For me this is one of the best slice of life stories, it truely represents that genre by showing the hard life of people living in a snowy land. There is no instant love for the couple but real slow building trust and mutual respect that turns into fluffy family relationship. For me my favorite part is the relation of the son in law with his wifes family especially the father.

Highly recommend it to those who love warm stories where nothing dramatic happens just real everyday life.

IT'S ACTUALLY 4.5/5!!

My hand just slipped and I cl**ked 2 stars only!! OMG :' (can someone help me change the stars?

I have not finished reading yet, but I think people will like this novel. It's a Slice if Life with romance.

... more>> The story is telling us about the life (daily life) of a Snow Land's Lord and his wife. It's a bit fluffy and warm story. We can learn a lot about their culture/daily life. So, please give this novel a try!!!

BTW, I stopped at chapter 131 because I got bored. Not because I dislike this novel, just bored, and planning to read another novel first. I'll continue reading this novel later!! <<less

If you're looking for a sweet slice of life romance then this is for you. Well, altough I said slice of life, the life's a bit different than what you might imagine as the place where they live is a harsh snowy place (?) I guess it's a place like northern russia or finland.... well something like that.... the timeframe used here similiar to post enlightment or pre industrial era? Dunno, kinda confusing since the MC hunt with a double barelled gun, and then there were mentioned about car (?)... more>> Might've misread but I think it was post enlightment or post napoleonic era of earth.

It is sweet, a very sweet story but as the tag said it's josei, so it's sweet josei story....... the MC fall in love at first sight with the female lead, and proposed there and then lol..... the female lead, having her own share of circumstances (and to some degree attracted to the MC that look just like a fairy in one of the books) agreed to mariagge on condition of 1 year trial, in which the MC agreed (due to the MC side of circumstances)

Here's the cicumstances:

Spoiler

the MC live in a very hars eviroment for the era, due to genetic problem, there's a need to marry foreigner or someone not from their village, but their village's condition is so harsh to those who are unaccostumed to it, enspecialy noble ladies will probably refuse to live there. MC agreed to 1 year probabition time so that should the female lead don't like it there, she could leave (divorce him)

The fenale lead having lived as a soldier for 18 years since the age of 13, is concerned about how she may lacked what a male desired out of a women and wife.... seeing as she recieved minimal or no education on being a noble lady in favor of military one and afraid that the MC might be disillusioned with her after living together.... but she also has a need to leave the country for a while, at least until her female cousin who was so infatuated with her decided to get married properly..... hence a year period

[collapse]

As the story goes, we see how they live together, slowly get to know each other, getting closer, until they finaly become a real married husband and wife.....

I'm looking for a light read on the train home after christmas holiday and found this one sweet read and kept reading from the time I board the train till I got off.... and I think the other passanger think I'm a weirdo cuz i've been grinning from ear to ear lol <<less

Fluffy! This is a feel good story and I enjoyed reading it. I rated it a bit low because the content seemed to repeat which made the pacing really slow to almost torturous. Too many cooking, ingredients and stuff it made me a bit curious at some parts but at the same time it ruined some of the moments for me.

There is one particular part I loved most when the male lead actually showed a tough side, although not much was written about it, and I wish there was more... more>> of that. This story was cute but you really need a lot of imagination to get you through it.",) <<less

The fluffiest, best, slow developing romance daily life genre I've read.

The author is clearly quite devoted to cooking, as there's a considerable amount of effort spent in describing cooking process and ingredients as well as how to prepare the ingredients. It (nearly) inspired me to try picking up cooking as a hobby...

This was a pretty heartwarming and fluffy story. What I love about it is that it's one of the rare novels where there's an older female lead as the love interest. It's a nice break from all the lolis and typical same-age/similar-age love interests, as the female lead had more of a certain kind of maturity in various situations (and it's nice not having endless gags like "Gah! Hentai! Pe*vert!" when it comes to intimate moments).

Of course, the side cast equally gets a good amount of time to develop, so... more>> all of those introduced were not one-dimensional (even a certain Tsundere softens over time).

If it were possible, I'd give this a 4.75 stars. The only reason it's not a 5; there's no sequel or expansion! It was so sweet and fluffy, and the tantalizing bits concerning the future makes me want for even a few more short stories or a short sequel focusing on them!

Spoiler

Specifically, the lives of the children as they develop their bonds, including their bonds with their grandparents (who are also secret softies) and each other. Esp. Aina's equally tsundere daughter, and also seeing how mellowed out Aina herself became considering she was begging Ritz's son to not give up on her daughter because she can mellow out with time.

[collapse]

I can only hope the author would consider some vignettes or a full sequel focusing on the future. <<less

Pleasant slice of life, as others have stated. It's light on plot/tension. It's largely just a narration of everyday life with detailed (but not overly detailed) descriptions of the work needed to ensure survival in a relatively harsh climate.

The main characters are decent human beings who are kind and respectful of each other. The story depicts a very positive relationship.

The translation is decent but not great. That said, taking into account the translator is translating from a language that isn't her native language into another language that isn't her native... more>> language, the translation is kind of remarkable. It's certainly above average in terms of its readability. <<less

The story is very light and fluffy. It has many chapters that are in the point of views of the side characters. That helps the reader to have a better understanding of the different people, the environment of them and the circumstances. The are some misunderstanding between the two main leads but as the story goes on they get closer and closer emotionally to each other. I liked how as the novel progresses the characters grow in different ways ... more>> like how Sieglinde becomes more feminine. So I definitely recommend this to anyone that is searching for something light and fluffy to read. <<less

It's so simple and sweet, it's honestly quite the experience. It's refreshing to have a romantic slice-of-life where the author doesn't actively shove in drama for drama's sake.

Thanks to the translator for bringing this novel to light.

A common issue is when they try to make the woman MC more tough they make the male MC weak. Here its not the case at all with both characters fleshed out nicely and the male MC isn't a wuss at all. (He only looks pretty)

Nice relaxing read and you get to know the character's pretty well. Recommended to anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing romance without any really forced events and just a natural flow.

This is the cutest story I have ever read. It is a delight. There isn't any exciting action, it is a slice of life story about a man and his older, military fiance living a day to day life in an alternate Finland. There's details about the hunting, the culture, the food and people. It's a f*cking delight.

When life gets you down, it's wonderful to have a refreshingly cute story like this to read.

This is pure fluff, in a very good way. I love that it's not instant love at first sight-ish, and the way the build their world is just awesome. I could almost see reindeers! The two MCs have such a good chemistry and they are both talented at different things. They continue to grow with each other 9 chapters in and you can't help but think to yourself, "They are totally made for each other!"

The guy is very caring and thoughtful, while the girl is sufficiently independent and eager... more>> to learn. They come from such a different background but they are willing to learn more about each other. Really, this is such a gem, give it a shot! I doubt you'd be disappointed. <<less

Grade:

9/10 (it reminds me a lot of spice and wolf)

TLTR:

highly recommended, but nto for everyone, its a slow but interesting idea of romance, low stakes but interesting characters and some trope subversion, it reminds me of spice and wolf but without the big adventure arcs in each volume, I recommend it if you want some informative knowledge about survival crafts and a nice and fluffy romance

This is meant to be a story about quiet, married life of a sami in-name-only noble boy and middle-aged, mannish maiden that spend majority of her life in army.

By meant, I'm not saying that the life depicted is not quiet, or that the tital heroes are not married. I'm just hesitatant to call this a story.

Aside from the initial 'boy meets girl' one shot, and the plot inertia, literally nothing of import happens.

Which wouldn't be incriminating on its own, but the writing style is dreadfully dry. There are no descriptions... more>> of the landscape, animals or emotions of the characters.

The cooking and prep sequences are doted on more than pretty much eveything else, but even those come down to 'killed the rabbit, skinned, gutted, thrown into ice cellar to mature, then cooked with herbs'.

Spoiler

The crowning moment takes place when it's revealed in passing that protags banging each other all night is the reason why they're so tired. No romance, no buildup, just a bad punchline.

[collapse]

So, what comes next are the timeskips, which are what one does when there's nothing interesting to tell your reader in the current situation. And of course they happen all the time. Month after two weeks later came the new year and another polar night. WHERE, I ask you, can I relax and read about an unhurried life, if it' being skipped all the time.

Anyway, after finishing the first volume it seems that author realized that he has nothing more to say about romance, and that he's incapable of writing dynamic characters.

The side stories started pouring down, and seeing that the novel itself ends after little more that another 50 chapters (with side stories included), I think there shouldn't be anything of value left to read.

This is officially the first ever novel I decided to drop, and not because of a hiatus but due to (lack of) plot and character development.

I honestly don't understand why people are rating this novel so highly. Is this something like Invisible Dragon situation? <<less

This was a good read, a slice of life + romance without any unnecessary misunderstandings or drama. An amazing development in the relationship between the main couple and the pleasant interaction between them, and the side characters as well. I loved it and recommend reading it.

Fluffy love story, neither trope-y nor hasty or anything like that, just two people finding each other and living in an indigenous Finnish village by hunting, farming, handicrafts and the like.

Descriptions of things like dismantling animals are detailed, though if anything is described that you have personal experience with you will quickly notice that the information is researched in a relatively crude manner. You won't notice if you don't, though, and this is just a pet peeve and pretty much the only issue I have with this novel.

At first I thought it was boring but I guess that's just my general impression with SoL themes. It took me quite a few chapters before I got used to the difference in narration and over all feelings.

I like all the characters. It's so fluffy and heartwarming ♥️. The slow but sweet development of their relationship and their interactions with the people around them.

Aside from the main characters I also enjoyed Ritz's grandfather. He's a mild tsundere but soooo soft. I also liked Sieg's father who got attached with Ritz... more>> to the point of feeling depressed hahahahah.

I won't recommend this for people who's looking for active romance stuff. This is more on a softer and slower side. Some details about their daily life in the village might also bore you but I did enjoyed reading and learning them.

This also made me hungry a lot of times. <<less

Aaah finally! A Japanese novel that doesn't use first person narrative!!!

I'm beginning to think that jp novels are molded in one standard: western setting, 1st person narrative. This one is still western setting, but boy it's refreshing.

I skipped the extras though--they were not strong enough to keep my interest, and some chapters were disappointing: esp the chapters where the FL narrates, she would use 1st person narrative, uegh.
