a grand journey.

I might be a fake cultivator had the highest highs and lowest lows. In the end I don't regret a single hour I spent reading and if you already reading this novel, I implore you to give it a second chance. It's worth it. The end and the journey make it all worth while.

Plus no harem, An lin and Xiu Xiaolan just has one of the best relationships in Xianxia. Xiaolan sacrificed so much and An lin... he by the end did so... so much as well.

Some favorite moments from the last couple hundred chapters. Just... some stuff that caught my mind. Spoiler obviously.

Spoiler

“An Lin... don’t leave me. Promise me, don’t leave me again! Don’t sacrifice yourself again! You’ve already done enough for this world. Let us live together in happiness in the future, okay?” Xu Xiaolan sobbed in a pleading voice. Her embrace was tight, and it was as if she were afraid that An Lin might vanish at any moment.

An Lin’s gaze became extremely gentle, and he also wrapped the woman before him in a tight embrace. As he experienced her warmth, all of his reluctance and feelings transformed into the most heartfelt embrace.

“My life has already been filled with enough splendor... ” An Lin suddenly said.

The woman in his embrace shuddered upon hearing this. She looked up with teary eyes, and she frantically shook her head as she said, “No... don’t. You already promised me, didn’t you? You promised that you would accompany me forever. You promised that you would become Dao partners with me and host a wedding for the ages. Have you forgotten? You can’t break your promise... ”

She was an extremely independent woman, yet at this moment, she was like a lost child. Her body was trembling, and her tears were unstopping. She continued to plead with An Lin.

An Lin opened his mouth as he gazed at her, yet he realized that there was nothing that he could say.

He hadn’t betrayed anyone in his lifetime. In the end, however...

He had still betrayed Xiaolan...

With his life essence erased, he could no longer become a Heavenly Dao that possessed awareness.

His heart shuddered violently.

Darkness suddenly covered the sky and swallowed the entire universe.

The fractures in the sky were mended by this darkness, and the wanton currents of chaos were also engulfed by this darkness. All signs of a catastrophe were suppressed by this darkness.

The tumultuous heaven and earth fell silent.

Everyone looked up, gazing at the dark sky. However, they didn’t feel any fear. Instead, they felt a sense of tranquility and peace.

They had clearly still been facing an apocalypse and panicking in terror just then.

Now, however, all of their negative emotions had been soothed by the darkness before them.

Such gentle darkness...

This thought involuntarily arose in everyone’s mind.

The man in Xu Xiaolan’s embrace suddenly became intangible and transparent.

“No... !”

Xu Xiaolan exclaimed in panic and fright. She tried to embrace An Lin again, yet all that she could grab was empty space.

An Lin could feel everything disappearing from before him. His body didn’t listen to his commands anymore as it slowly rose into the sky.

“Master!”

“Big Brother An! Woof!”

“Master! Don’t leave us!”

“Sect Leader!”

As if realizing something, tears instantly trickled down everyone’s cheeks.

Some even tried to drag him back, yet their effort was all for naught.

Refusing to listen to his commands, An Lin’s body continued to drift toward the sky.4

It was also at this moment that the ring on his finger flashed. A peculiar black orb materialized in heaven and earth before surging toward the sky and exploding. It formed a connection with the Tai Chu Continent as well as countless different worlds.

“This is... the nascent form of the Heavenly Dao? I never imagined that such a matter would exist. An Lin... ultimately can’t escape the fate of becoming the Heavenly Dao... ” Chen Chen exclaimed. There was astonishment in this voice, yet this couldn’t conceal his feeling of desolation.

“Using his body to mend the heavens, using five Supreme Heavenly Gods to recreate the land, and using six Supreme Heavenly Gods to recreate the Heavenly Dao. This is the most perfect way to mend the heavens, right? Apart from having to sacrifice his own life... Sigh... There’s no need for us to participate in mending the heavens... ” Nuwa couldn’t help but sigh as she witnessed this scene.

“Is this An Lin’s fate?” Daolord Lu Ya remarked. He discovered that he couldn’t do anything at all. There was an expression of sorrow on his face.

Anyhow, An Lin recognized that orb of darkness. Both this and the Evil-Slaying Sword had been left to him by the previous Heavenly Darkness God. However, he had never understood the use of this black orb. After investigating it for a long time, he still hadn’t made heads or tails of it.

At this moment, he finally understood what it was for. As it turned out, it was for him to sacrifice himself to mend the heavens. The previous Heavenly Darkness God had truly planned everything to a tee...

However, An Lin wasn’t agitated by this. Instead, he found it to be quite alright. At the very least, he could guarantee the success of mending the heavens. He would die a worthy death.

His body slowly drifted toward the sky.

He was leaving everything behind.

His power, his Dao power, his divine sense, and also his memories.

He truly didn’t want to leave everything behind.

The appearances of those close to him gradually became distant and hazy.

Perhaps they had become hazy.

Or perhaps he had become hazy.

The woman in jade frantically tried to grab onto his hands, yet her hands passed through him time and time again. However, she still stubbornly persisted, just like how she had painfully waited for him for one hundred years. After setting her mind on something, she would pursue it with all her might...

There was also Da Bai, who was trying to leap onto him. However, his lunges were bound to yield no result, and he could no longer carry his master to soar through the sky. There were also beautiful women rushing toward him, yet they passed through his body as if he didn’t exist. Then there was also Xiao Hong, who was as dazzling as the sun. She tried to draw him back with her light, yet why was her radiance becoming weaker and weaker? The adorable ball that only knew how to speak in four-word idioms seemingly discovered how to speak in more than four-word idioms. However, An Lin could no longer hear his words clearly. And that large black dragon... It appeared so black... !

An Lin understood that his adorable companions were unwilling to leave him. He had initially thought that death would be a terrifying thing. However, after seeing his companions trying so hard to grab at him, he suddenly felt a feeling of warmth and gratitude. He felt peaceful and at ease.

To a true cultivator, his life was perhaps too short.

However, An Lin felt that his life was extremely wholesome.

Just like that, he would wave goodbye to the world...

His world descended into darkness...

“M-hm... It’s my pleasure, ” the Heavenly Lord of Dao and Virtue stroked his beard and said. He then shook his head and continued, “I couldn’t stand back and watch them bully a young girl like you.”

“I’m not a young girl, ” Tian Yi said in a mellow voice.

The Heavenly Lord of Dao and Virtue found this God of Creation Stage divine being to be extremely interesting, and he was just about to say that regardless of how old she was, she would still be a young girl in his eyes.

However, Tian Yi suddenly said, “I’m a small fish.”

“Er... ahem... ” The Heavenly Lord of Dao and Virtue almost choked to death upon hearing this.

Not a young girl, but a small fish?

What kind of strange self-awareness is this?

“Small fish eventually have to return to their own pond. Only that small pond is where I belong... ” Tian Yi said in a mellow voice as she gazed up at the sky.

The Heavenly Lord of Dao and Virtue also gazed up at the sky.

Perhaps the Sea God hadn’t known what Tian Yi was gazing up. Or perhaps he had thought that she was daydreaming and belittling them. However, the Heavenly Lord of Dao and Virtue saw what she was gazing at. The sky wasn’t the same sky, but it was instead a sky that lay countless eons away.

“Ow... it’s hurting my eyes... ”

The Heavenly Lord of Dao and Virtue couldn’t help but shut his eyes after gazing at the sky for a while. He then rubbed his eyes in exasperation as he turned around to look at the beautiful mermaid who was still gazing at the sky. “Why are you always gazing at the sky? Don’t your eyes get tired?”

Tian Yi smiled in reply. This was a beautiful smile, and it was as if she were a mermaid who had continued to guard that which was valuable to her for countless and countless years. This was a peculiar and somewhat lonely sense of beauty, and even the experienced Heavenly Lord of Dao and Virtue couldn’t help but feel astonished by her beauty.

Tian Yi swished her slender and jade-like pink tail before saying in a soft voice, “No, they don’t get tired. How can one become tired looking at their own home?”

An Lin looked toward the audience.

This place was lively and bustling with excitement. The cheers of the crowd were more so like the waves of the sea.

The performers who had all reached the pinnacle level of their respective crafts also smiled in encouragement as they looked at An Lin. It was as if they were cheering him on.

Each of the spectators appeared so full of passion as if everything were peaceful and beautiful.

However, An Lin knew that this was perhaps the last land of joy in the Ancient Tai Chu Realm.

These people were clearly in a state of half-living and half-death, yet they still continued to guard their civilization and live their lives.

Glazed lamps of the Red Ink Tavern;

Bright sky of the desolate Tai Chu.

An Lin was dressed in a white Daoist robe as he stood in the center of the stage.

He suddenly recalled a popular song from Earth.

This was a song that was already over one hundred years old...

How many people still remembered this song?

Just like the Ancient Tai Chu Realm that had once been the center of the universe... How many beings still remembered this land?

“The brightest star in the night sky,

“Can you hear,

“That person who’s gazing up.

“The lonely sigh in their mind... ”

The loud cheers instantly subsided as An Lin started to sing. They were a respectful audience, and they knew that they should remain silent now that An Lin had begun his performance.

The Red Empress faltered upon hearing these lyrics.

She had a nagging feeling that these lyrics were an appropriate description of their current situation.

Hadn’t the Ancient Tai Chu Realm once been the brightest star in the night sky?

Now, however, they had become people who gazed up and reminisced about the past...

“The brightest star in the night sky,

“Can you recall,

“The figures that once accompanied me and vanished into the windy rain.”

An Lin’s ethereal and charming voice reverberated around the theatre.

The spectators gradually confirmed that this was a song dedicated to them.

During that apocalyptic period, how many of their family and friends had vanished from beside them? There were far too many, too many to remember and keep count of...

They were lonely beings who gazed up at the universe.

A graceful and elegant accompaniment started to play.

The spectators suddenly discovered that Gu Qiu was sitting on the stage like a

tranquil Celestial Maiden. She was holding a harp as she accompanied the singing of the man.

“I pray for a transparent soul,

“And eyes that can shed tears.

“Give me the courage to believe again,

“Oh, I’ll leap over the lies to embrace you.”

The spectators couldn’t help but develop goosebumps when they heard the climax.

It was as if An Lin’s voice possessed a peculiar ability to penetrate and a peculiar sense of prayers and blessings.

“Whenever I question the reason for existence,

“Whenever I’m lost in the dark night.

“Oh, that brightest star in the night sky,

“Please guide me toward you.”

An Lin’s singing continued to echo around the theatre.

Tears had already stained the faces of the spectators.

They were struggling; they were fighting to survive even if they had to do so in a different form of existence.

However, they couldn’t find a reason for their existence. They were stationed in this final and lonely city of a destroyed world, enduring the pain of boundless loneliness and darkness.

An Lin continued to sing.

However, the spectators in the stands started to vanish one after another.

They vanished from their seats, almost as if they had never existed before.

However, An Lin ignored this as he continued to sing.

Ying Bao—who had been sobbing and silently following behind him—also vanished.

An Lin continued to sing with emotion.

The performers on the stage also started to vanish one after another.

In the end, even the accompanist Gu Qiu vanished, causing her accompaniment to abruptly fall silent.

The stage became empty and spacious.

The stands were already devoid of spectators.

Perhaps... they had never come here to begin with.

However, there was still one person singing on the stage.

What An Lin saw was a Red Ink Tavern that had lost even light. The lanterns were extinguished, and the divine light was scattered. The only light came from the starry universe.

It was as if he were standing under this starry sky, standing in the dark and silent pagoda of ninety-nine floors. The stands were deserted, and only a single person remained singing on the stage.

Was everything truly non-existent?

“The brightest star in the night sky,

“Can you hear,

“That person who’s gazing up.

“The lonely sigh in their mind... ”
