I've finished reading the raws of this novel.

You know how some novels leave you with a feeling of satisfaction at its conclusion, a feeling that 'wow this was a great novel'? This isn't one of those novels.

Spoiler

The premise of the novel was supposed to be comedy, and some romance, but the author decided to swap to palace intrigue midway through the novel, and he's pretty bad at writing it.
- The love triangle basically gets resolved, but not in a satisfactory way
- The ending of the novel was very rushed, and many plot points were not resolved properly
- The later part of the novel was extremely rushed, and swings almost incoherently from event to event
- Multiple inconceivable plot twists are introduced later into the novel, and its clear that the author suddenly had a change of viewpoint in how he wanted to write the novel
- The 'comedy' part of the novel, which was quite well written, disappears towards the end of the novel
Some examples
> What the hell happened to the first prince after his plot failed?
> The author decided to finish the plot within 1 chapter, and basically pulled things out of his arse to resolve it
> Why the hell did the 3rd prince wait until the 2nd last chapter to avenge his parents and not act before then?
> The other dude in the love triangle and the king basically... disappear after the plot point is resolved; what the heck?
> The MC is completely and utterly incompetent, same goes for her maid. If you've read to be a virtuous wife and expect a similar MC, go elsewhere.

[collapse]
I would have given it 1 star if not for the fact that the front portion of the novel is relatively readable, while the end is a complete mess. I would not have started reading this novel had I known how it had ended. <<less

After binge reading this story in two days, I am surprised at the low rating. Just because a story is not your favorite genre/style doesn't mean it deserves a one star rating. Looking at those who gave low ratings and only read a few chapters makes me sad. And so, for the sake of the translator, Grace, and my own sanity, I will be attempting my first NU review (please treat me well). MC -> Lin Shan.

Purpose of the story:

Spoiler

(Romance Comedy) The story was written to be lighthearted, a fluffy tale that frequently brought a smile to my face. You'll find yourself laughing at some of the ridiculous antics of the MC (Main Character). It's a beautiful romance between one man, and one woman, who stay faithful to each other 'til the end, which is rare to find these days with so many harem novels out there. It begins when Lin Shan transmigrates to another world and is forced to marry a Princess as a man...

[collapse]

Characters:

Spoiler

5/5 The main character is adorable. She stays faithful to her man, even when there are so many hot guys out there. I approve. She loves money about as much as Meng Hao, and will do some pretty s*upid stuff sometimes to get it. For those of you who don't like her actions, please reflect on your younger years and ask yourself, "Was I any wiser?" No. No you weren't. Don't expect every character in every novel you read to be a genius. Chances are, you aren't.

As for other characters, the Male Lead is wonderful and incredibly caring. He's also a virg*n and acts insanely cute/jealous when MC is involved. Some people are concerned about Lin Shan's wife, but I really enjoyed reading about their interactions (remember, story is partly comedy too).

[collapse]

Plot:

Spoiler

4.5/5 I found no plot holes in this story, except for how at the end, Lian Feng who is supposed to be a pro at martial arts didn't notice they were tailed by two people who wanted their treasure. The author likes to drop a lot of bombs near the end, I could clearly tell he/she wanted to add more complexity to the story, but since it doesn't take away from the reading experience, it's OK in my book.

[collapse]

Translation:

5/5 As a native English speaker, the story was very readable. No errors whatsoever in grammar or whatever. Only suggestion is to add links to the footnotes instead of using asterisks.

Overall: 5/5
All in all it was a good story. It's not about a cheat MC with OP skills and plot armor who beats every single person going against him. It's not about a cultivating genius who outsmarts, outmaneuvers everyone using his 300 point IQ. It's a beautiful love story of a regular girl, and her man, and it brought a smile to my face.

@translator, thank you so much for translating this! ;) <<less

LMFAO! This novel has one of the most interesting MCs out there. She's also one of the funniest MCs that I've ever encountered.

Basically, the Female MC transmigrated into the body of the 'son' (or a girl disguised as a boy) of a high ranking official. What's interesting about this story is the MC. She's not your typical 'World-Shaking-Beauty' that you often encounter in Ancient Romance Novels. No, she's quite average looking, leaning a bit on the pretty side. She's also not the typical 'Gentle-Lovable-Female-MC', more like 'Funny-Greedy-Adorable-Female-MC'.

The only thing... more>> I didn't like at the moment is the interaction of the Female Lead and the True Male Lead. Don't get me wrong, they're cute in their own way but her interaction with the Supposedly Second Male Lead (Actually, I don't know for sure if that person will be the Second Male Lead) is much more funnier and explosive. I guess I'm suffering from another Second-Male-Lead Syndrome again.

I guess I boarded the wrong ship again.

Anyways, it's only still the early parts of the novel. That's why I'm hoping for more interactions between the True Male Lead and the Female MC.

Kudos to the translators and editors! I hope this novel will be translated till the end! <<less

Spoiler

I came for laughs and gigs but stopped due to frustration. Reason? Princess Du Ming Yue. She was kidnapped by a thief the main lead knew a while back. I don't really know if he's handsome or what but she kidnapped the princess, a person said to be more beautiful than the MC. So, I skimmed through the chapters until the 81th chapter since that's the only chapters when the princess appeared again. She last appeared at 50 something chapter.

I dropped the story. The main reason is because of shitty Stockholm Syndrome. The thief and the princess got married. The second reason is because of the current life of the princess. From riches to rags. The third reason is because, if I'm not mistaken, the thief is not handsome (?). Beauty and the beast, true version. The fourth reason is the past life of the princess. Love-heart broken cycle then stockholm syndrome. F*ck this! This is not funny!!!!!!

I read the entire novel as well. There's actually different versions. If you scroll to the bottom of this link, you can find a different ending. I think this is the published version or something. http://91baby. Mama. Cn/thread-767985-3-1. HtML

It starts from: "
接42楼贴书版结局:

  【三十六、人是会变的】"

This story is quite good. Lin Shan is shameless and adorable. There are also a lot of intimate scenes. I would recommend it if you like comedy and romance!

This is very funny. The MC is a gender-bent woman who is very shameless. She looks at everything and sees dollar signs. She's also not below ogling over beautiful men. This is good if you want a new type of female MC.

Every chapter of this novel is golden. It's really funny.

Born with a weak body, our female MC was raised as a male in hope to make her health better. No one beside the MC's parents knew that our MC is a female, including the Great Emperor. It's not a problem since the disguise could be taken off after she reach her 18th birthday. There's no problem at all, until the marriage decree from the palace came out to marry her with the Imperial Princess.

So now you got our greedy, lecherous... more>> MC (prince consort), trying her best to kept her identity as a male and avoid beheading. It's a refreshing read. <<less

A satisfying transmigration story about an unique female protagonist from the modern world. Although the story had great potential to be one of those stories that could have went more in-depth by extending its story length and exploring some of the many loose ends of the story, it still felt enjoyable at the end. The biggest flaw I could see was the pacing of the overall story along with its rather abrupt transitions that felt kind of forced.

Although it was kind of apparent from the very first chapter that it... more>> was going to feel more rushed compared to other stories with similar premise (i.e. Not explaining in more detail about the female protagonist's modern self in more detail), it still managed to keep a good steady pace from its first half, but as soon as it started to pick up around chapter ~40-50 for its more 'serious' plot, the story's already rather fast pacing felt like it was more chaotic which becomes more and more evident as it got closer to the end.

Spoiler

There are a lot of missed opportunities that I feel like the story could have gone more into. For instance:

  • The Princess and the Mountain Thief, their life afterwards and possibly even being part of those unlikely allies outside the Palace that the MC/ML could have relied on as they encounter more problems.
  • The King's true intentions/motives and their intelligence going far beyond the surface, which could lead to far more exploration on the King's action to try and put an end to MC/ML's relationship. Potential subplots are limitless.
  • The 'Third Prince' (The face shaper) and more about their background along with their change as they start to help the MC more, but also trying to drive a wedge between MC/ML (potential love interest, antihero archetype, etc).
  • The MC's poisoning that was supposed to be a ticking timebomb with only 1-2 months left at max. Would have been a potential subplot of its own where the MC kept doing selfless stuff (unintentionally or intentionally) and in the end going into a coma (leading to more tragedy. Could have opened up more interactions with a lot of unused characters with mystery behind them)
  • The first prince (Du Ye) taking advantage of his knowledge of MC's power over Du Hao/Lian Feng, returning and using the MC against the two love interests by manipulating MC's weakness (her family?)
  • More on MC's business ventures, since she's clearly money-driven and has modern knowledge.
  • More on the poisoning sect (Red Pill?) and how they can be potential allies with mutual interests in the interest of destroying a common enemy (the King?)

But you get where I'm going with this long list of bullet points. Like many stories, sure it had potential for a lot of interesting subplots-- but this just felt like it had so much loose ends that were left for the reader to kind of assume was resolved.

[collapse]

The female protagonist's personality and persona is definitely a more refreshing take on a transmigrated MC in a saturated genre as I feel that it falls in line with the story's main strengths (its comedy/fast paced story). I was feeling like the story had a lot more that could have been more explored as the story got more serious (read above in spoilers) -- but in the end the story kept true to its comedic nature and still felt satisfying enough to deserve a high score of 4/5. <<less

This is amazing!! Ended, and completely filled with sugar, fluff, light politics, and more! Meet your handsome male protagonist - the drool-worthy, sexy-bodied, cold-on-outside-but-warm-inside Lian Feng!! Your female protagonist may be the common world-traveling, money-grubbing pretty woman (not to be read as petty), but she has a heart of gold and is also very devoted to just the main male. Very, very devoted! She reminds me of Zhu Yao. This is a must read, and definitely worth your time.

1. This is a light novel with a silly MC, so don't come reading this with high expectations. There may be serious moments, but the story is mostly one with a comedic undertone.

2. The plot flows well. The story is basically situated around how the MC does her best to keep her real gender from being known to how the MC plans to escape from the palace and live a normal life, so it's pretty entertaining.

3. The moments between the MC and ML are SO SWEET I GOT DIABETES. LIKE... more>> OH MY GAWD, THE ML IS AN INNOCENT TSUNDERE, CAN IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS?!

So you probably noticed by now, but I rated this 5-star cause I just really like the ML hahahah... XD <<less

The MC reincarnates as a girl who's forced to live as a Prince Consort due to an Imperial decree and needs to hide her gender to stay alive. Fortunately her wife has no interest in her, and she spends most of her time with various male leads. The female lead is cowardly, greedy and not too bright - all the makings of a 2-3 star comedy, where there are heaps of forced scenarios and awkward situations that lack common sense, but is still enjoyable enough (seriously, if you're a prince... more>> consort, why would you lust after a golden sword, or act so brazenly when your life is at stake).

It's the type of story that can very easily be turned into a drama and isn't a bad read if you don't expect too much. <<less

The story was OK, but it ended abruptly and we weren’t told or shown how they to their happy ending

The ending brought this down to a 3 star, but the translator was so charming I added a star

Spoiler

In one chapter the FL was poisoned and the ML was fighting in an underground cave that was collapsing and the next chapter was 3 years later and they were married with a baby

It is an OK story, not the best and not the worst. Just be prepared for the ending

It's cute, not perfect, but I think some of the comments are unfair. This is actually a pretty good story, and I don't think Stockholm Syndrome is a part of it at all... or at least a significant part. MC also is kinda incompetent but she doesn't drag anyone's hind legs at least, and actually she does manage to resolve some of the problems and stand up for herself & others when it counts.

This MC is just an average girl that got transmigrated over okay. She doesn't have any crazy... more>> golden fingers, and might have a problem with her IQ. But it's not actually that bad, she's not naive and starts trouble in a s*upid manner like some of the white lotus mary sue FLs do. She's greedy and loves eyecandy but holds to her bottom line. Most importantly, she's pretty hilarious hahaha her thoughts and actions make this a pretty comedic entertaining read, particularly in the beginning.

The thing about "stockholm syndrome" is totally unfair to this story. If the reviewer actually read the story properly, they would realize it's not exactly the case.

Spoiler

Sure there might be some element because the lover did kidnap the princess, but the princess was so stifled and unhappy in the palace it was relieving to her and a salvation in a sense. She's always strong and won't let others take advantage of her, plus the thief is the wife s*ave worship his lover type anyway, so I imagine he never forced her sexually or romantically. Even when her "loving" father was on his deathbed she didn't want to go back, so that gives you an idea of how much she truly didn't like it. Sure she went from riches to rags, but she's utterly happy & content because of it. Even given the opportunity she turned to run the other way.

[collapse]

Again, this story is def not perfect, particularly the ending & the thing w qin yu. It all gets a bit rushed near the end, but still manageable? I also like how the love triangle gets resolved, except it would've been nice if it hadn't been as rushed. Honestly I probably would've given this 4 stars instead, but +1 because I feel the overall rating should be boosted.

Spoiler

Also, that the Song family so easily let her go is still confusing to me lol we know she doesn't have an attachment to them but they are supposed to be doting on her right....

[collapse]

TO AVOID JUMPING ON THE WRONG SHIP (don't worry it shouldn't really happen but just in case) THE TRUE ML IS:

Spoiler

Lian Feng. Ngl it doesn't really make sense to me that this story title is the way it is since it suggests ML is the Crown Prince, but I'm guessing the author changed their mind halfway through the story as it developed lol.

I don't know what people having problems with this novel are looking for, its a light read no need to be so serious. I know it has a lot, I mean a lot of plot holes but at the end it doesn't effect the whole story and no need to take offense it's comedy, has dark jokes and touches sensitive topics lightly but at the end it's a joke. No need to get worked up...

I read this novel after xiaoyao, that have similar plot about MC in man clothing, and have romance with imperial guard, , I feel this novel is rather dull and less funny than xiaoyao..

First, when MC married the princess, why the song family just let it be and felt give silk cloth for wrap her chest is enough. They don't do anything to make sure nothing will happen with his daugter secret that will lead ruin of their family.

Then, I don't know when MC and ML felt in love, and... more>> I think their interaction is not much, so when MC got kidnapped, ML and MC aware about their feeling of love, I became "what the..." After that, their interaction more because lust than love.

I dropped this novel, and don't think will pick up it again next time..

But, thanks to translators for your hardwork. I give 3 stars because translators. <<less

It was ok - not good but also not too bad.
The story started off very promising. The storyline and the MC were quite funny and I found myself laughing out loud at a few parts. The problem is that even the best jokes get boring if you repeat it too often. So, maybe it's because the first impression counts that I ranked it with 3 stars.

The story was mostly focused on the ML. She transmigrated to the past, however she just accepts it and adapts to the situation with... more>> no problems and no other feelings aside from occasionally missing her parents. Her main characteristic is that she loves money and anything that looks valuable. Most of her actions or thoughts revolve around money. At first it's quite funny but at the end it gets boring and I feel that her characters lacks development.

I can say very little about the other characters because they appear mostly in order to interact with the ML. Otherwise, they were only mentioned in the passing or their story was shortly recounted and then they were forgotten.

The ending was very rushed. It felt like I was just in the middle of a new conflict when all of a sudden the story ended and the outcome including some new revelations were sum up in the epilogue. <<less

Relatively low stakes transmigration story. Focus very much on the MC with the grander machinations explained only at the end. Made some of the plot twists seem unwarranted, but the humor is on point. Happy end, quick and entertaining read.

The story is very simple it is about a young girl who transmigrated into a young lady in ancient times. However the girl she became is secretly posing as a guy due to a curse of some sort. To be honest I would rate this story 3.5.

It had everything I loved comedy, romance, love rivals and royals being messy. I really loved the situations the MC kept getting into. It had me thinking she's going to expose herself at any moment. Which she eventually did. The romance in the novel... more>> is good. I enjoyed the main couples relationship. They had their cute moments here and there.

What I wish from the story was that they developed the side characters a little more. It felt like everybody was just there as props and didn't really have storylines of their own except for the princess. But even then I wish we got more from them. The crown prince in my opinion didn't get much of storyline except for him being in love with the MC. I just wished we got to see more of her brother, crown prince, the princess and even her family.

The story needed more chapters to be very honest. I needed more but got less. The ending felt very rushed and left me satisfied yet unsatisfied. Overall a good read. But very rushed in the ending. Read if you want a cute romance story but be warned the ending may be very rushed. <<less
