– Question: “What is scarier than the personal experience of transmigrating into a horror movie?”

Anonymous: “Transmigrating into a movie you’ve never seen before.”

– “Poor comment! There’s nothing scary about that!”

Anonymous reply: “You sure? Can you be sure your dad isn’t a mu*derer? Can you be certain your spouse isn’t out to kill you for insurance money? Can you even be certain there isn’t any hidden lethal weapon in your son’s lunchbox? The scariest thing is that you have never seen this movie before so, you have absolutely no idea of any ‘surprise’ that awaits you ahead!”

Hence, this novel is also called [’surprise’ that awaits you].

I've finished the remaining chapters with mtl just because I couldn't wait to see how the mystery will be solved. I'll probably will reread it once it's all translated.

It's good. It's really good. The stories are heart wrenching, the world building is great, the characters are so well written. But this story really does live up to a tragedy tag... I mean some could argue ... more>>
Spoiler

it ends fairly happy, considering the leads are 'together' (even if we are not sure how long such relationship will last)

[collapse]

I'm still confused on some parts of the story bc of mtl, so I won't raise the problems that I had with the novel until it gets fully translated. <<less

This is the crack I want lol

The world build is so goooooood! It's intriguing enough to keep me going for another chapter. Although at first, there are lots of confusion and questions, I guess that kept me going.

I really don't like reading anything tagged as horror as my brain is hyperactive at imagining it compared to just watching horror and I'm thankful for my dumb-sometimes-brave-ass on insisting on reading this.

Spoiler

The smiling masked man scared me so much! Specially when he stalked her and he gets closer and closer on each encounter 😱😱 I dare not move out of fright

[collapse]

Beware tho it's very draining. It is a roller-coaster of emotions, my head is literally aching afyer catching up with the latest trans. <<less

The world building in this is honestly just the best, it’s a transmigration story but also not quite like any other transmigration story I’ve read before. Everything is just connected and there are barely any plot holes. This is honestly the best transmigration story in my opinion.

So I’ve read this story up to the end, and I have to say, I agree with most reviews here. The worldbuilding is phenomenal, it is very different from most transmigrations I’ve read, and NingNing is a very relatable character. She’s not very OP, but she’s good at adapting to the situation. I really like her.

The horror is just right, not too scary, but disturbing enough to keep you reading for more. The characters are also very 3D, I really like that they have their own motivations and that even... more>> the main character herself and the male lead, are both in shades of gray. Sometimes you wonder if they’re plotting something lol. The only bad thing for me is the ending was a bit rushed and it ultimately made me confused.

Spoiler

The ending was summarised in only ten chapters or so, and the origin of the Life Cinema wasn’t really delved into. Like who was the voice who talked with NingNing about how to be a landlord? What was NingNing’s ancestor have to do with the Life Cinema, how did it originate and how did they become the designated landlords? What happened to Ning Qing, NingNing’s grandpa? Did the male lead really love her or was it just like Wen Yu said, he only loved NingNing because he needed something to pursue?

[collapse]

Not really related to the story, but I don’t really ship ML with NingNing, it felt like the way he pursued her from the start was half-hearted at most. And when they got together, it didn’t really have the makings of ‘true love, ’ it was more like a fling. But I guess this is why their characters are 3D, even the love between the characters echoed that of reality.

Spoiler

But come on, Wen Yu and Ningning have a relationship that spanned several lifetimes and several eras, and they interact more than Shi Zong Tang! Why can’t my ship sail? Wuwu~

Normally quick transmigration will only have plot on transmigration world not the original world though. But this novel have a plot on the original world!! WOW that truly make it become the most unique one of its kind. On real life, its theme is horror and in the transmigration world is also a horror. Truly double horror!!

Don't make the first real life chapter delude you, it only lay the foundation for the entire story.

So I'm just left with about 120 chapters, and I gotta say, this is A DAMN GOOD NOVEL! And I'm reading this on MTL.

I really didn't think this novel would hit me so deep in the feels. I thought it'd be a quick transmigration but it really isn't, but still good in it's own way of transitioning between reality and the movie arcs.

I gotta say, the MC been in like 3 movies and I shed a few tears after each one, it gets me so emotionally tangled.

So far so good... more>> since we're discovering the secrets of the cinema, and I'll keep reading,

  • a bummer this novel wasn't like 500 chapters instead. It has such a unique base with this cinema of life thing but at the same time, each movie arc isn't so long that you get lost from the main focus.

This novel is really detailed and the main character grows after acting in the movie. There’s a lot of mysteries behind the movie theater and etc that makes you want to continue reading on. Nearly everything the author writes about will eventually foreshadow the later events.
Spoiler

For example, when her grandma says that her mom was indifferent during the time she went missing and Ning Ning was saved by a young boy and young girl that actually foreshadows a movie she’s going to transmigrate to later on.

[collapse]

All the characters mentioned in the novel will be important later on so I recommend people to pay attention to all the details.

I read this.
Well... the story is not bad, but there are a lot of threads hanging in the air. Alas. Let's just say that the author of My House of Horrors is more meticulous, but here there are more holes, missing characters and their storylines. But! I really liked the older generation. Boss Qu, grandma, directors - both!! The author creates living characters and it’s very cool! Somewhere I laughed, somewhere I cried. It's not a bad story. And, importantly, not for long!!!

This novel is insane, not what I expected at all from a transmigration novel. The description is a bit deceptive as the plot isn't light at all, with the overall tone of the story so far being quite dark... and emphasis should be put on the psychological tag. Important things must be said three times: this is a psychological thriller! mind the psychological tag!

I'll probably update this review when I finished the book, but for now I can say I'm whole-heartedly enjoying it. I will say, it reminds me of... more>> the movie Black Swan (also psychological thriller based in the performance circle) which I also quite enjoyed. I honestly dig the parallels that can be drawn on how far a performer is willing to go to perfect their craft and perfectly embody their role...

edit: okay, finished. Took 2 days because the plot was that intriguing but it doesn't come without its downsides. If you haven't read moonmystery's review, read their review because what they said was right on the money. The biggest flaw of this novel are the loose ends and ending. It finished but... there was so much potential lost and questions still to be answered. And if you want to be really nit picky, the FL seems to dumb down a bit, or maybe she just seemed a bit smarter at the beginning.

That isn't to say this isn't a good novel. It's amazing and the premise is unique in its genre. I'd recommend at least trying it out for the experience because I found that to be more worthwhile than the satisfaction of seeing the end.

To give this novel the benefit of the doubt, I find it's extremely rare for time-oriented (in this case time distortion) novels to be without plot holes. Butterfly effect trumps over too many authors and unless they're noting down every significant detail and crossing them out once the loose end is tied up, there are bound to be some discrepancies here and there. <<less

Terrifyingly good!

My fav was the first arc! However, the brilliance in the writing doesn’t fade as the chapters go on as most novels often do. The arcs don’t feel repetitive and all have sentiment to the story. Unanswered plot holes are 0 as they’re all addressed near/ at the end.

love love love this novel!!!

4.5/5 I loved the various plotlines, rooted hard for Ning Ning... (and felt really weird about the ML who reminded me too much of my father... ugh!) Top notch translation of an amazing novel but the Happy Ending tag is missing for a reason... It's a Merry Bad or Bittersweet Ending. After 170+ chapters of angst, a bit more sweetness would've been appreciated.

Spoiler

The only conflict I have after finishing the novel is how it ended for Wen Yu (his life was good but also really sad and in the end he really ends up alone) and Boss Qu (specifically Doorman Qu), although I understand why Boss Qu doesnt deserve a good ending I feel he already paid for his sins by dying and having to watch how every person humilliated and beat physically and psychologically his daughter plus having to kill her with his own hands so he could end her suffering, also I feel we couldnt really see a proper retribution for Director Chen (hated him with my life horrible character) and if the fate of his son really got changed after the "movie" of his own life.

First of all, this novel is not bad. There are some comments which are bashing at the novel but it's not even that bad. It's primarily a horror- no not even horror, it's a mystery-based novel. There are many chapters where the story has a mu*derer, but we are not told who, and as you read the chapters in anticipation you feel rewarded to know who the actual killer is.

I won't give you many spoilers. I would have rated this series a 5 if it wasn't for the fact, I... more>> was disappointed mildly at the ending along with some instances of the series. The ending wasn't bad it properly summed up everything. It summed up the plot it summed up the main conflict at the end as well as letting the main couple be happy together.

But it didn't answer some questions. Which felt somewhat upsetting.

Spoiler

The parts they did not address in the series did not affect anything but still confused me. Like why Ning's mom never tells her daughter who her father was and why did the couple both keep each child as their own without even letting Ning know that she has a father and a brother, but her brother knew that Ning was his sister?

Who was the one who pushed Ning into the theater when she had no tickets and became considered as a Sneak in?
The main villain in this series was Pi Chen but we never ever properly actually learn what happens to him in every timeline. Ya, we learn he grew old and regrated having left the Theater, but he had tickets. He had so many of them he knew of where it was, and he had special even-digit tickets as well as odd-digit tickets why did he never become a customer of the Life Theater? Couldn't he do something about his old age or steal someone's body or do something? He was shown as such a big baddy but halfway the plot changed, and the main villain became something totally different.

Why did the sudden affair with masked people at the end just get wrapped up in a 1-year time skip? People would have dug around- something should have happened- it felt like the aftermath was glossed over in one line.

I know the plot ended with Ning being a happy owner while her lover is the doorman. But if she is the owner who is in the Theater is she no longer an actor? Will she age? What about her mom and family? Why did her mom not know anything about the whole Life Opera, but she became all-knowing when the Village arc came? What happened to the grandmother, she didn't mend anything we never learn much about her. She still remained a vain and selfish person who missed her old flame and blamed everything on her daughter without knowing a single thing. She could have investigated she could have tried to know about her daughter or what she did but no she blamed her for everything in the end. Also, I'm curious about what happened to the siblings from the Little Angel arc. I wish the author gave us some sort of conclusion for these things.

Also, what was Pi Chen's goal in the end? Why did he even after leaving the place decide to farm for Tickets sell them at a higher price and rinse and repeat? What did he even want out of everything?

Thank you for reading my rambles till the end if you did. Go read the novel.

I cried so much. I need a second book as the author's note had "but that's for another book" or whatever. I expected a bad ending as I was crying and more crying to the end. But it turned out good.

Spoiler

Ning Ning still couldn't save her mom but

[collapse]

I honestly liked that not everything turned out as we wanted. That's one of the many reasons I liked this novel. I'm surely gonna read this again and again but for this week I think I cried enough. I liked that all the characters had depth as well.

Spoiler

Thanks to my daddy issues I cried a lot when Boss Qu said anything but mostly when he died. If I was in that world I would want to be the doorman. As long as I have my phone and other stuff. But again like I said even the greedy filled with vanity grandma has depth.

[collapse]

Like the other comments said the thriller is also great. I always read this around 3 am and thanks to my paranoia I always felt like someone with a mask was watching me from behind smiling.

The romancee. I love them so much. SHZ was great.

Spoiler

I love that at the end he tried to make Ning Ning a masked person as wellbusjdishduwj. I was so intrigued. He became the doorman and Ning Ning the ownerehiejeidje

the only thing I disliked like the other comments said
Spoiler

Wen Yu liking Ning Ning😐 I don't want to think he liked her romantically. He was her aunt once. And there were so many movies when she was so much older than him.

Spoiler

fear not, ending can be considered an HE

[collapse]

A really good novel with a very strong female character and very well-crafted plot. Each transmigration/story link together beautifully to make a haunting yet mysterious story about a theatre full of masked people, the yearnings and darkness of humanity, and a little bit about hope.

This story also plays around with a really strong weakness in classic transmigration novels - which is the MC (and the reader) will often treat the "characters" as NPCs - and after thinking that way for awhile, the reader goes through a similar transformation that the MC goes through in this novel.

Spoiler

Something similar to shock, discomfort, and all these other emotions come into being when a few mysteries are unveiled... an excellent twist and fantastic way to make the novel feel more alive and haunting at the same time.

[collapse]

Most of the cast has very multi-dimensional characterizations. Even the villain has other sides-- and you'll find yourself feeling a whole slew of different emotions-- even for characters you think you hate... the author excels at making you question that bottom line, frequently!

A masterful execution... highly recommend.

Translation was beautifully done as well, smooth read, very good quality. Kudos the translator's hard work. <<less

This is an absolutely rare stunning novel. It has suspense, it has romance, it has some cool male leads (thats almost perfect)

Though I do agree with ome of the revies that it indeed feel like it has an unfinished ending. And I am torn beteweem all those male leads since they are so good. So I feel heartbroken whichever our FL choose. Though maybe it is obvious to some of you which one she would choose.

This is something I strongly recommend to read. Luckily I read it even though... more>> I was scared off by the title and the description🤣🤣 <<less
