Same Feels as involved in the first part (https://www. Novelupdates. Com/series/the-day-i-disappeared/). The amount of hate one feels for Gilbert is phenomenal.

To destroy a person who loves you so completely like that is something else, intentional or not.

3/15/19: This feels like one of those stories you go to when your day was just a little too happy. The kinda happy that feels suspiciously ominous. Read a few chapters of this and just say, eff you world good night. Otherwise, you'd be an idiot like me, reading this because you... more>> want to feel the hurt. <<less

Edited:

In the end both anna marie and gilbert will only be friend. Literally. Gilbert will get close to a girl name supika or whatever according Google translate, and Anna Maria will travel around the world with a young master of merchant family name Luke. <<less

this is no tragedy this is tr*sh.

Spoiler

the ML is tr*sh. The queen and the brother are both tr*sh because they knew what ML is doing but never confronted him. ML is a scum for driving FL into that state. He knew what he was doing, he knew that he was hurting ml, but did he stop? No. And character development WHERE?? He only cared for her because he was guilty. He saw her reaching for him but he ignored her for his ex?? A SCUM.

This made me cry omfg. Such a good, nuanced novel.

Although another reviewer mentioned it, I needed to correct what they said: This story has a vague but happy ending.

Spoiler

Anne Marie mentions that she's ignorant of this world, and mentions that in the time that they spent apart, they both changed -- Gilbert thought he wanted to change for her sake (but he realized he shouldn't be doing that), but Anne Marie wanted to change for herself. She tells Gilbert that she plans on traveling the world, and at the end of their last conversation, he asks her for only one thing:

"I'd like you to come back again to this country someday."

And tell me all about the world you discover.

And they talk to each other through letters (Also, Spica is a witch, and Gilbert is travelling around with her for research while searching for Anne Marie before finding her). They continue sending letters after that conversation, but she stopped responding after some time. Seasons pass, and a year or so later, just when he's about to go inspect the school he created (which is one of the things he wanted to do, and told Anne Marie this. He also stopped travelling and comes back home to manage his territory), he sees a carriage from her family stop in front of his house, and out comes Anne Marie. She then tells him,

"I'm home."

"Welcome home."

NOW IF THAT DOESNT MAKE YOU CRY IDK WHAT DOES.

As for Luke, he was one of her companions when she posed as 'Marguerite.' (Which is what she calls herself after disappearing)

[collapse]

This is such a wonderfully written novel. They managed to get a lot of things across with so little text. So much nuance and meaning. And the translator is doing a great job! Keep up the good work! <<less

Vague ending, but seems to be a happy one.

This ain't your average angsty JP villainess story. It's a bit confusing to read, but the depth is something to note.

Kudos to the art!

Kay... just finished the girl side, and went straight to the guy side and see what he got to defend himself.... turn out? The guy's a social failure, a reject of society in terms of.... well.... socialising with nobles and other stuff......

The guy is totaly someone who focused on books, knowledge that he didn't bother with his surrounding..... and this guy sopposedly a royalty...... at one point the guy left on a social occasion and had left the trouble of smoothing things up to his wife whom... well.... too good... more>> for this total jackass.... (iouno how skilled the girls is.... but of he can smooth things up after someone just up and left on a social occasion, then she is too good to be paired with this donkey of a prince).... on another occasion, when his brother the king, told the dumb guy that one of the powerful vassal wantes to put him on the throne, this idiot didn't understand why his brother told him to watch out for his wife..... I dunno dude, maybe cuz rather than just putting u on the throne and be done with it, wouldn't it be more beneficial to form connection through marriage and then put u on the throne ? And since u would most likely drown urself on ur research even after u become king won't that noble, as father in law of the king be running the place in ur stead.... hell, u won't even notice! And back to the point, ur wife would be a hinderance in executing that kind of pland wouldn't it? Yet, this joke of a prince didn't get it and as matter of fact believe that that noble won't touch him and his wife.....

Omg I feel so sad. After reading the prequel and now, I just can't help but tear up a bit for the fact that Gilbert doesn't understand the harm he's caused Anne Marie. NO woman would want to be misunderstood as someone else's past love T_T. Overall I think this novel is great and hope for more updates! I want to know how everything ends.

It's short, but the length are perfect. Both sequel and paraquel are nice to read, tbh it's perfect if you want something to kill time.

It's short, but feel many emotion, even if it's not that deep. But sure, I got the emotion sad, happy, and relieved.

Gilbert it's an ass. But sure he got chara development there.

... more>> Anne marie was a lovely girl, but the ass Gilbert turn her completely broken. But she will heal later tho :) and I'm really happy about that.

The ending... is an open ending. But I like it. Because after see how Gilbert manage to know his mistake and ready to change it, but Anne marie doesn't want him. So he's willing to wait for Anne Marrie, ready to listen her beautiful journey. Isn't it just like their childhood memories? Where Anne marrie listen to Gilbert balbering, bht now it's different.

For Luke. Well I don't mind him being ML or he will be with anne marie. BUT because he only show up VERY little, I can't have any feelings towards him. While Gilbert pov almost half of the story and it's makes me pity him lmao.

But sure. I don't mind if Luke was the ML, but if the author reason to make this novel an open ending where we could think Gilbert will end up with Anne marie I don't mind too. But well, at least he suffering a bit more xixiixix.

This is good. Try this :) <<less

Truly an amazing story with quiet a rare plot. I will review this novel along side the prequel too.

The start of the prequel is a one-shot of unrequited love of the FL, Anne as she got married to her beloved one, Gilbert only end up being treated as a subtitute. The story ended so abrupt with

This sequel tells a lot more of the story from the beggining until what happen next that wasnt being told in the prequel.

What I really like about this novel is how it tells you on how everybody makes mistakes. EVERYONE. This novel is about a broken relationship and both side were being told that they were wrong and they both should change. Its a refreshing plot as you may not find such topic being written so realistically before.

Some monologue are a bit confusing for me because it is hard to try changing yourself so you need to keep reflecting on yourself and keep asking yourself questions. So, when you read this process a perspective of other people it may sound a bit confusing cuz you may not experience what this character had gone through, at least in my case.

Overall, it gives off very good vibe and good conclusion. Definitely reading this if you like some self reflective type of story. Every character in this story is fantastically written so they managed to create this whole bizarre plot.

When you thought that Gilbert can't get worse than prequel. But dang, it proved me wrong, it made me more mad at him.

Spoiler

Half of the chapters is about him making reasons and want to apologize to assauge his guilt but not bc he is sincere. The worst thing about him, he hurt Anne Marie not bc of his love/obsession to the Queen but bc he wanted to see her cry and he treated her as "lab rat" like a researcher who wanted to test his subject.

Actually, I think he is self-centered, socially awkward and kinda mentally unstable. Plus, the members of royal family are bastards and self-centered, the Queen has a different mentality and straightforward making her kinda likeable but nevertheless they are all arrogant.

[collapse]

I like that this sequel is not focusing on Gilbert's redemption and wooing Anne Marie to be a couple again... It is about both of them learning more about their own selves after the divorced, it gave them the opportunity for self-growth. It was also the chance to know each other and share their growth/experiences thru letters.

I like the ending tho...

Spoiler

It open up the reader's imagination if Anne Marie married Luke and really moved on... Or she came back as single thus giving Gilbert a second chance due to his late love realization.

I read this and the prequel a long time ago. I re-read it now through the eyes of a 26 year-old woman still finding her way in the world and can I just say, this story drops so many life lessons about relationships and self-discovery. I found myself teary-eyed several times because of how some moments resonated with me. I especially connected with Anne Marie and her struggle to find identity and getting rid of the bad habit of bottling up her feelings to the point of self destruction. So... more>> many nuances I missed the first read through I found to have soul h a strong impact now. Definitely a story that transcends the times. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

Lastly,
Spoiler

Gilbert is a weenie and in my head Anne Marie came back either happily married/engaged/committed to Luke who saw how special she was the first time around and who quite literally showed her the world. Change or not Goofy Gilbert does not and will not ever deserve Anne Marie therefore will forever be marked as FriendZone hall of famer.

Seriously, the man is a scum. A total scum. Well, at least that what I thought when I read POV of the wife. Now reading his POV I can see that he is actually someone who clueless about love and cause big misunderstanding. But, I still think he is scum because if he know that don't know what to do, he should put more effort to learn instead of just copying. Like how he keep sending his wife rose, ect... Glad that the female lead manage to regain herself again and I believe she got her HE. Still, how scum I think the man is, I think we do not need to overly hate him as we can see that both husband and wife is very lacking in communication.

[collapse]

In overall, I can say this book is a good example on what lacks of communication can bring you. Afterall, it is in human nature to assume this and that. <<less

This was interesting.

The initial story shows how the woman suffered from the marriage. This one is initially the point of view from the perpetrator, as he was never a husband, and after everything is said and done, the repercussions of, well, all that happened.

At first, I thought that they would paint him as a broken soul and try to justify it, and was utterly wronged, thank you, author. There is an explanation, if you can call it that, to why he is such a sociopath, but it does not paint... more>> him in a good light at any point, much to the contrary. And show the "problems" of the wife as well, regardless of her being solely the victim, there is some point to the "criticism" she "receives" in the story, and as she acknowledges her own faults in the end.

The ending is perfect to what (I guess) was the point of the whole tale. Responsibility for your actions over the other person well being (to put it very lightly lol).

This is not a perfect story, but an interesting tale of repent and desire to do/be better, to right one wrong and see the errs of yourself. I recommend it very much, just be ready to see a despicable human being utter crap for a fair amount of time. <<less

The ML is an unrecyclable tr*sh alright! Thankfully, they didn't recycle him either. And the verbel whoppings he received was pretty nice. Not 100% satisfying but around 90%. The rest of 10%, ig nobody said it out loud cause he's royal? But they hinted at it. It was pretty late, but he got it too. My only regret is that nobody whipped him with a rose vine and burned those dresses. But then again, violence probably won't result in anything in his case, so it was just for my personal... more>> satisfaction. He still disgusts me and I still hope that he dies alone single in a cold, dark, lonely room.

The FL was a bit at fault in this too. She never said anything, not even to herself. She always forced and lied to herself. But I liked her ending. She didn't depend on anybody. Everyone did something for her or for their own, but she made her own decision in the end.

The other side characters are great. They might not be a good person, even a bit tr*shy sometimes, but they're cool. They had personalities. They were selfish. And sometimes, their selfishness resulted in others happiness.

Overall, it was a pretty good read. ML is still a hateful piece of tr*sh though. But I like the ending. <<less

Read this right after the FL pov hoping there would be some atonement, some closure. But no.. The ML gets more and more infuriating. He is a self absorbed pos who put an innocent girl through so much pain and for what? He's "sorry" but only because he doesn't want to bear the burden of guilt. I suppose there is "development" but it is hardly satisfying or redeeming. I have to say, the FL isn't without fault either. Not once did she stand up for herself. I liked the character... more>> of the sister and to some extent, the queen - female characters who actually use their brains.

Personally, I think the tragedy in this story is that the ML wasn't beaten to d3ath with a bouquet of roses and gerberas.

Translation was great though.. Tysm! <<less

I don't know how to explain it properly... But this is literally giving me mix emotions.

Spoiler

In the first book we concluded ML is a scum bag, but then in second book we begin with ML trying to explain his action then followed by -no, ML is just a proud scumbag.

[collapse]

This progression is fine as it is a great twist, the only big problem I have here is that as a tragedy novel, it ought to make us either hate this scumbag and pity the MC or pity both for their unfortunate circumstances that led them to this tragedy but this novel... I feel like tried doing the first one but write it in such a way it's the latter?

Spoiler

I don't know how to exactly say how I pity the ML, but a best description of it is in the comment section of the last chapter that is: ML is a broken character. Like a child he only pursue things that interest him, not caring of other things. However, he had so much potential that even his brother had to do some counter measures to avoid him eying the throne. One of them which was pressuring him to get married.

Ngl I feel like he's rather suffering from the "golden child" abuse but rather than wanting attention, he doesn't want attention but NEEDS attention -or rather someone to point out his wrong behavior. As that commentor said, no one really pointed out what he did wrong, had it not been for MC mental breakdown, no one would have put focus on it beside giving him advices. But how could he change just from simple advices? You need to tell him directly what's wrong not just hint it and them misinterpreting or not understanding the hint until it's too late. It's like a teacher looking at you answering your test paper then suddenly saying to carefully check your papers. Like how would you know exactly which one is wrong or if you're just saying nonsense. (ノ`Д´) ノ彡┻━┻

Also couldn't help but feel like with those side characters pov, you feel like one of them could have stop it from getting worse but noo.

[collapse]

Some of what I said might have hole, as I said this gave me weird vibes to the point it give me confusion to the story. And not like I can take this story logically like:

Spoiler

The fight in the ball... What's the exact purpose for that? For ML is take the throne...? But why would the mastermind not talk to the ML and discuss about it if so! What, could he be such a good Samaritan that he's willing to kill the king and queen quietly without rewards for such hard action?

[collapse]

This made me question so much, and even made me laugh thinking what I will do in this situation.

Now, I know if a great pal of mine who love eating sour food suddenly said they actually like sweet food, I would without even a hesitation support them and give them the sweetest food I can find and continously give it to them until their tooth ache. Let's see if they can like sweet by then. :)

Well enough of ramblings. As a tragedy it falls short for me (I only felt a bit pity how MC was use as a toy for greater scheme and somehow hope ML can find his true self beyond the boandaries of the pressure put on him?). But it was not like it was that bad. The thought counts and maybe I'm just misinterpreting. So 3/5.

People saying this is very tragic and all should probably try reading HHYL. Now that's a proper tragedy despite not trying to be a tragedy. At least this one gives you hope. -.- <<less
