Rentt Faina, a twenty-five-year-old adventurer, has been hacking away at monsters for a decade. However, without much talent for the job, Rentt finds himself stuck hunting Slimes and Goblins for meager amounts of coin every day. Little does he know, all this is about to change when he comes across a seemingly undiscovered path in the Labyrinth of the Moon’s Reflection. What awaits him at the end of the path, however, is neither treasure nor riches, but a legendary dragon that wastes no time swallowing him whole! Waking up a short time later, Rentt finds himself not quite dead, but not very alive either— He is nothing more than a pile of bones! Armed with nothing but his trusty sword, tool belt, and ghoulish new looks, Rentt sets off on his quest as a newly reborn Skeleton to achieve Existential Evolution, hoping to one day return to civilization with a more human form. Will Rentt succeed, or will the labyrinth consume him for the rest of his un-death…?

In my opinion it had a good premise and started good. However the human interactions ruined it for me. This series feels like a comedy to be honest, I prefer the game element, tragic, anti-hero MC that gets compations after much struggle rather that brainwashedly friendly females that take 1 chapter to befriend. -_-

This is a solid fantasy adventure story about an adventurer named Rentt who gets turned into an undead but is still committed to his dream of becoming a mythril-class adventurer. It is slow-paced, and the narration can be rambling at times, but there is a lot of worldbuilding and you get invested in the characters over time. I found it difficult to get into initially and even a bit boring in the first volume or two, but by volume 4 or 5 I found myself reading two volumes per day... more>> or so as Rentt gets stronger and the stakes slowly start to get higher. Many characters and setting elements that seem to be irrelevant in the first couple of volumes set up events for the larger storyline. Also, Rentt and Lorraine's friendship is very heartwarming. <<less

Premise is decent, so is the general story and characters, however with the way story is written, it feels as if the writer is being paid by the word count. There is so much useless info, speculations and useless chit-chat that usually would be cut. Id heavily recommend only reading the manga version, unless you have way too much free time.

A good premise, decent writing and interesting enough take on a fantasy world, hampered by inconsistent pacing/focus that would be more akin to a slow/farming life webnovel than a properly serialized work. For example the entirety of volume 9 can be summed up as 'discover/train new powers from end of last volume, get invite to capital, get to capital.' All without any combat or major developments. It even has the gall to pull that 'end main storyline in 3/4 of the volume and pad out last 1/4 with unrelated sidestories'... more>> meta of recent light novels. <<less

Pretty interesting, but also really slow. Most of V5 is just filler slice of life, as the ending of V4 implied they were going to start exploring the source of his divinity.

edit: V6 is super short for some reason, no combat or anything. We learn a bit about his divinity (some offshoot of the God of War and Plants). There's some stuff about his village being the descendants of some ancient king, but none of that really matters to the mystery of his transformation. Both reveals were quite lackluster as... more>> there was no real buildup for either mystery. The divinity thing was slightly interesting, but we don't know about the God of War and Plants so the reveal is meaningless to us. It doesn't change anything in terms of plot or character (aside for Lorraine also getting divinity now). The ending is a literal cliffhanger, where they arrive at the big city. Been doing this with V4 (teased the return to the village, but V5 switched to a whole volume of slice of life). I really like the character and worldbuilding, but it's really done in this annoying way. <<less

Starts out very good. Enjoyable story and characters bur later on in the LN (on JNC) the MC devolved into a an incompetent child like person and the storys progression ground to almost a dead stop. Even the author makes some comments that the story isn't going the way he had planned. I can only hope that the WN did not make that mistake but unless someone picks it up I will never know.

Based on what little is translated here I say give it a shot but know it may... more>> never get picked back up and the LN gets pretty boring the further in you read. <<less

This is a surprisingly good novel. It definitely deserves a proper translation. I first checked out this series by reading the bit of manga that's out and absolutely loved the story so I tried reading the novel. It's not too different from the manga; the MC is a bit more of a chatterbox (in his head) in this version but that's fine. I just wish we had a good translation of it somewhere.
