I enjoyed the novel, it is satisfactory. Obviously MC is overpowered due to his mecha, but up to vol 3 MC mostly depends on the mecha to solve the problems but in second part of otome game author has shown us MC has more to him than his cheat mecha.

I like how MC don't use his power and try to live a normal life even though 90% of characters treat him like shit. Most of the typical OP MC after going through deep sh*t want to destroy the country or... more>> world.

Upto v3 MC has gone through lot of sh*t but there is no revenge part but in V4 he takes revenge himself how made him pissed, we are shown the dark side of MC. <<less

Alright, time for me to finally leave a review after almost a full year of following this (followed the WN and manga too a while back)

First off, it has already been mentioned many times by the other viewers that "Holy sh*t the world building is bad, the hell is with this setting?"

I get it man, it's horrible with that reverse harem/boys are lower in status than girls setting. But it's a light novel based off an Otomege, which is mostly just bishounens and uh, no one said that Galges/Otomeges/Eroges... more>> had to make sense.

Next up "Hey what's up with Leon's dumb fickle personality of being a mob/bad guy and not wanting to kill and ending up killing anyway?"

I have no clue man, I'm just reviewing this because I like this LN, but for the above mentioned point I'll drop a star because, let's admit it
Spoiler

practically a whole bunch of events and conflicts could have been avoided if Leon was more proactive or didn't need to pull a 'checkmate' like the war, the crap with Pierre and most recently what happened with Noel. I know it will basically make for a pretty damned boring story but he could've just gotten her, f*cked off and threatened to vaporise whoever tries to invade his territory or Kingdom because of it. Some might agree with it, some might not, it's just my own opinion. Truly.

[collapse]

But hey the SS are pretty damned good, it helped fleshed out the world even more than the main story.

Spoiler

That tragic love story thing with the grudge of the first Saint and her probably lover Lia who Leon has an uncanny resemblance to though. Just that short interaction gave us some hints that the Kingdom's beginnings might have had some dark secrets. Also got a feeling that Possessed!Olivia might see Leon and try to pair Olivia with him. Or pair herself with him. Pretty interesting to see how it will go.

[collapse]

Ah damn I sidetracked too much. But yeah, so far the LN is pretty good and I've read 'Sevens' which was done by this dude too. <<less

Honestly not sure how I randomly got into reading this novel. But anyhow it somehow got me stuck and into spending half a day to read the 5 LN volumes that are translated thus far. So I have to say that it somehow got me quite engaged.

To start of the story is about a typical beta jp male main character who is pretty gruff and smack talks a lot like he's some stereotypical villain but as mentioned hes a beta so even though he pretty much from day 1 has... more>> the power to take over/destroy the world he never ever uses force unless it is really necessary. He will also refrain from killing even during battles/wars and make it much harder on himself since only maniacs kills ppl.

The character overall is fun and likable in my book though again the beta part is as always annoying, for instance his reason for reincarnating which in mentioned in the first part is that his little sister towards which he's a total gofer/s*ave to, forces him to finish the otome game cause it's to hard in a couple of days which leads to him having to play it for a few days straight without sleep + stairs = his death.

This then continues into the story in where he as mentioned is pretty much all powerful cause of his cheat but he doesn't want to use it while also spitting out a bunch of reasons for staying/doing stuff he just said he'd never do.

Before mentioning the supporting characters, which are mostly female it is worth to mention that the world or at least kingdom he starts out in is a female supremacy kingdom. Some spoilers on this part, or well info given along the first and second volume.

Spoiler

Pretty much in the kingdom males has to fight in the wars as soldiers, work and earn money for the family, expected to get married before the age of 20 and etc. Overall men has to do all the work while females are expected to be spoiled and taken care of, this is mostly for nobility. What really horrible however is the fact that it is expected for females to have a harem often in the form of exclusive s*aves or lovers, now reverse harem is fine and all but it goes beyond that in the fact that a common demand is that the man will work while the woman is given a house that will house their around 10+ lovers and the man then has to pay for the house and her lovers/s*aves while she plays around and sleeps with her lovers. Even going so far as to forcing her husband to smile while having to raise children born from the lovers/s*aves.

This in turn has led to many men having a mistress which instead lives with them and gives them children instead. Men unable to marry or enter the academy at around age 15 is often times "sold" or forced to marry older women who, sometimes leading to them promptly being killed as soldiers since when a soldier dies the wife is given a pension. Which has led to certain women marrying young men and then promptly having them killed to make money.

Overall the whole thing is just way over the top seeing as men holds all positions in power regarding, military, commercial, politics etc while the female wives just plays around, spends money, tortures and abuses men in most cases.

It is later revealed that the whole reason this whole women supremacy thing even exists is because the kingdom a few hundred years back in time wanted to weaken the nobility by encouraging and enacting certain privileges for females, but it somehow went overboard cause the women after getting an inch went after a whole yard and then some.

[collapse]

The female characters are overall good but they are also the only females who are not rotten and more normal compared to the normal female in this world.

The two main heroines are Olivia and Angelica, Olivia is the otome games MC and is the kind, innocent and naive type of character, while Angelica is the otome games villain being proud, rash, dependable and levelheaded.

Outside of these three characters there are mainly 6 supporting characters that I can mention without going to much into spoilers.

Marie who is sort of the semi villain of the story, she is another reincarnator who sets out to steal everything that was suppose to be Olivia's from the game, mainly her status and harem. To not go to much into spoilerland she is fully engrossed in the whole female supremacy theme and is quite the annoying and selfish kind of person, who uses her game knowledge and previous life experience of manipulating an enticing men to easily conquer the five ikemen.

The five ikemen basically the harem group Olivia was supposed to get but that is stolen by Marie, they are all pretty much the same in that their all rich, handsome, of high nobility and utterly s*upid. The author at first describes them as having different looks and personalities but eventually they just become a single entity in my opinion.

The plot is well so-so since it's just a lighthearted repeat of the same thing over and over, with the author often having the MC mention it's an otome game so stuff just don't make sense deal with it, to then try and flesh out and give reason and logic to stuff and why it happens but mostly it just makes it weirder or appear s*upid.

What probably drew me in is the simple fact that it is mostly lighthearted, easy to read, you don't really have to follow the plot (you could probably skip chapters without missing much, I honestly skipped the battle parts at some point) and some parts gave me a good laugh. <<less

Dang!

I really like the MC how he's not like other typical Japanese novel's MC.

He's mature sometime but not all the time unlike where typical ones shows 15 yo super mature kid and the plot is also good specially when he rises up and the peoples thought about him don't change immediately like what we usually see. So far so good.

If I were to criticize this LN, it's how convenient the setting is laid out initially. Regardless of that, this LN has excellent flow of story/execution, delve deep into characters relationship (some drama) and likable MC (he's a good guy, but still crooked). Although, the MC obtains a cheat item, albeit through hard work (or more like a desperate move). Because the execution of the story is so good, the story is not bland, it's very engaging. To boot, there's a lot of humor too.

This really doesn't fit with the r-15 tag, sure there are s*xual elements in the background but the MC is so cookiecutter "no killing, no girlfriends" Japanese Ln protagonist it really ruins the whole story which is kind of interesting on its own, there's a lot of potential for wars and adventures and decent characters to be developed but the childish way the author portrays the MC really doesn't fit and kills the whole thing

This novel is okay-ish. The first volume is well written, but the story feels forced hereafter. This is not the intelligent story I was waiting for.

Update: volume 4 is a very enjoyable read. I hope the author keep up the good work and doesn't go back to making a chicken out of the protagonist.

Spoiler

The characters are enjoyable though not really fleshed-out.

The world building is above average (which is not saying much)

The plot as a whole is fine and there are surprises, which makes the novel enjoyable.

The only thing which really prevented me from enjoying the novel is really the MC. He was great at the beginning, he knew where his strength was and played accordingly. But as we understand more about the world and what the boy can do, we also come to understand that the MC is s*upid and cannot use his power intelligently. His pacifist attitude feels forced and in contradiction with some of his late-game decisions.
He wants to stay a mob and not be involved with the plot? Fine. But then act like it. Think it through. He couldn't be more blind if tried. Once he got involved with the plot, he had every tool needed to steer the world in the right direction, but he had no intention of being proactive.
In the end, he is a very frustatingly short-sighted protagonist with pacifist principles but lacking the intelligence to achieve them.

It's a good story and really well translated but it's a story which you'll either like or won't like it, it's about a normal MC, who's reincarnated were gender biased is reversed, that means male's are treated like female and if you're thinking something funny I might have to disappoint you, the scniernero is somewhat like mediaeval likewise the treatment.

Typical Mashima Yomu novel. I enjoy his work and this is no different. You can really tell how much he's improved going from Dragoon to Otome. The main character Leon is fantastic though his main trait of "indifference" has fallen out the window as his character has grown. And it's not limited to the MC either, each main/supporting character's arc had a noticeable impact on their personality in the story. The story is great, I specifically love how Mashima creates an reason to continue on. Only complaint is that volume... more>> 4 exists solely to set up the events in volume 5. It serves to real purpose and is a bit lacking as the climax in volume 5 is all Mashima is going for. <<less

This is freaking funny. The MC got thrown into a horrible world for men. Almost sold to a 50 years old hag. And even though he didn't want involve with the game chara, he always get dragged into it and get a horrible reward in the end.

I also like how the MC solve the problem by completely destroying his opponent until the end. Usually in op isekai novel, the MC just beat his opponent and the end. This is why I like this novel

This is a really satisfying to read and suprisingly really funny. At first I didn't like the MC that much but on the 3rd vol things really heated up and the MC became a badass and the revenge is really satisfying on the 4th vol the MC is really cunning. I just love the payback the MC give the villain for pissing him off.

p/s. I still dont like the five idiots and Marie became really pitiful I felt sorry for her. And the MC will kill people in the story.

Its a pretty good japanese novel, but being a japanese novel, it has its flaws. The world and setting are great, the MC does his stuff, but it really bothers me that he is depicted as black-hearted scum but at the same time doesnt care if people sell him out or try to harm his interests. This just feels very fake to read. Still 4* in comparison to other japanese novels.

A very likable novel,

The protagonist was beating common sense to his enemies, even though OP and wants to live peacefully, plot-twist (arrogant young masters, mistresses, prince, final BOSSES of every series of suppose to be otome game) will not left him live peacefully while racing FLAGS to main characters (the female protagonist and the suppose to be antagonist/villainess).

Even though there's a tag of COMEDY you will also feel the seriousness of the story and slight drama in nearing climax scene to the end of each volume of the novel

Creating... more>> a GAL game hidden route to an OTOME game while the suppose to be scenario was ruined because of them

A unique ISEKAI GAME-THEME. Recommended to read... <<less

The first volume is great (5 stars), the second volume had some things that annoyed me (3 stars), so for now I'll average it out and give it 4.

I really enjoy the isekai genre when it's written/translated well, and this is probably the most fun example I've found in quite some time. Instead of getting reincarnated into a world based off a traditional JRPG (or, let's be honest, an eroge) the protagonist is reincarnated into a world based off of an otome game. I've read a few web novels like... more>> this that have a female protagonist, but none with a male protagonist. The primary entertainment in this novel comes from the clash between the protagonist's nature and the way the world is supposed to work, both in terms of game tropes and in-world social mores.

The setting is a completely overdone take on the idea "what if the power dynamic between men and women were reversed?" and, in particular, looking at otome game tropes and describing what a society would have to look like for those tropes to work. It doesn't end up coming out realistic at all, but the novel acknowledges that, and in fact, one character even comes to the conclusion that this society could not possibly have arisen through natural means. An example: the numerical gender balance is roughly even at school age, but among the elderly there are many more women than men, and it's inferred that the reason is that some women intentionally get their husbands killed in battle over and over in order to receive multiple pensions from the government.

Also, there are airships and mecha.

In the first volume, the protagonist learns about the world, gets into the royal academy and ends up screwing up the plans of someone trying to complete the "plot" of the game. He also makes friends with the girl who was originally supposed to be the protagonist, as well as one of the girls who was a villain in the game. All of this is a lot of fun and while the characters were not particularly deep I pretty much enjoyed them all.

Unfortunately in the second volume, the three main characters end up having those "classic" and annoying communication problems that cause extremely pointless drama, and that diminished how much I could enjoy everything else. The actual main plot also wasn't as interesting as the first volume, although it did set up some interesting stuff for the future that makes me feel hopeful. <<less

Spoiler

The men fight with their lives on the line and easily die, yet our treatment is extremely poor.

“This world is too kind towards women."

There are a lot of things I want to ask, like about the academy and such, but... above all I want to ask about that word, leftover-husband. Isn’t it usually women that have to get married by a set age?

Considering I'm only in the second chapter, the POV of a privileged male is already too much. <<less

The premise is kind of fun and interesting but, just like the author's other works, the characters are the main weak point the story. I guess the author wants to play into the trope of dense harem MC that are also super wimpy but always come out on top due to his luck. If that's so then the author failed spectacularly since chapter 2 of volume 1 cause the MC have the most broken power in the universe behind his back which solve all his problems trivially. Every problems hence... more>> forte is completely due to the MC in not a good way either.

The MC is an indecisive, lazy, dim witted and masochistic man that have the mental maturity of a 5 years old kid. He doesn't want to work, doesn't want to think and have the ultimate goal in life of basically f**k off to the middle of nowhere and enjoy his Japanese (emphasis nationality here cause of author's racism) life style. That's why will constantly annoy other people who doesn't have the omnipotent power that solve all his problems.

To make the matter worse, to ensure the story can continue with such a problematic MC, all other characters are made to shoulder the problem, from getting ens*aved, s*xual assaulted, mind controlled to out right killed, while getting lobotomized by the authors into these obnoxious caricatures of human. <<less

I read the WN version to the end and I like it. Maybe there are many shortcomings in this novel, but this is one of the novels that I enjoyed to the end. If there is a difference from the LN version. Maybe at the beginning to be precise in the 2nd ArC if it's LN maybe volume 4, there are a lot of changes from different traits of Noel, additional characters and others, for the 3rd ArC the story will be extended even more, if the WN is after... more>> brave comes the final battle Kingdom versus Empire, this is not direct but there are other stories and drama. Note: This review is only for the first 5 volumes. Its been quite good as a shounen novel, up to v5. I couldnt read further than a few chapters of v6 because there isnt any actual decent translation for v6 yet, but I hear it kinda went downhill and has become a mess atm.

I hear someone points about how s*upid the isekai world is - or at least the country the MC was born in, and well... hes right. Its matriarchy, but everywhere I see males being in charge... more>> - the king, the nobles. And somehow adventurers still get to have a lot of rights. These points are justified because "its an otome game, so it cant be helped. Dont think too much about it." And I guess I can look past that.

Onto the characters. The MC is said to be pretty cunning, but I think the only time he actually demonstrated it is in the first half of vol 5. He is OP after obtaining a cheat item, and is thus balanced by being lazy, indecisive, and a real PoS (in a good way). There is some level of self-awareness, as he just only uses his powers to troll the life out of people he hates. However he is also too dense, which annoys me. He likes his harem but nowhere near enough to marry any of them, yet also refuses to tell them and just runs away. The waifus (3 so far), I guess they are pretty decent, but the romance is just illogical, dumb even. Though the part I hate the most is the 5 idiots that he is stuck with. Literally only there for comic relief or plot advancement and I certainly wouldnt miss them if they are gone.

So I guess this is a rom com but without much actual rom. There are hints of yuri though (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). <<less
